      I was thinking that myself. I thought it could have also been a safety switch for a remote car starter.

    It’s actually a red intake manifold not valve cover.

    Hi Derek
    That hood pin is probably for an alarm system. At least I suspect it has one since it also has an LED beside the intercooler spray button.

    A guy I know in my subaru group has a switch like that in the same spot and it activates some led lights on the inside of the hood when you open it so you can work on your car in the dark. That could possibly be what it is and maybe the lights have just been removed.

    JDM cars are 1 year ahead of the US cars. So 03 JDM is Blobeye while UslS got this car in 04. 03 and 04 JDM Sti got unequal length headers while 05 Blobeye Sti got twin scroll turbo and equal length headers. JDM Hawkeyes came in 06.

    Officially, it has still 280hp.
    Gran Turismo 4 says it has 311 hp.
    In comparison between my Legacys equipped with stock ej208 & twinscroll ej207 (the same as this car has) - 311 hp is highly likely to be true.
    This switch under the bonnet is usually used by a car-alarm-sytem.

    I want to order a GC8 eventually, but even tho you guys have the tutorial videos I'm a little uneasy on my ability to look through & purchase on the auctions myself, a lot of other import places in Canada will search for the cars & buy them for you seems a lot more user friendly.

      They come with equal length headers, not entirely sure why, but likely due to the introduction of the twinscroll turbo which was a first for subaru

      Good! FYI, cars like this one go for around 6000 US$ at auctions here... so if you got yours for less, congrats! That one has 130.000km which is very low for a 16 year old car, but hey... Even though similar WRX STi for sale in the Toronto area are priced between 14000 and 18000 CAD, I'm sure yours was much better :)

      @@traxnada - I'll explain on my lunch, busy working, clue you in later.

    • @mynameisray
      @mynameisray 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@traxnada - I got mine, a fantastic and unmodified example for 11.5 all in. I was patient, waited, and was able to wheel and deal. Sure I had to drive up to North Bay to get it, but it was worth it for an unmolested non winter driven car.
      Second, you're forgetting all of the misc fees that come with importing. Even if you picked this up for say 8 grand JPN, you're still looking at between 2 and 6k misc fees for importing. Than it arrives and Vancouver and either needs to be shipped to Ontario or picked up which means flying out and driving back. So when it's all said and done you might score the actual car cheaper, but in the end it will probably cost you more just so you can drive from the right.
      If that's what you want, by all means, I'm simply pointing out the alternative as I do every time.
      So I'm sorry if you get ripped off buying cars and aren't good enough to find great examples at low cost, doesn't mean the rest of us can't.

    Unequal length headers?

    • @zoomzabba452
      @zoomzabba452 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably has a larger, single scroll turbo. Some people prefer the turbo shove of a single scroll big snail vs the linear power delivery of a twin scroll (which makes it feel more like a 6 cylinder).

    • @jordanfleming9635
      @jordanfleming9635 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andy Pedro they don't. Starting with the blobeye, all JDM STIs started using equal length headers. This particular one sounds a little different, so kinda thinking the guy switched to unequal length ones

    • @PacificCoastAuto
      @PacificCoastAuto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dude, that's what it's referred to by basically every car journalist and enthusiast. While you are right on a technical level, you're not making very many friends at a car meet by saying that.

    • @boogiestreet594
      @boogiestreet594 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, it's just not a "Boxer" rumble... there have been boxer engines for a LONG time. much longer than imprezas. There's a guy on TH-cam who put unequal headers in his Honda civic... and that magically has an identical "Boxer Rumble". Why would you call it a boxer rumble, if none of the Subaru's of the last what, Decade? have had reverse headers, thus, No boxer rumble. A boxer doesn't rumble. What people and maybe yourself are thinking is a rumble, is simply exhaust timings being different. Im not kidding,. put unequal length headers on any Evo and you'll get that "Boxer Rumble" lol. I just can't undestand it., They got rid of the reversing headers as they were causing performance to lag behind Evo's, and they're still using the base Boxer engine from when they "Rumbled" and they literally now just sound like any other car. Honestly,. go to youtube, type in "Civic reverse headers". And you get a "Boxer Rumble with not Boxer :p @@PacificCoastAuto
