Another nice tip is if your low to the ground and you notice a radar missile launched at you nose down ever so slightly the guidance system will often over correct and send the missile right into the ground trying to lead you allowing you to keep your speed and getting rid of a missile
How to survive in non-supersonic, non-countermeasure 8.7 or 9.3 planes vs SU-25 or A-10. Gaijin seems to think this is a fair matchup. I challenge you to prove them in any way right😂
This is the stuff I'm constantly trying to tell people who tell me Top Tier is RNG. You cannot dodge that which you do not see. If you see the missile at launch, you are almost guaranteed to be able to trash it. Current top performance Fox-1's like Aim-7F, Super 530D, and R-27ER are so cracked that dodging them kinetically is practically impossible. You will notch this missile, or you will die. End of story. The other part of it is making sure not to use too many countermeasures. If you notch correctly, it should only take one pop of chaff. IR's may take a few flares but no more. I can count the number of times I have run out of countermeasures in TT on two hands ever since I learned to use them properly. Conserve your countermeasures, and if you see a radar lock, don't turn into it. You're not getting the missile off first. Just play it safe, go back into the notch, and force a merge.
@@GeneralLee2000 Yup. Many times, knowing how to survive at top tier means knowing the actual science behind the systems. The moment I explained to a new guy I recently came across what notching was in full and told them about RWR blind spots, they started doing notably better trying to exploit them both as much as he could.
dude i was playing with on discord had a macro to dump a frankly obscene amount of chaff/flares, damn near a continuous amount of tinsel and burning magnesium emitted by his planes arse. he kept raging that all those countermeasures weren't effective instead of learning why they were leading the missiles straight to him.
From my understanding notching also matches your closure rate to enemy radars as the ground making the radar filter you out entirely as ground clutter, though i'm unsure if this is modelled in game.
Notching works because pulse Doppler radars bounce waves off of objects and then go back to the radar. The only way this works is if you are getting closer or farther away from the radar. If you are perpendicular then the missile loses its lock.
Compared to notching if you are close enough to the ground you can dodge most missiles. A lot of times in head on people make the mistake to go up in altitude just a little bit which is the wrong maneuver to do
A good tip is to not try to notch a aim 54 when it’s out bulled onto you. Most of the time it won’t follow the chaff if you aren’t already semi notching it, and will sometimes even still get you from cold aspects. If your going super fast then a good idea would be to go left or right till your pretty much all the way notching and then once it’s about 3 km away pull to the opposite side. It won’t be able to keep up with the gs and it’ll miss every time.
the reason the rockets loose lock when you fly low is a thing called ground effect, Radar clutter created by the objects on the ground deflecting the radar waves.
Does turning off the afterburner help avoid rockets when chaffing? Asking since I haven't reached jets yet and I've seen a lot of criticism towards players complaining about flares not working while they were using afterburner.
turning off afterburner and flaring (not the same as chaffing) would help if it’s a heat seeking missile, since your afterburner will cause the missile to ignore the flares. to my understanding chaffing works better and worse depending what radar mode you’re on and how the plane is flying, if you’re “notching” how he showed in the video chaff works best since radars have trouble detecting horizontally
The problem is i have a mouse glitch where it will randomly scroll without me clicking anything if I go off of wep. I was hoping there'd be something about what to do without countermeasures, Gaijin's balance is just...^^ Here's me in my f-104A in the american tech tree, thinking I might finally get away from unfair matchups (aka sabres facing supersonics), only to barely ever dodge R-60M from SU-25 etc. no matter how hard I pull, even if it starts from 4km away. Would you recommend the F-100? I heard from a buddy the F8U-2 is supposed to be rather good? Honestly, as I am seeing it right now the only thing I can do to reach anything proper is using some early jets to grind out to something better because as it is I am only losing what little SL I have and learn nothing
If you check out my F-104 video I actually play it in there, but your best bet is to keep your speed up and do some small S-turns to bleed the speed of the missile before it gets to you. If it's a Su-25, go headon and fire your AIM-9B at their R-60M after they launch, it'll serve as a kinda flare
@@GeneralLee2000 I just watched it. Thank you for the tips, I will definitely try that. Hopefully gaijin can balance the game better within the next decade or so lol
As a console player. You are unable to look around and move around at the same time. And the looking around is a pain in the ass and is kind of hard because you have to be very precise
Hey one problem I always have is I always get chased by 4+ enemies when I'm alone, how can I not always be in the worst place at the worst time ? I keep dying in top tier solely for this reason, my team dies 90 percent of games I play and I'm caught alone trying to defend 4+ enemies and die, this happens to me almost every game.
Also, being a Consol player myself, I can tell you right now switching radars is almost impossible without some type of key binding too much going on too fast to try to hit button combination to put different radars
No do not do this. If anything you can go only flares if you really know what you are doing but I would recommend mixed or flare priority depending on jet

@@lukagg998 That is simply false. These missiles have no datalink, the missiles have a seekerhead, which "sees" the reflections coming back towards it and chooses where to guide based on that.

The latter is very reliable as most people have their guard down if they don’t actively check their 6
Real life Aim-54 are nothing at all like the ones in the game. IRL they were very unreliable. Some wouldn't track at all, some would just fly off to space, but ALL of them struggled to hit small targets like Fighters. They were made to take down slow big bombers, not fighter jets. So they struggled to target track and maneuver on them. In the game, they are just like the top IR missiles in terms of tracking and maneuvering. only difference is they use "radar". The game has no difference between radar or IR. the game is coded for the missile to just track the target. The Aim-54 is the most unfair and OP missile in the game, and they just introduced an even better version. No single Nation should have such an unfair advantage over EVERYONE else. Just imagine how fucked it's going to be when they add the Aim-120... Since basically only the U.S has them, they are again going to be the most OP and unfair Nation(taking away the current "balance" of multiple nations having the F-16)
