I've learned multiple times not to freak yourself out from a google search. So many vehicle problems I've had have led to down an internet diagnostics path that would mean major repairs based on the issue from other owners. But I've never had it actually be anything major. Even the time I had a low oil pressure light it turned out to be because the sensor was loose where it screwed into the block. The worst thing I've ever had to do repair wise was a water pump on a 80's Lincoln and that was after several years of ownership. Still not a terrible job.
I tell my wife when we go look at a car that if the engine is warm we’re leaving. She would get mad at me until I looked at a 2006 Magnum at a Dodge dealership. The saleswoman brings the keys out and it smoked like Nick Diaz when it started.
Seller met me with another car at the train station (only 70 miles away), I get to the vehicle and it is a quarter way warm. The only requirement I had and he couldn’t keep his word. Needless to say I purchased it and it lasted a good while before the transmission blew. Love those late 90’s Lexus’ (ES300).
I worked at Mercedes for a few years and tech bought the c63 when it first came out. Ended up blowing the motor in about a month, got it fixed on warranty, fixed his own car and got paid to do it 🤷🏼♂️
Bought a AP2 S2000 from a owner that said that it’ll need a new transmission because it’s difficult to get into the gears, bought it for cheap and replaced the fluid and runs like a champ! I already knew the S2000 is sensitive when it comes to fluids and took and gamble and it paid off lol really glad it did
I remember at the Aussie Benz dealer I worked at we had a few 6.3s with the head bolt problems and coolant in the oil was a terminal failure. The first we knew of it was a customer that restored old WWII planes and had a test strip that detected oil in coolant and Benz was cautious at first but then accepted his concerns. Found a minuscule water trail from the coolant to oil passage on number four cylinder
Thanks for the good info on the 6.3 motor. I’ve been in love with the E class and the C class version of that motor, but didn’t realize they were so temperamental when it comes to maintenance.
Love Alex and his channel! An easy avoidance of expensive headbolt issues is simply to get a 2012 (or 2011.5+)-2015 with the M156, though can't speak for the lifter/cam issues. I have a '12 C63 P31 with 20k miles and it is a dream car.
This.is more common than people think. Over the last 30yrs we have bought a multiple amount of vehicles with what was supposed to be so problematic that they let them go super cheap . We had a friend who was a certified Master mechanic who told us when and what to buy. So a little research can get you a high-end vehicle on the cheap.
Owned one for a couple years now. Random issues; alternator, battery, serpentine belt, idler pulleys, fuel lines. Also I’ve done all the maintenance; oil changes every 5k, trans fluid change every 20k, filters changed every 5k, etc. relatively reliable car but the 8mpg will kill you
Gotta love a simple fix. Although let's be honest here, everytime we get new parts for an install that seems quick and easy, it always takes much longer than anticipated lol

Replaced it with a 2009 Buell 1125R with 22k miles for $3k shipped from Georgia to California. Put a few hundred into fixing some issues on it, but it's been a great bike.
I once bought a Mercedes Sprinter van for $500 because there was oil in the coolant and the blokes mechanic diagnosed a failed head gasket, which in a diesel means a full $7500 rebuild. What the problem really was is a $6 gasket for the oil cooler housing. A couple of hours flushing and a new radiator, pump, hoses and service and it's been fine for 5 years since,

Something like that happened to my car: Bought a 2004 Leon Cupra R last year and after a month the ESP light came on 1-2 per month. My cheap OBD scanner couldnt access the ABS/ESP control unit so I went to a shop (a good one mind you) to have the error code read out. They told that they only got the code, but the diagnose system told them that it was an unknown error; they told me that they need to look at the wiring and check the ABS/ESP control unit and mabye swap it out. I went out of the shop and began looking up the error online. Turns out it was a 17€ brake light switch causing the error...
I bought a 1984 M-B 300D diesel for $400 just for the engine to swap into my 1985. It supposedly had a "broken frame" after being stolen and wrecked, which had been repaired but broke again so the owner gave up. I found it wasn't that bad, just the bracket where the front lower-control arm pivot attaches had cracked. I welded it back and added a strap, as my first time welding, using my $90 Harbor Freight flux-core wire. I ended up finding another engine for my 1985 (great find $300 w/ starter, compression like new). The shop's weld repairs at the upper K-frame later broke when my son was parking it. They hadn't removed enough stuff to get in there and weld properly. I also welded in an L-bracket to make it stronger than new, and later improved the other side when I had the turbo off. So, I went from a 1985 300D w/ failed engine to 2 working cars and spare parts (not cheap nor easy finds for old M-B), for only $700.

body condition is a must, bought a 07 ford fusion that my dad bought from a friend, body mostly wasn't good or bad but the skeleton behind the passenger tail light was horrible. i messed around and broke the housing trying to install the incorrect trunk supports causing me to have to replace it where i found the hack-job they hid, didn't even bother to get everything aligned just put it in and drilled out one of the mounting holes and put the nut on.. what made it terrible was that i over tightened it when i replaced it so somewhere near Atlanta the light cover just popped off and was never seen again..
I feel that with my 335i they have issues and take love to maintain them but whatever i love the way it sounds and the power delivery is exactly what i was expecting
Bimmer Boy lol I feel you there I still have issues with my n55 e92. I’m about to take the motor apart and do a bunch of fixing/bullet proofing/improving since the valve steam seals and head gasket decided to fail on me
My C63 p51 package had a 60 hp gain from IPE headers, catless pipes and full exhaust with a stage 2 tune from euro charged... M156 had loads of room for gains since its detuned from the SLS. I guess with a 08/09 with different internals it had less gains but for NA, 50 hp + from exhaust and tune is huge. Loved the engine, hated the driving experience and the gearbox.
My neighbor owns a late model AMG Sedan and he says: AMG = All Money Gone He drives his C5 Corvette more; has over 220,000 miles on it and still going strong.
Perhaps he tried to drive/treat his AMG like it's a corvette? The straight exhaust on this car is a perfect example.. Also I'm amazed at how many owners try to cut corners on these cars. They MUST be serviced by knowledgeable mechanics using factory spec fluids and parts and I always let mine warm up for a couple minutes.
@@Alvin-1138 my neighbor knows how to treat, maintain, and improve his vehicles. He literally grew up in professional racing as the son of a crew chief and later a mechanic on a racing team running Corvettes and other LS based racing cars. His wife's AMG is well maintained and trouble free. His point, rightly stated, is simply that it costs more money to maintain an AMG vehicle vs. a Corvette or other LS-based vehicle and when an AMG does have failures, they're often the expensive variety.
I bought a 1972 Audi 80 (Fox in America) for $500 in 1979. The owner was a friend and the day it refuse to start, he told me 'half price' as he wanted a thousand. He knew nothing about cars and the service was very expensive, he had no appetite to spend money on it. I took the deal, bought a battery charger, tightened the alternator belt and enjoyed the car for a few years. First front wheel drive car that I ever drove and I was hooked on the performance
Dealer repair quotes are always good for a laugh 😂 haha. 50-something grand to do the heads?? How? Surely a complete new motor would be less than half of that to buy?
The inspection in Kentucky is to just make sure the VIN on the vehicle matches the VIN on the title. It’s nothing to get a vehicle registered in Kentucky honestly
I didn't know that you were a mb mechanic that adds a lot to your credibility. I watch your videos and you got an interesting way about what you do. I want to see a video of you doing the headbolts for a 63 for I too have one and want to know what it entails
I bought my 09 E63 with this engine and the head bolt issue showed up after 3 years of hard running paid MB $6700 to have all the work done and they gave me a 3yr warranty on all the work done to it but I really do love my car first
In my opinion the best engine that ever came from AMG is M113K why? It's pretty bulletproof because of simple build , great torque straight from the factory and no factory issues. Engine you are talking about has great performance... when it works . But at the same time few issues. You forgot to mention about intake camshafts . This is second common issue after head bolts . Overall very nice naturally aspirated engine , just need to know how to take care of it .

Whoever put stickers and gold tape on that car deserves to be ripped off.
body condition is a must, bought a 07 ford fusion that my dad bought from a friend, body mostly wasn't good or bad but the skeleton behind the passenger tail light was horrible. i messed around and broke the housing trying to install the incorrect trunk supports causing me to have to replace it where i found the hack-job they hid, didn't even bother to get everything aligned just put it in and drilled out one of the mounting holes and put the nut on.. what made it terrible was that i over tightened it when i replaced it so somewhere near Atlanta the light cover just popped off and was never seen again..
Thought it was doug demuro at first
Me too
I feel that with my 335i they have issues and take love to maintain them but whatever i love the way it sounds and the power delivery is exactly what i was expecting
Ryan Burkett I have a love/ hate relationship with my n54 E92
Bimmer Boy lol I feel you there I still have issues with my n55 e92. I’m about to take the motor apart and do a bunch of fixing/bullet proofing/improving since the valve steam seals and head gasket decided to fail on me
LegitStreetCars is my go to channel to learn and fix Mercedes since I'm planning to get one soon.
@ViperSA was he talk about the body shop?
My C63 p51 package had a 60 hp gain from IPE headers, catless pipes and full exhaust with a stage 2 tune from euro charged... M156 had loads of room for gains since its detuned from the SLS. I guess with a 08/09 with different internals it had less gains but for NA, 50 hp + from exhaust and tune is huge. Loved the engine, hated the driving experience and the gearbox.
My neighbor owns a late model AMG Sedan and he says:
AMG = All Money Gone
He drives his C5 Corvette more; has over 220,000 miles on it and still going strong.
amg isnt for poor people
Perhaps he tried to drive/treat his AMG like it's a corvette?
Yes! Legit street cars. These guys are awesome. Thanks for bringing them on
This is awesome! I love his channel!
ALEX FINALLY MADE IT! LOVE IT!
Wise words at the end, for sure
Once fixed a Lincoln where most shops would have replaced the transmission by replacing a $100 multi-lever position sensor.
His YT channel is amazing! I own a Xfire and i fixed a lot of my car's engine problems just watching his channel!
Whoa Alex coming up in the YT world, nice collab. One of my favorite channels.
Tyler Hoover wants to know your location
Im glad you guys got alex on here finally. he has great brand specific videos
Someone watched a Tavarish video and decided to go nuts with the gold tape too.
Wow, how honest. Awesome video. Subscribed.
The inspection in Kentucky is to just make sure the VIN on the vehicle matches the VIN on the title. It’s nothing to get a vehicle registered in Kentucky honestly
Utah does that too with out of state titles
I didn't know that you were a mb mechanic that adds a lot to your credibility. I watch your videos and you got an interesting way about what you do. I want to see a video of you doing the headbolts for a 63 for I too have one and want to know what it entails
“He told me to turn my head and cough, but what are you gonna do?”
*Intro music starts*
I bought my 09 E63 with this engine and the head bolt issue showed up after 3 years of hard running paid MB $6700 to have all the work done and they gave me a 3yr warranty on all the work done to it but I really do love my car first
This is the BEST! More AMG content PLEASE!
10:15 He tell the truth on here. If a company paid him. He would say cold air intake would increase hp.
And 6 months later the head bolts fail
In my opinion the best engine that ever came from AMG is M113K why? It's pretty bulletproof because of simple build , great torque straight from the factory and no factory issues. Engine you are talking about has great performance... when it works . But at the same time few issues. You forgot to mention about intake camshafts . This is second common issue after head bolts . Overall very nice naturally aspirated engine , just need to know how to take care of it .
