    Just hooked up mines today. There were two updates , I believe one for the base and one for the camera. The one thing I wanted to test was the motion notification. Motion detection is around + - 12 seconds ! So far everything is very smooth. Install was ez and internet / syncing was flawless. I am very happy with the purchase and the updates. For what it is and cost, its perfect for my needs. Thanks for making this review and most importantly , contacting Wyze in the issues. Thanks many and cheers !

  • @iKingRPG

    I have an explanation for the notification delay;
    The way it works, is the camera detects motion, then it records the video for 12 seconds. After the 12 seconds is completed, it then uploads the video on to Wyze's servers, where the Notification is then triggered. I have asked them about this, and they have said it can just be adjusted via Software. We just need to request for them to do that.

      Exactly. What's the expectation here? You're going to get a full on, 24 hour security system for $50?? For what these cameras are and the price they sell for, these are amazing. I can document who has been in my driveway, my garage, my porch and my yard for $200. I'm not sitting in front of a console watching every second. I'm not immediately responding to motion on one of the cameras. Sheesh, some people's expectations are way off here.

    I agree that the notification delay is unacceptable. However, I can report that with my two Wyze Cam v2's, the notification delay is usually around 1 to 5 seconds when my phone is connected to the same wifi network, and maybe just a couple seconds longer when on LTE. But I do seem to have quite a few problems with the videos not uploading or a "fragment" error of some sort.

  • @jarenangerbauer

    Thanks for the good review. This is my first Wyze purchase, and first security camera as well. Agree with you 100% on the delay and audio issues, however I think for the $50 price tag for the camera and base, it was a good purchase. As it's my first camera I don't have anything to compare it to, so maybe I might be missing out on some other cool features at a similar price point.

    I have five Wyze Cams (3 cubes and 2 Pans-1 Pan has been shelved for the time being), and have been anxiously awaiting the reveal and release of the new WyzeCam Outdoor. However, while waiting and waiting, Eufy released a new EufyCam 2 Pro model, which I bought. Sure, the WyzeCam Outdoor is significantly cheaper than the 2 Pro, but when it comes to home security, spending a bit more is totally worth it. Why buy 1080p when I can have 2K? Why settle for 3 - 6 months battery when I can have up to a year? Why have no motion zones when Eufy gives me up to three? And why pay for people detection when Eufy provides it for free? I agree, the WyzeCam Outdoor is a huge fail for me too, and I will continue buying additional EufyCam 2 Pro cameras to cover my property. I plan to modify a Bluebird house at the far end of my back yard (even if I have to build it from scratch) to accommodate one of Eufy’s 2K cameras. Another great review! Thanks!!

    • @dannymcneal
      @dannymcneal 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The reason I mentioned that the Bluebird house is at the far end of my back yard is to say that I tried that last year with a WyzeCam Pan, connected via the microUSB cable and wall adapter tucked inside a weatherproof enclosure. And the WyzeCam Pan was really hit and miss regarding the distance-mostly miss! But when I tested that distance with the EufyCam 2 Pro, the Pro easily connected and provided a steady video stream. So the range on the Eufy’s is definitely a huge improvement. Plus, being wireless and having huge batteries, they can easily record for the duration.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I totally agree. Thanks.

    • @oldshovelhead

      I'm running 2 cubes and 2 pans (along with several Sensors and contact devices, plugs, and bulbs), all cameras are indoor, window mounted similarly to what LifeHackster has shown us. I had also mounted a cube under a porch roof protected from the elements to see if I got better detection - really no difference and there was considerable wifi signal degradation which caused a lot of connection failures so I scraped that idea. For what they are and the price point I am quite pleased with the cameras performance and ease of use.
      I totally agree the Eufy is far superior in so many ways, but at the price point I'm not sure it's an apples to apples comparison with the Wyze cameras.

    • @dannymcneal
      @dannymcneal 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      oldshovelhead - I agree that the comparison between the EufyCam 2 Pro and WyzeCam is not an apples-to-apples comparison. But I’m choosing the EufyCam 2 Pro system over the WyzeCams anyway, regardless of cost increase, due to the superior, well, everything. As I stated earlier, I do not mind paying more if that results in the quality and performance I desire-and for me the Eufy system delivers.

    Just a note about the notifications; once a company sends a notification to Google or Apple, it's out of their hands how long it takes to get delivered and there are a lot of variables in that whole process. It's doubtful that it's Wyze's issue as far as the varying notification times.
    Also, I'm guessing Wyze doesn't send the notification until after the video is done recording and has been uploaded to the cloud ( since the notification is basically a link to the video in the cloud ). So it's going to be at least 20 seconds before they send it out. Maybe they could send two, one initially and then one once it's done processing?

    I have two Wyze Outdoor cameras. Motion detection does not work or does not work all the time. Spoke with two techs, problem not solved. Another big issue is the detection zone. It only covers the bottom half of the frame and can't be adjusted. I use Blink XT2 cameras and like them. Was hoping for a less expensive outdoor solution. My Wyze CamV2 indoor camera is fine. So are my 4 Wyze remote plugs. I'll wait for version 2 of the Wyze Outdoor camera to be release.

  • @4xi3zuQ
    @4xi3zuQ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Remember Wyze did say on their original setup video that the signal does not penetrate through the walls that well and that could be the reason for the delayed motion alerts to the phone.

  • @chia_pet7121
    @chia_pet7121 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    LifeHackster was triggered WAY before the Wyze Cam could. : )
    I only use these for temporary placement where it would be too much hassle for wired cameras. I am currently using two cameras to find the location of where animals are entering my property. Since they need to be moved to many locations, and immediate notification is not required, these fit my needs. For actual security, I would go with both wire and battery units in case of unit damage, power issues, or theft. So I would think of these as a backup system and not a primary one.

    I had long delay issues with my Ring doorbell (and still have issues answering in a reasonable time) really it's been practical from a delivery person dropping something off and I can get the package before porch pirates come and take it. My Wyze Outdoor comes tomorrow - looks like I'll have to run some ethernet to be able to place the base in an appropriate location (adding another WiFi AP in the garage with some ports should be just the trick). Worst case I'll replace the camera on my Ryobi garage door opener that doesn't (hasn't for about 8 months) work. Great video and thanks for the honest review!

    I think you need to retest this using an Android device. I spent 2 years thinking both my Wyzecams one outdoor and one indoor were defective while using a iPhone 8 plus. I was constantly losing camera connectivity, live streaming took forever to load if it was working and notifications were taking as long as what this experience is if not longer.
    I was a click away back in June from ordering the Blink setup when my employer gave me a phone upgrade. I've since moved to a Samsung S20 Ultra and immediately noticed I had none of the issues indicated above with my Wyzecams. I've had my phone now for almost 2 months and I think I've had to recycle my outdoor Wyzecam once. Far cry from having to recycle every second day sometimes twice a day when I was using my iPhone.
    Stability has vastly improved, notifications are quicker to arrive and the entire experience in general with Wyzecam using Android devices has become much more pleasant.

      Because Wyze doesnt MAKE cams.They are a software company that makes firmwares for cheap Chinese cams.
      For example, you buy a Wyze V2 cam, you're just buying a Xiaomi camera that's repackaged, loaded with Wyze FW, then sold by Wyze. Wyze has little to no actual original products.

    I would say that it should be faster however even with the delay picking up at 30 feet is good. Because by the time they get in your house and get what they're looking for it gives you a heads-up. Something is better than not knowing at all. For the price point you can't beat it

      The delay is pretty bad, I have this and other wise cameras and it is much slower than my ring camera. By the time it notifies the person is long gone. Being able to pull it up right away allows you to respond to the person while they are still there and see them in live view before they have left.

    I’m used to arlo pro camera and I just got the Wyze outdoor camera yesterday up and running. Wyze can make this camera better by software updates and they will. I know there working on adding 15, 30, 60 second recording for it. I want that and to be able to add full detection not half screen detection. It’s not a bad camera and for the people complaining about how bad it is then by a real security camera system. Wyze never said that this was a security camera.

To make it for quicker notifications I use my Amazon echo for all my wyze notifications is much faster than wyze. I have no issues with the outdoor camera as of yet. I have three of them and they are working fine. I don't expect it to be perfect even though wyze does a great job doing updates. It is getting better. I bought one during the pre-sale event. It took over a month to arrive. I set it with very high expectations (having used many Wyzecam V2 product before). I was so disappointed with the image quality, connection time delay, image transmission delay (I haven't checked the notification delay and PIR yet. I just know what to expect for those) and all. Huge disappointment for me. I wanted to see what others were thinking and sure enough I found this and some other reviews. There isn't one that says it is excellent (I guess because it simply isn't). The best review says "It is so so..."
    One thing that saddens me so much is that how could a later model camera have inferior image quality comparing to the earlier models. Did they not see this before releasing this camera???
    I am debating if I should keep it or try to return it.

    I feel the cam didn't actually detect you until you took that step back. if so it was actually pretty quick. the problem is not delay it was failure to detect you in the first place, also if your not going to recommend this one and say there are a lot of better options. couldn't you at least give an example of them? list a few names? because all my research lead me to purchase this camera as the best bang for the buck, well not the battery version the version 3. but my only complaint is the night vision IR lights dont go very far in complete darkness even on high it reflects and washes out the image.

    This camera system is not a fail. While I agree with the poor audio quality, the actual video quality is quite impressive for a wireless camera. As far as 40 seconds motion detection, a thief will stay much longer than 40 seconds. At this price point and video quality, it is not a fail. As an example, It will take a lot longer than 40 seconds to break into my shed.

Secondly, I’ve never had issues with notification delay with Wyze cameras. Honestly, I find myself disabling notifications across the board because they come so densely and often. I would ask what sensitivity settings did you set your camera to for notification detection? How far is your is camera from the base station/router? What obstructions does the 2GHz frequency have to traverse? Besides my curiosity there, very good review.

We have a situation where we turn our modem/router off at night (spouse sleeping preferences/ EMF). I was hoping to have a wall-powered outdoor Wyze camera capturing motion events and recording them on the local SD. If these are intended to be security cameras, then the real problem lies in their current business model. They release rebranded products still in beta ("early backer"), then chase them with tons of firmware/app updates, each one seemingly breaking an existing feature. This process isn't suitable for real security use, and people that intend to use Wyze in a security role need to be aware of what they're getting into. However, they are fun to use and cheap as dirt, so I own a ton of their stuff. And I've learned to not be too serious about it. When an update comes out and all my sense kits fall offline, I try to remind myself that it's just a cheap toy and if I wait a day or two, the "dedicated supporters" on their forum will help them work out the issues. But again, you have to step back and realize they've built a business that relies on users posting their hopes/wishes/dreams/daily troubles in a forum to help them finish beta testing their products. Not complaining, just saying... 😋

      It’s obvious that they didn’t listen to the 2 plus years of complaints about zone detection on the V2 camera and they were blowing smoke when the promised us what was suppose to be an outdoor rated V2!
      The slow wake up time from sleep mode is atrocious and not having the option to record beyond 12 seconds is dumb! The camera should have cmc (or cam plus) capabilities as well.
      The propriety battery sucks big time!! smh
