Everything in this video is still valid and has gotten me Top 10 on the Air Realistic Battles Leaderboard. I'll update in the future if anything changes and/or stops this method :)
For staying low against radar missiles, its not a bug in war thunder. Its a real life tactic called Terrain Masking. Search radars are verry susceptible to ground clutter and will cause them to either incorrectly track the target, or lose lock. Also, since radar missiles are meant to be fired at long distances, they track you based on where you will be by the time it reaches you, unlike IR missiles which will try to follow you based on where you are. Knowing this, if you dive toward the ground fast enough and low enough, the radar missile will just hit the ground since it cant tell what altitude it's at, and only goes where it thinks you will be.

Well put together. There're many guides on how to engage enemies in top tier, but very few covered the topic of how NOT to engage like yours do. Many real pilots have pointed out that bleeding energy while chasing someone will make you a rather attractive target, which is why a plan for separation is always needed before committing into anything. This is especially important for folks flying inferior platforms like F-4S against 3rd gen fighters, since any one of them with a working brain and enough determination will easily catch and kill you. Another useful thing is to pre-emptively fire off CMs if you feel yourself in a vulnerable situation and too occupied to look around. This can really make a difference if someone suddenly leaps over a hill and yeets a 9L at you from point-blank while you're busy operating radar and weapons.

I dont think the "stay low" trick works anymore after the Sky Guardians update. Now I get hit 99% of the time from radar missiles when flying at the deck. Its a shame
It’s not gone you can still dodge radar missile but for me the problem is the f14 I keep getting destroyed by r60 and aim9 using the f14 even if I drop to 0 thr
So it's not an issue with the game. The radar in game is designed to work like that, because that's how radars work irl. Staying low to the ground works like this because of the ground clutter sending signals back to the sending unit
Yes but the distance between the ground and the radar is far worse than in dcs and other simulators. I’m dcs you have to be so close to the ground but in wt you can give yourself a little room to freely move
Honestly I used to suck in the f-16 but your videos have helped a lot and now I have a positive kd in every single top tier jet i actively use (i have somewhere near 580 kills and 490 deaths in mig-21bis)

This doesn't apply only to top tier. But at 9.3-9.7 also Due to Su25 and A10 spam (and most of the time players that use them being blind) low side attack is very good(or at least you wont be killed first). Also spotting system may be busted but RWR or nose radar are working pretty good to "spot" enemies that may be nearby but your game decided to Fyou.

I still have trouble with going too far away from my team, missing most of the fight, or eating IR missiles. But I laugh when I see all the radar missiles strike the earth. Just gotta keep practicing. Also that transsonic cone fuckin hurts in a phantom. It's all you see going low.
Problem is if your aircraft has a sub par radar like the f4s phantom 2. The when staying low so does everyone else meaning your now in effective unless you get lucky and are the first to spot the dummy
You just gotta find a way to figure it out. I used this same method with the mig23mla which has half the missiles the f4s has and cant compete in dogfights against 4th gens, and i did well in it.

Good knowledge of the jets you go against is extreme for any game not just war thunder. With that said during the time of this recording the F-14A was the only f14 model in the game which it only had Aim-9H's and with that fact they simply can not lock me front aspect because they are only rear aspect IR missiles. :) have a good day

This is very useful video, however I have some issue. The second I get in contact with one enemy I get spotted and it feels like everyone instantly is going for me. It’s okay, I can dodge all the missiles and stay out of their guns, sure. One thing I can’t understand: half enemy team riding my six, but my team still manages to vaporize instantly. This drives me mad and I just feel endless helplessness 😢
Also looking forward for more mig-29 and mig-23 videos! And maybe some kind of tutorial on how to get really quick kills during 1v2 or 1v3. Because I can hang such dogfights all day long, but struggle to get the numbers down in the process.
i really dislike the stay low meta for these small maps, thats just not how fights go in real life and im glad in big maps there is a advantage to going high and getting BVR missile launches on low flying people, besides this radar issue in completely unrealistic for jets like the f16 or the mig29 the radar either sees where you are or it doesnt. Hopefully they get rid of the small maps on top tier but i highly doubt it.
Luckily War Thunder was built under the idea of "immersion" and not "realism". Its a video game it wasn't designed to be 100% accurate if that is what you are looking for I suggest DCS. But if not then the simple answer is to just deal with it. I enjoy realism but i also enjoy war thunder so for me its not even a question if I should stay miserable wishing for 100% realism. Just enjoy the game for what it is.

Its speed. Watch how fast it comes to you. if its super quick at closing the distant between you and the enemy its IR if its a little slower on the start and your RWR is ringing then its radar.

No if it was a bug gaijin wouldve fixed it. Its a targeting issue that even IRL radars suffer from. Just more useful in war thunder cause i dont think irl pilots would risk it.
No, not a bug. Radar is effected by "ground clutter". This phenomenon exists irl and radar waves will bounce off the ground near the jet which in turn will "clutter" its tracking. This wont work against advanced radars systems that can doplar pulse multiple beams.
From the look of it all, you just get really lucky. You don't really do anything different than anyone else, you also fire off missiles like your handing out gum to kids in class. You just get lucky more than others. You don't keep an eye around you, you tunnel in on every first enemy you see, you don't do anything different than the typical player. Again, you just get lucky more than others.

My tactic in the F-14B: Stay high, stay fast, if I have a AiM-54 coming at me and I know it I’ll just notch and chaff that. Stay out of fox 1 range especially against MiG 29s Bring 2 phoenixes and shoot them off at 2 different targets from 20-30 miles away Get lower and do some sparrow stuff have winders and guns ready for a dogfight, And I constantly get 3 kill games from that (mostly from sparrows and winders) And I run with 2 54Cs, 3 7Ms, and 3 SWs 45 mins of fuel, manual wing sweep, and a cool skin
Flanking due to poor spotting system is a great way to stay unspotted, also stay away from the middle of the map as AI can spot you for the enemy team!
I dont know, but all the Tricks i see and hear are useless. It looks so easy when you/others doing it, but nothing works for me. I try to stay as low as possible. Just a few meter above the trees. And i always get killed by Radar Missiles, doesnt matter if they come from headon, behind, side or above... what can i do?
Trial and error buddy. The tricks work with ease for me, gotten me to top 40 on the leaderboards for air rb. Everytime you die go back to replay and see what you couldve done better/ did wrong. You may be flying too low or flying too high. If the missiles a direct hit you're flying to high, if it hits the ground and damages you then too low. Also you can see if its a IR missile or radar missile when you die. Im not perfect ive stayed low to avoid what i believed was a radar missile but was actually IR. Its all a learning process.
thanks for the guide small problem since the patch dropped i haven't gotten a single kill. and i have died every game, even using this method. when it comes to the mig23m i believe you should state that it is the exception to this playstyle because of how bad it is
Self accountability is important. Blaming a jet for your mistakes won’t get you kills. I have a video on the mig 23 MLA and I perform perfect with it using the same methods.
@@MrUniversTV one minor problem, the MLA is leagues better than the M and MF, the MLA has a better radar, a more powerful engine, 72 countermeasures compared to the M/MFs 12 countermeasures, along with R24s which outclass the R23s on the M and MF models in every way aside explosive mass and tnt equivalent. Comparing the M models to the ML models is illogical, and assuming that they perform identically is moronic.
They don't perform identically but that doesn't not make it your fault for playing bad. And i apologize, i read mig23m(L). Yes they don't perform identical but you need to find those weaknesses and work around them to the best of your ability's

the exception for rule 2 is in the mig23ml, when getting into dogfight i slow down to 800 kmh for best maneuverability
another thing against the pheonixs you can turn of your radar (if you dont need it) and avoid getting one fired at you in the first place
having your radar off doesnt stop the pheonix from tracking. or from being tracked.

I would recommend trying new play styles. You may be just to fast that not everyone is able to keep up with you. and i hope to make new videos soon

My tactic in the F-14B:
Stay high, stay fast, if I have a AiM-54 coming at me and I know it I’ll just notch and chaff that.
Stay out of fox 1 range especially against MiG 29s
Bring 2 phoenixes and shoot them off at 2 different targets from 20-30 miles away
Get lower and do some sparrow stuff have winders and guns ready for a dogfight,
And I constantly get 3 kill games from that (mostly from sparrows and winders)
And I run with 2 54Cs, 3 7Ms, and 3 SWs 45 mins of fuel, manual wing sweep, and a cool skin
Been trying this and its not working as well as 3 Aim9-L's with CM Pods and 5 Aim7-m's. I've got a video coming soon on that exact subject :)

Of course it does! its actually better if you stay low because more radar missile at the BR range cant even track with ground clutter :D

Flanking due to poor spotting system is a great way to stay unspotted, also stay away from the middle of the map as AI can spot you for the enemy team!

I dont know, but all the Tricks i see and hear are useless. It looks so easy when you/others doing it, but nothing works for me. I try to stay as low as possible. Just a few meter above the trees. And i always get killed by Radar Missiles, doesnt matter if they come from headon, behind, side or above... what can i do?
Trial and error buddy. The tricks work with ease for me, gotten me to top 40 on the leaderboards for air rb. Everytime you die go back to replay and see what you couldve done better/ did wrong. You may be flying too low or flying too high. If the missiles a direct hit you're flying to high, if it hits the ground and damages you then too low. Also you can see if its a IR missile or radar missile when you die. Im not perfect ive stayed low to avoid what i believed was a radar missile but was actually IR. Its all a learning process.

when it comes to the mig23m i believe you should state that it is the exception to this playstyle because of how bad it is
Self accountability is important. Blaming a jet for your mistakes won’t get you kills. I have a video on the mig 23 MLA and I perform perfect with it using the same methods.
@@MrUniversTV one minor problem, the MLA is leagues better than the M and MF, the MLA has a better radar, a more powerful engine, 72 countermeasures compared to the M/MFs 12 countermeasures, along with R24s which outclass the R23s on the M and MF models in every way aside explosive mass and tnt equivalent.
Comparing the M models to the ML models is illogical, and assuming that they perform identically is moronic.
They don't perform identically but that doesn't not make it your fault for playing bad. And i apologize, i read mig23m(L). Yes they don't perform identical but you need to find those weaknesses and work around them to the best of your ability's
