I've had numerous dirtbikes over the years, a lot of them were heavy, big bore machines. The KLX140 big wheel will be my next bike for sure. Light, fun, and good for an older rider like me.
I am the same user KLX 140, and I have made KLX 140 to 188cc by using bore kit BRT ceramic and piston super forged 63mm, and crankshaft BRT Stroke up 60.4 mm + carbon valve BRT 31/25 and carburetor PWK Kx85
I have the F model. Done quite a bit of work on it, Cogent front suspension, Pro Circuit pipe, air box mods and filter, jets and most important for a fellow who is 5'11" tall and 170 pounds, mine has a full size Carmichael MX bar, bar risers, guards, dropped pegs and best of all a tall seat which all in all makes my 140F feel and look full size. I also took some weight off with a lithium battery. At near 70 yo I quit motocross a long while back but use the KLX for my backyard MX track and the occasional hare scramble. If the throttle is kept pegged and let the little thing rev it scoots along admirably and does not wear me out like when fighting a heavier bike.
I run Dunlop MX33s on any bike I own! They are motocross tires but they have gotten the job done really well in trails as well! And with me putting 100+ miles on them in a matter of months they hold up really well!
AMEN at 1:43 as you have brought back the 170 class bike like back in the 1970's where it was more about the rider's ability ! 👍 I forgot to ask ... Was your KLX 140 made by Kawaski or Suzuki ? Our 2004 KLX 125 was made by Suzuki .
@AaronsEnduro Loving all your videos on the klx140, i picked up a 2022 klx140rf last fall and picked up almost all the parts youve added and talked about in your videos. Just had some questions on jetting and any of the other adjustments you made to get it to run properly. Im in wisconsin so was wondering what jetting you would suggest and any other help you might have would be greatly appreciated.
You’re on your own for figuring out what jetting works best for you, but generally speaking a 22.5 pilot and 185 main is what most are running. I ended up with 25 pilot and 190 main
just got my 140 yesturday, going to start with tusk kit and plate my bike but i think ill have to go 170 eventualy ha. awesome video. what do you use for recording hours on bike?
You have a lot of info in the video that’s gold… I bought a 2024 140RL as well and I’m looking to make it as fast as possible, with out breaking it… colab? Or suggestions?
I am 12 and my KLX 140RF is an early 2023 prerelease bike, I have had my bike for 2 years now and I want to upgrade my bike since I am starting to grow out of it. Do you think that putting a 170 kit on a nicely running engine is something you should do or should you use the bike a little more until it starts giving you problems to repair the bike with a bigger kit?
Great review Aaron, thanks! Couple questions; you have two different rear brake pedals listed, one is black looks similar to stock, and the other is a Tusk KX250. I've smashed my OEM as it's crap anyway and looking at a replacment. Which of the two are you using? I like the Tusk as it flexes but it looks longer than stock? Do you like that one? Also, is the Mukuni carb swap going to make a big enough difference if I'm keeping it 140cc, not big bore. Did you have the carb swap prior to the 170? If so, what was the performance difference? Trying to justify whether I want to spend $220. Although I've rejetted the OEM carb and it cranks/runs really well, definately going to upgrade my exhaust as it can't breathe too well with the stock pipe right now. Thanks!
So ya the kx250 is a longer option if you have bigger feet. Personally i run the oem black replacement and it was perfect for me with size 10 boots. I never ran the vm26 carb prior to doing my big bore, but i do know the stock 20mm carb is tiny for even a 140cc . Ive read that people seen gains from running the 26mm carb even on a stock engine!
Does it use much more fuel with the mods or still get decent MPG? Just wondering as I like to go on long back country rides, so economy is good to have.
We all know the big bore kit is worth it But the bbr d3 for 400 dollars is it worth it Yes I would buy it again I got it on my full mod 110 and it sounds and looks insane best thing I’ve ever bought hands down And the carbon fiber heat shield is amazing I haven’t burnt myself since I got this pipe
Aaron can you please let me know what size tires? 110/100 18 and 80/100 21? Thank you I am researching for my sons bike and need your help. You are his favorite channel!
Heres the tires i run! Dunlop AT81EX Rear Tire (110/100-18): amzn.to/3EdpbsM Kenda IBEX Front Tire (80/100-21) amzn.to/3lIFuYp I appreciate y’all watching and supporting the channel! Thanks for watching!
Hey Aaron, got another question on the 140. I hate the lack of adjustment on the rear brake pedal. At best with the stock pedal, it's still higher than I like it to be. But the threaded rod coming down from the rear master cylinder prevents me from adjusting the pedal down any further. If you thread it down too far, you can't get the pin through (if you know what I mean?). I don't think you can thread the rod up any higher into the master cylinder can you? That would be the only way to get any more room on the bottom end of the rod. I just tried putting a KX100 pedal on it and it's riding about an inch above my foot peg so that's not going to work either. Am I the only one that's had this frustration with the rear brake pedal? Am I missing something on this?
Your not the only one. I also don’t like the rear brake pedal position. I wish it was slightly lower, it’s rough to raise my foot high enough, especially in boots to cover the brake without accidentally riding it constantly.
@@AaronsEnduro Having said that, I still love the bike! I’m going to keep making improvements to it. I’ll keep it for my oldest daughter whenever she feels confident enough moving up from her CRF125. Riding dirt bikes with yours kids, nothing better! 😀
Did your bike bog or hesitate when blipping the throttle fast? Mine does and no matter what jets I use or adjustment on the air screw it still does it. Totally lost on this one. Just installed the big bore kit and new vm26 carb.
Any small bore 4 stroke you cant just ring the throttle and have it rev. Now i did has a slight hesitation with my big bore klx170 that i could never get sorted with the vm26 carb no matter what jetting. The best jetting for me at 0 ft elevation was 25 pilot, 190 main
@@AaronsEnduro I will try that. I’m at 846 feet above sea level here in north Georgia. It’s running great for everything except when you grab the throttle quick to pop the front over a log or curb. It’s my 10yr old son’s bike. I guess I’m just used to my 450 KTM.
@@AaronsEnduro also I forgot to mention the carb that came in the kit came two packs of main jets but no pilot jets. I had to order them from another vendor. They are TBParts as well. We got the 2024 klx 140L for my wife. The thing wouldn't idle from day one. The dealer ended up replacing the carb so we could adjust it. I put a 53 rear sprocket, and it is still geared way too high for her. I am going 12 on the front next and 54 on the rear. It's so gutless. She hates the bike so far. We went on our first real trail ride today, and it was not a pleasant experience for her. No power and way too runs like absolute garbage. I'm looking at the big bore kit and gearing it down more. She likes to dog paddle on the technical stuff. I feel like we really made a mistake buying this bike. I hate having to pour money into this just to make it rideable. There's not much choice at this point.

Same as without it. Only gearing affects your top speed. Big bore increases HP/torque which just makes the bike accelerate faster
