Unity started to fall apart around 2018-ish when they started hiring a lot of ex-Microsoft and ex-Amazon employees and it became a corporate hellscape instead of the nimble startup it had been.
@@Oasics95 is it though? Even though the runtime is gone now, at the time it was definitely the best option if you didn‘t want to fall into the pricing issue for Unity. Even now, I still think Godot is a better start for game development and uses Scripting like Unity while Unreal is simply better for 3D game development and since UE5 Unreal has the best audio system (something I really care about). I still don‘t see the „very bad advice“.
Actually 10% game devs - according to his 'opinion' - is most professional game devs because most of the Unity users are hobbyists, students and extremly small scale studios.
To explain why they bought Weta Digital, Unity doubles as both a game engine and a 3d animation engine (kinda like Unreal Engine) so it's possible that they were looking into making the 3d animation side of their company stronger to compete with Unreal. I don't really know if Weta Digital has designed any form of 3d software but that's the only possibility I can think of.
Yeah, I think the thought process behind it was that they wanted to expand beyond game development. I know Unreal has a lot of virtual production capabilities and is used in a lot of productions. But I feel like Unity had a really strong grasp on the game dev space. To me it just didn't make sense to want to expand to more, when you have a strong market already that you're underutilizing.
@@VerasStudios unity side of game dev is trash.... Mostly mobile game with so little revenue and quality, up till the point when you see made with unity logo upront, you know that just trashy game
I just installed Unity on my windows 10 today and the performance was so CRAPPY, I uninstalled it after an hour or so. How can creating an EMPTY project take like 2 minutes to load? There is basically NOTHING in there. It wouldn't even load my texture pack which I wanted to start with.... How anyone can use such a stupid program is beyond my understanding.
Not defending unity, but tbh if you think a complex game engine shouldnt take time to load, then ur just really bad at computers, if you want game engines to load instantly, then i recommend you making your own game engine using any open graphics library that's out there, they will load instantly.
@@folkenberger No. Godot is even better (as utility) than Unity despite creating an empty project instantly even from a decade old PC. That's just fault of Unity. Even my current project that contains a million tris load only takes several seconds.
Unity is great engine, just crap at marketing. Arguably, it has some of the best features, platforms and lowest price. They're just bad at telling people that.

Even after Unity revoked their policy, I don‘t trust the company at all anymore. Advice for everyone: Learn Godot for 2D or Unreal for 3D anyways.
That's an opinion, and very bad advice.

Bro is a bit late to the party tbh.

This video is so well made that I couldn't help but leave this comment halfway through, it deserves to be seen by more people!
Who'd've thought that retroactively applying disgusting pricing changes would ruin any small but trust devs had in unity.
Yeah, it wasn't the best move
The video is really good, i like the editing !
Thank you so much!
Man, if I knew Unity's CEO was the same CEO that ruined Bioware, I would've started with Unreal xD
@Veras Studios, At T:0:9:59, I believe that is the walking bridge in Chattanooga, TN, that crosses the Tennessee River. Am I correct?
Mmmm not sure where that protest took place
ayo great vid, thought ur channer was bigger until a view your subs count, keep up the great work 👄
Appreciate it!
Never knew the backstory of unity, but I never liked it, it always gave me a mehh feeling, and I know why now.. It was originally made for Apple 🤗
lol

Not really. Unreal has also a huge support of platforms, and it has better features, and a better pricing scheme.
