It's easy to just keep smoking and drinking again... but I won't.

I've been in a battle now for longer than I can remember. I'm sixty next year... I can't believe I've made it this far and been given the all clear.i deserve nothing. I hate drink, but it talks to me, especially when I'm down... it's an absolute monster x
You made me see the light that alcohol is poisoning me. At 59, I was still having 3-4 drinks a night but I was having all these minor health problems - like I was stiff, tired, muscle were getting weak - I though it was just aging. But the alcohol is causing huge damage. I don't know how I was so stupid to not recognize it.
I lost a dear friend not so long ago, he was dead a week before I got the fireman to break in. And he had stopped drinking a couple of days before. Heart must of given up. It's dangerous to stop without help
I’m struggling with even trying to stop. I know it’s a problem, life has been tough and I like to escape from the trauma. I only drink beer now because I don’t like black out. Loss of control. I like what you have to say.

Walked through Northumbria Uni students' union recently and was surprised to see the old sticky-floored boozers replaced with coffee shops. Apparently it's the same up and down the land. So, yeah, I definitely think drinking isn't as big a part of the culture with the younger generation than it once was. Initially this depressed me a little until I realised I was romanticising alcohol again, which is always a slippery slope...

A really honest, and heart felt outpouring. I relate to it entirely. Re the weakness, it sounds as though you were experiencing alcohol induced paralysis, or at least were on the verge of it. It got me completely. I was walking with a stick at the age of 40, but i was too busy drinking to do anything about it. Finally i couldn't walk at all and had to crawl to the telephone to call my self an ambulance. The sh*t we put ourselves through, eh.
Heavy drinking couple at our local restaurant/pub, she was very unstable on her feet & fell backwards through the glass doors. What a mess, blood everywhere, ambulance out...Place had to close & everyone turfed out mid meals etc 😢

@@stevencurry215 It's not just drinkers that lose out is it pal, it's also others around drinkers. In this instance everyone having meals, families, couples, all were told to leave while paramedics worked on the drunken woman. Maybe it was fatal for her, that's why...but it's very unfair for those having a nice meal. All because of a couple drinking too much & being out of control.

Could you do an ' aa ' experience and why you feel it was not for you ? I was desperate to stop n spend some time still doing ' zoom ' meetings but can't really say I am into it , it seemed to stop me when I was totally unable to stop but now I just don't feel like I want to drink anyway ( 3 years 7 months ) I needed to put the brakes on but ' the higher power ' thing and the ' directions ' are like rules n the ' big book ' is used like a bible ! I would b interested for your thoughts , I just struggle with anorexia n anxiety now so ... ? ! X ❤

Hi I’m a 56 male, I’ve drunk alcohol since I was 14 my dad was a big drinker. I have drunk every night all my life except when I was in the prison service and had a weeks of nights which never bowered me. I’ve now escalated to starting at 16.00 with 4 cans of bud followed by 3 or 4 ciders then a bottle of wine mixed with cider to make it last longer. I’m getting worse any advise?

I grew up in the small town USA culture of drinking, sports, doing “guy stuff”. I stood out as someone who could handle a lot, but wanted to fight, drive drunk, be the instigator of trouble. Marriage, kids, work kept me focused for a while but switched to drinking daily, way to much. As I got older,, the set backs added up, the tiredness set in, the health started falling, heart disease creeping in…I had to make a decision in life - live or die

The NHS, esp GPs do far too little to help people stop,many want too but they are told don't because you don't know what will happen if you have been a heavy drinker, i.e seizures..yet they offer no alternative other than taper it and we all know that ain't gonna happen. I done rehab in the end.

@@investorbilll69 hi I used Diazepam maybe 4 or 5 times for 7 days at a time it helps with withdrawals No medication now My anxiety disappeared very soon after I stopped drinking…quite amazing How are you?

Same here in Australia. Went back to my old uni after 30 years and the Uni bar had been replaced by food places and a coffee shop.

London has an enormous range of cultures. You've likely gravitated towards its drinking one because you were in the drinking culture in the northeast.

My anxiety disappeared very soon after I stopped drinking…quite amazing
