@@Chebva Funny enough, we have a guy fro the Northeast in camp right now with a Remington 7600 pump in 30-06 and he's doing great! Your 721will darn sure get the job done too!
@biggamehuntingadventures6533 Very happy to hear the 30-06 is capable in Africa. Maybe a new trend over there. Shure is cheaper to feed your rifle 30-06, than Rigby or N.E.
It was a pleasure hosting you on this hunt Adam! And you did great work with this video! I saw you joke with Kobus about using the 6.5 Creedmoor on that wildebeest in this video 😉The 30-06 is just about tailor made for the vast majority of Africsn game, especially when using a good bullet and with good shot placement like you had. We actually use a 30-06 as a client rifle for those who don’t want to bring their own rifle. Looking forward to seeing the next few videos!
Adam, didn't you know that all the cool young kids say the old 30-06 is an antique, ready for the museum? It can't kill anything. When I saw the title of this video, I was grinning. I have never been to Africa to hunt. I have done a ton a hunting, mainly as a younger man, all over the lower 48. Most of it WAS done with a 30-06. Throughout the decades I have upgraded scopes on the rifle. Pronghorn with a 125gr pill. Elk with a 165 or 180gr. Whitetails from the Southern border to the northern border. Mule deer, hogs, yep. Glad you had fun. When these guides in Africa are TELLING you they use 30-06, well, folks might want to listen. Wimpy cartridge, too old, not effective, should be retired, my ass. Who-Tee-Who!!!
Dude. I am going to say it again...the camera work on these videos is STUNNING. It was the same last year when you took your buffalo. Whatever you are doing here, I love it! It legit feels like an action movie. Keep up the great work WTW!!!!!
That’s awesome Adam. I’m glad you had a great time with good folks. With those animals you might have to build an extension on your house for all of the cool mounts. 😃🐃
Excellent video. You know you've reached the big time when you have sponsors. Savage, Remington ammunition (Vista) and Burris have to be pleased to have sponsored your trip because you did them proud using their equipment. The Savage impulse interests me because if I'm not mistaken the bolt handle can be placed on the bolt for left hand shooters, even though the ejection port stays the same. And, having the locking lugs release immediately after the shot intrigues me. Being a lefty I always look for firearms that can be used easily in a world made for righties.
Awesome video. I also booked through biggamehunting adventures and hunted with Kobus in 2022. Fantastic experience and want to go back ASAP. You should have proved to Kobus that the 6.5 would have been just fine for the entire hunt!!! (I can imagine his eyes rolling at the thought…) When are you going back for the buffalo???
Nice video Adam. Professional video. Very well done. I did kind of the same thing in 2003. I used a 338 WM Ruger boat paddle stock in 2003. Got a Blue & Black Wildebeast, one shot kills. Thx for sharing.
Adam - something to think about for your next hunt over there. Blue wildebeest, zebra, and cape buffalo hides are tough enough to make nice leather rifle cases out of. I'm using a taxidermist over there, only charging 200 bones for each of the buffalo hide gun cases I'm having them make. Very cool souvenirs, 1 each for my 2 sons and 1 for me. And you can still do the shoulder mount if you want. These guys do very good work, only 1300 for a full shoulder buffalo.
Awesome hunt! Those trackers, the guy carrying the sticks, are scary with their field craft. I learned quick the tracker was the hunter and my PH just got me set up for the hunt. If you e never seen one of them work, it’s magical. The human version of a blood hound.
If you work within the capabilities of a cartridge they do the job easily. Get out of the cartridges capability, then things go sideways. This is what I have found with most things in life. Ask anyone that has done much hunting. They all have stories about lost or wounded game causing long tracking. A 22 lr will kill if everything is perfect, but most people won't hunt polar bears with one. Alot of people say alot of things about cartridges they don't like just to build up cartridges they like. They put down the 6.5 CM but praise the 260 Rem. In most situations there is not enough difference to make a difference. If a cartridge can deliver a bullet to a target where you intend it to go, that's all any cartridge does. Then it's up to the bullet to do the job. If more people would concentrate more on being able to put a bullet where it needs to go than the size and shape of the cartridge, more game would taken with minimal streß on the animal.
For those interested, Adam isn't exaggerating. I brought my wife, booked 5 animals, added a cape buffalo and an extra zebra. Including air fare for 2 and gratuities for the week, still less expensive than Texas white tail, guided elk/mule deer in the Rockies, or guided moose in AK. And not by just a little bit. Sock away $200 - 300/month, you'll have the money for a nice hunt in 4 - 5 years. And once you go, you're going to come back home and figure out how to save more than $200/month so you don't have to wait another 4 years to go back.
If you don’t mind me asking, what animals were you able to take and how much did the entire trip cost you including air fair and tips? Are you getting it mounted there or in the United States?
@WHOTEEWHO we have had bullseye taxidermy do ours for our last 2 trips and he does a great job. He's in the limpopo area so maybe thats who is going to do yours.
Great shot!!!I appreciate you allowing us to experience the excitement of hunting in Africa vicariously...the Burris scope looks like a winner too...does Arken have something similar? I'd love to save the extra 25% if they do...
Thank you for an ethical kill. Shot placement is everything. It really bugs me when hunters shoot, animal runs off, and someone says "great shot." No it wasn't. The animal is hurting until it finally dies. One shot drop is ethical. Sorry, I'm off of my soapbox.
Me and my wife have a africa hunt trip to plan we just gotta come up with the dates. We lucked up and got a 10 day all inclusive trip besides plan tickets for $3800 and then we had a baby and now we have another due in november.
You Tube removed my post for sone reason and all it said was 30/06 is my favorite round. I need to purchase another rifle chambered in 30/06 because I sold my last one that was a Sears brand that was probably a Winchester manufactured rifle. It was an excellent rifle.

Just take the 257 weatherby for your buffalo hunt next time…
Go smoke some baboons
You must read the blog too! 257 was the recent email
Would the 6.5 hitting spine have been different?

The company I work for has accounts on the African continent, all the men from there I've met said 30-06 is sufficient for the plains game.
Yeah, but many of the gun writers from here will tell us you need a 300 Win. mag at the minimum to hunt African plains game.
That was as clean and ethical as it gets. Nicely done. Getting excited about small groups in preparation can lead to real success on a hunt.
Small groups is key!
