    Travis, you need some rubber between the metal tank flange and the frame. I used an old mud flap or horse mat. But the tank must be isolated from the frame with rubber. Then use your ground wire off the tank to the frame like you did. Great job dude!

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER
      @CLASSICSAREBETTER  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey bro, I appreciate the advice, I had bought some no squeak mat for it, but was a pain while filming so didn't use, I could slide some of that under there easily. Is it for noise while driving or does it effect the grounding?

    • @redneckrestomods955
      @redneckrestomods955 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CLASSICSAREBETTER grounding and vibration issues wearing holes in softer metals. Just like rubber mounting your radiator for shock and wear reasons. The tank is the same way. Sensitive sending unit and electronics in there, so isolating from the frame eliminates noise from other components.

    So someone did this one my 66’ Chev. It is exposed to the weather. Will water get in? Also I have one small tube left open off the sending unit. Can I just throw a breather on it? Thanks in advance 😊

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER
      @CLASSICSAREBETTER  ปีที่แล้ว

      The small tube left open off the sending unit is most likely the vent, you should be able to just throw a breather on it. Long as you have the lines on it secure and a breather on the vent, I would think it's pretty water resistant. Are you running with no bed floor?

    • @TruckThisGarage
      @TruckThisGarage ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CLASSICSAREBETTER ya that’s the problem. No bed there to keep anything from collecting on top of tank

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER
      @CLASSICSAREBETTER  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TruckThisGarage It should be ok as is, but two ideas if your worried... It would look horrible, but you could always ratchet strap a tarp around it or something. I would probably just put a drip pan over it with a brick or bungie cords to hold it in place when it's parked at home, remove when you drive kinda thing. Will buy you time till you get a bed floor figured out.

      That is a very good point. It would be a huge pain to get hung up on one freaking wire up top if you had to pull it. Or at least give yourself a lot of extra wire on it.

    Do you drill holes to bolt on straps only and bolt tank to the two existing holes already on frame separately??

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER
      @CLASSICSAREBETTER  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I drilled two holes to connect one side of the straps. The tank itself is not bolted in, just held tight by the straps. The idea being that with just the straps holding it you can loosen one side and drop the tank if needed, if you bolt the tank itself in then you'd have to remove the bed to loosen them and drop the tank (which would be a pain). Good luck on your project!

    Have you had any problems with the tank since you put it in? I need to do this to my c10 soon.

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER
      @CLASSICSAREBETTER  ปีที่แล้ว

      Only issue is when I switched to fuel injection, the hole was too small for an in tank pump, so I had to use a Holley inline pump. Far as the tank itself, it has been just fine.

    • @invisableobserver
      @invisableobserver ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is an issue that LMC should have informed the buyer & corrected the problem since most builds are EFI today. @@CLASSICSAREBETTER

    What are your thoughts on spraying a rubberized coating on the tank?

    • @CLASSICSAREBETTER

      I don't think it would hurt anything, but probably overkill. I did go back and add some thin rubber sound proofing under just the straps, no squeaks.

    Perhaps you can help me. I have a 2003 E350. It's a box. I need a gas tank but I've had no luck finding a used one in any good shape. And the new one is very very expensive. Could you recommend a way I can find some other gas tank to install. Since it's fuel injected that's going to make a difference correct?

      I don't normally work on vans, but from a quick search I see that they are a little pricey starting around $200-300. Best bet if you don't want to buy new is to call a few local pick n pull type auto junk yards, search FB marketplace and ebay. Best of luck on the hunt!
