Ik this is hella late but even in an “Axe kit” the top players use axe for some crits and disable then they pull out the sword. Undeniable evidence.

Small thing for survival mode players who PVP and/or PVE- when enchanting swords naturally get Sharpness while Axes dont, so you have to add it afterwards, although don’t understimate efficiency on an axe because it stuns shields better. I like both weapons:
1. Axes are better early game unless you find a golden sword with fire aspect or sharpness in a chest from a ruined portal. I use stone axes all the time while speedrunning, and often will only want a sword if its diamond or netherite (unless I get a good enchanted gold/iron sword in a chest)
2. Survival world though (long term) I use sword 95% of the time, which is super op combined with good enchants, decent armor, and a shield, where I can quickly go back and forth from hitting and shielding which devastates most mobs, although a few can be trickier.
3. Axes are less op when fighting harder enemies as they are still slower than swords and have few benefits even though it disables shields. I find that with a sword I force opponents to heal more often/burn up food reserves in PvP, or keeps enemies away or kills faster (think Creepers where a few sword hits can be got to kill them whereas with an axe you wait longer).
4. I say it also depends on the ranged weapon you use. If your opponent uses a crossbow use a bow because you can shoot faster and with flame/infinity/power you can bombard them with high power arrows whereas they might get a few shots (unless they have fireworks/piercing with harming arrows that deal a LOT of damage)
5. Shields or totems? Counter to some people’s opinions I think shields are better earlier because you can die faster- its easier to pop a totem if they take more damage through basic weapons/mobs, and shields block creeper/tnt explosions and arrows which often kill early game players. Later game I think it depends on the opponents. If PVP, then go with a totem because you would likely have gapples and pots, and good enchants so you can tank the damage taken while moving quickly and getting in many hits with a sword (or trident although highly impractical especially on Java). If PVE I think shields because there are more enemies on average, so they can crowd you easier. Im not really sure though as I can see both arguments.
see what axe players miss here, is the gap from a stone sword to a stone axe is massive in fairness, 5dmg per hit, but in the endgame, s5 neth sword vs s5 neth axe, with str 2, that's 17dmg/hit vs 19dmg/hit, which really seems like nothing, especially when a sword swings about twice as fast as an axe, making the dps difference massive up there

I do like sword pvp, but I also think that axes are good, I'm not sure what side I should be on yet.
I think axe and sword are mostly about equal is usefulness, it really depends on what you're good at using, sure you put axe and sword in a 1v1 sword is gonna win most of the time, but that doesn't prove that swords are so much better, there are people who play axe and people who play sword, comparing their skillset is impossible if they've is playing practically two different games. It's like comparing a chess player to a cod player, it just doesn't work

Because axes disable shields. Hold it for too long and you give your enemy a chance to disable it. Vanilla Bedrock pvp is broken because they added an item balanced for 1.9 yet still kept the 1.8 system.

it was kind of impossible to win with a wood sword against a netherite axe because a netherite axe actually has more DPS than a wood sword (normal hits at least idk about crit spamming)

In sheild less pvp when they pull out a sword I use an axe, when they know sword is not working with a sword they pull out an axe, at that time i pull out a sword and w tap them 🐶
What I started doing is on the first hit of any engagement, use the axe for that burst of dmg then use a sword for the rest. Also saline friend me on discord I want to discuss something about the anarchy server

I like how people think that the axe is better, despite the fact that almost every single PVP professional on 1.9 uses a sword, the only exception I can think of is the person who trained Dream, and of course, dream himself, But even dream has said that swords can be really OP in close quarters in his second hitman video.
You could honestly use the whole hit-and-run technique with the sword, due to the fact that you can get multiple hits within the time span of the axe having to recharge, so they take a ton of KB, this gives you time to run away and be out of distance before repeating the process, you can even land a few bow shots or crossbow shots in order to knock them back a bit more.

I'd rather use axe in shield kits, but if it includes a sword, i use the axe to disable the shield and then sword crit combo the enemy
The best duel is this combo that makes swords and axe count each other. Lava, sword, and 4 totems, vs Shield, axe and kB stick

What packs do you use/raccomend for 1.9+ PvP? I've switched from bedrock to java and I wanted to learn 1.9 PvP, and even at my level (very bad/inconceivably bad) I could feel when using swords against axe that even if I wasn't comboing the opponent was playing worse due to the pressure, this vid was what I was looking for! Keep up the great work!
the only packs i use are vanilla tweaks and a shortened fire texture pack for pot and crystal, using sword takes a lot of aim and practice i recommend starting out learning w taps(for combos), then crit spam. and thank you!!

I think the player thing is honestly just skill it’s clear you’re just better than some of these people. I don’t necessarily like axe more than sword or vice verca but it depends on how you look at it. Spamming sword does little damage in modern pvp and spammers rely on combos to win while axe pvpers rely on longer attacks to focus more damage, however making them more vulnerable to getting combos. I think you should play both sides of the story.

How are axes better? In any scenario other than in an early game fights or in the axe and shield kit swords are always better. Capade would get destroyed ife he uses an axe.
it depends on the situation lets say a netherite axe has sharpness 5 the axe is better but if the sword has sharpness 5 and the axe does not than the sword is beter but i am more of an axe pvper
Don't make up dumb situations. The sword is generally better any player would put sharpness 5 on their sword because it's just faster unless you are a Dream Stan. I respect that you are an Axe pvper but Swords are just better.
Also swords have fire aspect meaning that armor durability will go down

The truth is, sword is like washing your hands. Crappy hand sanitizer is worst than washing hands with soap ( assuming hot water and good soap ) but it’s not better than good hand sanitizer. So for the regular player the sword is better because with the axe people will miss, and the cost will be a lot more than of the sword because the sword is almost 1/2 axes damage in the material department. ( wooden sword 4, wooden axe 7. So those double hits deal a little more. but for a better player, axe is better because they know movement, and how to hit then use whatever their strategy is.
My opinion: Swords are hard to use if the opponent has a axe AND a shield. However, a sword is less punishable if you miss because the sword has lower cooldown. The axe on the other hand has a longer cooldown, causing you to take more damage from the enemy if you miss. It is recommended to use an axe if you have low armor and the other person is using a shield. If you have good armor like diamond or netherite, the chances of you winning with a sword will probably be higher.
If the opponent doesn't know what they're doing with a sword and only uses it because it has more dps, most likely they will lose because if you do trades with an axe, you will win.
How do you counter these traders using an axe? Try to get as close to them as possible or try to s tap to make them miss. Once they miss, you can try going for a spam crit or try to get them in a combo.
i know swords are better but i just prefer the axe just because of high damage hits but i do mainly play survival

The axe guy wasn't even good lol. He just kept running into your sword (even when he "ran away" he just turned and immediately ran back into your sword). Not saying that swords aren't a valid option when doing PvP, but if you are going to defend your point against axes, then get someone who actually knows how to PvP well and uses axes effectively.

Well tbf people like wiscox if this is an axe kit shiedless people who can S tap and weak hit spam mainly do better I've fought many actual good axe pvpers tier 2 and above and my weak hits work better than their sword you should try showing an example in an axe kit fighting someone whos tier 3 high and above (and it depends on the kit in a kit like yours the sword is obviously gonna be better cuz it recharges way faster than the wooden axe)
