From Pianity: "Mills has won numerous awards throughout her career including two Grammy Awards (1981 & 1989), six American Music Awards (1981-1987) and two NAACP Image Awards (1982 & 1985). She has been inducted into the R&B Hall of Fame and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1998." And that's not all!
I agree, even though they changed the part to a school teacher I thought Diana ross was not right for the role. It should have been Stephanie’s! But we all know why Berry Gordy cast her in the role!!!!!!
Our family was friends with Carl Hall who played The wiz after Andre DeShield's left in this particular revival I was 16 years old 1970 9 when I saw it I've been a fan of his ever since her voice is incredible she sounds the same as in the recording they don't produce her voice much it's like a raw recording unbelievable and she still sounds like this today
Wow! The quality of this video is stunning, considering how old this clip is. What a gift! Allows us to really experience this without the distraction of a fuzzy, distorted video. Stunning. Thank you!
i had the pleasure of seeing this on broadway - i was very young. My grandmother had taken all of her grandkids..it was so lovely. seeing this play peeked my interest in theatre..
Actually saw this on Broadway. And I’ve never been so proud !✊🏽the true goat of music 🎶 . One of the best mom’s and person on this planet 🌎 We love you Stephanie.🌺❤️🙏🏽
As a kid I went to see this at the Fischer Theater in Detroit. My first of many plays my mother would take me to. She’d purchase the album and I would play the songs allllll day and sing them all. It was my happy place. Almost 50 years later I play this during a time in my life when I am stressing and it puts me back in a HAPPY place and brings a sense of Gratitude about my mom to my remembrance. I am Grateful to my mom for giving me an outlet and a wonderful childhood that only I understand.❤❤❤
Beautiful!! Love Stephanie's voice!!💕😊 the clip is so special and nice to see 💕 Thank you! I would have loved so much to have had the chance see the original wiz!!!! Broadway cast with Stephanie Mills!!💕🌻

No. These are clips of the 1983/1984 revival. The actress on the watermelon is Ann Duquesnay. Dee Dee Bridgewater descended from a pyramid down a flight of stairs escorted by Quadlings, the minions and attendants in her domain in the original 1975 show!

@@thewizboy You sound ANGRY!!!! Stephanie NEVER said she wasn’t considered for the film. She just eluded to answering questions when it comes to that because of her respect and admiration for Ms.Ross. Geoffrey Holder actually mentioned that Stephanie was privately considered for the movie role…in fact the producers fixed her appearance by straightening her teeth and fixing her nose around this time in mid 1977 and 1978. Stephanie missed a LOT of performances during her run on broadway due to her carrying the show along with recording… tv appearances…etc… plus getting plastic surgery for possible consideration for the upcoming movie role which ultimately went to Ms. Ross. Diana made Gordy roar.😂
Stephanie's vocals make grown men cryyyyyyyu. The RESONANCE

she's the only dorothy in my wiz world. No one else can compare. ❤
She's a fan of Shanice Williams.
The original cast album from the 70s is incredibly under-rated. The singing and orchestrations are dynamic and superb❤❤❤
Check out the 2024 cast. They are AMAZING!!!
Nichelle Lewis is making Stephanie proud right now. That current cast is simply incredible.
They were so lucky to find Stephanie Mills! What a rare jewel. 🎶💕🎶
