- The Supreme Court on 17 January fixed a February-end deadline for the search committee on Lokpal to recommend a panel of names for appointment of the country's first anti-graft ombudsman. The search committee is headed by former apex court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi directed the Centre to provide the search committee requisite infrastructure and manpower to enable it to complete its work. The bench, also comprising justices L N Rao and S K Kaul, said it would hear the matter again on March 7. Attorney General K K Venugopal, appearing for the Centre, told the bench there were certain problems like lack of infrastructure and manpower due to which the search committee was not able to hold deliberations on the issue.

In my opinion, the government should not interfere in a very trusted institution. if the government continue to interfere to take the decision by individual institutions than the new law Lokpal & Lokayukta is not necessary for our country.

The judge too I think. But he meant it's been rarely or never done in India. It's difficult to get all on board for a process like that.
There should always be a balance between "Efficiency" and "Accountability". Like "CAG" being criticized as a reason for "Policy paralysis" and "Prevention of Corruption Act" as a deterrent for efficient decision. Though PCA was relaxed in 2018,the question is how efficiently we balance these two..
there shall be not much utility if it is passed like this.. what i could come up with is.. First of all the Lokpal law must be amended this budget session.. then..
1. there should be a serious discussion on whether PM should be within the ambit of lokpal or not
2. it must have a separate investigating wing which investigates only corruption cases and this power should be taken away from CBI and all other courts should transfer their cases to the lokpal and lokayukta, so that at the very least it takes off some budren from judiciry and CBI.
3. its decision should not be final and SC should be the final appealate authority in case of lokpal as well as lokayukta decisions and not any other court.
4. this concept of having members based on casts and sects is completely unrelated and should be done away with as this will link it to politicisation of Lokpal and very soon it will be discredited.
5. the chief lokayukta should be first among the equals and decisions should be generally taken by consensus or at least 2/3rd majority.
6.one point i forgot, wait for the edit.
The Eternal Kafir It has already been passed in 2013 and received President's assent on 1st January,2014. The SC has ordered the Search Committee to expedite the process and recommend a panel of names before the end of February.

Why shouldn't be there equal representation of people from all the classes in the lokpal committee? It's not a regressive step at all. It's more about equal representation not reservations.
They want capable candidates ... On basis of merit every class is welcomed...
Bcos there is need of eminent and expertise personalities and if it will be done on basis of class. They may or may not meet the requirement of the panel.
If we see everything in caste angle then we don't have right to claim elimination of it...let the best brains do their work irrespective of their background

Frivolous complaint should be filtered, there is already number of other institution to deal with such frivolous complaint. The main objective behind institutionalization is LOKPAL is check corruption at higher executive level. Even all political parties are not transparent in dealing with their account transactions and revealing their property detail, how every politician become rich in just few years if we analyse their source of income,

Why don’t we give the powers of lokpal to the present CVC system? Creating separate institue for just one more power will put burden on exchequer, increase conflict of area of work etc.

Tamil Nadu Assembly has passed the Lokayukta Bill in 2018, but the map displayed in the video shows Tamil Nadu doesn't have Lokayukta, its wrong.
Parliament also passed Act in 2013 but India doesn't have Lokpal.
@@shivpatel3687 Actually Tamilnadu Nadu has established Lokayukta on July 9 2018 and it is the latest to have Lokayukta..where as Arunachal Pradesh has just passed the bill

Lokpal is the need of the hour to sack corrupt politicians including PM. So institution must be installed b4 2019 lok sabha elections. That is what panel is suggesting.
The image showing States without Lokayukta is wrong. Odisha is the first state to pass a bill on Lokayukta in 1970 but it was enforced in 1983. J&K have SAC in place of Lokayukta. Tamil Nadu is the latest state to create Lokayukta in June,2018.
There are no Lokayuktas in Jammu and Kashmir(SAC), Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry-Waiting for President approval, Sikkim, Telangana and Tripura.

It is very sad to hear from panelists to dilute Lokpal act.see the situation from having protest on roads to have such institution to TV debate of diluting it . ombudsman are the hallmarks of Scandinavian countries and there executive and legislature are not impacted by this institution.rather minimum corruption is the features of Scandinavian countries..from pm to other ministers are under it... absence of Lokpal in India is blatant subversion of legislature mandate.secondly executive are always feared of such institution because of erosion of power , discretion and light of transparency.we need to understand that it is Highly required to have Lokpal and strengthen them..bcs even lokayukta laws in many states are not uniform and lokayukta are very weak ex. U.p lokayukta.. therefore uniform laws and a powerful Lokpal is need of hour

It's really very sad to see that Mr. Satyaprakash is advocating for Lokpal without reservation. If any person from SC, ST, OBC or Women is not in the Lokpal how the people of that community trust on them, where India has a history of oppression of those communities.

It is quite possible that they may alleged that Lokpal is targeting women only. This may reduce the credibility of Lokpal. Aditya Raj Your argument is flawed. Why aren't the CVC chief and CBI chief women then? Corruption and Crime aren't associated to a particular caste/gender and people of a country should have conscience not to make assumptions like this. Let the deserving get the seat.
