- The oldschool runescape market has been on the decline for most of 2021. However, for the first time in a while the economy is showing some signs of life. Most items have surged in price ever since late august. Today I am going to be covering why I think this has happened.
There are a lot of factors that affect the osrs market. One of the biggest ones are player counts, and new content. As always this is just my opinoin and not meant to be investing advise. I will be covering a lot of big picture stuff today, but I'll also be looking at a few individual items.

Thats why dyes and ornament kits could have changed osrs economy for good by making items untradeable.
tbh if they give ornament kits like +1 stats over the non ornament items but require the item to never be able to remove the ornament people would invest in those. Making the items untradeable without breaking the game from the +1 extra stats.
People would then say we'll more people would just use them in pvp and have no risk but you could tie a price to repair the item like other untradeables.
@@MacaroniMan_ Nah, just make them lose it in PvP but the killer receives only 50% of what the untradeable's were valued at. The value would be in "item fragments." For example, each item takes 100 fragments to put together for a complete variant of it (could also stick a skill level to this too if you wanted). This would allow for item sinking as well as not bringing gold into the game. So, therefore, only item sinking and a massive penalty for trying to cash out your untradable gear. It'd also have to be higher than +1 or no one would use it for a soulbound penalty. (Fragments are already something that existed in RS2, and I feel would work nicely with item sinking more soulbound items.) I'm a massive fan of item/gold sinks in games..
Don't get me started on duel arena tax increase and G.E. tax implementation! ;)
It would also lower the amount of phishing and scamming since there would be less things to steal from people
@@MacaroniMan_ this is flawed, would have the same effect as rigour and augury. It would be fine for a year then be cheap and worth nothing because there’s too many and everyone has it
@@oNickSterrrHD you misread, he said the kit would make the item inconvertible _and_ untradeable. Even if the price of the kit tanked to 1gp it would still effectively remove the piece of gear that it was applied to from the game. However, with that in mind I think people would be a little hesitant on applying the kit since they could no longer swap out their gear for other stuff.

I wouldn't trust this... You better sell if you're taking an extended break. I left for around 8 months and come back to bank 100m less.

I think this is the DMM effect, where everyone wants to sell their items for DMM GP, and now that people are done getting their items and stats in DMM, they are rebuying items. I imagine after the tournament, prices will spike significantly.
Good theory but are there that many dmm players to make such a big impact?

My theory is a lot of people swapped out of dmm so that couldve affected the market a lot . Most of the buyers in dmm have billions in main game

Of course after a year of holding items that lost half their value, then i sell them and they start to go up right after

I may have had a lot to do with the price of Zenytes, at least initially.
About a week ago, I noticed that someone randomly sold a tormented bracelet for 2m over the normal price (was 9m, sold for 11m). I thought nothing of it until the price of the bracelet never went all the way back down and stabilized close to 10.5m about 45 minutes later. I then bought out the entire zenyte shard, uncut zenyte, and cut zenyte market that entire night (approximately 60 total) to make into bracelets for profit. The next day, zenyte shards were selling for 9.5m minimum.

Its actually the opposite for school time. It's just the DMM effect. It happens every time, nothing more. December will start the vacation/winter surge as well as Raids 3 surge. If one starts too soon for these items, it'll just lead to an unsteady rise where it goes up/down within a short time (ie, the Raids 3 news). Normally items start crashing Jan 10-20th due to school starting back up again, but if Raids 3 releases in Jan, we could see some funky stats this winter with item graphs.
A lot of supplies have dropped and demand has gone up due to ppl being gone either way correct?

Is there potential that what we're seeing is partially from a reduction of gold farmers in the game? Hermano mentioned in one of his recent videos that Venezuelan gold farmers have their eye on a new game that has better payout potential than OSRS, so they're considering jumping ship. Not sure what the timeline on that looks like, but could already be happening.
The Dragon Crossbow only went up because the blowpipe got nerfed. All items are bound to go down in value unless they degrade OR we add new players to the player base..
More players is just a temporary fix. Can't expect people to continuously join and reach late game at the rate old players along with new players get these items.
I think a lot of people swapped gp at the start of the deadman and made a lot of money. Meaning a bunch of money changed hands and most likely it went from rich people to poorer folks, meaning they now can afford gear which earlier they couldn't, demand rises and this reflects in the prices of PVM items

I'm surprised you didn't mention swapping. Top PvPers have been forced to swap significant portions of their wealth to PvMers for DMM, thus causing useful PvM and skilling items to increase in price.
Do you think increase in high tier PVM items is due to DMM swapping?

It does tend to put some cash in the hands of poorer players, who don't have all the higher end stuff yet. This may go some way into explaining this trend.

you should get into talking about prices of the 3rd age druidic and pick axe. their prices fluctuate a lot and people make lots of money flipping them. also it's hard to find places where you can get their prices accurately.
Where do people buy and sell these items? Ive been looking around and cant find any info on where things that cant trade over the GE are traded.
Been gone for a while but knew that the market had crashed. Logged on yesterday and was very surprised to buy a DHL for 45m.

I've been bulk flipping in F2P all summer and in the past few days the price of coal has dropped from 180-200 to 140-160. I have no idea why but I hope it goes back up soon because I just happened to put a significant amount of my gp into it just before it crashed

It sounds dumb to say this but.. people returning might have helped. A lot of wow refugees like myself were rs/osrs players and have returned because of the shit happening with blizzard.
And my bank is like 300m ish so bought some gear ect.
Really curious why you didn’t mention the potential gold dupe (dupe would have only been gold/tokens since they happened on f2p worlds) as the source of this kind of gold inflation. If every item, even basic skilling supplies, is going up in value that means the value of gold is probably going down and we’re experiencing inflation.
I kinda think it’s dangerous to not mention the dupe. Are you just trying to keep spirits high?

When new pvm content is released the need for items is increased which then increases the price of items.

He forgot to talk about the HD Client blog where they shut down a guy that worked 2 years to release an HD client for us on runelite just so Jagex can release theirs in like a year or two from now. So sad to see!
Runelite will gone within a year also.
They simply didn't want it anymore. No where on the internet does it mention about jagex confirming they will definitely implement it. We got a date for it but they've had some idea changes in the process. It was their choice to start this project knowing full well they'd be working with the likes of jagex... Also jagex has allowed that same team to produce another client which they cleared and you probably use to make the game easier for yourself because you're shit. You all then riot to a game company over a hd client forcing them change there mind because lets face it you guys WILL actually walk away from the game because you're sad (like when EoC came out, point proven) it's a fucking HD client who gives a shiny fucking shit. 🤦🏻♂️ And then people are like "but it will help grow the community' no the community has divided itself once again and any new player coming into the game is just going to have to face that toxicity and have no clue why everyone's being toxic as they are new .. yeah great community building riots you lot did.. smfh 🤷🏻♂️

Ok I think this is all because of dead man mode, it is the best money maker in the game (I personally made 250m in a week hunting black chins for 14m an hour on 3 accounts) I went from a 250m bank to having close to 500m and with that money I have bought some high level gear. I’m sure this is what is going on.

Why do you explain how the bell icon works. It's obvious that when you subscribe, it will put your subscriptions front youtube menu. Bell just gives you a notification when something new comes out. It would be super annoying to get a notification for every single channel you're subscribed to, just let us see them in the recommended videos section.

Prices going up due to inflation, many coins glitched into the game.
Is there a bear market on the runescape economy? Whales dumping rares to buy for lower, while pumping pvm gear prices to slowly sell with profit during the winter times when player counts shoot up.

DMM was such a great cash as well that many people made a bank and was able to buy the gear they wanted increasing the demand. Not to mention the amount of people playing DMM means fever people are bringing items to main game.
Im not sure if along dying items there could be stuff like combining armor for new kind of set. Lets say you put together justiciar and third age set for third age looking set or twisted bow and third age bow to make it have more distinct features and make them all untradeble.
I think 'cosmetics' is a boogieman OSRS needs to overcome, it doesnt mean it has to be like its in RS3 that you cant literally tell what someone is wearing but just make the gears more look unique by combinations and maybe give some miniscule prayer bonus as a benefit.

Honestly boys, lets be real... Eco is only up because all the bots are botting deadman mode and trading for osrs gp for higher than 1:1. I've been trying to explain eco increase to myself but I feel this is the real reason.

This happens every dmm bro its obvious ppl swap and non dmm players stock up on these items sold off for dmm gp and raise the prices this would stop if they made bank caps like a salary cap
My opinion its neither DMM or raids 3 causing the rise. its GIM. People that made money from DMM are usually veterans and veterans are already rich. Raids 3 is very far away, no one is gearing or merching for it now especially because when Leagues come everything will crash. For me its GIM because people are doing more PvM so they don't suck when GIM comes out.
Selling gear the night before GIM and buying a day or two after is free money
@@Swan584 Personally I would get out now. Keep only the gear you need for whatever your doing currently. You may leave some profit on the table but alot of people will be selling off their gear for GIM so their gp don't lose value and waiting untill the last day is very risky. Worst case scenario it keeps rising but in 2-3 months time it will crash with leagues.

Imo who cares if every bis tanks to 10k just implement more resource sinks like runes scales and so on then adjust the boss table to give a decent drop from resources.
