Good review! Informative, factual and not too long. And good footage of the landing as well - SFO is one of the more beautiful airport approaches. Well done! Have just subscribed - looking forward to more reviews!
Good vlog. I flew the opposite direction on UA in December 2001 (got off at SYD, which was the intermediate stop). The significance of 9/11 3 months earlier was not lost on us when we initially flew LHR-JFK and stayed 3 nights. JFK-SFO (another 3 nights) and then SFO-SYD all on UA. Last flight was packed and it was on the 747 in those days. And I was in economy too. Long flight but will never forget the summer view of Sydney Harbour on final approach. ✈️👍
Thank you for the shout out, btw! Keep up the great videos. I agree, it's not really a good neck pillow and it's barely any better than the regular economy pillow. I love the takeoff out of MEL. Have you ever requested one of United's special meals? Always love the landings into SFO.
Thanks Jeff! Yes, I actually requested a gluten free meal last month when I went back to Sydney on UA. It was a pretty good choice actually. The dinner was comparable to the standard what everyone else got but the breakfast gluten free version was really good! I agree SFO landings can be quite scenic. By chance will you be at Miramar Airshow this Saturday? I'm planning on going and it be cool to have a meet and greet!
Lucky you had space to spread out. My flight from SYD to DFW on a Qantas A380 was completely full and I was in Economy! I'm trying to get on another United 777 and film in Polaris. When I flew last year, I was assigned an aisle pod so I decided not to film it.
Yeah I definitely lucked out on this flight. I actually recently flew back from SYD to LAX on Qantas in Economy as well and it was a nearly full flight. Not fun.
Very nice work. I haven’t been in Australia yet. Which airport I can fly to? Melbourne or Sydney? I’m trying to get a cheaper ticket to Sydney. One day I can go to Sydney during the day and turnaround time back to United States. I wish I can go there. But it was not too far away from there.
Thanks for watching! I absolutely recommend Sydney! Of course you can also fly into Melbourne from the US but I highly recommend Sydney as the first city to visit.
I'm a hardcore aviation enthusiast but I actually reckon I'd go near insane from boredom on a flight that long unless I somehow managed to sleep through it!
Totally agree! 14 hour flight is a bit much. I bring a bit of reading on my ipad and I try to sleep 7 hours or as well to try to fill up the time. But even then, there is still quite a bit of time to kill.
@@BayAreaTravelerI’ve done LAX to Melbourne twice, it’s 15hrs. Brutal flight. You almost go insane in economy. This year we went LAX to Hawaii and stayed there for 5 days, then went back to Mel.
I have Global Entry so it's not an issue coming into the US. I can't remember how long I slept on the plane, maybe 6 hours or so. Just curious though, why the interest in how long I slept on the plane?
Yeah I understand, the Oz dollars not favorable at the moment. Also last winter, there was an over capacity of seats. US had so many flights in and out of Australia. Even at one point, UA was sending 2 flights daily into SYD, which I had no idea why.
Disappointing that an airline would list the flight time as 12 pm. There's a 12 pm or 12 am as much as there's an equator in the Northern or southern hemisphere. It's an imaginary delineation that separates the two zones, so it can be neither in the morning nor the afternoon. Professionals quote the times as either 12 noon or 12 midnight which is scientifically correct and cannot be misinterpreted.
Not quite understanding your comment and what it has to do with A380. On this flight from MEL to SFO I was in "poor man's business class" due to having the whole entire row in economy.
Great video, was looking to see if you could see me plane spotting at Melb. You flew over my house though haha
Thanks for watching! Alas I didn't see any plane spotter during the taxi.
I like your wing view. Can't agree more with you about IFE of United

Thanks for sharing your story. Certainly the view of Sydney Harbour can be absolutely spectacular on approach!
Great trip..
You showed everything....happy to see lots of space....

Did the same flight 2 weeks later on March 31st. Every seat was full!
It's crazy just how a few weeks can make a difference.
We recently did San Fran to melbourne, premium economy. Long flight but it was good, would fly united again for sure.
@@prussiaaero1802 Yes, UA Premium Economy is quite good!
thank you excellent video

I am surprised you did not fly the 787 Dreamliner
I believe UA switches between the 777 and 787 depending on season. But I was surprised though they were using the 777 on this route.
How many hours did you sleep on the plane, do you remember how much you pay to fly United and how's passport control for entering the US?

I see. Because I am curious. Do you remember how much you pay to fly United to San Francisco?
Wish I could fly to Melbourne.😢

Not many Aussies travelling because our dollar is worthless against the green back !!

Most people would understand 12pm departure time as the time in the originating city. I don't think it's that complicated.
@@BayAreaTraveler So is it midnight or noon?
@@georgebronte840 Flight departed when there was daylight. It’s clear what time of day it is. It’s not that complicated.
Unless your business class a very cramped ride in economy Airbus A380 wins for space
