From starting a industrial band, then to making soundtracks, then to winning a Oscar...
You did a great job, Trent...
And Atticus.
And married a Playboy model too no less....
But let's not forget his biggest achievement- MAKING CHILDREN (HE'S a daddy. Literally now)
@@jaysharpESQHis wife just did shoots for Playboy, she's not a model. Rather she's an artist, just like Trent.
She, Trent, and Atticus Ross even made a seperate band (How to Destroy Angels)
Let's not forget Atticus. Did you ever see where he was in this band called exotic birds before nine inch nails? He played keyboards.
The Social Network soundtrack broke the mold of what soundtracks should be like. That is why its going to stay as an important milestone in cinema. It's absolutely brilliant in every way.
Let’s be honest, The Social Network should of won Best Director and Best Picture also!
It shouldn’t have beaten Hans Zimmerman Time so no
@@huey1153 As much as I love Hans Zimmer's Inception OST I should tell you that 'Time' wasn't entirely "original" for the film. He first used "it" in The Thin Red Line (Journey to the Line) so yes, Trent and Atticus should have won.
@@TotemDaim True..zimmer uses some of his old works now and then even in interstellar he used some music from his old works..he is a great musician and i love his music but Reznor deserved it here
Nolan for director
stupendisss na, Fincher should’ve won! Nolan’s great though!
I don't think David is being miserable, more like his mind is just blown. In one of Trent Reznor's interviews for this score, he said that David told him not to even worry or think about Oscar season. Then Trent and Atticus did the unthinkable and won an Oscar. David looks stunned when the camera cuts to him in the audience
Source?
now doesn't that make you feel better?
The pigs have won tonight.
And they can all sleep soundly
And everything is alright
yo nice patton PFP and FNM reference in ur username
@@robertromero8452 "Closer" beat starts
He's done everything. "Pretty Hate Machine" was synthpop, "Broken" was blistering metal, "Downward Spiral" is (arguably) one of the defining records of the Industrial genre, and "Fragile" is a hugely ambitious concept album that really has to be listened to as a whole - and now he's winning Oscars for film scores that are completely unlike any of that. The man is a genius and a legend.
An unconventional Best Score winner, but the most deserving. Reznor and Ross do a fantastic job with their aesthetic-building synths, and the phenomenal atmosphere their score creates. We rarely see scores like this win, but they absolutely deserved it!
They did not deserve it. I've listened to the soundtrack twice in the past 3 days and already forgot it. HTTYD has stuck with me and most others for years. HTTYD deserved the win
@@bevandleon Ngl that's easily the more iconic score imo
@@yoboinicossman You agree How to Train Your Dragon has the more iconic score? Social Network's score was mid, just saying. I know you made this comment a while ago but it was too wrong to go unhated
the score for social network is really forgettable. no one remembers what it is like. on the other hand, inception...
Trent & Atticus are modern day Mozarts. You guys have impacted my and so many others' lives beyond what I can write! Keep doing what you do!
They should've been nominated for Gone Girl
amen
And Girl with the dragon tattoo
yuuuuup
What the hell, I didn't even know they participated in it, that explains why I'm such a huge fan of Gone Girl's soundtrack lol
For "Technically Missing" alone.
Trent is beautiful
His wife is beautiful
Everything's beautiful

Trent Reznor now has more Oscars than Leonardo DiCaprio.
Thats actually really funny.
KombinoHun Oh yeah of course!
Epic!
LOL! Low blow
Mr. Veteran You Sir are a comic genius ! Laughing my ears off :))
He's not just a musician, he's also a masterful composer!
and a great friend and genius
Winner in my heart, John Powell. Winner in my heart.
He was ROBBED
It's weird seeing him not wearing black leather and fish nets.
I think it cleans up nice and in a tux though.
@L Yes, how'd you know?
This is the best film score I have ever heard, without a doubt. Possibly the most deserved win in the history of this category
[on winning an Academy Award] You think, "I'm probably not going to win, but if I do win, I'd better not sound like an idiot." The anxiety builds. Then you realize you haven't eaten in 12 hours. And the camera's on you, maybe, at all times. "I need to pick my nose, but I can't risk it." Then you hear your name in slow motion. "OK, hug my wife. Don't trip over the cord. Why am I taking steps two at a time? I'm going to slip, but I can't stop. Oh my God there's Nicole Kidman, she's nine feet tall. Is the mic on?" It's over in a millisecond and you're backstage with an Oscar in your hand." - Yup Reznor perfectly describe anxiety. Only ones with anxiety fully understand this. Million questions, million possible solutions, answers million things you must answer to yourself in only couple of seconds. Anxious overthinking.
Founder of the greatest industrial metal band, 15 times Grammy nominated (won 3 times) and an Oscar winner too, Trent's a living legend.
I love how Trent wants to give him a hand shake and Atticus just hugs him.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are now composing PIXAR Soul!
How tall is this Oscar? 9 Inches?
I see what you did there...
Nailed it!
I thought it was bigger than that. Terrible Lie!
@@kpobuibo genius
Why does Fincher always seem so uninterested whenever he's thanked?
+Steal The Reel what you want him to tap dance?
F dostoevsky Maybe a smile.
He's very shy
He was very expressive when Benjamin Button was nominated may be he just saw him later on TV and thought what the hell why am I smiling so much and just decided to sit there stone faced:)
I think he was just mind blown at the moment
I came to see this one because a while ago I saw The Social Network for the first time ever and my God it felt so awesome to even read the name Trent Reznor in the opening credits. Great film and well deserved award
One of the best scores to any movie ever!!!
It's called score, not just some random background music. TSN's score added an extra layer to the atmosphere of the film and it helped audiences grasp the emotion flows of the characters. Quite frankly, TSN's score was unbeatable.
"Trent you're a genius." Yep
"The social network" is a masterpiece
I was always in admiration that trent made a different career as he got older into an oscar winning scorer instead of one of those aging rock stars who still dresd like it's the 90s like marilyn Manson. He dresses like a grown up
Exactly. He also has matured in how he handles interviews, he's much more calm and laid back nowadays, while still being as well-spoken as he always was. He also manages his public image in a much more mature, professional and mysterious way nowadays.
I feel like you can just say "David Fincher" and people around you will start applauding. ( 1:05 )
He should have just said "I want to thank you like an animal."
i love how trent really doesn't give a shit about a grammy lol
Its weird that the Oscars actually recognized a good score and it actually won, thats pretty amazing to me considering its not exactly a very conventional traditional "john williams" type score. Now all they need to do is start recognizing nick cave and warren ellis and ESPECIALLY Jonny Greenwood who did the best two scores of the last 5 years for there will be blood and the master and got NOTHING.
AMEN
HTTYD still should’ve won.
How to Train Your Dragon should have won. Everyone forgets this soundtrack but not How To Train Yor Dragon's
My guy 11 years later and Johnny still hasnt won while doing the best work 😢
Trent and Atticus have to work on their handshake
probably they got it figured out by now, they've spent much time together
The music was simple, and some of our greatest writers have proved that's what counts, not being fancy or showing off your skill, but writing it true.
I think the score for HTTYD should have won. It's such a powerful piece of music on its own. Then, when paired with the film, takes you into this wonderful world.
I agree.
Totally agree, it’s the one that’s stuck with me after all these years
The Social Network has great music score. The Social Network is the third film to be electronic based music ever to win the award since Midnight Express and Slumdog Millionaire.
Looks like they will when again this year for *Mank* or *Soul*
Trent Reznor is a genius
Child....
1:08 David Fincher's daughter is gorgeous.
in case Atticus didn't mention enough: Trent Reznor is a genius :D
IMO this score remains one of the best, most innovative, most beautiful, most artistically visionary, and most GENIUS of all time. The movie deserved to win Best Picture + Best Director IMO, but Trent and Atticus without a doubt took home an award they deserved. Game changers, always. Love them
That score was beautiful i was head bobbing through out the entire film to the songs he made well deserved :)
This never gets old. :)
I think Trent has found his post-NIN niche in composing for films. I can't wait to see what he keeps coming up with in the next few years
Aww! This is my first time watching this. I remember hearing that they’d won years ago, but I didn’t think to look it up.
I love these two guys! They’re awesome! 💙😊
The way he said “I live you so much” about Mariqueen was so great and genuine
Come on, it was a fantastic year that year for musical scores. I can't remember the last time I thought all the scores nominated were this amazing. It is a terribly close call. What won it for me is the originality of it and how well it modifies the mood of this film in its own unique way. Well done and well deserved!
Trent Reznor, is one of the best musician in metal ! For someone to win an Oscar from this genre of music is fantastic !
jesus christ...what a long, long way this man has come. I remember when i first heard the downroad spiral, the sheer despair captured in this record, i remember so much destruction and chaos associated with his music. I'm glad he survived and outlasted his own music and lifestyle.
I do think it was good that the academy recognized their work. So often, music that is not mainstream pop is not recognized. I thought that was a big step forward for the academy. I was so happy to see them when they sent to have their awesome work recognized. Atticus was right when he said that Trent Reznor is a genius. Peter Murphy of Bauhaus is one of his greatest idols. In fact, they've done some work together. If you have never heard Peter Murphy's solo stuff, you don't know what you're missing. You can definitely hear the influence. Anyway, I agree, it was great that the academy recognized their work.
I really wanted John Powell but great job to the Social Network
i think a lot of people underrate subtle, unassuming film scores compared to big brash compositions. I personally prefer scores like that in the social network, in fact i'm quite a fan of Reznor's recent repertoire.
Daniel Elsegood
Exactly. Its not always about how long the dick is. It's sometimes just about the girth. You know what I'm saying?
Eddierangers1989 Yea, right!
Wait? What?
@@Eddierangers1989 okay... Thank you for... that.
@@daniel171095 This makes out like HTTYD was just loud exciting background music. Highly inaccurate. It was brilliantly composed, brought every tone, and actually contained musical storytelling.
One of the best soundtracks in any movie
He is deserved it so much ! What a composer. I want a collaboration with him and Danny Elfman !
Dave looks like the most miserable man on earth Lol
maybe because he was robbed an Oscar for the directing. man should have won.
Hoping at some point he’d rip out “SLAVE SCREAM!!”
Not so angry now, huh Mr Destroyer?
Soundtrack played the most influential part responsible for making The Social Network what it is....for example,In the Hall of the Mountain King playing during the rowing scene...amazing...David Fincher deserved an Oscar too...
My inner goth girl rejoices. He’s a genius
Yeah, yeah. Somebody always gets robbed at the Oscars. That wasn't the case here.
Can’t believe How to Train your Dragon lost, Powell was robbed of that Oscar!
And Inception
@@Hypagon That too, agreed, but Zimmer has earned Oscars elsewhere
@@Kriv-kj6lk Every Soundtrack nominee that year was better than The Social Network, I have no idea how they won. Powell definitely deserved it the most, but its ridiculous that none of the others won either.
People will say Hans Zimmer should've won for Inception, but i disagree
This score itself is a masterpiece, no disrespect to Zimmer, but the score of The social network is much more groundbreaking and chilling
Hans Zimmer should've won for Gladiator and The Dark Knight
You give me the Oscar
You give me control
With a complex, incisive screenplay by Aaron Sorkin and a brilliant cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake, the Social Network bears witness to the birth of an idea that rewove the fabric of society even as it unraveled the friendship of its creators.
1. The Social Network
2. Inception
3. How To Train Your Dragon
4. The King’s Speech
5. 127 Hours
Trent came a long way, i always knew he would eventually get recognized for the work he produces, the guy pretty much invented Industrial music, he always has been a true artist, one that has outlasted most artist over the years.his music always got better in different ways. hes always been original
Soul will win best score this year. Their second Oscar.
Love Trent, he's giving us even more to love. Now we get to hear his music while we watch our movies, and more soundtracks to buy with other great music. It definitely made Social Network what it was, added exactly the right feel to it. I may be biased being a HUGE NIN fan, but I can't wait to see what else he's going to compose for. He doesn't care about anything other than giving his listeners an experience through his music, truly an artist. Anyone who's been to a concert knows.
Ngl I wouldn’t have minded a tie win for How To Train Your Dragon and this.
Me neither
I've said it before and I'll say i again: Trent Reznor is a genius!
Can we all agree that there were some truly fantastic music and stop fighting?
Totally deserved Oscar, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross are awesome.
Atticus calling Trent a genius twice shows what kind of a friendship they have. Kinda jealous 😂😭
I knew Trent Reznor was going to win an Oscar for making a flim score, way back in 1997 !
The coolest, and for me, the greatest original score of this century.
John powell should of won but both these guys did incredible job as well.
The music in all of the nominated films was incredible that year
Reznor and Ross just nailed it that year. Their score for Social Network showed a different approach to film music and their music played a huge part in how the movie came off. Zimmer and Powell were kinda replacable if you think about it - their music was great stuff, but it wasn't music that, in terms of atmosphere, other composers wouldn't be able to deliver.
@PiCheZvara I have to respectfully disagree. For HTTYD, the atmosphere in Forbidden Friendship, Test Drive, and Romantic Flight shone more to me than Social Network. I watched Social Network first, but after watching HTTYD, I did not remember much of Social Network. That is not to put down the Social Network’s score though, but HTTYD’s music resonated more with me and the leitmotifs in the first movie carried on to the 2nd and 3rd which is one of the best examples of musical storytelling I have seen.
Yep. How To Train Your Dragon was snubbed.
Inception´s soundtrack is one of the best one of the history!
If you told 15 year old me that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross would win an Oscar, i would've questioned your sanity.
GOT A NEW OSC AND IT FEELS ALL RIGHT!!
+1
Guys, Best Score isn't about what sounds best by itself or had the most complex aspects (although In Motion is some amazing work). It's about What puts the proverbial cherry on top of the movie, and the Social Network did just that. Did it deserve to win? That's a matter of opinion. And I loved the King's Speech and Inception's scores, but you can't change it now can you? Either way, Trent and Atticus did a great job and brought a great movie to life.
Why has the announcement of the nominees been skipped here?? The legend of India, A. R. Rahman was nominated for "127 Hours". And also Oscar for Original Song in 2009, where A. R. Rahman and Gulzar won the Academy Award has not been uploaded!! This is, at least to me, sheer discrimination and prejudice! Disgusting...
It's supposed to be a short clip, not the full section, you insecure dumbass.
Atticus Ross looked like he crapped himself
Now it's 2019, and officially Nine Inch Nails won an Oscar.
man this was hard. I thought that inception should definitely win, but then I remembered how amazing the other nominees are. so I am very happy that this won :)
Trent Reznor is one of a few rock gods left! long life to Trent
Whenever Trent, Atticus and Fincher team up you know it's gonna be awesome. Can't wait for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
This was probably one of the VERY rare times at the Oscars were I honestly felt that this Oscar should have been shared by both Hans Zimmer AND Reznor & Ross!
Reznor in the academy
How this beat out Hans Zimmer for Inception AND John Powell for How to Train Your Dragon is absolutely bonkers.
Trent and Atticus are two genuine musical geniuses. PERIOD
Trent and Atticus deserved this win. Hans was their only real competition, many congrats, still, to the genius that is Trent Reznor.
Utterly Brilliant Soundtrack... inception was fanstastic.. but it sounds just like most other soundtracks... this definelty deserved the academy award...
As much as I love Nine Inch Nails, I really think Hans Zimmer should have won. The music he composed for "Inception" is truly incredible.
i remember yelling out YES! as loud as i could when i saw this on tv that night.
Seeing Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman right by Trent Reznor is definitely a eyebrow raiser.
It's fine if that's your opinion, everyone has different taste, but I think a winning score doesn't have to be a compilation of the best songs. A score should support a film, not overshadow it, what made this score great is the fact that it just enforces the overall vibe of the movie, plus it's a very different kind of score, and it's good that the academy chose one that changed things up a bit, rather than stick to a safe one, that's the only way the art will ever evolve and stay interesting
The music in the social network is very good!
Not as good as Interstellar and How to Train your Dragon
I've seen a shot of Christian Bale talking to Reznor back stage, we knew Bale wouldn't let us down!
Remember when people weren't completely immature every time something won an award at the Oscars? Those were the Golden Days...
shoul've been how to train your dragon
I was just watching the Social Network last night. Their music for the movie was pretty peppy! How to Train Your Dragon had beautiful music too. Also 8 years later, I’m still sad Nichole Kidman and Hugh Jackman didn’t come back to voice Mumble’s parents in Happy Feet Two!
Why doesn't Fincher smile at least a bit? His boys just won...
