I'm a 67 year old BLACK MAN. SITTING HERE with tears streaming down my face. I remember this performance. Over 40 years ago. No one ever sang so soulful like this underrated sister.
The fact that she was moving around and able to sustain that note shows how much of a gifted vocalist she truly was. This woman put her soul into this performance and left it there. If only I could've seen her in her prime perform Home.

As a professional musician, I don't believe that Stephanie Mills has ever received the praise for her talent and pre-imminence as one the greatest song stylists of her generation. Many years ago (too many, I'm afraid!), I remember seeing her perform live as Dorothy in the original Broadway version of "The Wiz." I have never forgotten that performance. Every, single time I hear this beautiful and moving tune, I cry... for happy. God bless you Stephanie Mills, and thanks for the memories. :)

With due respects to Whitney, Stephanie's "Home" is unparalleled in all of singing history and will remain that way for a very, very, very long time. I've had this version since the 90s and it has remained very close to my heart, so much that I feel I've memorised how she sings it. Her style is unmistakable and recognizable. I fell in love with this song mainly for the way she sang it. I love her other early songs too like "Feel The Fire", both solo and duet version (with the late Teddy Pendergrass?). I hope I could listen to some of the tracks she has recently recorded, if they have been released already. Thanks for this upload and thanks for sharing a great artist on youtube.

I am a Kindergarten Teacher and I play music like this to my students around the world, i believe in music and i so believe in teasing the ear to know the differenc in musical notes. I had a student misbehave in his music lesson. I took him back to the class and for punishment I made him sit and listen to music that he would not have heard on a normal day. He held me so tight and said he would not miss his lessons ever again. I guess we all have different forms of managing bad behaviour.
I just listened to Diana's version, very decent actually liked the build up in it, she did her thang. Whitney is Whitney truly gifted talent but they just brought me back the Stephanie's Apollo performance and all I can say is she signed sealed and delivered this song into greatness!!! From 2:55 on She brought down the house and @ 5:00 left you breathless! Love the other versions but Stephanie took you HOME, Church and moved your soul!

I was a manager and a hotel she stayed at in Detroit and when I saw her, I couldn't believe how tiny she was I'm 5'5" and she was a little bit of a thing. When you have a voice like she does - so powerful and strong - it is an amazing gift from God to share with the world and she certainly has done that! Love her music you don't see performers like this anymore they're a dying breed.

I was a manager and a hotel she stayed at in Detroit and when I saw her, I couldn't believe how tiny she was I'm 5'5" and she was a little bit of a thing. When you have a voice like she does - so powerful and strong - it is an amazing gift from God to share with the world and she certainly has done that! Love her music you don't see performers like this anymore they're a dying breed.
