For your Axis, get a bolt lift kit from Desh Industries, and a longer bolt handle and larger bolt knob from Glades Amory, it completely changes how the axis runs, I can open the bolt with one finger now.
My two favorite mom and pops gun shops got jacked up last year by AFT for only God knows! I now have to drive over an hour away just to visit a gun store! ATF is completely out of control!!
Our local (the best of area) retired now and nobody stepped up to keep it going. There are others but none like theirs. Getting tough out here, the ones that cater to my interests are an hour forty ride on the highway away. 😕
The old style mom and pop shops are going away and being replaced by the more modern corporate look shops. There's not a big income in running a small Gun Shop in between legal hassles and ATF most people just don't see enough potential Financial reward to go into the business for the significant startup investment. I believe ATF is accomplishing one of the items on the agenda my forcing out these small shops.
I have the Hog Hunter straight pull in 6.5 Creedmoor. It doesn't have bolt lugs like a normal bolt action. It has ball bearing, 6 I believe, that pop out of the bolt when the handle locks. They lock into detents in a barrel extension to lock the bolt in battery.
hey marine brotha , semper fi n ooohrah to ya , i was active 93' to 97' n a old cpl. here n a p.i. grad , you ? , nessage me or email me , we'll talk more , i am 2A friends with adam b.t.w. , thanks > tom !
Looks funky yet really cool at the same time, nice lines and sounds like a solid action. I was totally impressed with the Axis so I'm excited to see how it shoots.
For very good reason. The Accutrigger is just dull, boring consistent from rifle to rifle. All mine are set at 4 lbs, gives me just that little bit of resistance. From 17HMR to .308 is essentially the same rifle.
Looks good! I love the idea of the straight pull, but I have never had a chance to try one myself. Looking forward to seeing how it works for you, and if you recommend it after you have some trigger time with it. Best wishes to you and your family. ✌️🇺🇸
As a lefty shooter I did think about buying this rifle or the big game version. I handled one before but neither I nor the gun counter gun really knew how to run it properly. I have seen some discounted or discontinued some places
That’s awesome! My brother is left handed but, growing up, we had all right handed rifles and shotguns. He learned to shoot right handed and to this day, that’s the only thing he does right handed and is damn good at it!
I built a straight pull AR (not semiauto) for this year's deer hunting rig. With a red dot, mag, and sling it only weighs 4.0lbs. I love it so far. Hope to put some meat in the freezer with it.
I've been shooting Blaser rifles for a long time and Savage Impulse Predator models for almost three years with a lot of rounds put down range. Never worried about a thing. The 360 degree lock up is rated three times stronger than an over pressured cartridge.
Fully agree with @shoots1004 been shooting Blaser r93 in 270win 300wby and 416rem they are safe. And the straight pull makes it perfect for dangerous game like buffalo because it reloads insanely fast.
It's really no different than any other style rifle. It just has a camming mechanism that turns the bolt when you manipulate it. It's got good solid locking lugs for the bold when in battery.
I've two 110's with the accu-fit accu-stock accutrigger systems... I like em I looked at the impulse ...not ready to pull the trigger on one yet... I am intrigued by the straight pull concept thou
I love all your videos and comments as I've learned alot from you, thanks so much! I currently have my late sons axis that I am installing the m Carbo spring trigger kit.
I tried to cycle the savage straight pull at a local gun shop last year and it did not do well, even the shop employee had issues with it. Do love the 30.06. whotee have you done any reviews on the new Taurus bolt gun or the updated vortex viper scopes? Love your pod cast, keep slinging em.
As a left-handed person who shoots right-handed, I've never understood how Shooting right handed could possibly feel comfortable to a right-handed person. Having my strong hand on the forend has always felt natural to me. Please enlighten me, right-handed friends!
I can control my trigger finger and the rear of the rifle better with my dominant hand. My left hand only needs to hold the rifle. Running the action with my non-dominant hand also feels goofy.
My Brother says he may have been a 'converted' lefty ('50s grade school) but IMO his awkwardness behind the sights is from being left eye dominant & that could matter more than say his writing, passing, batting, or golfing as a righty.
Nice rifle ! I have never been able to handle one so far but feedbacks are good. Can't wait to see you testing it on target. Its locking system is the same than the Heym SR30 that was released in the middle of 90's to compete the famous Blaser R93. Straight pull action rifles are very fashion in Europe and the leader remains Blaser but more and more brands offer this system and especially in Europe. Nowadays for hunting rifles, we also find Chapuis, Rossler (the ancient Mauser M96), Heym, Haenel, Beretta, Lynx, Verney-Carron, Strasser, Merkel, Browning, Steel Action and the Savage of course. Keep up the good job Adam.
The Savage Impulse is amazing. I want one so bad... It's the first rifle I've been excited about since Savage first came out with the Accu triggers, which I also bought one of
The idea of a straight pull sounds nice. I never shot one, so I know nothing about them. I wonder how long it would take me to feel comfortable about the lock-up. How easy would it be to short-shuck, like the pump shotgun? I look forward to seeing you run it. Thanks.
The one unusual thing I immediately noticed about that rifle as soon as you removed from the box is that it shoots without a bolt. Remarkable technology. Now I will watch the rest of the video.
I bought this in the hog hunter model right when it and out sight unseen. Action is great. Rifle itself is not balanced well. Sent it to my gunsmith right away. Had the barrel cut to 16” and reprofiled. Now it’s usable. They need to sell accessory barrels.
I'm not all that about straight pull bolts, but I do like the other features where you can customize a bit. My luck with that thought, I'd be a "tweener" when it comes to fixed parts.....
Could you please do a video on how to use those locking turns and working the meal adjustments I never used one but I'm thinking about building a precision 22 rig for bench shooting and long range

There's a lot of cleverness in the action, but it doesn't mitigate the draw length of the bolt the way ze German designs do. Depending on the relief of the scope he puts on it, he'll most likely be lifting his head to cycle.
Trying to decide between the impulse or the 110 trail hunter with a krg bravo stock. Only thing drawing me towards the 110 there's no stock/chassis options for the impulse. Boyds makes them for the impulse that's it.

That's an awesome rifle. I forgot what other brand I've seen with a straight pull bolt, but that one was so expensive and was made overseas somewhere. I wonder what the Savage is selling for....
I’m curious on how many of the bullet slingers at the pawn shop were your previous guns? I’m guessing about 80% of their inventory! 👍. Another gun and round I would like you to review would be the .41 Great Lakes.

Darn it. Just picked up the Axis XP II yesterday with accu-trigger and factory Weaver scope. 6.5C, 22". And now you go and show me this thing I hadn't even heard a rumor about. I am curious why -06 tho. Bracketed dead center between 308 & 300WM, I wonder what folks still see in it. I get that it's one of maybe a handful of "American" tradition calibers. Just looked it up. Holy dang it! I looked at the Beretta straight pull, Made in Italy, two weeks ago. The Beretta was substantially less. The Axis I ordered yesterday is about 1/6 the cost after rebate. Guess I'll figure out with it whether I actually wanna do 6.5C before I drop a few weeks income on either of the straight pulls.
Wow, i wouldn't mind having a rifle like that. 👍 Didn't they used too have that kind of bolt in the military ? Nice. Even better that Savage is doing it.
It's great to see a product that upholds such high standards.

I cant wait to see how it performs.
I own an old Steyr Mannlicher M95 carbine in 8x56r, and to tell the truth I don't fully trust straight pull rifles.
When the impulse came out I wanted one but I'm in the same boat. I don't trust them, I don't want a bolt eye implant 😂

Yup, a guy brought in a very nice LH bolt, the shop was not eager to deal in a trade. They were offering nothing close to what a RH bolt would fetch.
