  • The Wyze Cam Outdoor home security camera costs just 50 bucks. It's a weatherproof, battery-powered camera that comes with two weeks of free cloud storage and a built-in microSD card slot.
    It also has advanced features like time lapse and travel mode, an option that transforms your Wyze camera into a GoPro-esque action cam. The Wyze Cam outdoor supports Alexa and Google Assistant, too, so you can view a live video feed from your smart display.

    I have had 4 Wyze cameras in my house for 2 years. Nice way to get into a Security system gradually without shelling out hundreds of dollars all at once. Bought one camera at a time as I could afford it. Outdoor Cam is great for what I need. I have one camera 9 feet up in a tree, and my solution to charging without climbing the tree every 3 months is I ran a charging cable into the charging port of the camera and ran the cable down the tree to a point 5 feet off the ground. Once every 3 months I connect a little portable power pack to it for about an hour, and it's all charged up. I colored the cable with a brown magic marker so it blends in with the tree and doesn't look bad.

      How did you attach the cam to the tree? I thought about putting it in a birdhouse.

    You didn’t mention it only records 12 second clips and it needs 1 min to cool down before recording another 12 second clip. As a security camera that’s a major problem since you can easily miss what’s happening, someone’s face or license plate number during that cool down period. 12 seconds is just not enough

    • @jhonnatanr
      @jhonnatanr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Secret Agent Steve no it doesn’t record all of the time. That’s only on the regular wyze cam if you have a micro Sd card inserted or pay for the complete motion capture plan. However from my understanding and from what I have seen on reviews the wyze outdoor cam doesn’t let you record more than 12 seconds even if you have a micro SD card in and they don’t let you pay for the complete motion capture plan for the outdoor cam. They’re doing it to conserve battery life but having only record 12 seconds and having to wait 1 min for it record another 12 seconds makes it useless as a security camera in my personal opinion

      I was thinking about checking out the Wyze camera but after reading your comment I think I'll stick with my Blink cameras since they can record up to a minute of video and takes as little as 10 seconds to reset. And both of those settings are adjustable.

    Cons- new, needs more support, needs more shortcuts
    Pros- everything a big brand can can do, night vision, specific zone detection many more!
    BUT it does the BASICS AMAZINGLY! I recommend for any person to get wyze brand!

    I have this at my vacation home and an Arlo Pro 3 setup in my main home. I can't complain for the money. The comment that it doesn't record all the time is a bit off since no battery camera records 24x7. You need a wired setup for that, so in that case get a dvr system. The 12 second clips are fine, the 1 min cool down not so much. However, the base station in the starter kit has a micro sd slot. Personally this is a good basic visual home protection tool but certainly not a full security system. Serves my purposes well, combined with a cove alarm setup.

    ontinuously recording to a micro SD card like Wyze Cam v2 will make the battery life extremely short. Because of this, we did not build this feature and Wyze Cam v2 is still the best option for this use case. However, we did build a "Scheduled Recording" feature where you can schedule specific times for the camera to continuously record to its local micro SD card or record when PIR is triggered though this will reduce battery life. This feature combined with Travel Mode will allow you to take the camera anywhere to record anything you want even if there is no WiFi available.

They say they don't allow a continuous recording because it would kill the battery faster but I'd rather change the batteries out more often then lose the security capacity I only allowing 12 second video. Continuous recording is a must I hope they change this in the future. And I also hope they allow some way of connecting this to a constant power supply if you choose to do so. Blink cameras have many downfalls as well. But at least they allow for a constant power supply to theirs.

      Kim Hedrick Yes and no. You give a tech media company something that’s not ready for prime time and run the risk of something not being fully 100% ready and they’d probably run the risk of broadcasting it. That and the terms of agreement on the beta test forbid releasing any information about the test or product to anyone outside the beta test and can’t comment on any forums or things of that nature, regarding that product. Just not something that seems likely. On there flip side it’s more likely to be a media relations type of deal. Kinda like how media outlets and others of that sort, get their hands on cell phone devices that haven’t dropped for the general public yet but they’re given first look to review it for the respective company. Anyways, my previous comment was more of a “Heyyyyy, not fair” type of thing, not actually Grrr 😡 I’m mad lol

      @@Simonofcalifornia You can't leave it plugged it, WYZE says it voids the warranty and is not safe.

      David Collett it has a bms (battery management system) as all lithium ion batteries do. I actually recommend and use an original wyzecam plugged under my awning outside for past 2 year without any problems. Plus, it’s only $20 and available at any Home Depot.

    It's not for me. I don't want to deal with batteries, and I don't want a base station. I would prefer simple WiFi and a small solar panel for power.

  • @TM-yu9zv
    @TM-yu9zv 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Obviously you did not use this camera to record a motion event. The camera cannot do this. It cannot record to the SD card for motion events. Wyze actually admits to this in their web support. Reason.....would take to much battery. Why give this camera a good review? The 50,000 people like myself bought this camera expecting it to record motion events. We spent $60 each for this camera ( that's a $3 million dollar scam). They haven't said I can return it and get my money back. When they do, I'll change my mind and might buy their brand in the future, until then caveat emptor!

    Why do i need the base station in order for the camera to work? The camera should be wifi and it needs to connect to the router and that should be it. I am not going to buy it since the base station is the stupidest thing i have seen recently when cameras are concerned.

    Wyze Cam Outdoor v1 is not very useful. I have used 3 of them for 3 years. Major purpose would be for a camera location that has no power AND can still reach Wi-Fi. If the camera can reach WiFi you probably can reach it by extending a power outlet and/or using a long USB power cable. If power is possible it is WAY better to use a Wise Cam v3 (indoor/outdoor) so that you have full functionality and don't have to retrieve the camera, charge it for a long time, replace the camera. I avoid CNET since I don't trust the company at all.

    The non-removable or replaceable camera is a deal-breaker. Very unfortunate because I was ready to pull the trigger and order one half-way through the video. Batteries much faster than cameras will. No sense adding to landfills an entire working camera because the battery no longer holds a charge.

    C-Net the fact that you are not reviewing this cam correctly and pointing what the real flaws are, makes me believe that I should not trust your other reviews. How can you miss to say to your audience that this thing does not record continuously which for "security" is a must. That is the weakest most obvious point of the whole thing and you don't mention it. You don't mention that you can only connect 4 cams to the base needing an additional base for a larger perimeter. Again, how can we trust your reviews if simple details like these are not mentioned.

    What a fluff piece -- your journalistic impartiality went out the window when you zoomed in to say the word "incredible" while you tell everyone how to set up the company's product. Lame, might as well call it a 'paid product placement'. And you need help with your audio, get a clip-on mic or something.
