Thanks for this interesting video! I have to add you might want to research the women's liberation history in relation to typewriters. In the 1970s, women were sick of typewriters because they wanted other opportunities. Last year I saw photos of women activists holding anti-typewriter signs. I looked for these before commenting, but couldn't find them. They felt shackled to a single vocation, secretarial work. My mother is 71 and she grew up being told secretarial work was her only option. She rebelled. Anyway, I think there's a darker side to the pin-up model aspect, especially since men often thought they could get away with anything with their secretaries. I will keep looking for those photos and corresponding info. Thanks again!

Thank you for the additional info and other perspective! I definitely agree with you that it's very catch-22.

    This is wonderful info.
My daughter is a forensics speech coach and one of the events is informative speaking. I am going to recommend that some student might choose this topic for a speech and he/she/they might even reference you.
I am about to deep dive in your vid’s. I think you are great.
I just changed my ribbon in my Remington Rand DeLuxe Model 5. My wife yelled at me for drying my clean hands on a dish towel…after I showed her my ribbon fingers.
    Keep it up.
    You have a fan.

I'm teaching public speaking at the moment too! Finding fun little subtopics can lead to all sorts of research. Congrats on your Remington!

I was aware of this intersection of two of my interests! Although with the title, I thought it would be buff dudes bent over a type writer. 😁

I haven't heard the term "cheesecake card" but I surely know what it would refer to because I'm well familiar with "cheesecake photos." I don't know where the term "cheesecake" came from, but I do know what a cheesecake pose is. This is an interesting sidetrack in the history of typewriters.
I believe Sholes used his daughter in the earliest publicity photo specifically to show that the machine is easy to use and well-suited for the home.
In the corporate world of the 1990s I became familiar with executive assistants as highly capable general fixers who knew all the strings to pull to do anything that was needed.
This was well after I had taken a typing class in high school, even though in the mid-70s it was still largely considered a girls program. My dad greatly encouraged me because, in the army, he learned that having good typing skills had gotten him out of many long marches in bad weather because something had to be typed up.

Were you letting your typewriter cool on the stool because the keys were getting ... HOT?
