Special thanks to Jeremiah (of Stone Blue Airlines) for helping us in the studio on this episode!!
Thanks for watching!
ATV repeaters are actually transmit/receivers operated by ham radio operators. It's amateur television transmitted between individuals. They operate in a variety of frequencies and a bands. Popular wavelengths are 70cm and 23 cm and sometimes shorter. The gentleman in the middle sounds like he was in fact a ham radio op, and probably a very skilled one.
lol at 12:44 it looks like the guest suddenly had david's voice.
Very nicely done. It's nice seeing how enthusiastic Alex is about what he is doing. It would be nice to see a comparison between popular OSD systems. Thank you guys.
Flite Test & IBeCrazy...
How much cooler can it get?
Heli Fan Ensenada if they open the windows when its winter.
@@GranVlog good old times :)
Amazing to see the enthusiasm Alex shows when he is explaining what he did etc. great episode guys!
Many thanks for the provocative series of tests. And despite any shortcomings, we should compliment FliteTest and Alex for stepping forward and giving it their best shot within real world time constraints. As a microwave technician, I appreciate all the complexities planning and conducting tests like these with limited resources. The fact that you encourage dialog on TH-cam and your website is a testimonial that you encourage open communications. Kudos gentlemen and keep 'em coming!
Finally! A constructive comment...
I remembered an old Asian proverb
The fool shouts.
The intelligence gives his opinion.
But the wise man will keep quiet.
Yours was a concrete, well meant and wise comment.
Congratulations
We would love to see more videos about fpv systems from Alex, and a long range flight done by the flight test crew!
I love how passionate IBcrazy is about the hobby... Gets me pumped!
That was a lot of work! Thanks ibcrazy and FT for the show.
Really cool having IBCrazy drop in!!!
Show us a full LR setup please.
love your system, its all about knowledge on how rf are affected with harmonics, de-sensed, and how to propagate the signals. As long as you know placement of transceivers including chosen of bands, you get much of the range out of your system.
Well. best systems will have a good front end filter to fight de-sensing - (reduction in sensitivity in the front end through high RF bombardment) and good filters on transmitters for clean Emitted RF. even though you have all these, if you don't handle RF propagation well, you will not maximize the range.
This is the best video yet. Let me just say you are the TH-cam channel I watch most, besides Davids and RCmodeler reviews. You prove to be the best of TH-cam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and should be pumped into MY COMCAST!
the guy was so happy and energetic, and Davids just like wow....that's pretty cool......
Alex is so passionate about what he does he's crazy, nice video guys and very informative
Agree with the comment about using a very old Scherrer LRS. also power settings were not discussed. Many transmitters have the ability to boost signal by upping the power. Having said that a great video and IBCrazy is a great personality and contributor to the FOV world.
It would be so cool if you and alex did an episode about the specter, I'm sure every one would love it.
*Help me out!*
So i'm new to FPV Plane flying for long range and I did lots of research to completely know what I need for a good and safe flight (over 2km) what I need is:
1. Video Camera (connects to VTX)
2. VTX and Antenna (Omni/Leaf) (200mw 2,4Ghz)
3. Video Receiver (Connects to Goggles/Screen)
4. UHF (433mHz) Transmitter (Binds with TX Trainer Port)
5. UHF Receiver. (Servo plugs)
6. OSD
Is this correct and do I need anything else for a good and safe flight for over 2km?
There is more accumulated knowledge and information from this site than any other. Keep it up guys.
Wow that dude is fired up. I have no idea what you're talking about there but it's still entertaining for some weird reason.
You can take the antenna off the receiver, but -do not remove- the antenna from the transmitter (remember, some receivers might be both a receiver and a transmitter, as with OpenLRS)!
Great job guy's, and it was nice to see Alex (IBCrazy) on the show.
love the production value on this. keep it up guys.
I'm not sure if using attenuators would be an accurate measurement of distance because the attenuators are lowering the note the noise floor along with the signal so I'll sensitive receiver would still be able to read a clean signal whereas that same receiver may not be able to read a faint signal through a high noise floor
What happened to the FT3D speed build kit and all the updates that were supposedly made to it??? Been waiting patiently for this to come out!
Awesome. What firmware were you running on the OpenLRS? I have been mucking about with OpenLRSng. Big difference from the standard firmware. Love it.
this episode was helpful but i was wondering if you guys could do more of a tutorial. keep up the good work!
I don't even have an RC plane but I still found this interesting.
Great review! My Chainlink is what Rangelink evolved from and when I added Alex's turnstile my range doubled or tripled over stock uhf dipole. 5*
Awesome to see the three of you guys in a cool video!
IBCrazy is like the nicest guy ever! His parents did him right. Nice video. Thanks Alex.
Awesome guys you killed it with this one! good job!
Answered SO MANY of my questions!
readymaderc has several of them if you are in the u.s.
great vid guys cool to see ib crazy on here your show has really become a place for all parts of this hobby to share there knowledge thanks guys for the great entertainment
Awesome! Thanks for taking to time to review and inform everyone.
Thanks for the test . That answered a lot of questions for me . Saving money is good but if you save $100 on radio/video and loose your plane what have you saved ?
Another GREAT VID.. @Alex ty, yet again you have helped me soo much with your videos. (u 2 flight test) You might not know it but UBINSOERATIONAL homie lol. and sometimes make a guy with very little moneys, feel like a king. And Saving some of us from wasting money... (I thought dragon link was the "only" way to go) sooooo thankful for not only the test but what you reiterate about how little power we actually need to fly...
compared to what's on the market, most of us thought 600 megawatts was needed to fly ur mini at first... yes noobs like me, but Ive still see a lot of people thinking the same way I was, until educated... I know now that even my 200mw transmitters are MORE than enough for my fpv mini quad purposes as I very rarely go more than a quarter mile away with a mini at least... But im pulling off my 600 vtx from the 450 because it's simply overpowered. Running a pixhawk I can't have any interference. Shared and shared again... Also very appreciated once again! Ty Alex, Joe + flight test crew. Please keep um coming! And please print shirts that say. "everything I need to know, I learned from flight test!" I need a XL! 😆
I noticed they backed up the brand they are funded with?
Chey Thompson
Well duh. How else are they supposed to pay for all these projects
The most explanatory episode ever thanks guys
Are all of these products shown only for control signal, or do they also have video?
Control signal only
Great video! I've been watching it for years,,,, In fact, Its been over two years and the OpenLRS shown in the video has not been available for almost that long. Hawkeye systems are not easy to find either making me skeptical of using one. People that have used them said they had to remove the system fairly often to update software and did not like that aspect. I wonder if things have settled down over time? I'm really interested in using OenLRS but quick update would be helpful.
Can you have a unit flying a certain distance away from you act as a relay for a plane flying really far away from you...acting as a bridge almost? How far could you get?
Alex just made the 50 shades of LRS. Beating and punishing these systems. So enthusiastic about it too!
@FliteTest could you all do a new LRS with the new updated systems or with the latest update in the same systems tested?
Great show guys. This just affirms how much I need to learn still. [goes to forum to look now]
Do these systems have "channels" or are they spread spectrum and no need for frequency flags if you are flying with other FPVrs?
Wasn't expecting this video, great job guys, flitetest and ibc = great info!
IB Crazy is the BEST on this show. Please get him back. IB crazy and you guys are my two favourites for fpv rc stuff and you ara amazing together!I
Wow, that Alex guy is super awesome. So enthusiastic and helpful!
Thank you and thank you for answering my reply on fpv However , lots of missing pieces on this subject . First thing is setting up everything , second is what antenna was used and the last thing is the device that ib crazy had in his hand . I really hope that you guys. Do not spot short. Of things on this subject. You guys are really on a point with this. Please. Please do not fall short on sharing things with us. And I would like to Thant you all for the information on fpv.
The higher the frequency, the shorter the range. Go for the lowest frequency allowed in your area. Antenna is key in an wireless.
So if staying close by is most fun would a DX7s work fine for most FPV flying? I guess I have taken some planes out pretty far LOS with it but still not sure of the actual range of it.
great info, was hoping flitetest would do an episode in UHF stuff , ty ibcrazy
Great video and thanks to IP crazy for those tests, this is great work and very easy to understand for someone like me that know very little, this is great work!. The only thing i wish you guys talked about is the penetration aspect of those system. It seam like a lot of people will choose uhf for the penetration it have through other objects (compare to other that don't have much penetration) like trees or wall, am i right?
I have my ham radio license and was sure that 1250 was an illegal frequency in US? so I Went with 910. any thoughts appreciated
Thanks Greg
Wow I really hope Alex comes on the show more.
awesome to see Alex Greve on here. Check out his Success in FPV series on youtube.
Thanks guys, this video disintegrated a lot of my tension!
Keep it flying!
was that the helmet rick moranis wore in honey i shrunk the kids, lol
Love the video you guys did a great job... however I think it was not made clear enough that this was essentially a LRS test on 1.2Ghz video. I have talked to many people now and they forget this was ONLY a test against 1.2Ghz video with different LRS systems. It would be nice if that was made a little more clear.
listen to IB Crazy at 19:45 or so... Definitely do NOT turn on either TRANSMITTER without an antenna! The attenuator goes on either the transmitter (video or LRS). He ONLY says to take the antenna off the RECEIVER.
what are the LCD screens are shown on the tripods during the tests. Looking to get one.
Great video, I've been waiting for someone to do a test like this for ages. Thank you!
Great episode guys... love Flitetest and IBcrazy
I wish that there was a comparison of RMILEC UHF system.
...and Rlink..... but hey, this video is almost a year old. It's once again surprising how many people have such negative comments in the US. Do it yourself if you know better, but at least praise these guys for what they do and how they are trying to help the RC community with very little means. If not, well...it's very simple, no ? Don't reply, don't comment ....
Phil Flyman oh, I wasn't referring to you Heli Freak, but to some others above ....
Could an older television set with the UHF channels some how tune into a FPV transmission?
Great video - and the fun is contagious!
Great video, funny that it's sponsored by fat shark, everywhere I've looked seems to be out of stock so respect to them for sponsoring FT without expecting to profit from it!
is it possible to view footage from a dslr thru the dragonlink while youre recording or do you need a seperate camera?
the ezyuhf is also the only unit with shielding, thats all that needs to be said. rf needs shielding.
Would you post the purchase link to those systems?
thanks
Clearly what is the best solution UHF quality / price ?
Love my rangelink/ lawmate 1.3 setup IB crazy helical SP antennas
This video just overflows with geekyness. I love this community.
+Nannerpuss Geekness is now the "New Cool"!
The actual shoot out that IBcrazy did just shows that he is certainly not RF "god" many make him out to be. The only thing the "shoot out" actually showed was how not to setup a LRS system. The way to test any type of RF is with measuring equipment not putting attenuators and removing antennas.
Lets look at what is complete BS in these test
- Removing an antenna off the TX or RX and basing things on range just shows how much leakage there is, technically the one with the least range this way is the best as 99.9% of the power will go out through the antenna so waste of time
-Using another UHF source and not changing it around then you might just be fortunate enough to get a frequency that does not affect the EZUHF but other mhz ranges would affect but not the others, were you using the EU frequency on the EZUHF but the US/INTL for the noise generator and other LRS units??? (The comment about the TSLRS and issues with towers is ridiculous when you are using 2 generations ago hardware, certainly is not an issue with either the v6 or v7 hardware)
- Latest firmware was used on EZUHF which was also the newest unit out, the rest of the units had older firmware and were old hardware units especially the TSLRS system which did not even have close to the current firmware or hardware. That is like going my latest model 2013 Porsche turbo is faster than your Lamborghini which when you look at it is only a 1990 Lamborghini Countach despite the fact the current Lamborghini is the Aventador. At the very least test the "current" models of the various LRS systems and better yet do the current firmware while you are at it.
- Attenuators make such a variation depending on the type of antenna connector to how tight the connector is done up and how well shielded the TX/RX's are (the less shielding on the RX/TX the less effect), you have to use the exact same attenuator which is very hard to do when the different systems have different antenna connectors.
- No details on what wattage outputs were use in the test, these range from 100mW through to 2000mW on these units so you who knows what wattage was being used and considering some of them have a min of 500mW and others have a max of 100mW you could not be possibly be comparing them evenly.
All in all this is simply just a misleading video about LRS systems that really has not practical benefit or relevance to anyone looking at LRS other than to mislead them!
"The point of this test is a real world one honestly".....really you think that...lol. Anyone taking an antenna off to show how well a unit works and thinking the one that works the best without its antenna is going to be the best does not understand RF and is certainly not doint "real world" testing. You can call the test anything you like, the fact of the matter is the test just shows how little is known by these guys about testing anything RF related and all it provides is a very misleading result with a bias to the unit that these guys are in bed with.....
At least there is one thing you can take away from this test and that is how not to setup for LR or FPV equipment.
I agree that the "test" was polluted unnecessarily. It could have been conducted with an APM quad running a GPS-driven course in each case. With telemetry, they'd know more or less exactly where each unit lost signal, and there would be no suspicion of impact from the ground, or any of the attenuation used.
Also, doing the test on an actual quad with telemetry in use would demonstrate any unforeseen issues due to the added equipment so many of us are likely to actually use.
Oh dear, the person who doesn't get that you never write an essay for a YT vid, because most people won't see past line 5
Quad Lawnmowerman can we get a tldr?
I'm confused with them using a servo for testing. Were they also testing control signals and not just FPV video signal?
They are using the servo to check the fidelity of the control signals at long distance. If you are losing "packets" of information, then the servo will be jerky instead of moving smoothly. Cheap and simple test!
Thanks for your listening.:)
iBcrazy should have used the popular 5.8GHz vTx for the video range testing where the range is less; I'm guessing he is not a fan of this frequency. But a great review one of the best. I use ImmersionRC gear, you can't fault it. I wonder if iBcrazy used the new recent ImmersionRC firmware updates?
What about some other frequencies for long range instead of just
Pardon my possibly silly question but what the heck is an "ATV tower"? I've never of such before.
I bought ezuhf based on this and it works great.
So what's the "ibcrazy" 1.3GHz/433GHz notch filter I bought for?
No problem with DragonLink and 5G8 video.
all depend your antenna, your rx must not below your tx + not covered by building or mountain. for long range suggest use parabolic dish antenna + tower plus using magnetic system can quietly help for gain critical signal :v
He does say remove antenna from RECEIVER but warning would be good.
Great video!!
Do you also know something about chainlink?
I just realized I don't know what I'm doing. Where's the remedial fpv room at? Great video.
lmao. tell me when you find it, I will join you.
This was in the air i testet it on the ground and had 300~350. Difficult to set up the transmitter between the interferences of 4 motors
IBcrazy talks about ultimate range testing without the antenna connected. It may be unclear to some viewers whether he meant having the transmitter or reciever antenna disconnected (at first I thought he meant the transmitter). NEVER run a transmitter without its antenna, people! You'll destroy it in moments, the your UHF transmitter becomes an expensive paperweight.
Can you guys work on a flying wing scratch build? I would really like to see that!
Confused, new to fpv and I'm finding transmitter reciever combos claiming 800meter range that cost 10% of all these 300+ ones your discussing only getting 50-100 meters. What's the deal?
read the spec sheets and they tell you why the EZUHF doesn't suffer interference. the EZUHF seems to be the only one that offers FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) most commonly found in Bluetooth.
So if I have an 800mW 1.3 system and I don't want to overpower an OpenLRS, would an attenuator help? If so what dB is optimal?
Is this 1000mW or 100mW version of Flytron Open LRS transmitter?
Great video but in germany we are only allowed to use 5,8 ghz(25mw) and 2,4 ghz(10mw) transmitters so long range fpv is very difficult and expensive.
how do you increase the range of your controller? Or will it perform at these distances regardless(quadcopter) I have a gemini, I want to know if I can upgrade these parts, and start some long range FPV/some more penetration.
Or if I broadcasted controls on 2.4, and video on 1.3. Would I get 1-2km's? Not looking for much, I just want to know the potential of the system. Know what I mean?
Awesome tests, great to Ssee Alex on here :-)
is it safe to put that many antennas near your head? Sure you don't make a habit of it. Great video, informative, and helps a bunch for someone in the FPV market right now, thanks!!
We need a few same episodes about antennas , (with iBcrazy) and of course Video Transmitters. Great Episode! Keep it up We love iBcrazy as well nice to see you together. Invite Trappy as well in the future if possible. That would be awsome.
Thanks Guyz EZUHF yesss.:D:P (Y)
Silly me, it is in your article.
Accidentally watched a 2011 video and noticed that David has gotten a lot chubbier in a few years. I hope your health is OK and stay active, you can just go for long walks or bicycle rides pal, works wonders!
