Normally you can turn off the ground clutter filter meaning you could pick up notching targets with the awg-9, problem is over land you are gonna get all the ground clutter, over sea this technique is golden
It's not that the radar doesn't see notching, it sees your aircraft, but as your speed is relative to the speed at which the ground is closing on the radar resulting in the computer filtering it out automatically
@@midnightanimal708 right but I’m putting it in simple terms :) it’s not so much how it actually works, it’s just what the average person needs to know so they aren’t like “WHY NO LOCK THIS THING SUCK”
Man uses B-scope radar. Based. I'd argue the manual target selection is a tad too clunky for actual usage, and the meta of small maps and fast furballs means it's difficult to use the manual target selection to its fullest (great for EC maps though). Plus, all of this is why the Tomcat had a WSO operating the whole system anyways. It'd be nice if the auto cycle and manual selection mode was switchable in flight. I'm still a bit skeptical about the multi-stage afterburner's actual existence, the scroll wheel causing weird things to happen with the throttle is a known thing (in arcade, scroll wheel will allow you to push non-WEP aircraft through every percentage point from 100% to 105%). I feel like multi-stage throttle would warrant an announcement from Gaijin and some sort of UI update (even given their reputation for crappy feature inplementations). Was hoping for an insight on the functional difference between the PD and PDV modes (yes, I know one is speed-based, the other probably does other radar filtering), but oh well.
I actually have the answer for you. It’s the same mode actually but information is presented differently. PDV just SHOWS you the dead zone with the thick line across the bottom and it ignores distance but rather faster targets appear higher and farther away from the blind zone and targets slower and closer to the blind speed/zone are just above it. It ignores distances…if that makes any sense regular PD does show velocity it shows distance and velocity is shown on the HUD, not in radar screen…at least not clearly. The velocity can be guesstimated by the line that shows you the trajectory of the aircraft. The longer the line the faster it’s moving. However PDV is simply a more in depth mode for looking at what’s the fastest target
I agree it’s harder once the furball develops but at that point I’m in in 9km ACM mode anyways as it’s even more reliable than the cyclic lock. Without this RIO ability TWS is nearly unusable

It’s a blessing and a curse, it often times causes me to lose the one circle because it actually overshoots and they lose more energy in the turn and they get inside my turn radius and kill me.
@@Monarch683 it only turns into a two circle AFTER the one circle and if they clap your cheeks in the first circle you never make it to the second one, see what I’m saying?
@@Klaus_Klavier No it doesn't? It all depends on which direction you and your enemy turn. Adjust accordingly to try to go two circle when you enter the merge.

Great video, but maybe I’m three. Have mouse wheel set to throttle, but it goes into stage 1 and no higher. Have played with settings under throttle axis, but no joy. Will you help me out, please?
Stage 1 afterburner (which I’ve heard called “Half-terburner”) doesn’t look different throttle wise the only way you can tell it’s on is by the sound change and fuel consumption and notably only being able to get JUST ABOVE mach 1 (usually mach 1.05 is max speed on halfterburner)
I was pretty sure this video would fall flat but a lot of people seem really like this style. I’m thinking I may try to do a series on it. It originally was a one off just because how complex the F-14 systems are compared to anything else but if people really like the style I don’t want to disappoint lol
@@Klaus_KlavierGaming yeah I mean you seem to know so much how things work like I never knew the 54's way of tracking you are also really good at explaining things clearly
I’ve only had 2 games where I’ve been able to use the F-14s speed and dive rate effectively, 1 one before and 1 was after I watched this video. Every other god damn time, I got screwed because the Mirage 2000s just beat me to high Alt or flank the entire map, but I get told it’s a “skill issue” and not the Mirages and Magics being OP as balls
i dont yet have the phoenix but like even in the first match after watching this video it helped me so mutch to actually see where the enemy is and then lock for getting a sparrow kill for him
Thanks so much Klaus, this helped me a lot, I’ve had jets for a while but just kinda switch radar on, got a lock and hoped for the best. The only question I have is, I switch to TWS, but it says “TWS HDN”. I press my radar lock button but doesn’t work.
Many changes have happened since this video, TWS HDN is “track while scan; head on” which is fancy way of saying it’s best for head on targets this distinction was made for the Yak-141 and Mig-29 who have a separate TWS mode that is a little better against notching targets but worse against head on targets which is now called “TWS” As for the lock button it’s not the same as it used to be, in my other video on my channel you’ll see more of my key setups you have to manually slew the radar on the radar screen over the blip you want to attack, then click lock when it’s over the radar return you want
cyclic targeting isnt that bad; just a little annoying sometimes. Plus, I'm not sure what bindings I would even sue for the x and y axis for the manual radar locking lol
I’ve got a 2.4 KD in the f14a and I’m almost ace crew with about 500 kills. Pretty spot on, personally I don’t carry Phoenix’s I usually bait 7F’s, pick off peeps in furballs, and force 1v1’s when I can. The 14A is pretty solid but if you want to have a great time in it learn what it’s strengths and weaknesses are. Also keep in mind you have a massive heat signature so if you find a PL-5, Magic 2, or even a r60 / 60m coming turn off afterburner throttle down to 95%, maneuver / flare but you have to at least be going Mach so you won’t bleed too much speed. Don’t rely on chaff unless I want to break a lock early on before the SARH missile fires. I see a lot of guys cry about chaff being useless when they get hit by a SARH. 7F, R24r, I think E2 / sky flash ignore chaff. Also master going cold and do not roll and pull on your elevator when ur wings are swept back above 75% you will rip same as similar to the phantoms / US jets
@@soto1649 learn to crank first of all. I could make a tutorial on it but there are a ton already. In a nutshell flip the aircraft to one side once you see the missile coming at you then using A and D keys flip the opposite direction you were just Turning and turn the other direction now, if you time it right and do it right the missile will lead one direction and not have the ability to pull that hard back to lead you in the reverse direction. Lot of people are really good at it. I’m not great at it and only works sometimes for me. But cranking will help prevent getting sparrowed and usually you can keep the lock while cranking so if he doesn’t do it you’ll kill him and his missile will miss. Now currently you have zero chance in a dogfight. That’s just a sad truth. However the EJ Kai is one of the fastest phantoms top end wise and you can beat the F-14 if you keep your energy you should be able to keep hauling ass in the direction you were traveling and if he turns he will lose too much speed to catch you and you have to disengage at that point. His top speed isn’t quite as good as a phantom and his power to weight is certainly worse so he will struggle to catch up. If he tops out on speed or climbs a bit he might begin to catch you but he’s more sluggish than you are so your best bet is get separation and NEVER engage in close range dogfight, your only hope to to learn to crank and pray he’s the typical war thunder player
This is great honestly, it's embarrassing to watch youtubers fly at tree top level with mach 2 capable aircraft and then try to lecture others about how to fly correctly. #bring back flying.
WT models PD improperly. western PD radar is automatically adjusted to ground speed of 0 (to filter out the GROUND clutter), not relative speed to the aircraft.
People in the comments say it actually helped and honestly that makes me happy, if more people utilize this aircraft to its fullest potential not only are they going to enjoy it more, I’m going to enjoy it more
@@Klaus_KlavierGaming agreed, I’ve saved this vid for when I unlock the plane and then I’ll rewatch it. Lots of the tips sounded familiar from my time flying it on DCS 👍🏻
In DCS for sure not sure about WT but a Phoenix is easy to notch for fighter sized targets when it is coming top down. It really was made for high altitude stuff. Even close in and firing bulldog it can easily be notched and since some of themn burn visible smoke for a long time it usually gets spotted close in.

@@Klaus_Klavier Yeah the cannon is mounted kinda weird but we better get used to it because that's how it's gonna be from here on out for the majority of aircraft.

I dont even have the tom cat but im hard grinding it so far working with the F6F Hellcat but learning higher tier aircraft is helpful to see what im doing wrong
It’s not terribly useful outside of TWS but with TWS it’s a must. The cyclical targeting thing at the start is what allows you to do it. But then you can’t auto lock someone by looking in a direction and pressing lock anymore you’ll forever have to get a pipper on them and lock them. I wouldn’t turn off cyclical targeting for anything without TWS personally. But the B-Scope radar which is “rectangular Radar” I can’t say enough good things about it

It’s an axis set of keys (I used numpad) you can also use arrow keys but you need to set the axis for “horizontal radar” and “vertical radar” if you type either of those into the keybind search feature like you seen me use it’s going to be the only results. If you have any questions feel free to ask
I had been struggling to play the F14 and use AIM7's well for so long. I watched this video and got 3 kills first game after, tried several other guides before this too. By far the best guide I've come across.
This is by far the best tutorial i have ever seen on a F14
I have been struggling with the F14 and this really laid it out. thank you for keeping it simple and right to what you need to know. im finally playing it like it should be played and getting kills. thanks!
Could you do a complete flying guide, I trust your voice.
Despite me not even having the tomcat the afterburning stage has helped me as i never knew that there were more than 2 on most aircraft
And some of the stuff in the video has now helped me to counter enemy tomcats as a viggen player
This is the third time I'm watching this video and I don't even have f14 and I don't want to play f14. It's just that I love how he talks and explains things and I love the title of the video hahahahhaahaha
Also just plain old useful for good radar at the start
you sound more pissed off then my sophomore year math teacher who divorced 3 times over a 4 month period. great video
WHAT
I like the no bullshit approach, thanks for showing off the tomcat.
The Military like manner of explaining is nostalgic as fuck, love it.
Dude literally cut the wings of the Mig just to show a point, savage
Great way to explain it. I was lost till I found this video! We explained stuff the same way in the Army.
“Keep the Booger Hook off the Bang switch until you are ready to bring the hate”
Are you a relative to Nick Herr by any chance? Just curious
gaijin will have to start releasing user manuals with every new feature they add lol
Bros got that Weatherman in the middle of a tornado type vibe. Great vid.
😂 that’s how it feels to always play top tier like I do
I like how this gives tips for using other jets too with basics about radar use. I'm glad I found this it's really helpful
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This has made the stock grind SO much easier!!!
tells to play it as "old day phantoms", "high alt interceptor", then proceed to dive right for the first enemy
but guide was good bro thanks
Lmao you got me there but plans changed quickly when the fight developed and I had to adapt and that’s the name of the game isn’t it?
@@Klaus_KlavierGaming totally understand XD
Thanks for the tip about the radar settings. Helps with my lag since I’m on console.
It ignores distances…if that makes any sense
regular PD does show velocity it shows distance and velocity is shown on the HUD, not in radar screen…at least not clearly.
Holy fucking shit I have been looking for a month trying to find a good tomcat video and I have finally found it thank you for actually showing and giving the best tips I’ve heard. Wow man. Easy subscription
Better than Philly in usefulness
Bit of an a**hole comment, don’t ya think? “Philly” isn’t really the sort of guy you go to watch for tips and tutorials💀
@@theegunpro4561 phly is just a hype man it’s what he’s good at, making a dumb clickbait thumbnail and being the human equivalent to Aussie Shepard, overly hyper energy.
He’s a very good player, I won’t deny him that but in terms of tips and tricks and teaching people how to do things he’s not very good at it.
Also the f14 has ridiculous energy retention if you manually extend the wings anywhere below 1000km/h
It’s a blessing and a curse, it often times causes me to lose the one circle because it actually overshoots and they lose more energy in the turn and they get inside my turn radius and kill me.
@@Klaus_Klavier You shouldn't be going one circle in the F-14 anyways. Two circle is where the Tomcat really shines.
I love how mad he is
Actually makes me feel stupid
Taught me a few new things about the tomcat! Thanks mate! You earned a new sub!
You should continue making tutrorials for these things. This is the best tutorial I have ever seen.
I probably will in the future. Been busy with work and I am getting married soon so my life has gotten a lot busier since I made these tutorials
I am four, I am stupid. After this guide. I may be 5 but certainly not the bottom of the team anymore.
Thanks so much for this guide lol. Absolutely zero nonsense. Just got this plane and was totally lost before watching this!
just got the thing didnt have a clue how it worked, now have a clue how it works, ty
There are so many content creators telling people that TWS doesn’t have IFF 😂 thanks for the tips!
best way to explain anything fr
Thank you so much for this, helped me understand a lot of shit I never knew existed.
I wish everything in the world was explained like this
I feel like warthunder has come to a point where there is way toomuch keybinds, For me the biggest hurdle for flying the F14 was putting actual keybinds down...
Try DCS then. You'll see how not true that actually is.
I have keys that do multiple things yeah it’s nutty
@@rwduece122 Atleast in dcs you can interact with the cockpit to reduce the amount of BS you have to bind... kinda...
Welcome to modern aircraft. They're complicated "weapons systems", they're a long way from the simple "fly and gun" days, and a lot of this shit isn't automated IRL.
Thank you for teaching me how to use the f14 before I unlock it today. I don’t want to be a useless F14 like half the players.. :)
I still have a bit before I get the tomcat and I am stuck grinding in a a-10( I bought it at first for trolling my friend in Custom battles) and I am trying to be a better player in jets
When I get the tomcat In a week, screw phoenixes, I’m takin 2 9H’s and 6 sparrows baby
first jet with grindiong the event tomcat felt like a idiot not able to shoot, thanks so much !!
You sound like a natural army instructor. I like your video
Never knew about the slew on TWS I've avoided using it because it was messy untill now, thankyou
What's the key bind for being able to move your slew?
Man i need that thumbnail for my meme folder
Great video, but maybe I’m three. Have mouse wheel set to throttle, but it goes into stage 1 and no higher. Have played with settings under throttle axis, but no joy. Will you help me out, please?
Stage 1 afterburner (which I’ve heard called “Half-terburner”) doesn’t look different throttle wise the only way you can tell it’s on is by the sound change and fuel consumption and notably only being able to get JUST ABOVE mach 1 (usually mach 1.05 is max speed on halfterburner)
I didn't even know about the afterburner
If you close the wings, you don't have to rely to much on afterburners to accelerate.
Probably the best how to video I've ever seen you should make a series of this type of stuff
Now if only the Magic 2s and Mirages would f off so I can actually use the advice in this video effectively
Yeah this was before them, they are scary to deal with for sure.
SIR, YES SIR! NOW STOP SCREAMING, SIR!
😂
i dont yet have the phoenix but like even in the first match after watching this video it helped me so mutch to actually see where the enemy is and then lock for getting a sparrow kill for him
oh and i unlocked the phoenix missiles in that match
Thanks so much Klaus, this helped me a lot, I’ve had jets for a while but just kinda switch radar on, got a lock and hoped for the best. The only question I have is, I switch to TWS, but it says “TWS HDN”. I press my radar lock button but doesn’t work.
Many changes have happened since this video, TWS HDN is “track while scan; head on” which is fancy way of saying it’s best for head on targets this distinction was made for the Yak-141 and Mig-29 who have a separate TWS mode that is a little better against notching targets but worse against head on targets which is now called “TWS”
As for the lock button it’s not the same as it used to be, in my other video on my channel you’ll see more of my key setups you have to manually slew the radar on the radar screen over the blip you want to attack, then click lock when it’s over the radar return you want
So basically when it comes to actually flying in a match just fly high, notch, shoot missiles and then clean up what’s left?
correct
I enjoyed this ted talk
cyclic targeting isnt that bad; just a little annoying sometimes. Plus, I'm not sure what bindings I would even sue for the x and y axis for the manual radar locking lol
It's almost like we already have throttles that go up to 110%. I don't understand why the throttle isn't delaminated from 0%-105%
The casual air-to-air melee kill on the mig :D
Within the first 12 seconds he earned my sub

Thank u bro i fr thought u had wway more subs cus of the good quality
This^
You have tips to how to defeat spaded tom cat in ejkai?
6km high blood pressure lol
Probably accurate
Loved this video, the style of it was perfect
This was really good turtorial, entertaining as well!
This is great honestly, it's embarrassing to watch youtubers fly at tree top level with mach 2 capable aircraft and then try to lecture others about how to fly correctly. #bring back flying.
WT models PD improperly. western PD radar is automatically adjusted to ground speed of 0 (to filter out the GROUND clutter), not relative speed to the aircraft.
this is the kind of brutal teaching people need 😂
People in the comments say it actually helped and honestly that makes me happy, if more people utilize this aircraft to its fullest potential not only are they going to enjoy it more, I’m going to enjoy it more
@@Klaus_KlavierGaming agreed, I’ve saved this vid for when I unlock the plane and then I’ll rewatch it. Lots of the tips sounded familiar from my time flying it on DCS 👍🏻
He sounds like a mad yet sophisticated Ben Shapiro
In DCS for sure not sure about WT but a Phoenix is easy to notch for fighter sized targets when it is coming top down. It really was made for high altitude stuff. Even close in and firing bulldog it can easily be notched and since some of themn burn visible smoke for a long time it usually gets spotted close in.
Amazing Presentation

I just unlocked the Tomcat and want to learn how to spam Phoenix
haha thanks for the guide man! I'm having a huge amount of trouble with the cannon as it's angled in a very weird way xD this made me feel more like an idiot, but at least I learned something!
It’s okay, if you played a lot of the F-104 you’d have a better time with the gun and I didn’t play a lot of F-104 only a little bit of it so the side chin cannon is very weird
@@Klaus_Klavier Yeah the cannon is mounted kinda weird but we better get used to it because that's how it's gonna be from here on out for the majority of aircraft.

This man definitely got killed by friendly f14s in simulator lmao
Pfft please, the Aim-9H loves it when friendly tomcats are in the area. I’ve been on both the receiving end of it and the guy who watched a perfectly good missile veer off target and tk because a friendly flew in too close out of nowhere
Thank you very much, you just helped me (the dumbest and worst war thunder player)! before the guide i made a kill every third game with that plane now i can do at least 2 kills every round.
You really did this for idiots lmao. WEP settings at the beginning and everything. I literally said “You really think I’m stup-… oh” 😂
Tbh I haven't played in a long while so I did need the radar settings
finally some good tuturial of war thunder
I dont even have the tom cat but im hard grinding it so far working with the F6F Hellcat but learning higher tier aircraft is helpful to see what im doing wrong
Yo wtf. I did *not* know you could manually slew the radar pipper in War Thunder. And I've been playing since 2014.
But the B-Scope radar which is “rectangular Radar” I can’t say enough good things about it
Unfortunately all you talked about were the Phoenix missles which you didn't want to take with yiu in the first place.
