Recognisable.... Thankfully I never reached that level of illness, in fact that's my biggest motivation, I am aware that point of irreversible damage may just happen, even hardly noticeable because let's face it, we're in denial most of the time..... I know the Freeman well, spend time there with my son for his lung transplant.... As for friends dropping like flies? Yeah, about 6 between Oct last year and May this year, and Ducie was the last one of that whole batch of old friends, and it hit me hard. 6 weeks ago my brain finally switched around, finally realised nobody is going to help, nobody can take the pain away, and I stopped drinking and I know I won't again! ❤ The struggle is always an individual one though.....

I started drinking on the weekend when I was 17 and by my mid 20s the good buzz was not there so I drank more til it became a daily thing, the cycle escalated now to the old hair of the dog, not knowing til my 40s that my body did not produce dopamine and the tolerance level just grew to chasing that alcohol high was not coming back but in my mind I insisted on getting it back so I kept drinking. coming up on 15 months sober with damage to my health with significant improvement by one day at a time. We must realize there is no cure and I will not graduate from recovery for that moment of instant gratification to relapse, just for today is all we can do and find purpose.

The other thing with drinkers I have noticed is they tell themself everyone is doing it. I’ve seen it with people on TH-cam who should be cutting down and they know it, but the suns out and they take the opinion that everyone else is out having a drink in the pubs or in their garden, so they should too. They don’t see the wider picture that the vast majority of decent working people do not drink heavily on a daily basis. Sure there’s some that will have a bottle of wine a night and go to work next day, but those are not the majority. The majority might have a few drinks at a weekend and that’s it. When you start to drink daily or most days, that’s when your chances of serious health complications shoot up. It’s not normal to drink daily, even if it’s a few cans. I’ve seen stories of blokes who allegedly drank 2-4 cans of lager a night for decades then one day out the blue they become seriously poorly. Rarely will there be any going back at that point. Daily drinking is not normal.
Day drinking has become popular too with pubs opening longer hours
We ignore the education and warning because we get instant gratification from drinking. You get something from it, in the moment, or at least at the start of the night. Your then chasing that same feeling all night, and those who become physically dependant well then they are just chasing feeling human because at that point they are fucked.
Yeah it’s a fine line between Alcohol use and Alcoholism
Alcohol is the most deceptive drug, the most noxious of poisons. It lies, convinces you it's a best friend, then stabs you when you're most vulnerable.
You are spot on “ legalised poison “… Thank you for subscribing and for your support 👍

A big factor is the constant marketing showing drinking alcohol as something that will enhance mood, contribute to positive emotional experiences, friendships etc..
@@designatedbeerdrinker9294 Most definitely this will exacerbate the problem
Those that I knew that died of drink, never thought it was bad enough to die…until it was too bad and too late..
@@markrumsey505 That’s a hard hitting fact … I was unaware of how many people die from alcohol…until recently I hadn’t realised the horrendous death rates
Steven, your truthful and frank talk on booze is helpful. It helps me to say no to the free cocktails after work, the prosecco celebration after another successful meeting, the "Local for one large?!" to talk something through with a troubled colleague, the dropping by the shop for the one extra glass of wine when you get home which ends up being the bottle, then the WFH when the tiniest touch of pressure sends me to the shop for 2 large Morettis...the average 1 bottle of wine a day, the lack of a proper hangover just hints of memory loss causing embarrassment and blackouts, and brain fog, the weight gain, the poor sleep, stopping excersise because I'm chilling with a vino in front of Netflix, yet despite all this, I find solace in wasting money on it daily, after all...a new day, refreshed body...alcohol isn't that harmful is it?! I feel it taking grip. Please keep your posts coming, I MUST find it in me to get out of this trap X
@@mayrose1153 Hi thanks for sharing your story…there is a way out of the trap ..you will have to focus on “ why “ you want to stop …but you recognise that Alcohol could be an issue…that’s the main thing I have an e bookstan.store/stevenalcoholfreelifestyle You may find it useful Please subscribe and keep in touch x
I read an article about Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols a while ago and read with interest his experience of recovering from alcohol addiction. He said nobody sets out to be an alcoholic, it creeps up on you. I can identify with that as I was a moderate drinker before the pandemic. When I started working from home I didn't have the same disciplining forces compelling me not to drink during the week (mostly I can't drink as I might lose my driving licence which would mean losing my livelihood). I don't have these forces now as I still WFH. 3 days not drinking last week. 4 days this week. I wanted to completely abstain but with alcohol so woven into the fabric of society I'm thinking that you are always going to relapse at some point. I'm starting to think that I need to learn to live with the conditions I find myself in and hold off drinking 3 or 4 days a week, which is probably not the best thinking. Really good that you are doing these videos but also keep yourself on track too and walk away and think about your self if people's tales of woe get too much. I will say though that tonight is the first time I've thought I don't like the feeling of being drunk. Progress maybe.
Thank you for that most interesting dialogue…the feeling of drunk was a good feeling as a young man bit it fades very quickly..as we age Keep positive..👍
100 progress 👍
Hi Steven, another great video. Do we think it won't happen to us? I won't be the one that dies!! ignorant to all this when we are young, as you said when a doctor actually sits you down and says " if you dont stop you will die". Alcohol is so powerful to the addict they don't really care " in the moment". Hope you're well
@@ChristopherHughes-u5j Hi Chris how are you?…we think exactly as you say “ it will never happen to us “ and because alcohol is so much woven into our culture we don’t want to stop 👍
@stevencurry215 All ok, thanks, Steven. It's a mad world we live in, we have to drink poison to relax, & have a good time. Addiction has a lot to answer for!
It's so true. Reading your message makes me realise my attitude to alcohol is all wrong. My 18yr old niece house sat for me. I filled the larder including four high strength beers and a bottle of rosè thinking a drop of booze for her would be nice if she fancied it. I was amazed when I returned a week later she hadn't touched the beer. Gen Z have a very different attitude toward booze, I need to take a leaf out of her book; I mean, I'm stocking up on what I think is a moderat amount of booze for a week as if it's the norm....Like Steven says..it's a dangerous drug...and I'm pushing it on my 18yr old niece
@@ChristopherHughes-u5j it’s horrendous
