Hi! My name is Shannon, and my garden is located in North Texas; Zone 8a. I am a home gardener with limited space and limited funds; so I try my best to maximize my garden with the space I have while being smart and frugal! I found joy in gardening in 2020, along with many many people who decided to garden during the pandemic and became hooked! I created this TH-cam Channel in 2023 because I found a desire to share my joy in gardening and share my experiences as a North Texas gardener. I also wanted to document my garden throughout the season so that I could learn from my successes and mistakes and be able to see it change throughout the year in a very tangible way! I hope you find the joy in gardening as I do, and subscribe to my channel!

Topiary Tree!! Replacing My Planter With a Gorgeous Topiary Tree!
มุมมอง 188หลายเดือนก่อน
It's time to say goodbye to my beloved three tier planter! It is rusted and falling apart, and I got a gorgeous Topiary Tree to replace it! It is a Carolina Sapphire Cypress, a variety of Arizona Cypress; formed into a 3 ball topiary. This tree could potentially get 20 feet up to maybe even 50 feet if not pruned and planted in the ground!! Did I make the right choice buying one as a topiary and...

My hostas thrive in the ground here! I have 7 varieties planted in full shade. My favorite is "Guacacamle."
Good to know! I think the key with Hostas in North Texas is full shade! I love them so much!
Im looking for another self clinging vine. I have crossvine and climbing hydrangea already. Dont want virginia creeper. Not finding another option. If anyone has any suggestions... thanks.
Hi Sara! Depending on what zone you are in, you could look in to Clematis, Coral Honeysuckle, or Carolina Jessamine!
@GrowRoots23 thanks. I believe all of those are twining :( I really need something self clinging. I'm in zone 8, I should have mentioned that!
Evergreen clematis will do very well.
Yes it would!! What type do you have?
Armandii snowdrift.
@@Swe2Rao Oh how lovely!! Thanks for sharing!
I agree with you about Crossvine. It’s probably one of the more beautiful and fancy looking of all Texas native plants
@marleneegan-hm7lr YES!! ♥️
Wouldn’t it be wise to open in a ziplock bag?
That would work!
Looks really beautiful - thoroughly enjoyed your “flower math” regarding the pansies.
Thank you!! 😊
Love your video and Channel I subscribed! I also have an organic food growing channel if you'd like to take a look, can't wait to see more of your video's!
Hi Shannon! One of the plants you showed was the Blue Daze. I’ve had a Blue Daze for several years in a container. When it gets cold I take it to the plant apartment, my garage, let it go for the winter and in the spring give it a haircut and set it back out. Try it if you want to keep it. I’m in zone 8b also.
Thank you for sharing!! I've been thinking about doing this same thing!! Now you've convinced me. 😊❤️
The triple bloom daisy is so cool! I am inspired to try and propagate my hydrangeas since you make it look so easy.
Thank you so much!! Yes, I definitely encourage you to try! The panicle hydrangeas are especially easy to propagate from cuttings in late winter/early spring! Keep in mind not all will take, but I always get at least 1-3 that do very well that way!
Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much! And thank you for watching!! 😊
❤hi shannon, just wonderful is the gerber daisy perrenial in your garden or just an annuals?
Hi Gracie!! Gerbera Daisies are perennial for us! Hardy in zones 8-11. I may have to protect it a bit since it's in a container. 😉
Hi Shannon… Love your garden and all the containers. Just curious to know what are the big circles ( on the left and right hand side) in your videos for?
Thank you!! I think maybe you're talking about the intro to my videos...there's a circle on the left with the Grow Roots logo and a circle on the right is my TH-cam "profile picture". I think I left them in this video longer than normal- Oops!! 🤣 Is that what you mean?
Your containers all look amazing 🌸🌸🌸 Chloe is so cute! ☺️
Thank you so much!! 🥰
Awwww everything looks so beautiful, colorful and happy. Your daughter is absolutely gorgeous!!! so fun to see her. Awesome information as well. 💙💚💛🧡❤️💜 Liz
Thank you so much Liz!! ♥️🥰
@@GrowRoots23 Of course. . . Glad to see what you are doing : )
Well done! Beauty will save the world! 😍
Thank you for watching! ♥️
Chloe reeeally wanted your attention 🤣 I love all the vines!
Oh my goodness, yes! ,😂 Thank you so much!
Thank you very much! I learned a lot of useful information about the plants of our region. I wish you success in promoting the channel and learn a lot of new information.
Thank you so much for your encouraging words and for watching!! I truly appreciate you!
Your garden is beautiful ❤
Thank you so much!! And thanks for watching!
Love your garden and the beautiful hydrangeas! In place of the supertunias and wave petunias, try the Docissima Fragolino petunias. They are truly rockstars in our zone 9 gardens. They can tolerate the heat and humidity of south Texas. Plant in the spring and enjoy all summer and into the fall.
Ooh! Thank you!! I will write those down in my Garden Journal and look for them next Spring!! 😀 Thanks for watching!! ♥️
I discovered that Flipside Vitex isn’t as aggressive as the other varieties. I have 2 of them and so far no spreading in my garden.
Flipside is the one that has purple under the leaves right?? Oh I love that one!! 🤩
Nice tour.
Thank you! ❤️
sheilah
i have some of these. they are from JOs plant
Love the topiary so pretty! Some pansies would look really pretty as well in the pot with the topiary. I wanted to let you know that my Purple hyacinth bean vine finally flowered 😊
Thank you Michelle!! My Purple Hyacinth Bean Vine never flowered!! I have 6 of them and not a single flower! My Black Eyed Susan Vines and Morning Glory Vines are flowering and lovely though!
@@GrowRoots23 nice! My morning glory never did flower.

I appreciate the information. I will be propagating lots tomorrow for tree forms. Besides you, I’ve recently seen 2 other TH-camrs who have given me the most needed info for tree forming Hydrangeas. I understand now why my pee gee shrub looks so flopped over, especially when it rains. I have both the limelight & pee gee. There is one I had propagated from last year from the pee gee in which it can give me a head start on tree forming for next spring when I prune it. I hope my journey runs well.
I wish you success!! I will be tree forming one of my one year old Limelight Hydrangeas next spring! It has a perfectly vertical, very strong branch in the center that I will use for the trunk! If it goes well it will be my second successful tree formed Limelight! Good luck to you!
@@GrowRoots23 Thank you so very much. I will wait patiently to see how it all turns out.
Whats the name of Plant, Flower and what uses of it in medical science?
I believe it is a wild morning glory. I am not sure if it has any medicinal uses, but it is so beautiful!
It's stunning! I added 2 crossvines to my garden last fall and I can't wait until mine grow huge. I just love love seeing this plant. Your trellises and the way you grow the crossvine up them, it's beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this info with us about a truly wonderful vine.
This made my day, and thank you!! Don't worry, if your Crossvine performs like mine, next growing season it will LEAP!! It truly is the best vine!
@@GrowRoots23 That's great to hear! We just got some rain finally, after some drought, so that could help as well. I don't know if it grows where you live, but Carolina Jessamine is a nice vine, too! I'm in East Tennessee for reference. I don't get a ton of blooms on my Jessamine vine yet, but the foliage is pretty. Thought if you needed another vine, you could look into it.
@@awildapproach yes!! I have neighbors that have Carolina Jessamine, and it's great! It's evergreen here in North Texas, and blooms pretty well in spring. I have even seen someone put up a short fence, let it grow, and it looks like a yellow flowering shrub! They do great here.
@@GrowRoots23 Good to hear. Happy Gardening!
I found your video through your Bakers creek review! Very IMPRESSIVE!!!
Thank you SO much!! I didn't grow Gomphrena this year, but I'm definitely growing it next year!! Truly an amazing plant!
I've been growing a "weed" vine on a trellis, allowing it to get woody and huge, and I don't regret it. It's Bittersweet Nightshade. (Not the poisonous one) It has the most beautiful purple flowers that turn into droops of red berries. It seeds itself and layers itself. To manage this: I cut it down to 6" above ground in the fall. Pick up any berries I can see, and make sure to pull the seedlings in the spring. Sometimes, it travels underground so I just rip that part out, back to the main plant. It is a lot of maintenance, but it is worth it to me for the flowers. My yard is kind of wild around the edges, so I don't care if it shows up our there.
Thank you for this info!! Hopefully I can have a similar experience with my wild morning glory!! I agree, some maintenance is definitely worth the gorgeous, consistent flowers that all of the pollinators LOVE!
It looks great Shannon! That was interesting information about the Queen Butterflies! Now i'm going to on the watch out for them:)
Thank you Dawn!! I got my Mistflower this past spring at Denton Plant Factory! I've also seen it at Rooted In Pilot Point, and I think I've seen it at Shades of Green (Frisco or Celina). It's lovely and it has consistently bloomed for me Spring until now.
My coreopsis is also looking sad after looking so great in the spring
Oh no! Hopefully it will make a comeback in the fall, or complete rejuvenation next spring!
you also soak the seeds overnight.
Girl don’t let the morning glory fool you, believe me it’s big headache ❤
Oh yes, I have a feeling I'm going to be paying for it next spring and summer! But it is so beautiful right now! And the bees and hummingbirds do LOVE it. But yeah... I know I'll regret letting it grow!
I have heard that zinnia like your zinderella, that’s supposed to have a fun middle Pom Pom, don’t usually get the Pom Pom in hot climates😢
Marlene that would make sense! No more Zinderella for me. I ordered some new varieties of Zinnia for next year...can't wait! I love how there are hundreds of varieties to try!
@@GrowRoots23 soooo many😃
The zinderella series is just like that I’m afraid. Not the seed company’s fault 😢
Oh that makes me sad. The pictures are very misrepresenting, I soo wish they had turned out like the pictures!
Halfway thru the video now. That view is awesome and even better knowing that its protected. Do you remember me commenting to you on facebook saying that i watched you on youtube? Hey again! DFW Gardener in traning here ☺
Yay, thanks for watching!! I do remember your comment! I so appreciate your support. ❤️ I love the DFW Gardeners pages on FB, Ice learned so much and still learning too!
Nice garden.
Thank you!! ❤️
Beautiful entrance to the house ❤
Thank you so much!
I was just listening to Jim Putnam and he said salvia greggi ( like your red one) is a cool weather bloomer. So spring and fall. Also, about your euphorbia in the planter, the purple color could be from a phosphorus deficiency. I’ve been big on learning about soil issues lately. 😊
Thank you Marlene! Good info!
Hope you feel better quickly.love your front garden.i kinda copied your layering .mine is buble gum with the dusty Miller.love it.
Oh I LOVE that! I am jealous that your supertunias will last all season! Even though I discovered banana water does help them, they still cannot take TEXAS heat, when we do not get below 80 degrees, even at night, for months at a time!
I am so jealous of that beautiful plant stand!!!!!
Thank you Rachael! I was so pleased when I saw it, and right around the block in my neighborhood!! 😍
Nice job.
Thanks Rosemary!
Your Adenium is doing great! They must love our high heat. I lucked out last week and was able to buy a very healthy large plant at Loews for a very reasonable price , and I would be ecstatic if it would produce blooms like yours 🤞
Thank you so much!! It is one of my favorite plants for sure! Good luck with yours!!
Beautiful yard!
Stacie's gardens are truly beautiful! Stay tuned, hopefully she will let me come again sometime!
Summer is the best time to germinate and plant them
I plant my seeds in the spring and allow the seedlings to grow in the full sun outside all summer long! Then I take them inside when temps dip below 45.
