Woodland Wild Camp with Kent Survival. Tarp and Bivi. Ribs, Cornbread, Devilled Kidneys, Scones.

- In this video, I leave Norfolk and head off on a trip south to meet up with Andy from @Kent Survival in his woodland permission. We set up our shelters, Adirondack tarp shelter for me and hammock for him, before doing the other camp tasks and settling down to an evening of catching up, a rib and cornbread dinner, a few beers and a few laughs. The morning brings fine weather and a chance to enjoy the beautiful woodland, followed by a breakfast of devilled kidneys and scones (my take on biscuits and gravy).

I think the deflation issue was my own fault - I didn’t fasten the valve properly!

Scone Recipe
200g self raising flour
50g butter
1 tbsp sugar
Pinch of salt
125ml whole milk
Rub the butter into there flour until you have a breadcrumb consistency
Mix in the sugar and salt
Gradually mix in the milk until you have a dough that doesn’t stick to your fingers
Flatten into a rough square about 4cm this (1” 1/2) and score into four portions
Bake for 15 minutes (200 degrees C) a bit longer in a reflector oven.
Devilled Kidneys Recipe
4-6 lambs kidneys, roughly chopped
1 onion, diced
Handful of plain flour
Salt and pepper (for seasoning the flour)
1 tbsp English mustard
1 tbsp Tomato puree
1 tbsp Worcester source
300ml water
Butter for frying
Coat the kidneys in the seasoned flour
Fry the onions until softened
Add the kidneys and brown off
Add the mustard, puree and workester sauce
Gradually pour in the water
Cook for 10 minutes until the kidneys are cooked through and the sauce has thickened

Being in lock-down here in Victoria, Australia and unable to travel further than five kilometres from our home makes getting away for even an over nighter, is fraught with difficulties and heavy fines! We have to be in by eight PM. NO JOKE! So it was good to see you two in front of the fire tucking into some very fine cuisine and brew. Thank you boys.

Two of my favorite TH-camrs together. I watched Andy’s version first, then this one. Then watched it again to get the recipe for deviled kidneys. And just because I liked the video so much. Great fun! I’ve never had kidneys before- they aren’t a breakfast thing in the US but now I’m gonna try them. With scones. Yum.

I watch the full 42.5 minutes of this video taking in all the lovely food you both did, enjoying the Bushcraft work around camp and I actually realised why you both get on so well. You actually washed up all the pots after Andy grafted and cooked the tea (dinner) 😱. That’s it now, anyone who I cook for on my camps now as to wash up!! 😂.

Great videos from you both again! 👍 The double IPA was heavily hopped with columbus, plus centennial and chinook, which gives it a dank, almost licqourish taste- I wonder if that was what Andy was pondering when he sipped it? To me a Double Ipa is just a beefed up IPA- more hops to balance the higher alcohol content. Malt takes more of a back seat but i did use Golden promise malt to add a bit of body whilst mashing at a low temp to keep it dry also. The other beer was a nutty, strong, maltier bitter using East Kent Goldings hops and marris otter, caramel and a bit of Munich malt.
Mate, they were truly delicious! You are a brewing wizard!! That double IPA is possibly the nicest beer I’ve ever drunk! Thanks Ollie!

Andy just dumps in some milk...no measure and it comes out perfect. Good job...it looks spectacular. It must be wonderful to sleep on the ground and not worry about canebreak rattlers, coral snakes, copperheads and cotton mouths climbing in the sack with you.....nor wild boars or bears to contend with. It must be nice.

Nice rib dinner.....my favorite..... I enjoy my Dutch oven North Country whiskey Ribs.....8-10 bone in country style ribs, 3 cups barbeque sauce, 3 cups brown sugar, 2 cups Jack Daniels, salt and pepper to taste. Portions work well in a number 12 Lodge. Save the left over mixture for left overs the day or freeze to use again for another batch at a later date. Oops, off the the meat market. My taste buds are calling.

I had to laugh Simon,,,we all have had the air matress fail...and we did the same thing...roll over and suffer the rest if the night...lol
As a newbie camper, I didn't realized how important was to pick a flat ground to set up camp. In the middle of the night, I was sliding away from my sleeping pad , good thing I had the 2 person tent and it was only me. I was still too lazy to find a flat ground the next day 🤭 I wanted to stay under a pine tree and face a cause garden
I love it when you find a new channel and they have loads of videos to just binge on. Love in the Landy. I remember having to put a new chassis on one of these things in my old panel beating days. My dream car. I’d have an old Landy over a Lamborghini any day of the week.

Hahaha - not everybody’s taste, but delicious in my book - offal used to be eaten much more often, but tastes have changed - the bonus for me is that it’s much cheaper than the popular cuts of meat. 😁
Although I do like to see Mags enjoying the outdoors, I will say that watching a couple of tipsy blokes catch up in the woods while making a delicious dinner is most entertaining. Stay well and thanks for the video.

I love this. I’ve watched so many videos of men in the woods that just go in the tents but they are alone because they are so intent on making their own videos. And I think why? You are men have a beer and eat meat around the campfire. So pleased to see this other than men getting together and staying in their own tents and cooking their own dinners.

Starting at about 21:29, Simon sitting there with that hat and the way the light hits it, looks like a big mouse, sitting there eating those ribs. Just adorable! Love it. I laugh every time I watch his video at that point.

Simon, if you look at when you're putting your sleeping mat into your bivvy bag (5.07ish), you can see that you've left a bung out. That's why the mat deflated!
That bung is for the secondary air chamber. It has two independent chambers, one used as a backup in case the first one gets punctured.
