Ok, so I just came from Dan's video about your refit of your new boat and I immediately thought this seems like a channel I need to watch - especially after you said WindHippie was one of your inspirations. And now I've started from the beginning (because I'm autistic and can't just start from the new stuff) and seeing and hearing how you just dealt with the boom popping out so nonchalantly and perfectly... *chef's kiss* I like you already. I think I'm gonna stay. 💚
Fantastic adventure. I've watched a few of your vids now and so impressed with your story I've come back to the beginning to watch them all. Good luck to you and please keep the videos coming your inspiration is amazing.
You kept your cool and came up with a plan double quick, well done! I get the freedom thing, if I could sail the Bahamas I would be dressed just the same but it is much colder around here. As it is, sailing is something I've always wanted to try but never did.
@@SailingArtha Thank you! I like what you do and you’re doing it well. I replied to one of your other videos I think from my other youtube account because you broke a lot of hearts. Please stop talking about death and waiting for it. You are a smart gorgeous girl and your whole life is ahead of you. All that pain you feel now will subside. It takes work of course and you’re doing it now by filming. Im a fan and will continue to watch your vids. Hang in there and take it from someone who has experienced an untypical life full of pain ...you will be fine just keep on what you’re doing! We love you
It's interesting, I've been sailing for well over 40 years and I know other Sailors that have been sailing almost as long as I have and I'm always surprised that 90% of them don't have a clue what a Cunningham is. I'm very impressed that you do
Thanks! I know little sailing terms like that from dinghy sailing and racing when I was a child. My dad taught me those terms. It’s nice to be able to pull out vocab like that!
This was a good one, l like the day to day workings, fixing problems, I sail a Catalina 22, inland only but go out for three days at a time. Single hand, love it, PS, is the yellow strap what you clip into when it gets rough? That end was the real bay of pigs, huh! They we're hilarious.
Hey! Thanks for watching. Catalina 22 is a fun little boat! Especially single handing. And yea the yellow strap is my jackline. I have it down the center because my boat is so small that it makes the most sense. And yep, those were the OG pigs from Big Major! They were so cute
No it was a preventer pin, kinda what holds the slugs from falling down, but the opposite direction. I had forgotten that the pin was a temporary fix and it finally busted after a year 😅
Hey, nice boat! I love it, it makes mine look organised :-) But you are sailing and I sit at home typing away. So you win. Allow me a small editing tip: if a scene is to long to show it in full, don't speed it up, just cut it out. Cheers!
I’ve been on a boat since I was an infant. Spent 4 years cruising from rum and conception to Maine from age 4-8. Raced up through college, taught sailing, have my capts license. Sailed on a Cheoy Lee 30 for a season without a working motor.. I think I might have taken and passed all the ASA except the catamaran one but I don’t remember
@@SailingArtha wow! But still... You're a natural 😉 Im mainly a small dinghy, laser, sailor. Primarily of the coast of western Greece. But nearing retirement and plan to do the whole liveaboard thing, just like you... Planning to get a 50 footer, so if you ever need a job crewing... 😁
Use the downhaul on the boom like you did, the rivited aluminum strap won't be strong enough to hold the gooseck down in a blow. Also if you can rig a boom vang you can control your sailshape better.
Okay. I get a lot of weather helm in anything more than 12 knots if I don’t reef the main. You think the vang should help with that in any point of sail below a close reach? I had one rigged temporarily but didn’t have strong enough line. I do now. I’ll put a video together of the vang.
A balanced rig will reduce weather helm. If she's rounding up, then tighten the jib sheet a little and ease the main sheet until the helm is more neutral. A Tighter vang actually powers up the main by reduced twist in the leech. This can increase weather helm. The firmer leech helps pointing ability upwind and helps with control reaching and running in breeze. control Sailing under main only = weather helm. Cant be avoided. The keel is the pivot point. Jib only is lee helm galore, main only weather helm. Both sails pulling = balanced helm.
The main halyard. Either mount a small winch on the cabintop aft of the clutch bank (or ahead of a standard cleat)...run the halyard over to a cockpit genoa sheet winch...or use the winch and cleat on the mast. I'd opt for just using the mast winch and cleat and not use the clutch on the cabintop until you mount a winch there.
@@LongRun6.4 okay yea that’s what I’ve been doing, keeping the jib a bit tighter and the main loser or putting in a mainsail reef. I think I’m just used to sailing ketches.. they balance so much better in my opinion
The way you handled the Boom incident with a laugh and immediate action...you've got "Blue Water Solo Sailor" written all over you...good on ya !!

Awh, thanks for this. I’m glad to have you tuning into my adventure.
I spent 4 months bumming around Fla on a Macgregor 25 with 3 chickens. Small boats are underrated
Damn! First time viewing your channel, kinda binged last night. Fabulous shit! Love your can do attitude and self reliance. I'm hooked 👍❤️
Thank you!

Thanks for watching. Yea I'm sure in the cold I'll be all bundled up. I hope you get the chance to go sailing. It's beautiful
Your naked 😍 were at
Great video
Fun video…good recovery on the boom! I had no luck with my cedar plug….dressed it up with orange sailcloth, still no luck! Thanks, Andrew RnC
The blue color of that water at 12:40 is otherworldly.
Thank you :D
Awesome video, I’m definitely your fan from now on
Just found your channel and gave a 👍 and subscribed !

You live exactly like I do, only on opposite sides of the planet.
… and I’m not a TH-camr.
Now I wanna purchase a sailboat and cruise the Caribbean after my cabin is complete. ⛵️
Oh wow the boom popped right out of the track! Nice calm quick fix like a pro! Was there a downhaul that broke?

Cool. What Watermakers do you have ?
I have a little wonder. It makes 4gph and draws about 15 amps!
I've just fallen in love.
nice recovery in the moment with the boom popping off like that. new to your channel, keep the videos coming.
Yes excellent video! Keep em comin'!

Thank you for the tip! I’ve incorporated it in my videos now
What kind of a water maker do you have?
Little wonder! 4gph at 15 amps, DC
Amazing!
did good with that temporary boom fix. no instagram to follow along? amazon wishlist?
Thank you! My IG is sailingarta. I don’t have an Amazon wishlist - it’s hard to get items shipped to where I’m at since I’m always on the move
assisted living!! :)
did you do any of the standard courses..? or are you just a natural sailor..?

What kind of boat do you have? It doesn't look much bigger than my Catalina 25. Love the videos!
Thank you! I have a 1968 Columbia 26. Tiny but mighty! Catalina’s are great boats too.
Awesome job staying cool under pressure . Who needs fish when there's fresh pork😂😂. Beautiful place enjoy😊
Haha 😂 right?! Thanks. I kinda like little exciting moments like that
Just watch your videos how do you cope in a small boat? Take care x
I like small spaces. Feels cozy and easier to handle when there’s less to handle. Some people feel better in bigger spaces. Personal preference.
