    Thank you! I'm amazed at the really good quality you achieved with this Canon PowerShot. I just got that same model from eBay a few weeks ago and have been putting it through its paces. None of your shots seemed blurry in any way with the camera, even when you weren't holding it perfectly still. I am impressed and even more happy that I made my purchase.

    Loved your video! Recently I purchased a Canon A520 still in the box with CDs, cable, manual, and it still has plastic protector on the LCD screen. $5 at a thrift store! I also have the S90 plus some other old cameras. Best of luck in your photography journey!

    I started collecting them a year ago when those two guys made a video with their Canon ixus. Since then I've collected something around 20 early 2000's digital cameras and they're a lot of fun. I found out that cameras from ten years ago are pretty much as good as today's phone cameras. I'd say my reason for collecting them (besides being a guy and having a collection of something) would be because I could never afford them when I was a kid in the early 2000's so I'm catching up on all the nice things I could never have.
    They're fun, and they're pretty good. Also it's a well known fact that shooting with a camera is never about the camera itself but about the photographer. You can make impressive pictures with anything that has a lens attached to it.

      100% agree. I do think gear generally doesn’t matter (yes for certain situations it does), but a good photograph can snap a good photo with just about anything.
      I’m the same too with collecting things 😂
      What’s your favourite one that you have so far?

      Hey, been searching for some models for my arsenal too. I have the Canon SD630 and Sony P200 which are great, but I’m still looking for some other models. What would you recommend from the ones you grabbed recently?

      While I can’t speak for janci….based on those models you have already… I would look at getting a Panasonic dmc-fx9bs and/or a fujifilm finepix f11. Both have same-ish MP count and have CCD sensors

    I found a Panasonic lumix FX10 from 2007 years ago. Didn't get to it to shoot it. But your video inspired my to do so tomorrow. It has a Leica lens. For years I wondered how good that lens is. I guess I will finaly find out. Thx for the inspiration.

      That’s awesome, glad I could inspire you to get out there. Panasonic cameras are no slouches. I had an older panny bridge camera that was good. The Leica glass always gives good results

    Crazy how these cameras are considered 'vintage' and 'retro' now. I kept my old Sony point-and-shoot in my closet for ten years, and it still works just fine. I did need to buy an extra battery and charger on Amazon, only ten bucks.
    Photos are fine, but the resolution is really lacking. Despite being "7.2 MP", the images appeared way too pixelated. Downscaling the jpegs by 45% and upscaling them back to their original res definitely made the images more appealing. The photos went from pixelated and noisy to soft and organic.

    The problem I have with "digicams" is when they're dead.....they generally stay dead. My casio zs5, my canon a640, only my Sonys are hanging in there. There is a camera repair guy near me that hopefully can work some voodoo on the Canon otherwise i'm probably going down the instax road.

    • @ToddDeSilva
      @ToddDeSilva  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hear you! I'm honestly surprised my Canon still works. It was touch and go there for a bit, but I figured out I needed better batteries in it. That is the crappy thing though, there's not much you can do if they kick the bucket. Upside they are still "relatively" cheap and can pick them up just about anywhere.
      Instax are pretty fun. My daughter has one....kind of eyeing one myself, to my wife's dismay hahaha.

    • @Kusuo_A
      @Kusuo_A 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’ve fixed loads of them, reason they will stay dead is because 95% of the time people don’t have the guts to take apart their camera and replace the broken part

    Cool video. I started in film circa 1970. Didn't go digital until 7 or 8 years ago. I do have a canon SD1200IS i got new in 2011 and recently picked up a Sony DSC P200 for 5 bucks at goodwill, works perfectly. Won't replace my big camera bodies but they are tons of fun to shoot.

    I have the Leica D-Lux 4 which I've heard is a clone of the Panasonic Lumix LX-3. I got it 4 years ago and I carry it with me every where. I'm also a film shooter and my goal is to find the film equivalent of something that I carry in my purse everyday.

      Nice. I’d love to have one of those paneica digi-cams…one will eventually make it to my collection. Both are nice.
      There’s a bunch of Leica film point and shoots ranging in prices. I believe generally the mini lux zoom is considered the best p&s Leica. Onfilmonly.com has a great article of the 14 point and shoot Leica film cameras that you can read to get a better idea.

    Nobody needs more than 8Mp. Read on circle of confusion.

    • @ToddDeSilva
      @ToddDeSilva  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most people who are shooting pics are just posting to IG and Facebook, nothing professional, and with the brutal compression that those platforms do, 8mp is generally more than enough.

    • @dtmateo
      @dtmateo 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it’s not even about where you post your photos. The human eye can only perceive so much. A 8x10 print at 300dpi viewed 12 inches away is sharp. That’s the definition of sharpness. Anything more than that is a waste of megapixels. 8x10 at 300dpi is only 7.2Mp.

    • @ToddDeSilva
      @ToddDeSilva  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dtmateo yep. The higher MP really only comes into play when you need to start cropping in on the image significantly. Not something you’d be doing with these types of cameras
