  • In this vlog, we welcome Jason Derulo & Jena Frumes to the ranch whose Belgian Malinois, Ghost, won't stop pulling on the leash.
    Timecodes:
    00:30 - Introduction
01:35 - The Belgian Malinois and the importance of giving a dog a job
02:42 - How to NOT use a leash properly
03:45 - What a leash should mean to a dog
04:24 - Importance of Trust, Respect, and Love
05:17 - How to Stop Dog Lunging
08:16 - Introducing the Treadmill to Ghost!
We go over the importance of exercise, knowing which tools to use to create the outcome you want, and one creative way to exercise your dogs using the treadmill!
Watch how I am able to address this issue and be sure to stay tuned for my new show premiering July 30, 2021 on National Geographic.
Remember, the most fundamental lesson is that it’s important to be aware of the state of mind of your dog and YOU!
Pay attention to your posture and how you lead your dog. What is causing leash pulling or your dog from barking too much? What are the triggers?
    In the end is always…
    Exercise, Discipline, Affection!
Can I Help Solve this Case?

I have a Belgian malinois. I spent 8 months watching everything I could about them before I got one. I socialised her from a very young pup and exercise her 3 - 5 times a day. Lots of training also. I think a Belgian malinois is a lifestyle rather than a pet. My dog is amazing and so smart, loyal and loving but I could imagine if I didn’t have the time or desire to put all that time in she would be mental!

Nah I agree. I have a friend that obtained her dog because the original owners, also family, thought the dog was "stupid" because "all she did was poop and pee in the house". Even though the kept it caged for OVER 15hours a day as they went on about their lives. The dog was caged even while they were home "because the dog was crazy and doesn't know how to behave"
They ignored the dog, and when they did interact they complained the dog was too needy and crazy.
My friend kept telling them how to get in tune to the dog and teach her...but their response was, "we don't have time for all that coddling, ITS JUST A DOG.
So my friend took the dog.
The dog became integrated into my friend's family and life style. The dog flourished and is now laid back and confident and HAPPY.
Nowy friend says, the family members want to take the dog back.
My friend was like HECK NAW, my dog. My family and you will NOT mistreat her
My friend's family now has a NEW dog.
The cycle is repeating for that new dog, all over again
I told my friend, people treat their goldfish better than that family treats their dog

Don't take a Malinois, Husky or any dog that needs a "job", a lot of mental and physical exercise. Take a lapdog/small companion dog, or no dog at all. Solution: rehome the dog to a home that will actually properly engage the dog (scent work, agility, flyball, dock diving, lure coursing, hiking a few times a week, biking, running, obedience training) instead of keeping a high energy, high drive, extremely intelligent breed with people that are going to put it on a treadmill instead of actually working their dog.

    • @creatureinside

They mentioned in the video that they go for hikes. I don't think we, as strangers, should judge too harshly without knowing all the facts. I personally have a VERY hyper border collie and I have a diverse, active lifestyle that he's involved in daily yet he still has constant bottled up energy (and he's 12 years old). It's complicated owning a working/active breed even when you do a lot for them, and both me and my dog would die if we were ever seperated.

You realize you’re talking about a multimillion dollar singer/dancer and preformer. I doubt he won’t put money into making sure his dog is stimulated properly and exercised properly. I put my dogs on treadmills daily and I still take them for walks and in the backyard it’s just extra stimulation and energy exertion

Add environmental management to that due to the breed having many neuroses that can cause erratic behaviors. During a routine training session with one of the city's best, trainer's mal who was extremely well trained and exercised lashed out and ripped my dog's face open. A flap 6 inches long on her cheek. He immediately recalled her and it wasn't even the worst she could have done if she were actually set on hurting my dog.
Even with a pro who thinks they train and socialize (he was constantly training and socializing as she was his demo dog at work), these dogs are still unpredictable to a degree because they're very impulsive. Training can teach almost perfect impulse control, but that incident was a wakeup call for him.

You could simply establish wanted behaviours with positive reinforcement. Why not teach the dog what you actually want? Milan sets them up for failure and then punishes them. Dick move. Things I wish I knew before I got a Mali. 2.5 years of constant training and she is finally getting to be an obedient dog. Loves to go on hikes, always on mission mode. She loves her chuck it ball more than anything else. If you exercise them hard everyday they become so much less destructive. I can tell the days I can’t take her out her anxiety begins to build and she digs and chews stuff up. They are the most loyal dogs tho. I have no doubt she would take a bullet for her family, especially the kids. Wish you luck they really are awesome dogs once you understand them

My daughter bought a Rottweiler ( she was familiar with the breed. Stationed in Germany, she saw many) Even so, the breeder had her sign a contract, 1. Spayed.2. Large crate for House breaking 3. Obedience training. 4. She would truly be a member of our family. The breeder refunded the Spay fee. We had tratta for 12 years. Best, smartest gentlest dog ever. The breeders had her parents and litter mates on site. German bloodlines. Tratta had a slight overbite, so the breeder wanted to make sure she would be spayed. I so admire Cesar. I think he rehabbed some of Michael Vicks Pitt Bulls that had been used as fighters.
