These settings will work on PCSX2 2.0.x as it was recently released. This tutorial is still relevant by the time of this comment, so there is no need to make an updated tutorial yet. Update: for those of you having trouble with slowdowns on night/dusk tracks, it’s caused by the alpha texture from light flares. Google “GitHub theadmiester GT4 cheats” and you can find a catalog of PCSX2 cheats. Get the ones that disable every type of light flare.
Do you have any advice for setting up the controller? In GT4 there is a huge deadzone - it takes a while in some cars to register the motion and then they suddenly snap, which causes me to countersteer and then i spin out. I tried a very small deadzone in the settings and then working my way up to 26. I also tried sensitivit from 90 to 140 but it never feels right in GT4. DTM Racedriver is working fine with the defaults, same with other games. Just GT4 seems to react differently to inputs. It never feels right :/
It’s crazy how far PCSX2 emulation has come over the past couple of years, especially with Gran Turismo 4. I remember there was a time where I could just about run the game but with a bunch of visual bugs and a whole lot of stuttering. Now running GT4 with all the patches and textures replacements is like playing a full blown remaster.
Just wanna say big kudos to the developers who are working on this emulator in their spare time for the good of the public. I've followed the previous guide and now looking how much progress emulator has made and that you can basically switch back most of the settings to the default one's is actually impressive thing to see to my nerdy eyes. It was frustrating changing the clamping modes and all that preserve sign thingies just because you were playing licenses and then switch back, and even with all that, the game still could freeze up completely.
For those on controller, you probably want to set Analog Sensitivity to 100% down from 133% to make it way less shaky. Tested it with both a DualShock 4 and a DualSense so the tooltip is probably inaccurate. You can test if your sticks reach the edges with jbits ps2 controller tester.
Never could smoothly run GT4 before, but your settings really nailed it! Running the GT4 Spec II mod and it works perfectly, up to 4k with 60fps on my M1 Pro Macbook with Metal, pcsx2 v2.0.2. Thanks for sharing this!
Quick note on dithering, the graphical glitches you see before you turn dithering off only appear if the game video output is set to Progressive (480p). When its set to normal, which the game automatically sets it to when you reboot it, the glitches are not there and changing dithering does nothing. Another note, I'm using OpenGL, so it may just be that.
You missed an important bit imo at 5:15 because changing hardware download mode can give you a huge boost in fps at night races but it breaks car images in split times or B-Spec mode
Great video! Helped my learn the ropes too to RPCSX2. I didn't know where the advanced commands were, and was getting crashes when any race would start. In my case running in Linux, I had to check off (disable) the "Enable Multithreaded VU1 (MTVU)" option. Game runs great now in 1080 60fps.

Dude this game was looking like ass for me for years, I would always go back to it but couldn't play it because of the weird double image blurry thing I was getting. Hey @RowdyGT , great video as always. I know you're not tech support, but after applying the settings you showed here in your video, the opponent text when playing online has bugged out. It’s not 1080p. Instead it calls itself 1080i (interlaced) but is actually at a much lower resolution than stated. For PCSX2, the in-game resolution option does not matter. You just want to run progressive scan which the 480 option uses and not interlacing which is what “1080” uses. PCSX2 will take care of the resolution upscaling for you

The Spec II mod has better analog trigger sensitivity built in. If you aren't using that, then you'll need to find a trigger sensitivity pcsx2 cheat/pnach
Hi Rowdy, Do you know why my game runs stable at 60 fps for the majority of time, but occasionally during very specific situations, it'll go down to exactly 30 fps and feel like it's all in slow motion (including the audio). It happens in tunnels on the special stage track (i think it's called), when looking behind you with a few cars chasing you, and a couple other instances. It doesn't feel like a traditional FPS drop, as it goes from exactly 60 fps to 30. I'm playing on a Macbook Pro with the new M3 chip. Thanks!
Currently using AetherSX2 on my MacBook Pro M1. I followed your guide for everything other than using Metal for rendering because this seems to work best for me. I still have a lot of slow down especially on the night and evening races. Could this be the lighting bug you talked about in the video? I'm currently playing the spec II version.
I also experience massive slow down in night races, but you can eliminate the slow down by changing Hardware Download Mode to "Disable Readbacks" in PCSX2 (I don't know if AetherSX2 has a similar option). Tested on MBA M1. But doing this caused some minor glitches (like breaking car images in split times), apart from that everything is running smoothly so far. Hope this helps
@bleuazurjuillet3419 actually don’t do that. There cheats to disable light flares which cause the slowdowns. Look up “GitHub TheAdmiester” on Google and it’ll take you to his page where the cheats are
@@RowdyGT oh didn't know that, i definitely will try those cheats, thank you! btw is there a specific reason to not change the Hardware Download Mode option?
Howdy Rowdy, quick question. My G29 gets recognized and all bindings work, but there's one issue I'm having: the wheel twitches, making it impossible to handle any car in a straight line, and let's not even talk about turning. I changed all in-game settings and tried several combinations but no luck. I can't even drive a damn Demio, lol. Am I doing something wrong? EDIT: i don't know how, but it's working perfectly now. Enabled SDL raw input, disabled DS2 slot 1, did all binds again, and there's no more twitching. In-game steering is on Simulator, even.

Anyone got a controller sensitivity issue using PCSX2? changing the values in the settings doesn't seem to fix this and makes playing GT4 uncontrollable
I have a problem where I can use my wheel fine but when I use a controller the left analogue stick won't turn the car, despite still being able to navigate menus with it. Is there a known solution for this issue?
Hi @RowdyGT great video! thank you for the tips. I find that when i connect my wheel using the same build of PCSX2 the force feedback randomly cuts up from time to time, is this something you have experinced or know how to get around? I know you arent tech support, but finding info on this bug is pretty limited. Thanks for the content and keep it up!
Very thorough guides, nice. But weird how mine displayed the game stretched horizontally like it was 4:3 but stretched to 16:9. I have the exact same settings with yours but at the Screen menu where to set Progressive (480p), I noticed that my text are stretched unlike yours in the video. Any idea how to fix this? I tried changing the display to standard 4:3 and it displayed normally.
@@RowdyGT I did.. like I said, it's the exact same with your settings in the video. Anyway, I just added the texture mod and things looking much better.. no longer looking stretched except for the menu. I guess I'll try the other mod as well and see if it fixes the stretched UI.
Hi, I'm kinda new with this emulator things. Do you put GT4 Retexture and HUD Retexture in a same folder, so both can be applied to the game or you have to choose one of them? Thanks
What about setting a controller because I heard PS2 has pressure sensitive buttons, so I want to use my triggers instead for acceleration and braking is there any way to do that?
So I've set up everything and I was interested in installing the texture pack, but under the "Texture Replacement" section there is no directory and no way to select one. That entire "search directory" box just does not exist for me. Anything I can do? I have created a textures folder already by clicking the dump thingy and I've downloaded the textures and put them in there. Just not sure how to apply them. Would be super grateful for any pointers 😊
@@R_-tb2vv Yeah I gave up after a few hours of trying to fix it and just played the game with its original graphics. There just doesn't seem to be a way to do it. I would like some help. My video settings are the same as Rowdy's, and I have installed both texture packs (for cars and HUD). Everything loaded normal, as far as I know. However, the textures during the race are still blurry, very different from the video. Is it a hardware issue? I use a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700 CPU, 16Gb of RAM and a RTX 4060Ti. 2 things: Make sure the 480p actually gets enabled. If you change it and leave the options by pressing triangle instead of Ok then it won’t set. Also check if your deinterlacing setting in PCSX2 is set to automatic
Hello! I have probably a dumb question... I have set all the controls on my logitech g29 steering wheel except for the force feedback. How do I add the command? Furthermore, is it possible to set the manual gearbox controls by also adding the H gearbox?
Honestly I’m not even sure what the FFB bind even does but I set it to the PlayStation home button anyway. I think it’s just to tell PCSX2 what to send the FFB signal to or something. However, it seems like the recent PCSX2 builds from the past couple weeks have been having issues with FFB cutting out randomly or not working at all. Haven’t fully confirmed that yet though, but I have been having those issues. As for the H pattern GT4 has no support for that or a clutch, so it’s paddle shifting only
@RowdyGT Thank you! Tonight I'll try to press the ps button to set the force feedback and I'll let you know. I also encountered 2 minor problems. the first concerns the pedal of the brake too sensitive. As soon as I press the pedal, the car brakes at maximum and I have to be really sensitive with my foot to dose the brake and I would like to reduce the intensity of the input. the second instead concerns the game itself which occasionally (but not too much) freezes and then recovers immediately afterwards.
Used the deinterlacing patch on the PAL version. However for some reason there is some flickery in the sky plus some CRT like lines in all of the text. It is normal or does it had a fix?
thank you :D i still have some lag with the cars in the menus assuming its the emulator hopefully they fix that. every thing else mainly runs fine I'm using a 1050ti witch works well kind of and a amd rizon 5600x. i do have some lag with random parts of the maps but nothing game breaking and i can do 2k with that gpu way better then 480 p or what ever the native res is

Do you know why my game runs stable at 60 fps for the majority of time, but occasionally during very specific situations, it'll go down to exactly 30 fps and feel like it's all in slow motion (including the audio).
Excelent tutorial, thank's a lot
Your lights still cut textures :( do you know of a fix for this? Gtreat video btw!!
hello, First, thank you for your tutos on GT4 . . . you learn to me how to enjoy my old favorite game !
have you ever a patch or a mod to have the needle hud in pursuit vieuw ? the same hud than in GT3 GT2 and GT1 . . . ???
Yo can someone please help? My Gt4 is not producing even if i put that volume at high its still has low audio
Looks way better than before but the game still looks blurry specially the nearer textures (like the car)
game runs fine but replays can't be saved (crashes the game) and the game can't make ghost runs of your car work, any info on issues like that? first time trying the game this way
Anyone got a controller sensitivity issue using PCSX2? changing the values in the settings doesn't seem to fix this and makes playing GT4 uncontrollable
Try the Spec II mod, I haven't had any issues with GT4 since using that
Ahem. I like Enthusia more than GT4!
Still, thanks for the guide, and FYI there's a way to run the game at native 120FPS ;-)
Never heard of a 120fps patch and can’t find any examples, where’d you see it?
Hi man. Thanks for the video. Which is the minimum requirement for a gpu to run GT4 with these settings? I’d like to see the game in full HD.
thanks friend! My setup is good enough for run the emulator, but im experiencing stutterings and frame time oscilation. How can I fix it?
Thank you! how good is this ❤
Hi, i have huge lag when the sun is on the screen. Anybody know a fix? Pcsx2 2.0.2
where to put the interlacing patch file?
I have a problem where I can use my wheel fine but when I use a controller the left analogue stick won't turn the car, despite still being able to navigate menus with it. Is there a known solution for this issue?
Hi @RowdyGT great video! thank you for the tips. I find that when i connect my wheel using the same build of PCSX2 the force feedback randomly cuts up from time to time, is this something you have experinced or know how to get around? I know you arent tech support, but finding info on this bug is pretty limited. Thanks for the content and keep it up!
tried the no interlacing patch for eu version, cars are still blurry
there is a "cheat" that forces the game to put the 480i without the need to go to the menu
You have to set it to 16:9 in the screen settings and in PCSX2
@@RowdyGT I did.. like I said, it's the exact same with your settings in the video.
Anyway, I just added the texture mod and things looking much better.. no longer looking stretched except for the menu. I guess I'll try the other mod as well and see if it fixes the stretched UI.
Thank you! But how do i fix the input lag from my controller?
Hi, I'm kinda new with this emulator things. Do you put GT4 Retexture and HUD Retexture in a same folder, so both can be applied to the game or you have to choose one of them? Thanks
Hoping to find an answer in here to fps drops in the game . Keep getting it in menus especially
Open task manager and look at your CPU threads and GPU 3D rendering. Is anything topping out at 100% during these slowdowns?
@@RowdyGT I’ll check it out , thanks !
@@RowdyGT so far finding nothing . Only the emulator running at 10%. Everything else is low
@@RowdyGT memory is high , around 95%
Strange, I’ve never had issues with memory. Must be a recent problem
What about setting a controller because I heard PS2 has pressure sensitive buttons, so I want to use my triggers instead for acceleration and braking is there any way to do that?
map the right trigger to right stick up and the left trigger to right stick down
no matter what setting i use, in game they are the default. any idea why they don't apply?
Is there a way to adjut the trigger sens ? it is way to sensible and even switching deadzone is the option dosnt change that
Controller Port 1 > Settings > Analog Sensitivity. I don't have any recommendations for it though since I hardly plan on controller
my PC can run GT3 smoothly but GT4 always experiences frame drops, what's wrong with this game?
So I've set up everything and I was interested in installing the texture pack, but under the "Texture Replacement" section there is no directory and no way to select one. That entire "search directory" box just does not exist for me. Anything I can do? I have created a textures folder already by clicking the dump thingy and I've downloaded the textures and put them in there. Just not sure how to apply them. Would be super grateful for any pointers 😊
Check the “load textures” box
@@RowdyGT It's checked, nothing shows up :(
the search box doesn't exist for me either.... the check box for load textures is there. but no way of searching and selecting the folder you want
@@R_-tb2vv Yeah I gave up after a few hours of trying to fix it and just played the game with its original graphics. There just doesn't seem to be a way to do it. Wish this would be addressed with a pinned comment but I don't have any hopes for that. I wish you the best of luck in finding a fix! Playing through the game with the original graphics is still an awesome experience!
i came here because a replay got so messed up the only thing that wasnt rainbow in it was my black celica
Can we use Spec II patch iso + HD texture emulation?
Where do I place the patch?
When PCSX2 will fix the annoying light flickering will make a beer fest!!
It’s been fixed for a while now
I would like some help.
Any advice to improve the graphic quality? Thanks!
have you turned on the 480p setting (NTSC) or used the de-interlacing patch (PAL) ?
@@s0lsticefr4 I'm having the same issue and i'm using the 480 progressive setting. everything looks great until i get into a race and it all looks fuzzy
2 things:
Make sure the 480p actually gets enabled. If you change it and leave the options by pressing triangle instead of Ok then it won’t set.
Also check if your deinterlacing setting in PCSX2 is set to automatic
@@RowdyGT thanks! I feel silly but i just reset the game and it was fixed. Mustve had something wrong originally lol
@@RowdyGT Thanks! The 480p was disabled, which is a bit tricky because I have changed before. Problem fixed!

Make sure your wheel is in SDL input, mine didn't have FFB in DInput
Used the deinterlacing patch on the PAL version. However for some reason there is some flickery in the sky plus some CRT like lines in all of the text. It is normal or does it had a fix?
Not sure, I have not touched the PAL version in years
thank you :D i still have some lag with the cars in the menus assuming its the emulator hopefully they fix that. every thing else mainly runs fine I'm using a 1050ti witch works well kind of and a amd rizon 5600x. i do have some lag with random parts of the maps but nothing game breaking and i can do 2k with that gpu way better then 480 p or what ever the native res is
Hi man, very good video, but i have a problem with the patchs, when i put one patch on the "patches" folder and go to the Pcsx2 patchs screen, there dont, only the 16:9 widescreen option appears for activate. Do you know why this happens?
From already thank you very much! Greetings from Argentina :D (Sorry for my bad English, I hope you understand what I mean xd)
I don’t think cheats/patches from a .pnach file will show up in PCSX2 itself
Changes my settings and now it just crashes when trying to do the license tests. Yikes! Lol lots to learn
Clamping mode setting is wrong. For current versions, the default setting is the only ones you need. Make a backup of your save before you change it as it has corrupted saves in some cases
Hey, do you know why my game stutters a lot when i load a car, a track or a license test?
Does anyone know how to get my Ts PC Racer working with gt4? I cant get it to work. 😭
I've got the same wheel, pretty sure I had it working perfectly last time I played, unless that was my older T150. If you want me to try for you again I can.
tried it in my laptop
gtx1060 6gb
16gb ram
i5 7th gen
i got 30 fps at most, at 1080p, looks a bit blurry, i guess i will play it when i got a new gaming pc
even after picking fullscreen mode it still shows as window version
Hola bro.
How about license test cant run demo when clamping set to default? Does this setting fixes that issue?
If you are playing any version of GT4 Online, the demos don’t work on any of them regardless of settings or mods
@@RowdyGT hmm.. currently i don't play any online modes at all, only the GT mode (single player). Is there any setting or perhaps mods/patch that fixes the issue?
Actually now that I think about it, I don’t think any demo replays work on emulators regardless of the version of GT4 you have. Might just be something that can’t be dealt with unfortunately
@@RowdyGT okay then, maybe it'll be fixed in the future, we'll see about that. :D
Anyway, thanks for the reply brother, appreciate it. 👍🏼
Great video
My game won't launch with these settings or default, it just black screens after the copyright notice :(
Nobody else has had the problem so far so idk what to tell you other than double check your settings
@@RowdyGT maybe under this video but if you Google it there's other people with the problem. I had a bad .iso but it's fixed now.
can we fix the ghosts? they are stuck..
If i use gt4 USA version do i need a deinterlacing patch? I ask you because it seems to me that the one you linked should be used for PAL users only…
Can i ask you why you use GT4 online public beta instead of USA normal version?
He said the patch is only for pal, ntsc don’t need it
what are your ingame picture settings?
the use of a 8bitdo ultimate controller should work right?
But how to get an iso data not illegal i dont want an instruction i just wanna know i have my PS2 my GT4 disc and now?
Cd romance
what version is better for emulation? USA GT4 or EU one? im asking cause on ps2 normally europe versions of games run worse and im wondering if this happens with GT4 too
EU=50fps USA-60fps. EU is a better option for people with weak pcs because you won't have to reach a higher framerate to get full speed gameplay.
Working great on AsusZenbook 4 oled with core ultra 7 with internal gpu
How to fix flickering sun and lights?
It’s the most bizarre thing ever, but certain internal resolution options will fix it. I know the X.5 ones fix them, but I think odd number multipliers do as well but I can’t say for sure. I use 7x and still see the problem from time to time though
Drawn out ass video 🔥🔥
I passed the licenses without ghosts because they didn’t move and I don’t know why that is
Same did you ever fix the ghosts?
@@ozywozyroby any update? trying to do everything gold but it's almost impossible without ghosts
