the sad part about this is that most of these people have died, not including Frank Oz or Steve Whitmire, and the songs they are singing were from Jims imagination or something from the magical past. And when they sing these songs, they remember the good times and happy moments they spent with Jim Henson. May they all rest in peace, because I know heaven needed some muppets:)

"Going Back There Someday"......that's where I just lose it. Probably one of those sorts of songs that is just meaningful and beautiful beyond words. Finishing it up with some of the other muppets,....again.....very fitting. Jim Henson was indeed the dreamer. He took us places that we never expected to see.
That song, Robin's two songs, Just One Person obviously, and Simon Smith and his Dancing Bear, funny enough. Mainly because it showcases the wonderful dynamic between The Muppets.
“Just One Person” makes me cry every single time. One of my favorite songs ever, let alone one of my favorite Muppet songs other than Rainbow Connection and Sing. Jim Henson’s work is truly so special to me and a comfort to me anytime I’m feeling sad, having it out with my ASD, feeling scared, or just want a laugh. I hope he knew just how many ppl he touched and that he would continue to touch ppl even after he was long gone. 🥺💛
R.I.P. Jim Henson (1936-1990), Richard Hunt (1951-1992) and Jerry Nelson (1934-2012). Three great men that made my childhood memorable. I was just a baby when Jim Henson and Richard Hunt died. I was 24 when Jerry Nelson died and I was upset and depressed about his passing for a few days after his passing.
I wasn't even born when Jim passed away, but his legacy has taught me to laugh and his death, although terribly tragic and far too soon, has taught me to not worry so much about being a burden to others in relation to my health. Thank you, Jim ❤️
I was in high school when Jim died. Sesame Street and especially The Muppets were my favourite shows as a kid. I remember coming home from school and my mum telling me that Jim Henson had died. I was devastated. Such a kind and gentle man taken far too soon.

Both Henson and Schulz (creator of the Peanuts) had "Just One Person" (from Snoopy: The Musical) used in their tributes. Why not, since Jim adored Charles' work. Jim was also an Oz fan, which explains Margaret Hamilton appearing on Sesame Street (and Mr. Rogers too), the Muppet Show episodes featuring Liza Minelli (Judy "Dorothy" Garland's daughter) & Elton John (fellow Oz fan, per "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road") and using the songs "Over the Rainbow" (sung by Robin) and "Off to See the Wizard" (a host of Muppets and guest star, Brooke Shields), and both The Muppets Go to the Movies (which had Piggy as Dorothy, Foo Foo as Toto, Scooter as the Scarecrow, Gonzo as the Tin Man, and Fozzie as the Cowardly Lion) & The Muppets' Wizard of Oz (Gonzo and Fozzie replayed their roles, but Pepe became Toto, Kermit was the Scarecrow, Piggy became both witches, and Bunsen & Beaker became The Wizard, with singer-actress Ashanti being Dorothy). How fitting that Kristin Chenoweth - who played Sally Brown on the Broadway version of YaGMCB (You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown) - sang "Just One Person" in 2000 (with Charles Schulz having died just a decade after Jim Henson) and in 2003, she became G[a]linda opposite Idina Menzel (aka Elsa in Frozen) as Elphaba in Wicked, the musical version of Gregory McGuire's 1995 book about The Life & Times of The Wicked Witch of the West.
The surprise and amusement of the audience when these six unassuming gentlemen suddenly break into the chicken cluck version of "Baby Face" is priceless. At the 6:33 mark during Jerry Nelson's "Halfway Up The Stairs" when the camera cuts to the people on the floor and the young woman with the child in her lap breaking a smile amidst the butterflies I just imagine a wave of love passing through the cathedral. Well, one of many of course.
“I’m going to go back there someday” is one of the most beautiful songs. It has an undercurrent of strong spiritual meaning, knowing this world isn’t our home.
11:13 You are my Sunshine song broke me. I was a latchkey kid, I recall the many afternoons I watched Sesame' Street after school. The soft toys I had when i was a child. They kept me company and gave me comfort for many years. They will always be a part of my childhood although distancing away as I grow old. Thank you to Jim Henson and the many wonderful puppeteers who gave abundant sunshine and happiness to our childhoods.
I can't stop watching this video. I've seen it a few dozen times now. I love the music, and I tear up when they are singing.. Frank Oz seems like he was about to cry at the end of "Cottleston Pie". Such a great team.. I doubt we'll be seeing their like again..
Earlier in the service, Frank went up and gave a eulogy about working with Jim back when they were on SNL. Frank broke down in tears and walked off unable to finish.
When the camera shows all those puppeteers entering under Jims' Portrait in the background, this moment is magical. It combines puppets, humans, music, tribute, and above all: Love and thankfulness.
My mother sang “You are my Sunshine” for me when I was growing up. Being an only child it made me feel comfortable and loved. It will be a special song with a connection between me and my mother until my last breath
But they persevered! The early 2000's also seems to have been a tough time for them. They seem to be doing relatively better now, but I do miss gatherings like these...
One of the only times you'll see a standing ovation at a funeral. And when they all come on stage at the end...wow. What a legacy to leave. We miss you, Jim, but we'll always be thankful for what you gave us.
"There's not a word yet for old friends who've just met". One of my favorite ever lines. What a treat to watch the singer sing it. Back around 1990, when I worked for a publishing company, we got an order from Henson Associates Inc. The company name on the check was HA! -- makes me smile to this day.

@@UnicornFairy42 Dude I think you’ve asked me this multiple times on several different videos- I also see you asking everyone else in the comments the same exact question over and over. To answer you, no, I never really watched it.
@@gaiapurpure Of course, I don’t know all the particulars- but this was very soon after Jim’s passing, so I don’t believe that decision had been made quite yet- however, I could always be wrong!! If I’m lucky enough to meet Steve again, I’ll ask him 😊
We were so lucky, the generations of little ones who had Mr Rogers, Sesame Street, and the Muppet Show. Their creators realized we needed not just stimulation but gentleness to grow as happy children. There were certainly highly commercial and sometimes violent shows to choose from but nothing like the uninterrupted river of mind candy today's kids swim in 24/7. I miss Jim Henson. I miss my dear old friends and I'm glad I could see them one last time, and get to feel thanks for the people who gave them life. Please be kind to each other. Do it as a way to say thanks to Jim.
The fact of the person who played Wembley, did the tiny hi made me crack up and almost stop crying. My childhood was watching Fraggle rock as well as using a Jim Henson quote book to stay motivated
Jim died when I was six. It was actually the first celebrity death I had heard of. It made the front page of my local newspaper and my mom read the article to me since I couldn’t really read yet (I was curious about it since the article included a photo of him and Kermit). It left quite an impact on me. It may be the reason I began getting into puppetry recently. This whole service still gets to me.
I was good until they all came out in the final song! My screen went all blurry as my eyes started sweating! That was amazing and very heart touching for an incredible man that Jim Henson is!
I was only five when Mr. Henson died but I used to watch "Sesame Street", "The Muppet Show", "Muppet Babies", and "Dinosaurs" all the time. The past views mouths I've been realizing just how big an impact he had on my life. I've been reading his biography, too. Just reading about his life is really something. I miss him.
Moonbeam I was 14 when he passed, and when I found out I broke down crying, as My Mom walked in and asked why are you crying...I said my childhood is gone...
imagine being so awesome that when you die, all your friends have a concert to sing all of your favourite songs back to back, in the voices of characters you created. And every single one is either hilarious, beautiful or both. What a guy.
The Coddleton Pie moment made me really break. Seeing the little voice cracks, the others trying to cheer "Fozzy" by lifting the VAs chair, then the way they all look at each other and smile and rub each other's shoulders for comfort... That really reminded me I was watching a funeral. Most people trying to be strong and failing have a similar reaction at a funeral; you get moments where you thought you were okay and holding up and then suddenly you hear a crack or say or think something... Next thing you know you are feeling shakey, knowing there is a 50-50 chance that you can either pull yourself together by smiling quietly, or you will start sobbing openly. I am very accute at spotting the little cracks as I have been to about 18 funerals (even though I am only 22) so I am usually the one checking on everyone, giving out smiles and shoulder rubs and hugs to anyone who looks like they need it.

Jim Henson died four years before I was born. Despite that, I grew up with the Muppets and Sesame Street, and I've found myself revisiting my childhood as an adult. I think I'm only just now realizing just how much that man changed the world, and how far ahead of his time he was. One can only imagine what could have been if Jim was still with us today. Thank you, Kermit.
Jerry Nelson’s voice always makes me emotional. He was such an amazing performer and a great man. I cried during his first solo and when he took Gobo out. Breaks my heart that he’s gone now too, but I have faith that he’s with Jim, Carroll, and Richard in heaven now. He and the rest of the muppet performers have a special place in my heart and in heaven.
I'm seeing this and I saw the part where Caroll Spinney as Oscar is there. I realize now that Caroll and Jim are reunited in heaven. Bird Bird, also played by Spinney, looked up at Jim's funeral and said "thank you Kermit." Now Kermit can say "you're welcome, Big Bird."
Amen - I've seen this video so many times over the past few years and the emotions are always the same - laughter through tears. I hope my family and friends have the same emotions someday when I leave this earth.
The Grimmest of Piggles: Agreed, but I have one more my friend; John Cleese in Graham Chapmans memorial service. Here is a short, but great, clip.. th-cam.com/video/Bm2XPkqENaw/w-d-xo.html They just don't make people like that anymore.. 😢 But, thanks to technology they will be with us every time we want. 😊
When Seasame Street is on- When a Muppet movie is on- When you take for granted recalling your abc's- it IS him, a part of his mindpower, a part of his soul. I say this as Mormon-Convert. Amen.😇
This popped up on my screen tonight, the tears are flowing again for our loss, even after 33 yrs. Jim you are still missed. Thank you for the wonderful world you started.
when I was going through a hard time in my twenties I would watch the memorial and listen to these songs to see how much of an impact someone can make on their friends and loved ones. I always cried and welled up with strength feeling the love and weight in their performance. I would love if one day I could make impact on someones life like this. Things are hard again and I find myself looking this up again.
I cannot thank Jim Henson and his family enough for the sincere influence they gave to us in a world full of very confusing messages. He and his clearly showed us that sharing love and joy are the very meanings of life.
I oddly watch this video of a funeral to cheer me up if I’m ever feeling down. Such a wonderful tribute that shows how many people out there can love “just one person.”
How many years have I been watching this 😢 and how many times 😢 and how many years… I don’t like living in the 21st century but I’m so thankful to TH-cam for giving me “part heaven part space… a place to go back to someday”
Only Dave Goelz can deliver the truest rendition of "I'm Going To Go Back There Someday." Paul Williams wrote it, but nobody can sing it quite like The Great Gonzo.
The last song is so emotional, I really cried knowing Jim is not singing it... and it is such a great song Thank you Jim for making the world a lot more happier.
This is what I love about Jim Henson and the Muppet Performers. Even though it might be sad and stressful to have problems in life, but they know how to have fun by doing what they love. Seeing them singing and performing together is so heartwarming. They might be singing silly songs in a funeral, but they aren't offending the integrity of Jim. They are simply honoring him by doing their job and passion. I cry every time I watch this
I love that Fozzie Bear,Miss Piggy,Elmo,Oscar the Grounch,Aurora,Telly,Gonzo The Great,The Fraggles, one of the Penguins,Camilla and the Chickens,Scooter,Sesame Street Cow,Sesame Street Horse and the Little Muppet Monsters sung if just one person believes in you for saying goodbye to Jim Henson
I credit Mr. Rogers & Jim Henson for being the foundation of my early education & morality. The world got a bit colder the day he left us. Brian & Henson Productions have done a great job- but I honestly believe it’s the reason the new generation is lost & insecure. Whenever we felt bad, Sesame Street was there to tell us it’s ok. It taught us how to get along & love each other. Today’s Sesame Street is unrecognizable. Yes, time goes on. But the world needed Jim to keep an entire generation believing in miracles. He is much loved!
I remember watching this a few years ago on you tube and it was just the thing I needed in my life at that time. What I gain from this is that it is acceptable to feel. When I know I need to have some sort of cry and I wont allow myself to do it, I watch this and I am reminded that it is alright to cry and that there is still many beautiful things in the my life and in the world at large. I will have my cry and be alight and re-appreciate the wonderful and happy things in my life . THANK YOU JIM HENSON!!!!! He is my heart and in the hearts of so many people.
You must have a heart of stone not to break down and cry by looking at the video. I'm 43 and I have grown up to Jim Henson and his crazy talented crew and I must say that I'm one of the lucky ones. They've taught me how to laugh...how to cry...how to live..how to dream...how to imagine..how to never give up.. Yes ..they taught me lessons that cannot be taught in school. I'm grateful for that. Rest in peace Jim Richard and Jerry.... Heaven has got the best now.
I was born in 1973. When I was little I watched Sesame Street, then the Muppet Show with the whole family, and later after school I loved watching Fraggle Rock. Jim Henson and everyone else involved in these shows brought me so so any happy hours as a child and now as an adult so many happy memories. Thank u from the bottom of my heart.
Who knew a funeral could be so sad, yet so much fun at the same time. Really goes to show how Mr. Henson really had an impact on this people in a very positive way. Someday I want to do a tribute to Jim of my own because he's already inspiring me for the future.
Wow. I too, got weepy at the end of this wonderful tribute. It's hard to believe that this took place over 25 years ago as I write this. So many of us who use our voice instrument in recording studios and on stage, owe so much to Jim and his friends, as is evidenced here and in the many programs and performances you have given to all of us, for entertainment, instruction, and inspiration. Our acting palette became much larger because of the work of Jim, Frank, and all of the others who built on the foundations laid by the previous generations, like Walt, June Foray, Jay and Bill, Joseph and William, Allen Reed, Daws Butler, and of course, Mel. To list every important artist would take way too long! Thank you so much for sharing this. I feel blessed to have seen it.
My mum had me watch this when I was around 9 years old MANY years after he’d already died and even then, after never living in a world where he was alive, I knew what this meant and how special he was.
@@ambersalcove I wasn’t born until 14 years after this, and his loss is still hitting me. I’ve met Steve Whitmire (who became Kermit after Jim’s death and is the one wearing the all-green suit here). Dave Goelz, Frank Oz, Kevin Clash, Steve Whitmire, Jerry Nelson, and Richard Hunt. These guys made my childhood so entertaining. Sad not a single one of them is still doing any of their characters. All retired or passed away. R.I.P. Jerry, Richard, and Jim. When I was a child we had the book "The Art of The Muppets." It was filled with all the great behind the scenes stuff, as well as many great photos of all of these guys performing on the Muppet Show and Sesame Street. I love Steve and Kevin just enjoying the "dancing bear" song. They loved Jim and their fellow performers.
They both did a comic con together. It was great.
I still get depressed over Jerry's passing... He was a great guy, and not to mention he played some of the best characters in Muppet history.
Taylor R I am not completely over Jim passing away.
Zippy the Brain Truly great people you never get over and that's a good thing. They bring so much joy there is a huge void when theyre gone.

I wasn't even born when Jim passed away, but his legacy has taught me to laugh and his death, although terribly tragic and far too soon, has taught me to not worry so much about being a burden to others in relation to my health. Thank you, Jim ❤️

I still love the muppets though = )
Coddleston Pie is also an A.A Milne song for the Winnie-the-Pooh books. Surprised Disney hasn't used it yet for their Winnie the Pooh franchise.

I love how Kevin and Steve are both like, "Stop...listen."
It's such a beautiful tribute.
“I’m going to go back there someday” is one of the most beautiful songs. It has an undercurrent of strong spiritual meaning, knowing this world isn’t our home.
That last song floored me. My goodness.
It's from Snoopy the musical.
Well I now know of all the actors of the Muppets who's the blonde haired guy next to the actor who does elmo

The guy in the green really stands out! This is a fitting tribute to a unique and talented man! I bet Jim Henson loved it!
That was Steve Whitmire who soon take over doing Kermit.
When the camera shows all those puppeteers entering under Jims' Portrait in the background, this moment is magical. It combines puppets, humans, music, tribute, and above all: Love and thankfulness.
It's even more remarkable when you consider that this service was organized in all of five days. He died on May 16. This service was on May 21.
Imagine looking down to see your friends at your funeral singing... Jim would be so proud 💜
My mother sang “You are my Sunshine” for me when I was growing up. Being an only child it made me feel comfortable and loved. It will be a special song with a connection between me and my mother until my last breath

Poor Richard, you can tell that his health was declining as well. The early 90's were a tough time for the muppets.

Only a talent like Jim Henson could bring people at his own wake this much joy.
I remember being 6yrs old and weeping when I heard he died. The new Ron Howard doc sent me here 🥹
I was only five when Mr. Henson died but I used to watch "Sesame Street", "The Muppet Show", "Muppet Babies", and "Dinosaurs" all the time. The past views mouths I've been realizing just how big an impact he had on my life. I've been reading his biography, too. Just reading about his life is really something. I miss him.

imagine being so awesome that when you die, all your friends have a concert to sing all of your favourite songs back to back, in the voices of characters you created.
18 by 22??? Sorry if this comes out wrong, but why???

I can't "like" this, because it just seems wrong to.
Instead, I send you all the love. My heart broke that day.
@ it was my second funeral/memorial so it wasn’t scary so much as … probably what everyone else was thinking… “what happens now?”
This makes me cry.
Lyle Johnson me too every time
I'm seeing this and I saw the part where Caroll Spinney as Oscar is there. I realize now that Caroll and Jim are reunited in heaven. Bird Bird, also played by Spinney, looked up at Jim's funeral and said "thank you Kermit." Now Kermit can say "you're welcome, Big Bird."
