Man i had thought I had ordered the rtf but it’s a pnp, for $125, it’s already ordered from banggood. I looked online I can’t find one now in rtf. I checked TH-cam and figured they stopped making it. Then found this video, glad it’s good plane! But I’m a newbie to air RC hope I can get it flying
Hum.....I've only seen it in a RTF version. Are you sure you didn't order the Volantex P51D 750mm PNF? It's currently priced at $125.99 at Banggood. I have the Volantex P51D 750mm PNF and it's a fantastic plane but not a beginner plane. This one is great as a beginner Warbird and you won't have any problems flying this one. See you in the Air!
Omg yes that’s exactly what I did, i just ordered it yesterday and immediately thought I had ordered that wrong one. So… I did want the larger wing span. But thought it was rtf . Also I have the Eflight umx turbo evo coming as my first plane after the 400mm guys
@@warehouse1429 Well, you're going to have some excellent planes. I can't believe my Volantex p51D 750mm is still flying. That was my 1st Warbird....Awesome!
Hi Gordon! With these foam hinges I disconnect the linkage and work the control surfaces by hand until there is much less resistance. These Warbirds love speed ;-) See you in the Air!
Thanks for all of the awesome vids. Couple questions if you don't mind? 1) Are the stock props quite flexible and forgiving that they won't break easily in crashes? 2) Have you had any crashes with this plane, and how much (and what kind) of damage did it take? 3) You mentioned in the video that if someone asked you right now which brushless warbird for a beginner, this would be your first answer. But...what if we take the warbird part out of the picture, and limit the price to under $130? So in other words, what brushless 4-channel EPP plane under $130 would you recommend (whether warbird or trainer or any style)? Thank you!!!
Thank You Steve! The stock prop is quite flexible and I would think quite durable. I haven't had a crash with it yet but in one of my 1st flights, after landing, I accidentally bumped the throttle switch and ran it into the bank at a pretty good clip with no damage and no broken prop! It passed my durability test ;-) I don't know of another plane that's 4CH, Brushless, and sub-250g for less than $130 US. Even the Arrows Pioneer cost quite a bit more. You might find one that's made of EPS foam for less but I won't touch EPS foam as it's not durable as all.
@@GroundControlRC Well, there are some.... 1) Flying Fish is still available for only like $110 or so. Was there a reason you didn't mention this one? 2) XK A900 is around $100. I absolutely loved my A600, but I was a poorer pilot back then, and the A600 was no very durable. The A900 is supposed to be nearly the same plane but in EPP. (I'D LOVE LOVE LOVE IT IF YOU'D REVIEW THIS ONE!!) 3) XK J3 Piper Cub is brushless, EPP, 4-channel, and under $130...but I think enough people have complained about poor flight characteristics and durability issues (parts other than the foam) that this one is off the table. So what about 1) and 2) above, and are you sure there's nothing else we're forgetting with these criteria?
@@SteveGergetz Hi Steve! I thought you were referring to beginner planes, as I was, so I didn't mention the flying fish as it's PNF with no gyro and no RX. I can only recommend the planes I've flown and I didn't recommend the XK J3 Cub after my review. Limiting the choices to $130 or less really cuts down the number of great flying planes. I published a list of the best RC Planes I've reviewed that required No MODs some time ago and that list is still valid today. Not all are Beginner, not all are Sub-250g, or $130 or less so the Flying Fish, Arrows Pioneer, and Radiolink A560 3D Plane are definitely on that list as well as others. @@GroundControlRC Thanks brother. You've done a TON of good for a TON of people in this hobby with your countless insightful videos, your countless experiments and discoveries, and your active replies to our comments and questions on your TH-cam channel. I really appreciate it all.
I've had some transmission / motor issues with my 400mm warbirds lately and you're the first person I've heard mention that they aren't likely to hold up after a while. Can you tell me why that is? Also, is there any issue getting the propellers you recommended to fit right? The hole looks like a perfect circle where as the stock propellers have more of an oval shaped hole.
Yes, the motor has a metal gear on the shaft that meshes with a plastic gear and that wears out over time. You will also have some pretty good bumps with the prop that can damage the shaft and gears. Brushed Motors also wear out. I stated in one of the videos that you should make sure to get the pack of spacers with the prop. I used a couple of spacers on mine to fit the prop nicely.
It's pretty docile in stabilized mode but it can maneuver and fly fairly fast. I don't know what your experience level is but it would make a great 2nd plane. It could be torque roll. With the stock prop I hand launch at 80% throttle. With the 7x5 prop I hand launch at 60% throttle. I release using a moderate chuck and a slightly upward angle.
@@GroundControlRC Thank you for your advice. I was about to try it when I noticed one of the two screws that hold the motor bracket was sitting out about 3/4 mm. When the prop was spinning it would pull the right hand side of the bracket out making the prop face off to the left which was obviously causing the plane to pull off to the left . I took it home, tightened it - went back, hand launched... Dead straight!!! Sooooooooooo happy. cheers.
I just got this plane but the ailerons don't move very much. Not even in duel rates. And when I give it a little throttle the elevator moves down all by it's self. Do you know what could be the issue? I'm not going to try and fly it like this.
I haven't used the Stock TX for a very long time but if I remember correctly it has a switch for high rates and low rates. Much more movement on high rates. I'd say when you initiated throttle that initialized the gyro which I'm guessing is why the elevator moved down. Did you calibrate the gyro with the plane on it's wheels? I always recommend calibrating the gyro before the 1st flight. Test the modes and make sure everything is correcting in the proper direction. Switch to 3D Mode and you will notice more movement on the control surfaces. You may have to adjust the linkages to get the amount of control surface movement you want, I always do. In fully stabilized mode you're not going to have a lot of control surface movement.
Thank you for the quick response. I completely forgot to calibrate the gyro, so I will try that before the next flight. Do you have a video on all the upgrades you did on this plane? I saw your prop video and the one where you showed the better batteries, but didn't see where you swapped out the receiver. Did you also put better servos in it?

This is a great bird I have one myself, only issue I have is the esc has an electrical smell to it after only one flight, I'm going to replace it. I was going to stick with the original esc replacement apparently they are more robust, are there any higher amp esc that you would recommend that would be suitable for the 280 ?? Great videos you've put out on it so far btw 👍🏼
Thank You Michael! I would check how hot the ESC is getting after flight. Mine gets pretty warm flying hard with the 7x5 Prop and I've put approx. 50 flights on it so far. I haven't looked into a replacement ESC and someone stated the ESC is putting full 2S voltage to the board. I will have to test and verify the voltage output of the ESC and see if the board works fine with a standard 5v BEC. If it works well with 5v input to the board, I like the HobbyWing ESCs and would probably put a 12A in it. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_AV9Nyd

Unfortunately, the ESC is not labeled.
Some folks have posted that it is a 10A ESC and should be rated for 3S but mine runs pretty warm on 2S with the 7x5 Prop.
I would probably put a larger ESC in it for 3S just to be safe.
@GroundControlRC thanks man👍🏼you just saved me from going down in flames lol✌🏽
did you modify the red nose to fit with the 7X5e prop i might have order the wrong prop set
Hi Vincent!
I did modify the cutout in the spinner to match the profile of the 7x5 2-blade prop.
I used a shape duplicator to get the exact shape I needed for the spinner modification and that worked a charm.
Here is a link to the video where I discussed this and provide a closeup of the spinner.

I found your series in the volantex 750, thanks so much for all the hard work much appreciated! Glad to have found your channel 👏👍✈️🛩️
@@warehouse1429 Well, you're going to have some excellent planes.
I can't believe my Volantex p51D 750mm is still flying.
That was my 1st Warbird....Awesome!

Do you do any break in to the control surface hinges before flight? You fly it pretty fast compared to a high wing trainer.
Hi Gordon!
With these foam hinges I disconnect the linkage and work the control surfaces by hand until there is much less resistance.
These Warbirds love speed ;-)
See you in the Air!
It passed my durability test ;-)
I don't know of another plane that's 4CH, Brushless, and sub-250g for less than $130 US.
(I'D LOVE LOVE LOVE IT IF YOU'D REVIEW THIS ONE!!)
3) XK J3 Piper Cub is brushless, EPP, 4-channel, and under $130...but I think enough people have complained about poor flight characteristics and durability issues (parts other than the foam) that this one is off the table.

@@SteveGergetz Thank you so much Steve!
Can a newbie fly this in a docile manner until they get enough confidence to experiment
It's pretty docile in stabilized mode but it can maneuver and fly fairly fast.
I don't know what your experience level is but
it would make a great 2nd plane.
For someone that's never flown a plane I would recommend something like the Volantex Sport Cub 500.

Thanks again
btw...the wife already ordered one on sweet flash deal and I'm pretty stoked....and I think she may be planning on taking over the warbird 😅😂
@@gerrymorris1698 Sweet!
I actually think the tail draggers are easier to takeoff and land than the tricycle gear.
You won't have any problems.

I just got one in the UK for £120 delivered on the strength of this video it looks awesome 👌 I just need to get a trainer and a simulator now as I've never flown before 🤦♂️ 😅 it's only coming with one battery what type do I need connectors etc for spares, brilliant video by the way
You certainly picked a good one to start.

cannot hand launch - mines crashes to the left each time. Aeilerons. rudder etc are all straight - what am I doing wrong? I have had one good flight.
It could be torque roll.
With the stock prop I hand launch at 80% throttle.
With the 7x5 prop I hand launch at 60% throttle.
I release using a moderate chuck and a slightly upward angle.
@@GroundControlRC Thank you. Will try that.
Sooooooooooo happy. cheers.
@@ratcat7668 Success!
@@HORRUS29 All the Electronics are still stock.

Congratulation! I didn't think they would last long at $113. You're going to have a blast flying this P51D ;-)
See you in the Air!
So you running original battery on this or you using a bigger 2s?
After switching out the stock prop to a 7x5 Prop I've been running with a slightly lower capacity but much higher "C" rated LIPO.
They provide all the needed power with the more aggressive prop and approx. the same amount of flight time.
I Like the weight and power of the GNB 2S 550mah 90C LIPO but it does come with an XT30 connector so I also use an XT30 to JST Adapter.
