Ohhhhh it does? I never knew…. Handy! I’m playing though Doom 64 right now and the Lost Souls seem to be ridiculously overpowered compared to regular Doom.
Nice retrospective! I had a great time playing through the Doom RPG on the 50x50 screen of my very first Motorola flip phone. So glad to hear it has modern ports too!
I wish more turn-based games used this kind of spatial positioning approach rather than just using menus. Imo it's a big part of what made Fallout so great, but they've gone in a different direction in the recent games ofc.
The interesting thing about Doom RPG is that it was developed almost exclusively by John Carmack (the original programmer for Doom) as a side project. Just because he COULD. I think all the id RPGs are interesting. Doom 2 RPG took the same concept further, even adding different characters to play as. Wolfenstein RPG is even more bonkers and has quite the unique artstyle. AND you can punch pictures of Hitler... or Totally Not Hitler, since he has a chin patch instead of a moustache. They all have these little humerous moments. I forgot if it was Doom RPG or the sequel, but you can also pick up toilets to chuck at enemies. That's hilarious! There was also Orcs & Elves, which used the same engine but was more of its own original thing set in a medieval fantasy world. Very cute.
I’m going to check out the Wolfenstein one next… I saw a lot of toilets in Doom RPG but couldn’t pick them up so I guess that’s in the sequel. It’s still such a fun game. It actually makes me want to play another Doom game for the channel 🙃
@@azordash_games You might need Berserk to pick up toilets, not sure if that's even a thing in that game, but it'd make sense. Looking forward to the Wolfenstein RPG! That one's interesting for many reasons, one of which is that it's sort of a bridge between RTCW and Wolfenstein 2009. And one more reason comes later in the game, not spoiling that ;)
So as I understand it, there were a few releases of the game and it was dependent on exactly which device you had (likely based on processor). The first release did not include any ceiling textures, however the third release did include ceiling textures and some extra audio for compatible devices. In saying that information is very hard to come by for the game so take this as a best guess.
That’s interesting. I watched Jarek’s video on this. I’m glad that people have dumped the code onto pc so others can play this. Although, I doubt that I’d play this. The only turn based rpgs I like are the Mario ones because they have timed hits where you can block attacks, use a button press to increase damage dealt, and for special moves you do a mini game. I personally find that far more engaging than selecting through a menu, while waiting for the enemy to attack.
I did enjoy the recent remake of Mario RPG! But keeping in mind what was possible on a low power phone when this was released I still think it’s impressive.
I REALLY need to get around to playing the Mario RPG remake since I have it laying around. I really like how wacky it is. Too bad for a while they sanitized/homogenized Mario. I’ll DEFINITELY be getting the TTYD remake later this year. That is true. It is impressive what people did back in the day. Too bad now mobile games are just filled with microtransactions.
Agility may be a behind the scenes dice roll for if an enemy attack misses or hits.
Doom RPG is a hidden gem, so cool there's a modern version that runs on modern source ports.
THe Fire Extinguisher also lets you "extinguish" Lost Souls!

Orcs & Elves was my childhood game.
I think I need to play Doom RPG
Funny you should say that... I need to check out Orcs & Elves!

Absolutely has this on my phone in 2008(?) - Got me through a lot of long long drives that summer

OH MY GOD GERMAN PETAH!!!
Huh, I don't remember there being ceiling textures in the version I had.

Based purely on guesswork, I would assume Agility increases the enemies Miss Chance.
I can see how that would be the case… good guess!
