July 2024 Backyard Garden Tour! My Vision of Vines Has Come To Life!!

- Join me as I take you through my backyard in North Texas, zone 8a/8b in July 2024! This is my most favorite the backyard garden has ever looked!! This is largely in part to my vision of vines on the fences and on the arches has truly come to life this summer! I have 9-10 different species of vines growing currently, and over 40 different species of plants in my backyard! Come see!
I suggest catmint like cats pajama planted in that empty spot where she likes to lay and roll. And it can be her spot.

I really need to get some of the Brunnera, the silver foliage stands out.

I feel for your pain with the poison ivy. It is amazing how fast it grows.
I have been wanting to switch a few of my sprinklers to drip. I would love to know how you did that.
Thank you Stacie! I will have to ask my hubby to help me make a video on how to switch to drip! He is the one that knows all about how to do it, I just helped! I know that basically you get 1/2 inch Drip Tubing, and then there are fittings that you put in where the sprinkler heads normally are. The drip tube fits into that (which kept coming out on us, we eventually had to clamp it on). Then you basically run the drip tube where you want it to go, and where you want it to T off, you get the appropriate T fittings. You need landscape staples to staple the tubing into the soil. It is a bit of a learning curve, as I explained in the video, because drip tubing zones need to be on longer than overhead sprinkler zones. It still saves water in the long run, and best for the roots of the plant, too. It's just a bit more complicated!
Everything looks beautiful with all of the vines! I guess I'm the year if the vine too lol, with purple hyacinth bean, clematis and morning glory!

I love vines too I let my vines grow huge too I garden for butterflies in ft Lauderdale FL.

I’m so glad to hear you say the suoertunias don’t grow well for you. Either I live in central Florida and they don’t do well for me either. I don’t understand how Laura from garden answer can grow hers so big when it’s so hot where she is too. Maybe it’s the humidity?
Elizabeth, I'm with you! I would say the humidity is a big factor, but then Jenny from Gardening with Creekside can grow them big and beautiful and she is in North Carolina with plenty of humidity! Here's what I think it is- I don't know if Central Florida is like this- but here in Texas, we do not cool off at night! Our lows right now are in the 80s at night. Jenny and Lara both get to experience lows at night cooler than that in the summer. I have found the plants here struggle the most when our daytime temps are in the 100s and our lows are still in the 80s. Let me know if your conditions are similar!
Your garden looks great! I just got back to Houston after being away and things look a bit of a mess but mainly ok, first world problems compared to the people who still don’t have electricity. We flooded with Harvey so I sort of feel like I’ve paid my dues but I’m not holding my breath!

Hi Shannon! Do you remember where you picked up the tangerine beauty cross vine?
Yes! I got them at my favorite place ever- Green Acres in Irving. They have a location now in Melissa too. I picked them up in Spring 2023 for $12.50 each!! They were about 3 feet tall at the time. It is so amazing how expensive plants have gotten in just a little over a year!
@@GrowRoots23 yes crazy prices this year! I haven’t been over to the Melissa location. Too many good nurseries in the area!
