I’m a retired bureaucrat. Any lawyer will tell you the same thing. Do everything in writing, maintaining a copy for your records. Word of mouth carries little weight but a paper trail is irrefutable, plus it will protect you from any retribution. Draft a letter explaining the entire situation, chronologically with known or estimated dates and include who, what , when, where, and the response you got. Send the letter certified, return receipt requested, to your State Attorney General. Send a copy to your state representative, state Senator, and your two U.S. Senators since the ATF is involved. You’ll get some action and no one will dare retaliate. If they do, document it in writing. I’ll be happy to prepare this correspondence for you guys. Won’t cost you a dime.

Happened to me once. The Remington 810 was the only thing “logged” into inventory that I got back. The rest magically had no record of ever being in their hands. Thieves taking from thieves!!
Same thing HTM. Cops in Dover OH seized an unloaded revolver from my locked glove box during a traffic stop. Court ruled it unjustified. Spent a year getting the runaround. Hired a lawyer. Court ordered it returned. They stalled another 4mo. Lawyer got a Court order for the return or to take the officer in charge of evidence into custody. Bailiff brought him in w/ the Shift Lieutenant, both bitching loudly. They admitted under oath that that pistol had accidentally been included in a large lot of weapons taken during felony arrests that was sold to a local gun shop 2 months after they had taken it from me! The PD had sold it for $50!! Then the gun shop (owned by a retired Dover PD Ofc) then sold it back to the Dover PD Chief!!! The Judge hearing this ordered the Chief to pay for a new revolver. However at the station I found a check for the $50 mine had been sold for, and a quiet message to leave Dover right now and never come back....or I'd find myself constantly getting charged with everything in the books from then on. I'd already spent 3X what the pistol cost on the lawyer. Even he finally told me to cut my losses cuz that Chief had strong ties to every law enforcement agency in Tuscarawas & surrounding counties as well as the Ohio State Patrol. Not all Cops are corrupt, but 9 out of 10 are; and that's straight from a cop relative's mouth. His words: '90% of the guys he worked with would be behind bars if they weren't wearing a badge'. He ended up the PD Security Ofc at the city HS because the other cops wouldn't work with him because he reported everything he saw other cops doing. I know of a Marine who was offered a job by the ISP, 2 Sheriff's Depts, & several PDs.... until he told told the 1st interviewer that He would especially be watching out for corruption in anyone associated with the legal system. Within a week all job offers had been withdrawn. If that's not evidence of LEOs preemptively covering their asses, I don't know what is.
@@channelview8854 I have believed for a long time that all internal affairs should be scrapped and the FBI partially or fully repurposed to be an agency that investigates police misconduct and corruption.
You need to get the SBI involved. We had the same thing happen in our county and the SBI was called in and found out that there was a detective that took some of the guns. Don’t let them get away with it.
A friend had a pew confiscated by our dnr and when he finally was awarded it back the officer couldn’t find it after it was all said and done and he was ordered to return it they found out he had given it to his son and it was trashed
I had a similar experience. Once I was found not guilty on a bunch of manufactured charges the judge handed me a court order to give to Wilson county police here in Tennessee to return my gun immediately and they refused. It took 5 days and 4 more visits to the judge to force them to return my Glock and when they did, it was returned with federal ammo and when they took the Glock from me it had Remington ammo in it. My best guest is It took them 5 days to find whos gun safe my Glock was in and retrieve it and they stole my ammo which I think is a felony under federal law.
I had a friend who had something similar happen to him, not with the ammo part though. He had it returned with carbon and dirt on the slide and it was clean before they took it. Someone was trying to keep it 100%!
This why you need to contact Kash Patel. He's the New director of the FBI. Starting January 20, 2025. You should go visit him in person, I'm sure he'd be glad to talk to you about the corruption into those police departments.
@@rowdybroomstick6394 You think he's the only person in America that's has this problem. If he answered 1/4 of the same problem he wouldn't have time to do anything else.
This is a common law enforcement tactic. They keep them long enough in hopes you give up. Then they sell them to their friends. I'd bet some are at their houses already and the boss might be saying "Bring them back to the station. They're not giving up"
And ask the judge to make sure it comes out if responsible persons paycheck, namely head of evidence. Ask for the not being abke to sue to be not allowed and sue for it.
It’s will cost $$$$ big time lawyers courts over 25-75 k in guns The system set up where u never recover the weapons they just dump in the ocean cut into thirds and dumped
I Know the feeling ! I had a Ruger LC9s stolen and the thief was sentenced and the Investigating officer wouldnt answer my call , over a nine month period, so I went to the County District Attorney office , he called the police barracks and asked for the commanding officer in charge , and had it on speaker and asked if he knew anything about why the pistol wasnt being returned and said he didnt know anything about it , but would look into it , the D.A. said No I'll take care of it and said good bye , the D.A called the County Judge and got a Court Order sent to the police barricks to release the pistol , the very next day I was at a Republican Meeting setting with the D.A. and my cell phone rings its the investagating officer, so I walk in to the hall way and answer it , he says that the pistol will be released back to me , I tell the officer I'm in town for a meeting and can pickup after , he said he cant tonight , it would have to go through a Pick Check , I tell him I already own the pistol , He says thats the way it has to be and gives me a time to pick it up the next day , when I go , I ask for this officer and another officer brings it out in a evidence box and says write your name here sign here , I say you going to do a Pick Check , he says No you already own the pistol ! I even show him a tranfer papers of when I bought pistol with a serial # , he says I dont need to see that to give it back ! He says you Rightfully Own the Pistol ! I Hope Things Work Out for You ! But I Got a Bad Feeling , that Most of the Guns Disappeared ! After 2 1/2 Years ! Sorry for Your Lose ! I Believe, Your a Law Abidding Citizen, All Your Life ! But a Criminal has More Rights then the Victim !
As a former law enforcement officer I’m enraged you went through this. In our department we issued a 10.10 or receipts for the property taken. An attorney can work pro bono/ free if their firm allows . There is civil litigation in which the attorney gets a portion of the money won because of money loss to your business. God bless and the good Lord always makes it right in the end. Subscribed.
My parents were robbed 4 years ago. What was stolen included gold and silver coins, jewelry and personal items like that. Same thing that you're saying here happened to them with one more thing. A couple of years later after everything was done, my 74 year stepdad went to the police department and demanded the items be returned. He was taken into an interrogation room, told they no longer had the stolen items, and then he was assaulted from behind so severely that he had to have brain surgery to stop internal bleeding. Needless to say, nothing was returned and nothing will ever be done about any of it.
That’s a common problem. A lot of departments will hold stuff for long periods of time and then sell it off an auction and keep the money. Get a lawyer involved.
A buddy had to do this, but he did have a lawyer write the letter. Don't talk to LE, make a formal complaint to the relevant court. Split the cost of the letter with your buddy, it shouldn't be too bad.
It'd be cool to write one saying something like "if I don't get within X feet of this devi...I mean...rifle, if that battery dies before I enter the code, oh gawd, where is it now? Is there anyone within 200yards of it? Oh gawd, it might already be too late...". Then if they get it back for you but threaten legal action, just tell them you thought the rifle's haunted & needs to be spiritually cleansed. Luckily, "weird" still works. The case of the haunted Ruger 10/22...
A few years ago, a handgun was stolen from me on a hunting trip. I accidentally left it at my tent, thought I had put it inside my truck, and found it gone after we came back to camp. I notified the Sheriff's department and gave them all the info on the firearm, including serial number. Three years later I got a call from that Sheriff's office, letting me know that a guy was arrested with my firearm in his possession. They gave me the case number and the police station where my gun was. I contacted that police station and they verified that they were in possession of the firearm but could not release it until the perp went to trial. They gave me a trial date, but when I called after that day, the trial had been postponed. That happened several times. After a year, i finally called and was told that the trial was done and I could go retrieve my firearm. I was asked a few questions on the phone, so they could run a background check to make sure I was not a prohibited person. An hour later I got a call back that i was good to go to pickup my firearm. An hour after that, I had my gun in my possession. No fuzz. Other than the delays due to the court date being postponed, it was no issue. Gun was in perfect condition except the perp had removed the red dot sight. Had to buy a new red dot sight.
Good luck getting them back , here in Jersey I had a few of mine taken under an illegal search and seizure. I even have the paperwork from court proving this and all my bing bangs ended up leaving with different cops I found out... So good luck

Have your lawyer draft a letter demanding to see the firearms still in their custody. If they cant then file suit for 10 x the price of the firearms missing and alert the local news station😂😂
I used my firearm in a self defense situation “California”. The judge ordered them to be returned to me along with my bulletproof vest. Never happened This was 7 years ago. I’ve bought many firearms since, but it’s still on my mind😭😂🤣
Unfortunately I don't think you'll ever see those firearms again. I have a cousin and when he was in his 20s he was renting a room from an older lady in her house. Now this lady would sell marijuana on the side to make extra money and my cousin had no knowledge of this. My cousin was a black powder enthusiast and he owned several cap and ball revolvers. One day this lady's house gets raided and they arrest her for drug dealing. During the raid they confiscate all my cousin's cap and ball revolvers. Once all the drama settles down and he finds a new place to live, he goes to the police station to ask for his revolvers back. They tell him those guns were confiscated in a drug house and they need them for evidence. Year after year they kept giving my cousin excuse after excuse about how they can't give him his guns back. My cousin is in his early 40s now and the lady got out of jail more than decade ago, went back to school, and is now an addiction counselor. To this day my cousin still hasn't gotten those cap and ball revolvers back. All of this because he rented from some lady that happened to sell a little weed on the side.
I know a couple of retired cops who told me many stories of in-department thefts of seized material. No fear amongst officers as the legal system covers their backsides via endless layers of paperwork.
As a 26 year LEO, I can tell you in no uncertain terms that you NEVER want your firearms to fall into the hands of law enforcement for ANY reason if you can help it. The chances of you ever being able to jump through all the hoops required to get them back is slim. As far as advice, do all your communications in writing, and if your not getting anywhere, move up the food chain in rank, and keep moving up until you get to someone who can get things moving.
Hmmm, where? I want to avoid that place. We routinely have firearms returned from Law Enforcement here along the Emerald Coast of Florida. True, you do have to wait on the trial, and sentencing in order to have stolen property released, and that can take a while in some cases. In Domestic Violence cases, you may need a follow up order from the judge to confirm to Law Enforcement that the Injunction has expired or been dismissed if it is not clear on the Clerk of Court's records. The odd ones are pawned firearms and accessories, occasionally, and depending on the issues involved, you end up having to pay the pawn to get your item back and then hope the criminal is able to pay restitution.
I live in South Louisiana. We had a problem with the law and a early 70s. Late 60s, Robin motorcycles, furniture and other things. For a long time. Finally, somebody got mad and turned the man. Cops aint no better than criminals.
I feel for you and all the people in the same situation. Same thing happened to me here in the southern tip of Africa. Took 13 years to get my .300WM boomstick back from the police😡
OH - So I am not the only one... 46 years ago, the house was burgled. The, police got a complete list, including serial numbers. A year and a half later I received a notice that the guns were recovered and destroyed.
There it is guns get destroyed the cops have no idea weather u got paid by an insurance companies why that even matters ? That’s what the cops told me u never see them 35 k rifle pistol collection out the house ask me how I know quick y saws the safes Nice 95% rigs leopold vx3 like 10 of them they were all registered on ft hood. Ft hood are the only ones that knew what I had locked up in a safe broad daylight 9-3 and nobody saw shit
I feel your pain! I had a wreck in Nashville years ago and was hospitalized, I told the police I had several guns in the car and was told not to worry they would be safe. After released from the hospital I went to collect my guns, they only gave me my revolvers, telling me the semi-automatics had to be ballistic tested. A month later after many calls I was told I could pick the rest of my guns. Sure enough my High Priced Walther competition pistols were missing, after raising a stink, 30mins later they came back with my Smith and Wesson Victory and nothing else claiming that was it. A friend who was a retired cop and attorney intervened but it was obvious something dirty was going on. I decided it was cheaper to forget it rather pay attorney fees and risk retaliation. I don't believe in defunding the police but I have lost respect of law enforcement. I don't trust them and everytime I see a cop I get a bad taste in my mouth. I realize not all cops are bad but I trust them as much as a guy wearing a dark hoodie smoking a disgusting cig carry a brown paper bag with an unknown beverage in it. Fortunately as time has gone on I have been able to replace my stolen guns with better ones.
First make sure the guns get put into ncic federal data base as a stolen weapon, that way it can be sold (legally), and if randomly checked even if a LEO has it it would under the law be confiscated and hopefully returned to you. Second in some states guns are covered by insurance and do not need a separate Ryder on your insurance for coverage, I discovered that from my own home robbery in Texas, years ago. My neighbor died a couple of years ago and had no Will, no immediate relatives and was a collector of guns and ammo, after his body was removed from the residence a unmarked sheriff’s vehicle pulled up to the residence with a enclosed trailer with the words sheriff dept and two plainclothes individuals spent an hour loading up cased guns and crates of ammo and left. From what I later discovered that a out of state relative arrived to settle the state and no firearms or ammo were ever declared or transferred over……I am a former LEO, and have knowledge over the years of the others in law enforcement that have cherry picked things of value from similar situations. Very sad but that life unfortunately.
The Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution reads as follows: “Nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.”
Took me 2 years to get my 5 guns back from police and I had to "sell" them to my uncle who is a Sheriff and he got them back ..and it was unreal how these ppl don't want to return property that's not there's
I grew up about 20 miles outside Richmond, Va and about 40yrs ago a guy I knew from high school stopped by and we chatted for a while and I was talking about my car project and he asked me what kind of paint I need he could get it cheap and I asked how and he told me that he worked for Wells Fargo alarms and he would get someone to go by a store and throw a rock through the window and of course he would be called for the alarm and he would clean up on loot and when I asked him what about the police he said that they would do the same thing and load up their cruiser trunks.... those guns are probably in some "non-civilians" wink wink safe right now and are trying to figure how to get them back to the evidence room without being caught.
When I had some of my guns stolen, I had to go to the sherrif himself with a friend police officer and we took pictures of each gun with serial #'s for each written on sheets of paper. Then they used the pictures as evidence.
The same thing sorta happened to me. I wrote my governor, congressman, and senator and within 3 weeks I had my 3 firearms back. I didn't have as many firearms stolen like you but notify the three administrations I had to and watch how fast things start happening. Good luck brother.
happened in 2009, they did it twice to me until i went and argued with the sheriff he walked me to my car with the guns and that was it, happened to my brother and he waited 3 years, a cousin too, he waited 4 years but only because he didn't want to mess with it, i told him to call and said they can only say no. he got them the next day.
My dad had an ex-wife put a protection order against him to help her with the future custody battle and they didn’t investigate her claims at all but he had his firearms taken for a year and once he got them back they were all damaged and had rust. It’s wild that anyone can just claim something like that.
Get use to it brother, I hate to tell ya that. I had 7 rifles and a hand gun stolen back in the late 90s. When I lived in Detroit. I called for over a year and a half to see if any were recovered. Every time the answer was no. The insurance co paid paid off on the claim. The only one I wanted back was the 12 ga shotgun my dad bought me in 1970. The cops knew who broke in my home but told me they needed probable cause to get a search warrant. I just gave up calling.
Time to file a lawsuit. Sounds like that PD needs unvestigated and the officers involved. Id be starting with contacting my state rep, then what you explained in the video, id write up and send certified to AG office.
Similar thing happened to me about 20+ years ago. While driving through Albuquerque my truck was broken into and several handguns were taken. They caught the scumbags with my guns. I went back and forth with the PD there for over a year and never got my firearms back. So much for "protect and serve"
I used to work for an armored car company; one of my coworkers was involved in a defensive shooting (no one was hit) but ATF didn't return his pistol for over 2yrs

No charges filed, committee had to sign off on the self defense shooting. 6 months later the Lawyer called the detective repeatedly and got no response. My buddy called the detective repeatedly and got no response. What actually seemed to get the ball rolling was calling the "property clerk" in the "evidence room". He went to go look for the detective and started the paperwork.
A buddy had his stuff taken by the same organization and that was 3yrs ago. Never getting them back and I can almost guarantee they don't have them anymore.

I managed a gun store in the early nineties. One of 4 stores in Atlanta metro area. Had a guy who was coming in once a week and buying a pistol or revolver. Good customer right? Wrong! First off, he always seemed to want a specific gun and if that gun was in front of him he didn't even recognize it. Of course he passed the background check. Suspicious, I contacted the other stores and had them check their logged 4473 forms. Sure enough...he was doing the same thing at those stores and no telling how many other stores around the metro. Obviously he was trying to get around the multiple handgun selling forms we had to fill out and send the ATF in those days (maybe still required?). I contacted the ATF to report the possible straw purchasing going on. I was told they were watching the guy and that the guns were ending up along the east coast in areas like NYC. Asked why they hadn't arrested the guy, I was told they were after the big fish behind the operation. I was told that in the future I should proceed with the sale and then contact them. I worked there for another 6 or so months before taking a job with a major firearms distributor and every week that guy bought another gun. I have no idea if he or "the big fish" were ever busted, but I do know hundreds of guns from Georgia ended up in places like NYC and were used in crimes including murder. Fast forward to the job in distribution and a retail gun shop customer of ours in Louisiana had a similar thing happen. He also contacted ATF and was told basically the same thing I was and to proceed with the sale. About nine months later his shop was raided by the ATF, he was arrested and had his license yanked and was tried for knowingly allowing straw purchases to go through. In hindsight I suspect the "big fish" was likely also an employee of the ATF familiar with gun purchase rules and how to get around them. I could be wrong.........but often I think no one or governmental organization can be that inept unless it is a case of being "Only as dumb as you need to be".
Happened to an acquaintance of mine. Cops snagged his shotgun during a domestic dispute call. No charges filed, took a letter from a lawyer, and it was returned the next day.
@ not even a 2nd case its a simple property case. Lawyers dont care about silly politics they care about one of two things, money and/or justice. Cases of justice give them clout.
Not sure about Tennessee, but the lawyers in my small home town in Arkansas are very reluctant to "take on" the local police. The "good old boy" system is still alive and well in my neck of the woods.

But the cops impounded my truck and it had one of my guns 🔫 in a locked case in the back seat. It took me 3 year's to get it back and I never got the case back. the gun looked like it had been shot 2000 rounds and drug behind a truck down a dirt road for 50 miles when I got it back. When they took it I had only had it for 3 weeks it was new when i bought it and had only shot it 15 times.

@zakbrinkhoff324 ya I had some pictures and videos of the day before they took it. (The only time I shot it) and took some the day I got it back in the parking lot with in minutes of getting it back. But everyone that I talked to said it would cost me more for them to go thro the case than the 550 the gun cost new at the time.

It has been over 20 years since a similar incident happened to me. Most likely your property now resides in a local cop's safe or some ATF agents safe.
That is totally a bunch of crap. No reason for it at all. I had a guy steal a guitar of mine years back. I had the serial number and complete description. They caught the guy shortly and they never tried to recover my guitar. 🤬
i know the feeling. 5 years ago all of mine were stolen. the thieves were caught with them. I was told by the Sheriff they were using them to make cases on some dealers and would charge them and get the guns back to me after court. Never saw them.
Sorry Who Tee. Retired from LE. I agree with some patrons, everything you do should be in writing for a paper trail. Contact the State police, the attorney General and the presiding judge in writing. Request all reports from the agencies involved. Then contact your local media with a write up of what’s going on. The more you publicize this the more attention is drawn to it. These agencies don’t like the publicity!!!
This is getting more and more ridiculous as time goes by. Watch til the end for the entire story.

If the FBI had any mission other than get Trump, they should clean up messes like this.

You need to get the SBI involved. We had the same thing happen in our county and the SBI was called in and found out that there was a detective that took some of the guns. Don’t let them get away with it.

Are you a member of the NRA?

My parents were robbed 4 years ago. What was stolen included gold and silver coins, jewelry and personal items like that.
Same thing that you're saying here happened to them with one more thing. A couple of years later after everything was done, my 74 year stepdad went to the police department and demanded the items be returned. Needless to say, nothing was returned and nothing will ever be done about any of it.

You dont absolutely need a lawyer to write a letter to the judge and request your property be returned.
It worked for me, in Buffalo, NY...
How do you know the perp had removed the sight and not some other gun enthusiast that had access to the gun?

@@richardtroell6407 California. The gun has to be in your name, on the roster, and you have to pay a new DROS to get it back.

I was working in courthouse in Pennsylvania. Had to work in the gun evidence locker. The maintenance man said. He has to go cut them up all the time.
Call sheriff or state police and report them stolen ! But talk to Congress man too ! Mayor/town manager , Attorney General !

They probably sold them or added them to their own collections. It would be interesting if you found one for sale somewhere.

i know the feeling. 5 years ago all of mine were stolen. the thieves were caught with them. I was told by the Sheriff they were using them to make cases on some dealers and would charge them and get the guns back to me after court. Never saw them.
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
You need to get the politicians involved.
Same thing happened to my friend years ago, he never did get them back. Police finally admitted, they didn’t have them, couldn’t find them.
Publicity is key!
