Really great video man! Awesome complete overview and walk through. I just bought one of these thanks to you and will be installing it on a Bixler 2. Also love the ugly bucket plane too! I know this video is a year old, but please keep up the great work.
@Snowbrdr020 Getting better video reception at closer ranges would be nice. Im sure that can be achieved with better antennas. Which also leads to longer ranges.
Good review. Oh man...I was cracking up at the end with the panning shots of that plane. Reminds me of Treetop Flyer: "I love my aeroplane cause she's got so much style!"
@sn4k3d Im not sure what could be causing this problem. Contact foxtech and tell them about whats going on. Are you sure your connectors are not plugged in backwards?
Great video, well demonstrated. Just some questions, where did you mount the IR sensor and was it mounted horizontally or vertically and where on the plane? Instructions says horizontally but the instructions have the electrical connections back to front and maybe they got that wrong to.
Awesome video. Very nice editing in this one too. Can't go wrong with the rth function. $145 goes well spent when you compare it to possibly loosing the plane and all your FPV gear.
@rctestflight I was just curious if you had looked into it; When I get to that point, I do want to increase range. Im up at lake tahoe. At some point the plan will be to fly from either the top of one of the local resorts or from mt rose summit, and want as much range as possible. Appreciate your time thanks again.
@hidaven 3k range for video or control? I get much more than that for video and I have gone a mile with 2.4 for the control radio. Im guessing the total cost is about 600. the RTH just controls axis.
when you bind have the RTH switch flipped, that will engage the RTH when you go into failsafe. Or if you have a settable failsafe, set the failsafe to have the RTH switch flipped or "on"
Great video. I will be ordering this OSD tomorrow. Could you please tell me the camera you use in the plane. It seems to be working very well. Thank you
hi- very cool video- love the low flying-thanks- can I ask- does the single axis stabilization only keep the plane straight, but not level- ie. it controls te ailerons to control the turn rates, but not elevator to keep it level at one altitude or if not what does SINGLE axis IR sensor mean exactly? What is 'PA' mode? PS- with a directional patch antenna- how did you fly around seemingly not in a straight line and so low stil with good video feed? keep up the great work!
Thanks for the great review! I have the Nova OSD and I was wondering how you have setup your IR sensor as from your video it looks like it's inside the fuselage, I thought it needed to be placed on the outside with a clear view of the horizon. Interestingly this is how I have mounted it and I can't get the RTH to work at all, even after calibrating it through the menu, the plane just goes into a spiral when I activate RTH. Thanks again
hey man i love your channel, because of your channel iv decided im going to try my hand at flying rc planes. do you have any n00b or easy to fly planes you can recommend? preferably one that you think would be big enough to one day mount some fpv gear in ?
did you only have a patch or a patch with omni? Cause i noticed you flew around yourself so wouldn't u lose signal with only a patch? Great vids, thanks!
Do all modules have to be connected in order for the OSD to work? Or can I, for example, unplug the current sensor and still use the OSD for ever other function? Great video by the way.
Hi! great setup! couple of questions... 1. Whats with the 3k foot range with 2.4?? I have large electric gliders that I get to 4k with my JR 9503 and AR9300 RX. Im getting nervous : ) 2. Whats the total cost for all the equipment including the goggles? 3. Does the RTH function also take over throttle or is it just axis control? Thanks!!
Thanks for this vid! Nice to watch the flight! Hey Dan i need advice: i'm mounting this black stork osd soon but don't know what's the range of the Futaba 7c 2.4 Ghz Tx i use (can't find any Watt). What do you think should be safe range of normal flying with this futaba--one mile?? My video Tx is 1000mW 1.2 Ghz Thanks!
Nice video review One question though, at 2:50 you turn on the RTH function. When I activate the RTH it shows PA on the screen. In your video it doesn't, do you know why? Thanks, David
Great video man and a cool presentation/review as far as the split screens and showing the features. I had a question, What is that thing your Tx was in and what was it for, to hold something? Maybe you said and I missed it,
@Soldier53flyer, @ 1-2 the OSD get its power from engine batt. When the jumper connects the pin 2 and 3, the current sensor just offer the voltage info (from engine) to the OSD board, you need to connect another 12v power (3s lipo for exaple) to power the OSD and AV in and AV out.
What is going on with that other larger tripod that is just in shot at 1:15? Do you have another antenna up there? Also could I ask what camera you are using? And is that a vee antenna on the plane? Cheers
Ok thanks, BTW, this is a very well put together video so THANKS for the great video. my second question is, do you have PDF plans for that plan??? cause I really want to build one.. if not, can you maybe give me a general I dea of how you went about making it if thats not to much to ask for??? thanks
You answered many questions . The RTH appears to work great for what it is intended. I have one on order and am using a DX6i. Any suggestions on how to set up RTH as it only has 2 position (flaps or gear) switch?
Thanks for the Help, I was so impressed by your video and this product in general that I have decided to buy one my self. I just want to make sure that once I get it I will know exactly how to hook everything up so can you please tell me, what do you connect the "display mode" and "flight mode" to??? thanks
I spent almost 8 hours yesterday and last night checking out your videos and doing a lot a reading and checking out parts, etc whatever. Great work on your videos and all the information. In an earlier video, you mentioned you were looking for a cheap pair of video goggles.... how do you like your fat shark goggles? Also, you talk again about your range limitations with 2.4 ghz, what would be the next step up to increase range?
Wow Dude that looks like fun, very cool . I would like to get into fpv what components do you recommend there seems to be so many types of gadgets out there Im kinda overwhelmed by them all.
@Zook500 also i have very limited funds so would you recommend building one of your planes from your plans? or buying a rtf plane? i understand that building one may not be as easy as it sounds but i think i would probably enjoy the experimenting that i imagine comes with building one? if you can get back to me that would be awesome =]
@AirHerosfr depends what you want. 5.8ghz needs a clear link between the reciever and transmitter so no flying below trees and houses. 900mhz is meant to be the best for range per mw as it has larger wavelengths so better for flying behinds trees and houses.some mobile phones interfere with 900mhz as if you watched daniel's 2.4ghz vs 900mhz
@agetchell in the video at 1:04 min the IR sensor is sitting at the back in the fuz under the wing - as such would not function. the reason you havent got a reply is that he dosnt have an answer.......
Must the IR stabilization be hooked up for RTH? Didn't see it in your setup. It also appeared the Variometer (VSI) value was only ever +/-13 even in steep climbs and dives when the altimeter clearly indicates greater change per second. What's up with that?
MMMmmm! Could you please also mention something about the software that you use to record on the computer and may be some hardware need it to do it! I really enjoy and appreciated your videos! Thanks
@hidaven its different for every location. The GPS will not hold location. It just flies home.
@AirForcedude5 its not a flight stabilization system but it will keep your plane locked in on the roll axis.
@azzurripro you should contact foxtech about the MAH problem. The RTH symbol didn't show up because I was using a different layout.
I really love how easy you make FPV look! Its always very motivating to watch your videos
@MsMezzzz It was mounted under the plane horizontally
@jimzeagle you can use the gear switch
@Snowbrdr020 I like the fatsharks. I really don't need to increase my range at all.
@ExperimentalAirlines yes, it was
Really great video man! Awesome complete overview and walk through. I just bought one of these thanks to you and will be installing it on a Bixler 2. Also love the ugly bucket plane too! I know this video is a year old, but please keep up the great work.
Your best review ever! Very professional, very informative. I just bought one!
@Snowbrdr020 Getting better video reception at closer ranges would be nice. Im sure that can be achieved with better antennas. Which also leads to longer ranges.
@wurthman the OSD part would work. I don't know if the rth would
@hirnwinde there both just pieced together from parts from different places so I'm not quite sure
@BMSWEB depends what you set the failsafe to do.
@RcPlanesAreAwsome yes, it has to be installed
@xsykgaffelx it depends what you set your failsafe to. I don't think you can get rssi with a spektrum receiver.
@mmmbcn you still have some of a signal behind patches
@hallobaaaby i have no idea. And there are so many variables theres no way to know for sure besides doing a test.
@ostidetabarnak yes it does
@sn4k3d try plugging the video connectors in differently.
@darkarmy53 try mounting the sensor differently
@ExperimentalAirlines i don't know, thats the answer for all your questions
@dnmac5 start with just a camera, transmitter and receiver
@graenet just the IR sensor
@graenet i don't have plans, sorry
@Zook500 try a hobby zone super cub or a nitroplanes wild hawk or something like that
it was previous firmware that didn't show RTH on the OSD display
@hondaodyssey5 you have to get a new system. The IR sensor senses the horizon
@Soldier53flyer you only need 4 channels if your just using it as a normal OSD. If you want rth you need 5
Good review. Oh man...I was cracking up at the end with the panning shots of that plane. Reminds me of Treetop Flyer: "I love my aeroplane cause she's got so much style!"
@DaveMoi I have no clue why, thats strange
@sn4k3d Im not sure what could be causing this problem. Contact foxtech and tell them about whats going on. Are you sure your connectors are not plugged in backwards?
@Hoverbot1TV im not sure if it works on quads. I don't think it does.
@professorubbertoe not with the old firmware ;)
@hondaodyssey5 its called the twin fpv plane. Look for my video on it.
it was previous firmware and the ir sensor is on the bottom of the plane so you can't see it
@rcgod01 mine was probably earlier firmware or something
@surfgoof I mounted mine on the outside under the plane
Great video, well demonstrated. Just some questions, where did you mount the IR sensor and was it mounted horizontally or vertically and where on the plane?
Instructions says horizontally but the instructions have the electrical connections back to front and maybe they got that wrong to.
Awesome video. Very nice editing in this one too. Can't go wrong with the rth function. $145 goes well spent when you compare it to possibly loosing the plane and all your FPV gear.
@hondaodyssey5 gear and aux. you can't use rth or any other functions
@rctestflight I was just curious if you had looked into it; When I get to that point, I do want to increase range. Im up at lake tahoe. At some point the plan will be to fly from either the top of one of the local resorts or from mt rose summit, and want as much range as possible. Appreciate your time thanks again.
Thanks for the demo. Have you tried activating the RTH in other situations, like low level flying, in a steep dive or behind a hill or some trees?
@hidaven 3k range for video or control? I get much more than that for video and I have gone a mile with 2.4 for the control radio. Im guessing the total cost is about 600. the RTH just controls axis.
@rctestflight OK, clearly the RTH worked, so was the IR sensor hooked up for the test flights or not?
the plane wasn't even completed then. That was before I had it permanently mounted.
just have to say that the way you reviewed it was very good (info, plane, setup)
@magicmike1122 ya
when you bind have the RTH switch flipped, that will engage the RTH when you go into failsafe. Or if you have a settable failsafe, set the failsafe to have the RTH switch flipped or "on"
Great work! Awesome video editing and shooting. What camera are you running here?
@alfdoggit um ya thats cuz i filmed it after it crashed
Where did you get the bag the you put over your Dx7 that is sweet......Also what camera are you using in this video. Very Nice.
Great video. I will be ordering this OSD tomorrow.
Could you please tell me the camera you use in the plane. It seems to be working very well.
Thank you
Great videos and builds :) When you activate the RTH does the plane return to the launch location and circle overhead?
hi- very cool video- love the low flying-thanks- can I ask- does the single axis stabilization only keep the plane straight, but not level- ie. it controls te ailerons to control the turn rates, but not elevator to keep it level at one altitude or if not what does SINGLE axis IR sensor mean exactly? What is 'PA' mode? PS- with a directional patch antenna- how did you fly around seemingly not in a straight line and so low stil with good video feed? keep up the great work!
@rctestflight oh i just re watched and now see your broken motor and mount at 1.41 ha ha, also forgot to say yet another brilliant flight and review
Thanks for the great review! I have the Nova OSD and I was wondering how you have setup your IR sensor as from your video it looks like it's inside the fuselage, I thought it needed to be placed on the outside with a clear view of the horizon. @TRXracerZeka95 a camera slider
I dig your RC radio cozy. ;)
thanks again forbthe review. Question: do you need a stabilisation system for the RTH function on the Nova to work?
@rctestflight Thanks broseph, you da man! Like I said, Foxtech has you to thank for me buying one of these today.
hey man i love your channel, because of your channel iv decided im going to try my hand at flying rc planes. do you have any n00b or easy to fly planes you can recommend? preferably one that you think would be big enough to one day mount some fpv gear in ?

@darkarmy53 does your video whorl without the board?
Nice video review
One question though, at 2:50 you turn on the RTH function. When I activate the RTH it shows PA on the screen. In your video it doesn't, do you know why?

Awesome osd and very easy to follow. I’m glad that’s how you land, I thought I was doing something wrong lol
Great video man and a cool presentation/review as far as the split screens and showing the features. I had a question, What is that thing your Tx was in and what was it for, to hold something? Maybe you said and I missed it,
@rctestflight I can't believe I actually asked the question! Thanks Man :)
good review - just ordered one from foxtech. Like the FPV platform you use in this video too - you have a build plan of it or link? Thanks man.

nice job, almost makes me regret buying the dosd. i noticed you are wearing pants also! do u know if the rth works with delta wings?
Thanks for the vid, I'm new to RC but now I know the proper way to land a plane!
You answered many questions . The RTH appears to work great for what it is intended. I have one on order and am using a DX6i. Any suggestions on how to set up RTH as it only has 2 position (flaps or gear) switch?
@squarepants1961 contact foxtechfpv and see if they have any suggestions
@schraut5 the fh18c

I just want to make sure that once I get it I will know exactly how to hook everything up so can you please tell me, what do you connect the "display mode" and "flight mode" to???

Yeah I was wondering the approximate cost for the entire FPV system you have? I've been wanting to get into this but it seems pretty damn expensive.
I spent almost 8 hours yesterday and last night checking out your videos and doing a lot a reading and checking out parts, etc whatever. Great work on your videos and all the information.

@hondaodyssey5 extra channels on your radio
@Zook500 also i have very limited funds so would you recommend building one of your planes from your plans? or buying a rtf plane? i understand that building one may not be as easy as it sounds but i think i would probably enjoy the experimenting that i imagine comes with building one? if you can get back to me that would be awesome =]
@Zook500 multiplex easystar robust foam, stable and good payload when you go brushless
@Gezelem2002 Hobbyking and FH-20C
Great vids!! Would you recommend the Tornado over the Storm?
are you able to set the RTH function as failsafe?
love the vids btw man
Very informative vid! Good job!
@Soldier53flyer i would think it'd be fine unless your doing mixed channels in the radio (tailerons ect). you might range test it too
@AirHerosfr depends what you want.

It also appeared the Variometer (VSI) value was only ever +/-13 even in steep climbs and dives when the altimeter clearly indicates greater change per second. What's up with that?
Did you use your fy30a on this plane? if so did it help to get stable video?
@AirHerosfr I use 5.8Ghz 200mw and it's great, but you got to have free line og sight. Superb picture and 800meters+ with stock antenna.
@RCllamadude is your tv pal or ntsc?
MMMmmm! Could you please also mention something about the software that you use to record on the computer and may be some hardware need it to do it! I really enjoy and appreciated your videos! Thanks
