Still is even in the US. Granted I wish a lot of the JRPG's were ported over as well. I still have all 13 of my childhood RPG's for my SNES. The greatest adventures I ever had.
there will come a day that every SNES RPG is fully translated and when that day comes i would like to see translators/hackers tackle the PS1/Saturn/N64 era
Super console x comes with HEAPS of fully translated hacked jrpgs from SNES. I'm playing Big Kindergarten Kids now and it's blowing my mind lol. Next up is Live A Live
The switch has improved upon them a ton, like final fantasy pixel remasters (2 and 6 benefit the most from boost), ninja jajamaru lost rpgs, yggdra union coming out in a few days with quality of life (I also recommend live by the sword tactics or mercenaries lament if youre into that genre), and etrian odyssey 3 (trilogy is expensive and 1 and 2 need each other to maximize despite less new stuff). Not sure what super mario rpg will add on switch, but you can catch up pretty quickly nowadays. They did leave xbox series but ps5 has some too. I do like the classics catalog with wild arms 1-3 and ff pixel remasters have trophies. For retro stuff 3ds is cool and r4 ds to get chrono trigger without the bastardized mobile (it had patches)/ps1 versions, though get XL for font size. Black sigil hack was fun though zoids saga ds fan translation had a bad difficulty spike.
I believe I counted 163 rpg's which didn't come to the West. That's a huge number of Japan exclusives and it doesn't even include strategy games which they list in a whole different video! Crazy numbers.
Bounty Sword, Brandish 2 Expert, Feda, Farland Story 1 and 2, the 3 Fire Emblems, Heian Fuunden, Ihatovo Monogatari, Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei, Little Master, Live A Live, Majin Tensei 1 and 2, Solstice 2/Equinox, Sugoro Quest, Tactics Ogre are missing. Anyaway great job compiling all of this :)
Hey BoxedOrLoose, how are you? Thanks for the correction and the feedback, our list are based on gamefaqs website, most of the games that said show are listed as "strategy" on their website, sorry about that, we are not familiar with every game, anyway, I'll try to improve that for the next ones! :-)
Well, it's subjective the real list of what "de facto" is an rpg, for example dokapons are board games, and RPG Tsukuru is an rpg maker, so not exactly an rpg. Some game is more action than rpg, but the debate can't be solved 'cause someone could add also games like Zig Zag Cat or Let's Go & Power WGP 2 or remove the dokapons and Kunio-kun or even Zelda and the other action-oriented ones. I should just add Bounty Sword, Brandish 2 Expert, Feda The Emblem of Justice, Farland Story 1 and 2, the 3 Fire Emblems, Heian Fuunden, Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei, Little Master, Live A Live, Majin Tensei 1 and 2, Solstice 2/Equinox, ,Tactics Ogre and Yam Yam, which is actually an rpg with Space Harrier-like battles (well if I didn't miss some myself XD). If you edit the video with these the list in the video will be 99,99% perfect :) Keep up the good job guys!
So many more beautiful JRPGs that need and have to be translated...I appreciate it every time we get a new one from the Translating ppl...They all do amazing work....
I don't know why, but sometimes i got this feeling when i see a forgotten game as a dream, and then when you find it is like going back in time, sometime is just sad because the game you loved someday is really bad, but most of time is just a cozy feeling of nostalgia from some past day For example, when i was younger i played a lot monstania, but somewhere i just forgot all the memories of this game and accept it as a dream, until today when i watched 20:30 minutes of the video to finally find my lost master piece
I had the same experience with Traverse: Starlight and Praire. I played it when younger and couldn't find it anywhere until I randomly found it when some guy mentioned it months ago online.
I'm from the UK and when you hear people say that Final Fantasy 7 was their first taste of a JRPG...now you might have an idea why LOL. JRPG's as we now know them were so rare back then in the UK, only a few people were lucky enough to experience them and even on the SNES, our biggest RPG was probably Secret of Mana...crazy. Great video compilation, thanks for the upload!
A lot of amazing looking games here that I never knew existed, thanks for compiling! Looks like you guys forgot to include Live A Live and EVO: The Search for Eden though, a couple of my favorites.
Bro... Evo is not an RPG... Tired of people trying to incorporate games into a genre because THEY feel it should be. RPGs are practically only games like FF, Chrono triggers, Earthbounds ETC. RPGS have a feel to them, Like MMO or shooters. YES there are SUB genre but they would go under a wider bracket like action or some shit.
Magna Braban is an interesting JRPG where you set your warriors up and they fight on Auto. It's like watching a school fight and Mystic ark was doing Pokemon styled fights one year before Pokemon hit
Even the most famous titles like Final Fantasy 5 or Dragon Quest weren't translated to English, it's not surprising that most snes RPGs weren't translated to English.
It’s shocking how few JRPGs made it to the states. So many of them I knew would have been hits. While games like Inindu and the two Uncharted Waters made the list there are close to a dozen KOEI strategy RPGs that didn’t make the list.
Yep, I made a "to try" list out of this alright. It's a shame that the subgenre isn't apparent for a lot of them. RPG is such a wide umbrella, covering action[top down and platformer], turn-based, tactics, wizardry-esque, grid combat/tactics-lite, dice roll, beat-em-ups[Kunio-kun, tales, and SO] and more...
Someone help me find this game, I played it a lot when I was younger. Its a RPG like, you can choose a ton of characters, warriors, mages etc. The gameplay consists in defeat the enemys in the map and reach a boss. The characters are not chibi, they are in a realist proportion.
There's a videogame that i cant find or identify... Was on the beggining of the game - The protagonist fight agains't the antagonist and got beatet in a castle bridge (idk), the antagonist was too fast and was part of the story to be defeated, maybe one with blue hair and the other with red hair, medieval fantasy... Somebody know the name, please?

All these awesome rpgs on this console and I was complaining on the lack of rpgs on this thing growing up. They really screwed us up big time. I wish someone would translate all these games, I would gladly pay money for it.

The US really got screwed in the RPG releases department.
Lord of the Rings Volume 1 was also available for the EU (PAL) region, not just for the USA.
7:22 Dragon Slayer: Eiyuu Densetsu doesn’t look like a SNES game. If I saw it in isolation, I’d probably mistake it for an 8-bit title.
