😀 Welcome to Sailing Artha 😀
Hi there, my name is Nicole, and my single-handed journey began in 2022 on a Columbia 26. It now continues on my new boat, a 28’ Bristol Channel Cutter named Artha (the name translates to “that which allows one to pursue her dream.”) I’m on a giant adventure of seeing the world and leaving it a better place! Follow me as I experience all the hard and fun times of this lifestyle. Thanks for watching, subscribing, and commenting.

Neptune works in mysterious ways. Bristol's are such beautiful, ocean seaworthy vessels. I'm sure your very excited, you and the boat deserve it. The beginning of a new relationship, which is what having a boat is. Congratulation!
always wanted a Bristol Channel Cutter; never could afford it. You got lucky.
I don't have money but I have subscribed I try to like all your videos and watch them to the end and leave Chat wish you the best of luck🤠👍
Thank you!! I appreciate all of your support.
You've just landed a true world cruiser, pretty much a smaller sistership to the 36' Cape George Cutter that took Kirsten Neuschafer to first place on this years Golden Globe Race. Congratulation's I think you just may have found your round the world boat. Carry on and let the good times roll !!
That's amazing!!! So cool it's pretty much a smaller sistership to Kirsten's. She is such an inspiration and incredible person.
You already know how to clean outboard carburetors, so now you'll add changing fuel filters, bleeding injectors, valve adjustment/timing, acid boiling out heat exchangers, repacking & adjusting shaft stuffing boxes -- all the inboard diesel stuff. Since you're planning on going far and wide, pack on board LOTS of spares -- even popular diesel engines don't have the parts availability in remote places that small outboards do. I don't think it would be going too far to pack along a spare fuel pump, water pump, and alternator. Not to mention lots of engine zincs. Best of luck!
Yea! I’m so excited to start learning diesel mechanics. Today I learned how to change the impeller on the exact same engine but a different boat! I’m sure you can expect some future videos on this and I am excited for your input 🙂
I know Oriental well. Spent way too many hours at the Bean. I had a Mainship 350 at Oriental Marina for 8 years. After weathering many hurricanes in Oriental, it was totalled by Hurricane Florence. Think you may have just become my new favorite channel.
Thank you! I used to work at the Bean!! Just for a summer though and then I sailed away. You probably know Nora though!
@@SailingArtha I always annoyed Eric and Amron, founder of the Norma backwards drink....mmmmm. I really miss the carrot cake from M and M's. I'm sure we crossed paths at some point. Coolest guy in town, Pat at the provision company. Wild guess, are you related to Jim?
Thanks!
Thank you!
What awesome news!! very cool to hear more of your story. Now it makes sense how you have so much knowledge about sailing. No doubt your following will grow as you continue your adventures. Happy Birthday!!!
Thank you! I am so nervous about my following! I did not expect to get so many subscribers. Today I was worried because I felt like I would lose followers, but then I remembered why I started this: to document my journey and maybe be an inspiration or helpful to others. I'll keep striving towards that.
I enjoy the fun and brutal honesty of your videos. Keep up the good work!
Looks good, when you check the chain plates check the mast post underneath and whatever its sitting on, they go on those boats. Exactly the boat I need probably. I study a lot, not had a boat before.
Thank you! So yea the reason the rigging is sagging is because the mast is keel stepped and has sunk into its wooden block. That’s why I’ll be restepping the mast
Best of luck with that, its a big job
Yea! Fortunately though it's pretty common on older boats for the block to need to be replaced, and, lots of people have to take their mast(s) down when they do the great loop. The BBC is a cutter so it'll be simpler than a ketch rig. Plus, I need to do some re-wiring (I'd rather not deal with what Lisa Blair dealt with on her Antarctica circumnavigation when her mast came down!), and I need to re-run the halyards, replace some lights, and I'd like to restep the mast a little differently. If I ever did get de-masted, I'd like to make sure the base is bolted down so it doesn't turn into a blender inside my boat. It'll be a big job (actually, lots of big jobs!), but so worth it because of how much easier it will be to do these other projects and make the boat safer overall. I'm looking at it as a blessing in disguise and will definitely film the process so y'all can see.
Excellent Nicole, I’m hooked! You have bought the best and safest boat for sailing around the world.
Your credentials are impressive and you no doubt have the skills and knowledge to complete a circumnavigation. I recently sold my sailboat so will enjoy your adventures as an armchair sailor, sadly. Love the Bristol Channel cutter and the whole history that comes with it. Looking forward to supporting your quest! BTW Happy Birthday for next week……😊
They say the happiest days of your life are when you buy a boat and sell a boat. I hope at least this was the case for you. Glad to have you watching and thanks for your support.
Good luck on this new chapter of your life, living your story 🏴☠️
Thanks :)
Congrats on the new boat and Happy Birthday early
Thx for sharing all the info but also the beautiful and less charming sides of solo sailing. I'm a solo sailor myself and can relate with everything - except I'm obsessed by tidiness onboard! 😅. Keep up, you're an inspiration!
haha!! yes, it's taken me forever to move onto this new boat because I'm making tidiness a priority, now that I have the space :) Thanks for watching. I hope to see you out there!!
Awesome yacht for you, love that others see in you what I do and happy to be able to help you achieve your goals. Thanks for sharing. wishing you a very happy birthday. Fair winds, Elaine 😎⛵️
Now THAT will take you all the way around the world. Had a friend fully restore hers. It was a piece of art when they were done. Sold it for 185k. They are absolutely solid boats.
Happy Birthday! Thanks for the update, and congratulations on your new Artha.
Its a different world today. 30 years ago i worked 2 jobs and spent every weekend and holiday restoring an old wood boat, for 2 years. The taste of freedom and feeling of accomplishment was great when I finally set sail over the horizon. These days its internet pan-handling in exchange for (literally) baring yourself on video. It all seems a bit peep-show. I wish you every success young lady, but please, do not sell your soul to the youtube algorithm.
Thank you. This originally started out as a way to consolidate my videos and get them off my phone and share with friends and family so I could have enough storage to continue to record my journey. I'm so aware that it's a one-way ticket from here. I'll keep it raw because that's all I have the energy to do. Besides... I don't really know much about algorithms. I'm doing it for me so I can look back, and if I can be an inspiration to others, I'll take it.
A bargain on the high seas.. Looks like a proper home.
Happy birthday and congratulations on the new boat. Bristol Channel Cutters are great boats. Look after her and she will look after you. Good luck and fair winds.
Wow, what an explosion of information about your sailing progression from early youth to present! Very cool, and hoping your dreams of a solo circumnavigation come true. Will be watching your journey.
Artha is actually the first goal of life in sanskrit , meaning : "what is necessary in order to survive".
And i agree, sailing is a primary necessity
Thank you! okay, that's a better definition than what I learned it as. I agree 100%
Congratulations, thats a nice upgrade. Looking forward to seeing your new adventures.
OK FYI The sound on this needs work. I could not understand some of the video .(Volume issues) & Slow down when recording. ( slow & steady) so we can see some of the stuff!!! I love seeing the boat details. Other than that you have captivated me & keep up with what you are doing!!! Also thank you for sharing your life adventures
Oh no! Okay. Good to know. I will try to pay better attention to this in the future. Thanks for watching!
The world is youres on this beauty. Nice boat.
I know.. I’m still in shock about that. I do feel like I can finally see the world.
Hi Nicole, i found your channel recently, love your output. We bought our little sailboat last year and cruise a bit in the UK. Im inspired by young people like you, even if im too old to take part myself, I can still appreciate your courage and skill. Im looking forward to following your progress especially on this boat. best wishes.
Thanks for following along. I can't wait to start releasing my boat project videos. There are A LOT and I'm learning so much.
I hope to see you out there, maybe when I'm over in the UK!
So...great story, hope you had a great birthday...this boat is such an awesome blue water boat. I have looked at them in detail over the years, just beautiful, incredibly well made little yachts! Good luck, will enjoy following your adventures!!
rooting for you ! youve got no shortage of courage !
How amazing that's so good and what a lovely boat , there is some very nice people in this world x
Another fun video to follow. Hope this boat works out well for you. You are in our thoughts...
Thank you! Me too. So far so good. I'm a few months into boat projects. Can't wait to share the updates in the coming weeks.
Oh wow. Thats a awesome deal on a top of the line blue water boat. Youre going to go far on this beauty.
BCC! Now you are rocking girl!!!!
I know! I’m still in shock.. how did I land this boat?! She’s a lot of work but so worth it. I’m surprised at how quickly the projects are moving along. It won’t be long before I’m back out there. Thanks for watching
That’s literally my dream boat. Too late for me, but I sincerely hope you make it work out. Fair winds and safe seas for you.
Thank you! I am so so so excited about it. It's kinda my dream boat, too. Crazy how it all worked out. I'll keep the content coming.
Happy birthday! And congratulations with your beautiful new boat. Looking forward to your adventures.
Greetings from The Netherlands
Hello there! Love the narrative 👌 looks like luberon DR. Stayed there a few times. Be very careful. . I m excited to watch your journey! I am a sailor for the last 17 years. I recognize places in the Bahamas you were at also. Good luck take good care ❤
Hey! Thanks. And yes, you're correct about the location haha I'll keep the content coming! You might even recognize some of the names of people I'm working with. Appreciate your support :) hope to see you out here some day!
Congrat on you new boat. Sounds like a beauty. Stay safe and sail fast
It will work and be fine in the end..it will be..👍🙏😉
Very good choice. BCC is a true bluewater sailboat.
Girl, you have some incredibly serious skills and qualifications. I'm jealous!!! :)
Great! Congratulations!!
Hi Nicole, First, Happy Birthday honey! I have followed all your videos and subbed because I like your style, just a real person with no putting on airs, my kind of people.
Congrats on your new boat, a real beauty for sure. I have owned a few sail boats but life got in the way so my dream of sailing off to the horizon never came to pass. My two loves in life are flying and sailing although I'm 90 now and am not physically able to do either now. That's alright, I have my memories and will sail with you and some others here on YT from my easy chair. Wind Hippie and Sam Holmes are two of my favorites, and now you. 😘
Thank you for the birthday wish! Ah, so nice to hear a little about your story. It's an honor to be up on your list then. Wind Hippie and Sam Holmes are two of my favorites, too. I'll keep the content coming. Appreciate your support :)
I also live in north Carolina near Charlotte. Great video that you have shared and enjoy the yacht of your dreams it's a great one.
A BCC for $25k?!?! Great score! Rooting for you.
I love your channel. Its so chilled out and easy to watchl. You're living my dream.
thank you for tagging along!
Congratulations! Happy birthday!!!
Congratulations on the boat! Those Bristol Channel Cutters look so beautiful, and sturdy. I've been restoring a Contest 30 that I got for 1$. It was in very poor condition and still needs a lot of work but she's sailing now! It has a Yanmar 3GM in it too. The engine has been good to me and I like the design of the thing. I had to replace the engine mounts as well. I used Ellebogen brand replacements, they shipped nice and quick and were a lot cheaper than the Yanmar ones. They look identical. I hoisted the engine up with a couple 2x4s across the companionway hatch.
Thanks for sharing your history, now not so worried about your abilities.. I owned a Columbia 26 exactly like Arta and it was a fun boat for Puget Sound. Best Wishes on your refit
Sweat little yacht Nicole great seaworthy specs I’m up near their yard in Washington dreaming of a Cape George 36, current refitting a Cal 30 I also bought this boat due to its seaworthy specs , really excited to follow your journey.
Dave the MMP from 🇨🇦 maybe I’ll see you in the Bahamas 😊
Congratulations! That is a really great boat for a circumnavigation. Really looking forward to following your adventures.
Het ziet er keurig uit bij je. Veel vaarplezier🎉🎉
Thanks
Congratulations, what a sturdy, capable boat, I’m looking forward to following your adventures!
Nice hearing that you considered a Cape Dory to sail around. I have owned and restored three. Fantastic boats and very capable. All the best. Cheers.
Awesome. Yea I love those boats. They're such classics and so beautiful. Nice to hear you've restored some and kept them alive.
Stumbled onto your channel this past weekend and watched a handful of videos while wondering what was your background as you seemed to have a quiet confidence (though the channel is still really new)…. This video helps paint the picture and set the stage for what you’re really about and certainly what you’re capable of. And by the way….. did you say Merit 25? That’s a blast from the past…,
Yes, a Merit 25 haha it was the first keel boat I ever solo sailed and I think I was 15 at the time? It took me YEARS to start a youtube as I really didn't think I'd find a niche. But people like WindHippie really inspired me and showed me that I could still be myself, and that matters a lot to me. Thanks for watching.
That is a very solid boat. Good luck.
Thanks, I'll keep you posted on the developments :)
Awwwwww, Love ya. AMAZING story. I live in NYC and LOVE IT!
I LOVED being in NYC while I was there! And then I was ready to leave and go sailing haha thanks for watching/commenting.
Awesome girl.... watched this boat (for sale) Fair Winds
I worked for a Cape Dory dealer/charter company in Ft. Myers Beach for years..they are great boats. I have in my shop a 1966 #75 Allied seawind 30, named Vie de Paix, maybe next year I will see you sailing
I love the seawinds. Such beautiful and very good blue-water boats. See ya out there and thanks for your support!
BCC, moving on up in the world.. and the price!
Nothing stopping you now, girl!
Happy days.
I hope that you have a life full of wonderful adventures, and safe travels. You are truly an inspiration. I have too dreamed of sailing seas. But life got in the way LOL Fair winds and following seas
thank you. I'll keep the content coming. I appreciate your support. Hope you have a good day :)
I love those cosy side bunks. Could get a very good kip in one of them!
Congratulations!!!
Congrats..Godspeed!
That's what I'm doing to my boat now working on it get it shipshape hoping by next year I'll have it in the in the water
Sweet! You’ll definitely need a wind vane auto pilot if it doesn’t have one
Yes! it's super neat because the rudder is transom hung and already has a trim tab. Because of the boomkin I can easily install the rest of the windvane on the backstay. I'll be sure to post a video of this when I do it! Thanks for watching :D
I just have three words to say about that Wonderful ! Wonderful ! Wonderful ! 😀💪👍
Congratulations! Bristol Channel Cutter is a great boat. She’ll serve you well. Looking forward to following your future adventures.
