One of the best arguments for hyzerflipping when you want a straight shot is that throwing at an angle will protect you somewhat against griplock. Let's say you throw a disc and your release point is 20 degrees "further" than you would have wanted. In the case of a flat throw, you'll go 20 degrees to the right (RHBH) and probably murder Treesus. In the case of a 45 degree hyzer, your 20 degree griplock is evenly shared between rightwards and upwards meaning you will only pull the disc 10 degrees to the right ( and 10 degrees up). Though the griplock is still not ideal, the hyzer will help you hit that gap. If the gap is in the very early part of the flight, the angle of the disc as it passes the gap may even help you out as well due to the width of the disc in flight being smaller.
I have been disc golfing for about 6 months (perfect San Diego winter sport) and whenever I narrow down what I want to work on next, Robbie C to the rescue! Keep up the great work, your videos are the best!
Lefties rule!! Really like this advice. Just need the season to change and I can go to my local course. I know exactly which hole I will instantly do better on with this advice. Thank you!!
Very Nice job Robbie C. One more tidbit I found useful, do not aim at the tree(s) you are wanting to avoid. And, be real with yourself. If you have trouble hitting lines on an open hole then you will have trouble hitting lines on wooded holes too. Keep practicing to fine-tune those skills and gain more confidence.
So this video changed my whole game! I’ve only been throwing disks for 14 days, but I’m struggling with my backhands.. My forehands are dope😊 After seeing this video I went outside and did som warm up throws before I hyzer flipped an understable disk 160ft down my driveway between the trees, with much less power than I’ve been doing!!! Amazing!! I’ve been reaching to far back and releasing my discs to late, nose up Not any more! Thank you😊🥏🥏😊
I have a lot of trouble with consistent releases, so this video is much appreciated. I also immediately picked up a flight towel after this video ended because there's a bunch of snow on the ground and practicing inside sounds nice
Just wanted to say ty. I watched these and it improved my lines tremendously today at one of our hardest courses in Clarksville tn. I threw a 2 under ant rotary park whoohooo
this video taught me a TON. there is also a really good flow to the video that makes it really easy to watch. thanks for the entertaining, efficient, and helpful content. youre the man!
Great video once again! One thing that I disagree with is the "full reach back". I think if you get a full reach back with straight and fully extended arm, it is easier to hit the line and also easier to get the pop/snap on the disc. And for me, it also seem to help with getting the timing better when doing a full reach back. Anyways, look at the pros and they all have different technique. Perhaps the only thing they have in common is that they all plant before throw starts and that they control angles really well alongside disc selection. 😀
This might be one of the best overall videos as a general guide for things to ‘overthink 😅’ about as a beginner. Seriously some good info. And as ‘not a beginner’ I am apparently releasing the disc way late… I ‘feel’ like my release is more towards almost full extension. I’m curious to see about applying this and what the results will be. Thanks RobbieC. And yes, definitely the best DG channel on YT!
Thanks. I've been playing for a few weeks. I felt myself improving on the drives and midrange throws. However, I lack consistency. I played this past weekend and was just terrible on most of the drives. I visualize where it needs to go and how the flight path should look, but the release was so inconsistent that it was frustrating. After watching this video, I went out and threw a bunch back and forth in the field and focusing on the 10 o'clock release, I had some nice consistent throws. Sure, I still had some bad ones, but there were quite a few throws where all three discs I was throwing went fairly straight and landed within feet of each other. I have a long way to go, but there were some good tips here. Now it's practice, practice, practice.
Another great thing about throwing understable is the fact that your miss is vertical when you release on a hyzer angle. Therefore you dont miss as much left-right but more low-high: Great for hitting gaps!
This is the exact piece of advice I needed! The 10 o'clock release has really helped my accuracy. The first time going out this has proved how valuable this tip is.
Great advice! Releasing at 10 is definitely something I need to work on! Also if you are doinking 4 putts in a row, maybe try putting with a Harp. Great putting putter ;)
My bad homie I been watching your stuff for a while now and I just realized I wasn't subscribed 😂 we good now. I have been playing at a higher level for a while now but I love watching your stuff and this video was top notch and it is all true everyone should listen to this. 😎👍
This is all good for mechanics. And that can help, well, your mechanics. But for me, I find I'm most consistent with hitting my lines when I my mindset is where I think it needs to be. And what helps me to hit my lines is to think about the target (the basket yes, but also the target "spot" I'm aiming for) as having an invisible "pulling" or "gravitational force" effect on me and my disk. I "feel" it during my runup, and I also feel it as I turn my head away from the target on my reach back. I know, weird, but it works for me.
Wombat absolutely surprised me. Ended up picking up one from Walmart in base plastic just to mess around with. It has become a staple when i need a mid to just float, and float, and float, and just keep floating.
Beginner here and have been watching your vids for tips. Great content and you've been a huge help to me. One last comment... that snapback is hanging on like Stallone in Cliffhanger. 😂😂 Have you considered the potential gravitational pull of that melon? Jokes aside, appreciate the content, man.
The placement of the ad was excellent! Haha What Innova discs do you tend to use for hyzer flips? I throw almost all over stable discs, but I have a Valkyrie and Mamba. I need to spend more time in the field with the mamba because I have no clue where that thing is going. 😁
My sister's dog chewed up my wombat3. It is a great disc for straight, controlled shots, and bombs so nicely on a little hyzer flip. Need replacing asap.
Whenever I'm trying to hit a tight gap I repeat the word gap gap gap gap in my mind as I run up to throw so that I'm not able to think about hitting trees or anything else other than my gap. Once I start doing this it completely changed my game believe it or not.
I'd love to find a Wombat3 in Star or Champion - been looking for months for a new one from any retail outlet, online or local. No luck. A friend of mine got me one in DX plastic, but I prefer my mids in premium plastic so I can keep them relatively consistent over time. That said, my Wombat3 is in my fieldwork stack along with extra Mako3's, Foxbats, Wombat (no 3), and others.
I don't know if it will help anyone, or maybe it's not correct, but I have had to focus on my plant foot placement for accuracy. My release point is naturally at 10, sometimes 11, but if my foot is perfectly perpendicular to my landing zone, I go way right. I personally had to turn my plant foot another 20-45 degrees in order for my release point to go to the landing zone. Since then I've had more accuracy, and can get back to enjoying my overstable discs in the woods. And to be clear it's only my plant foot. My body is still perpendicular to the landing zone to prevent rounding or losing power locking up my shoulders.
I have a horrible time getting my body to accelerate at the right point, leaving a ton of distance on the table. I'm very much a, reach far back and pull forward on a straight line type of thrower. I still throw 300+ consistently, but my accuracy isn't as good and obviously it is taxing on my arm. I throw RHBH and can't pivot well off my right knee, so I have almost no follow threw as well. I'll give the towel strategy a try.
Now I'm thoroughly confused...I originally thought you had to release the Disc but then I see all the videos about getting snap. I thought that snap sound is the Disc ripping out of your hand?
Hey Mr. C Disc Golf! great video as always! I've got a specific question that kind of stems off of this concept. I know I can throw a good shots, but how can I throw that good shot the FIRST time? I just played my first tournament, round 1 was okay. round two was a blood bath. almost every tee shot was a disaster. first off, it was a very wooded, but fair course. I knew the course and the shots, I had been practicing there a lot. I took notes and knew what disc, what angle, what power to throw for each tee. but still had a terrible round. I have a tee pad routine and I try to stay very conscious of any environmental changes. do you have any suggestions?
You helped on absolutely nothing. 😢 I've tried your approach, my drives are hitting every single tree possible. Very useless information I need to get out of my head now, like 20 more of them awaiting in a line of useless information.
As a lefty I appreciate someone finally realizing we are better lol
Blasphemy!
It’s true 👍
Someone gets it
Couldn't agree more
I’m left handed but I can’t throw left handed:(
I can't stop looking at that hat size my man.
Also love your stuff. Thanks for the tips.

If the gap is in the very early part of the flight, the angle of the disc as it passes the gap may even help you out as well due to the width of the disc in flight being smaller.
Exactly
That’s logic right there👏
There's so much key stuff jam packed into this short video it's easy to gloss over a lot. This one is gold so pay attention

I live in the Pacific Northwest. I feel your pain. That’s why I go after pink disc lol.

Fantastic video. Clarified several misunderstandings I had about the release angle. Much appreciated Robbie!

🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻Thank You!! But I can’t be the man because I’m fighting for third at best. You and Mikey are the front runners in the “The Man” race.
You had me dying when you said, “OH BABY TIME TO CRUSH IT!!!”

Very informational I just gotta put it into practice thanks Robbie
This video is very timely as I am practicing by throwing putters and midranges to become more accurate on a consistent basis.

Loved the subtle forewarning of the commercial 😅

Robbie, I applied this to a tournament yesterday and shot 74 points above my rating. Keep up the good work!
Very helpful, and insightful! Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for the great video. Finally ordered a flight towel using the link. Been wanting one and it was an easy way to support the channel.
Been struggling as a newbie at hitting my line. A lot of goooood tips and “ah hah” moments. Thanks for the awesome breakdown!
Great advice! Releasing at 10 is definitely something I need to work on!
Also if you are doinking 4 putts in a row, maybe try putting with a Harp. Great putting putter ;)
Hahaha yesss!!
I have the most trouble with anhyzer shots with a 12 o'clock release. My body is fighting trusting the disc to do its thing. Thanks for the video!
My bad homie I been watching your stuff for a while now and I just realized I wasn't subscribed 😂 we good now. I have been playing at a higher level for a while now but I love watching your stuff and this video was top notch and it is all true everyone should listen to this. 😎👍

great informational video here sir!
Now I gotta try to remember to work on follow through. I think I'm messing that part up. Thanks, Robbie!
You and me both! If you're not accelerating at the right point, the follow through doesn't come naturally. That's my problem.
Bro you are really good at explaining things, tell me what to do & why...I will learn!
As always, love the video!
Keep it up, man
Robbie you ingenious son of a wombat3. That clock tip is 👌
Wombat absolutely surprised me. Ended up picking up one from Walmart in base plastic just to mess around with. It has become a staple when i need a mid to just float, and float, and float, and just keep floating.
Man I wish my town had more than 2 stores that sell discs. I’ve never seen anything disc golf related in any of the 3 Walmarts we have!
I absolutely love my Wombat3s :D Nice to see them here ! Champion, 180g, get the penned run, if possible.
Gonna have to try out that serpentine run up sometime
Hey Robbie - great tips and great video and BTW you have a serious dome if your on that last notch of that hat... holy crap!
I needed this video so bad
As always, insightful and freakin hilarious!!
Great video, Robbie.
TIME TO CRUSH ITTTTTTTT
Love my champion wombat3! Has a ton of glide as well
The placement of the ad was excellent! Haha What Innova discs do you tend to use for hyzer flips? I throw almost all over stable discs, but I have a Valkyrie and Mamba. I need to spend more time in the field with the mamba because I have no clue where that thing is going. 😁
QUACK!!! is all I hear when I approach tunnel shots. I hope this video gets those birds out of my head! Lol

Wooow robbie, i have a big head like you. Last clip hat bro!
Great video. Looking to play my first tournament in February
Let’s go!!! Good luck!!
Ad placement game on point

"you can even use your flight towel during commercial breaks" *Vrbo add starts* I LOLed

The fact that this man doesn’t have 100,000 subscribers is criminal.

Hazy Shade has 2 yellow champion wombat3 172g,177g shipping is fast n fairly inexpensive. My last order of 3 disc was free shipping
Awesome video Robbie, can you now explain it for all the digital watch wearing folks? haha
🤣🤣🤣
look on amazon for the disc
That commercial break thing was a bit genius
Now I'm thoroughly confused...I originally thought you had to release the Disc but then I see all the videos about getting snap. I thought that snap sound is the Disc ripping out of your hand?
When are you going to sell a "Quack" noisemaker keychain?
I'm confused. Are we supposed to let the disc rip out of our hand, or are we releasing at 10:00?
I hear my buddy yelling treeeeeeee!!!!!!!! watching this I'll send it to him lol
Star foxbat! Same numbers, but way better! Find urself one of them! I have my thrower and 3 reserves since they aren't made anymore!!!!
But that doesn’t seem to stop those tree magnets from sucking in my disc. Any tips on deactivating those pesky tree magnets???
“Even in commercial breaks…” Thanks Robbie
How did you know there would be a commercial break there🤔😠😁
Anyone else notice Robbie's hat screaming on the last hole? That big Ole head
Are you related to stone mountain?
❤
The last snap on his cap was hanging on for dear life...
I demand compensation for your impersonation of me at 7:50.

I always enjoyed your turn around jumper off the glass back in the day.
👍🏾
"Hold on a sec Robbie" *busts out the towel and focuses on 10 o clock* The loudest snap ever was the result.
So we are releasing the disc and not letting it rip out??? I always heard it will rip out and you arnt actually opening your hand and releasing it
Otb shows 1 blue one left of the wombat..
Yo i got a blue wombat3 you can have
Hole 3 carter.
I have a great olive green wombat3 that loves to hide in the forest if that’s something you’re interested in.
When you’re head is so massive you have your hat on the very last button😆😆
Just wish I could actually go play, to much snow on the ground and way to cold for my enjoyment
Slow is smooth smooth is far
I always say, the thing you should be trying harder to do is to maximize the effortlessness of your form.
Do or do not. There is no try.
You helped on absolutely nothing. 😢
I've tried your approach, my drives are hitting every single tree possible.
