Bought mine from StationLevelZero, came quick and assembled it works great awesome design man. I like laptops but rarely use one so see no point in paying almost twice the price for a MacBook Pro or even a few hundred more for the Macbook Air. I may get the 14inch MacBook pro but at the moment it's unnecessary for me.

Man... I don't even stopped to think if I should buy and make the same thing... I understood your problem and that you came out with your own solution and loved the quality of the video itself, but also the final product and was craving for more of the process. I hope you don't break when facing destructive criticism and continue to do such awesome things.
Yeah lol, not everything will apply to your use case. Some people are doing the inverse of this and getting MBP’s without screens and using them essentially as Mac mini’s with built in keyboard and trackpad. It’s all about finding what works for you. If you have an iPad mini and don’t want to shell out on a whole MacBook Air this could be a great solution for you
As someone who's looking to become an engineer, these are the types of videos that are keeping me from dropping out and giving up. I would love to see more of these videos!
The “2 Second Joke”… Totally worth it. It made the point you were making without words. It was a very cool effect and it follows the Show don’t Tell rule in film making.
I'm not going to lie I'm 3 minutes and 39 seconds into this video and I'm just so upset you have to even address this. I saw your first video and thought oh he doesn't have a macbook laptop. And when you came up with the creative, and emphasize on creative, solution for your demand of portability/desktop hardware, I was so amazed and even blown away thinking "wow that's innovation right there" I know it might not be like you to tell people to get off their high horse because a it is your video and be you have that right but I'm just going to say what everyone else is thinking who was just impressed by your creativity.
thank you for the kind words! and don't be too upset. i KNEW this was a subject that would come up sooner or later as i get more experimental with the projects i share. i wouldn't usually address this kind of thing but i realized it was a good opportunity to share my thoughts on this with the viewers i care about.
@@ScottYuJan fair enough. Really glad you are doing well with your videos. Hey got any recommendations for the ender 3 print settings? Having trouble with mine and not everyone makes it clear how to troubleshoot shoot.
Your whole approach to the design process and your willingness to open source the design and discuss potential mods with the community like this is awesome!
I can’t believe how generous you are. Love that you share your process and ideas and still willing to let other people make them and sell them. Great video!
I had a think about a few of your videos about this; then I thought- wow cool 😎👍 There are solutions for everyone and every situation if you can't find one; 'do it yourself' or get a friend to help out. Shame putting headphone jacks on all new Apple kit were so easy as this project 😆 Thanks for your passion with your YT channel, awesome.
I think this would be a great concept for artists, being able to carry this on the go is dope. You have the power of a computer and the power of the iPad.
Man I was like less than a minute in and I just kept thinking…”Why the hell does he even have to go through this.” I love your creativity and editing style. You deserve the praise and the recognition for the hard work for your dedication and how informative your videos are. But, everyone has a different opinion unfortunately ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't have a Mac Mini nor an iPad, nor can I afford any apple product anytime soon. I'm watching this video from my old, but functional Samsung phone. Yet I watched your first video and honestly fell in love with it. I don't think deeply about the practicality of it, but it does make so much sense since you have a mac mini and iPad and can solve your problem in a quirky way. This project was so good in many ways, the video quality is top notch, and it's just so fun to watch. I love portable products and the way you made it look so minimalistic and beautiful is inspiring. Sad to see people are hating on this rather than enjoy it.
Transparency sheets are also known as Acetate film. It took me longer than it should have to find this name a few years ago for a project. They sell it in huge rolls that could be applied to a monitor (also helps with scratches from TTRPG minis on your digital battle map).
About the loosening bolts, you could replace the nuts with lock-nuts coated with teflon, it would reduce the need for adjusting the tension by at least 5-10 times.
As someone who owned the first Apple laptop in 1989... The Macintosh Portable. I think this is pretty dope. I think the thing that makes this so useful(to me) is the disconnect between the screen and the keyboard... I love to be able to skew the keyboard at an angle so I can use it one handed, write in a notebook, or use a BT wacom or mouse. Awesome job.
I study engineering and when i stumbled across your original video it was super eye opening for me. Finding solutions for personal problems and sharing them with the world is something i truly admire. Dont stop and dont let the hate get to ya
I loved this idea so much! Ignore the haters, I felt that this was a great solution: using the things you already have than spending another 1000 dollars just to make it "portable" for the few hours you need to take a computer out
We need more people like u who actually not care abt making money but to share knowledge and improve humanity creation. Wish ur channel grow stronger 🙏
The haters are just jealous that you made an amazing design. This is useful because not everyone can buy a MacBook. I only have my Mini M1 and I need a mobile solution badly for music production and my podcast and video show. Thank you for making this! 🤘🏻❤️
I came across your videos maybe a month ago and I really love the content so far. I think people should appreciate that designing and building something doesn't always have to be about coming up with the best end product to bring to market. Sometimes its cool to just make something for exploration purposes especially if its to solve your own unique problems. I really enjoyed watching the design and build process. To be honest, I'd love to see longer videos that document the entire process in more detail. Your videos are motivating me to try messing around with building my own things too. Thanks!
The portable mac mini idea seems incredibly ingenious to me. Unfortunately, I only just discovered your channel, but it seems to me one of the most inspirational on TH-cam, in terms of design. Best regards!
As a mom of a young boy, I’m not only interested in your cool projects but I’m very interested in you! How can someone become so cool? What kind of parents foster such a genius head? I wanna interview them!! You’re the most cool designer I’ve seen!
Rachel your son may wanna be a dancer or a chef, only time will tell.... this guy is an engineer, combined with new generation tech and a GenZ narcissist drive.... that's all. There are many videos as good or better than this channel all over TH-cam, and we don't see a face talking for 20 minutes, but actual projects being done, you just like the boy in the screen :P
You’re too kind my guy. The original idea was brilliant. I have a MacBook Pro and love it, wouldn’t trade it for a thing. That said the original video was fire. People need to relax, personal responsibility and choice are lost ideas on some people. Keep inspiring my guy, don’t let the haters and home alone crowd keep ya down.
Cool solution, and using stuff you already have is always a great reason to diy. Macbooks historically are notorious for having bad thermals, so I see why one would make the project. I have macOS hackintoshed on to a thinkpad which has great thermals and a spill proof keyboard and other great design philosophies. Neat idea as always though Scott.
Upgrading your existing items to save $ is immensely satisfying. You can keep doing this introspective stuff. I want to say you should not focus too much on the negative people, but I actually liked how you addressed their critiques, since it probably answered some common questions. Surprised you didn't address how it'd be an improvement to use nylock nuts or thread locker on the hinge.
I love the videos where you create or have a problem and then build/print a fix, because a lot of people have access to printers but not everyone has a million dollar metal/woodworking shop like other youtubers.
Really amazed by your work and how you are so selfless about sharing the design files with the community. We should learn from you to execute our ideas into action instead of just being a dreamer. Love your content!
Yo Scott, the process is everything, the solution is hardly even relevant. Keep doing what you do. Blows my mind that you not only have been designing and inventing like a boss, but your editing is dope too. Not to mention how open you are with sharing your designs; you're the real deal bro.
Fire. Love the videos and their behind the scenes. Keep this going because I think a lot of people will be interested in the process, not just a final product! Thanks.
On the contrary, you solve a problem for you, provide solutions, innovate and manufacture a specific model that meets your needs. It is intelligence from you, God willing, and you do not depend on anyone. It is not that you are unable to buy, nor that you lack money. Simply that you are an innovative person and depend on your intelligence. Do not care about negative comments. These people may be dependent and stupid. I wish you success And do not stop your videos because you are a human being who excited us and gives us a total impetus to life and to innovate ideas and develop the mind and introduce us to technology that is useful to us in daily life. You are a beautiful human being inside and out ❤💪🇰🇼
I really loved this! It’s really cool hearing all of the behind the scenes - the actual process and craft behind the project is super exciting and interesting! Thanks for the cool video - I’m looking forward to whatever’s next. :)
oh its super interesting that you had to "simplify" your motivation in the intro of that video for pacing reasons... makes me rethink some of the other videos i've seen that i didn't get or maybe thought was a bit lacking in explanations. glad you got an opportunity to explain your thought process more in depth in this video!
If I still did live conference services, it would actually be useful. With the amount of ports, it would be useful to plug in a ATEM mini, Audio interface before needing adapters. Back then there were solutions that used small pelican cases and feelworld monitors so it was definitely something people have been messing around with for a while, but with Intel based mac minis... Yeah i don't feel confident about putting it in an enclosed space
FYI, your videos are extremely intresting and fun to watch. I am a mechanical engineer, and good at making things if I have to...but the production quality and approach you take in making your videos is quite unique and that makes them fun to watch. Keep up the good work.
I dont even have the time to watch the rest of this video right now, but rest assured ,that past video and intuitive fabrication for utility is genus. If other people don't get it, we'll, it's obvious they are not.
I personally wouldn't use this Mini/iPad device, but I still think it's brilliant. Anyone who would criticize this is ridiculous. It's a brilliant little project, and you did a great job. And the video was one of the best TH-cam videos I've seen in the Tech space in years. Keep it up! You're going to a million followers soon, I think.
Correct me if I'm mistaken but it seems like you enjoyed this kind of video too? I think the best videos will be ones you enjoy working on. But regardless this video was great! As always the production quality is next level and your content is so well structured and presented 👌
Loved your creativity. Finding ways to get more out of existing hardware even if it'd a niche case (especially if it's a niche case, actually) is what I'm all about. I appreciate this long form BTS video, too.
I love how are so open with the stuff you make. You could make money from it but by open sourcing and pushing people to improve it it will be a community project and will become much bigger that way. Really love your shii!!
Dude, your ideas, solutions, and inventions helped me solve my own Mac mini portable opportunities. People will always criticize, but you know what, I had such a friend, but in the end, I always blew his mind after the finished product was put to action, lol.
I'm 33% jealous of your engineering skills. I'm 33% jealous of your filming/editing skills. I'm 33% jealous of your whole clean neutral color aesthetic. The other 1% is that sick window view.
I love your solution and it's perfect for me. My mac mini goes with me when I travel, but so does my 27" monitor and I hate it! Can't wait to put this together.
like this comment, if you want to see *LESS* ... of this kind of behind-the-scenes talking videos. please be honest. i’m definitely on the fence about it still so I would appreciate any feedback
I watch your first video from a Taiwan channel, and when I come across the comments, I saw people said there’s a lot of negative comment towards your video. What I wanted to express is, I love watching the video!! It’s so creative!! And you know yourself (your situations) very well, so you decided to do it this way. And I admire everything you did in creating the video😍😍 that’s amazing n brilliant 🫧 Feel so sorry people leaves negative comments, but I understand their point of view, like, MacBook should be a choice (for most people). But everyone is different, everyone’s choice is different! If everyone is the same, this world will be so boring!! Subscribed your channel!!! And I’m looking forward to your future videos💓💓💓 Cheers from Hong Kong (sorry if my English is not correct🙈😝)
You seem to have strange problems and crazy obsessions but man your content is solid gold ! The people that told you to "buy a laptop instead" never experienced how good it feels to 3d print a perfect solution to your unique problem. They have to live with the itch when you design youself a scratcher.
You brought a great point at the beginning of the video about, why not use the devices you already have. I totally agree with it. Apart from spending more money (which Apple or any other companies would love you to do), my biggest frustration is the continuity. I just hate when I try to continue working on some project on one device, just then realize some of the files/settings/downloads/code/YouNameIt were on the other device. Having a single device makes it so much easier to "continue" where you left of. Thanks. Keep up the great work.
I’m really glad I stumbled upon this series of videos. This actually solved an issue for me that I didn’t realize I had. My iPad is my usual daily driver and I have a computer that I use for the few things I can’t do with my iPad. I’m currently in the process of considering downsizing my iPad Pro to the Mini for easier carrying around and upgrading my aging pc laptop to a Mac Mini and these videos really got me thinking about how great it would be to have my gear work together so much more cohesively. Thank you for being the maker you are and for solving a problem I didn’t quite realize that I had! ^^
You do you, Scott. Don't give in to the hate, if people think your free content isn't worth their time, they can just skip it, while the rest of us are here for the ride. Keep it up! Cheers!
For me it is a great pleasure to see the thinking process behind. We should not just copying but extracting the way of solving problems. It is more important than printing the stl files out.
A brilliant start for making content in TH-cam. Excellent video visuals, sound quality, interconnection of ideas and etc. Thats quite rare to be honest. Keep it up !!
Man, this format of afterthouths is super awsome. it continues the story and also makes your personal story and yourself much more visible and valuable. Thank you for sharing that
I really enjoyed a look behind the scenes and seeing more of your process. I love your style, the birthday, the initials, Tom Sachs meets Cyberpunk meets NASA. I literally went back and watched all your videos after finding the Ender 3 Pro upgrades one. I can’t wait to see more!
Unlike most people in the comments, I actually found your video while searching for something like this. The Mac mini makes sense for me because it's the cheapest Mac product and I already have a Windows PC setup at home. I just needed a Mac device which I can dock both at home and work. I am actually surprised why more people haven't tried this out. If you had used a cheaper HDMI display you practically have a portable and way more affordable M2 Mac right there! I love what you are doing and I'm actually relieved to find someone with a relatable thought process.
I have always wanted to get into 3D printing and maybe soon but I just came across this video browsing TH-cam and I am now a fan and subscribed. The Part 1 was great to hook me and as a technical person, Part 2 really sold me on why I need to subscribe and watch all your content.
Forget the haters. Your original video inspired me to make the most of the very old iPad pro I want to make my primary device and refuse to replace. You're doing amazing work, and I can't wait to see what else you do!
great idea! the value of both as separate + then merged is worth more to me than the needlessly duplication of both in a laptop! Your comments are legit and served my needs perfectly.
Hello, I’m new here and I came because I’m looking for some 3D printers. You are so inspired. I’m student of modelmaking in Uk 🇬🇧 and I’m in love with your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas.
Please do these follow ups when you feel like it. It’s great to see feedback and your responses. It’s good to keep the main videos to the point and concise. Don’t feel the need to do so for every video you put up though.
I absolutely agree with you on solving one's own niche problems! I have a worktable i wanted to build, which includes power sockets under the desk( fastened to the top of the desk for easy access), rgb (why not) and wheels so that i can shift it around without trouble. All that for more convienence while working on projects XD
Add the link of the original video somewhere as I got so see this one first and I loved the honesty at the begging of the video so it hook me to watch it till the end
I got my first Ender3 yesterday, and of course right to TH-cam for help with set up and I run across your video of upgrades part 1. I have now watched ALL of your videos. You have an amazing mind and I love what you are doing here on the Tube. As for all of the negative comments you seem to get, take it from me, they are envious of your talents (hell I am). I am an avid Apple hater, yet I can appreciate what you can do with them. All in all keep up the AMAZING videos.
Just realize that people can do all this thing alone, i'm impressed. And i see i have a lot to learn !! I'm not sure i can create a whole things with a 3D printer, i will try first to improve my business but, i will see your other video because all this creativity and intelligence in action is wonderful guy
What you did was extremely digable.. Those that don't, lack common sense. Carry on with doing things to make your life more productive with what you have. Mad respect.
Bro this is your vision to use them together. Other people thinking way, it doesn’t matter. I love your different and also simply design vibe. Keep going. I hope I can make a collaboration with you one day
I’m here because I want one do-it-all device. The mac mini appeals to me because I think, at least eventually, I can have multiple operating systems and be able to use all of my apps, and when you gut i, it’s not that big at all. I’m thinking about converting it into a cell phone for shits and giggles 😂. I never thought of using my iPad as a display, but that’s a great idea. I was thinking of ditching a screen altogether and trying to make my own XR glasses. I would love to not have to pull out my phone out of my pocket and just control things with gestures and bodily taps. I also thought about just running a bunch of virtual machines, which I still may do. Keep up the slick and beautiful work!
Hey Scott you knocked it out the park with your design. I was blown away by your first video , and your creativity and ingenuity is awesome. As the saying goes you understood the assignment. You should copyright your design even though you want to give it away for free. Keep cranking out more epic content.❤️❤️❤️❤️
So I took this idea and ran with it.. My iPad mini/Mac mini are now the brain of my pedalboard for guitar. 🔥 No more issues with lack of DSP in a guitar pedal. And the foot print.. Amazing.

You are a beautiful human being inside and out ❤💪🇰🇼
It was really nice hearing you talk about this kind of stuff. Hope to see more videos like this one in the future!
very nice !!!
Make an updated one for M4
Most creative human on TH-cam!!! They noticed that that’s why hater are hating!! Keep it up bro, awesome videos
Everytime you upload my day is saved
Man, you don’t owe haters and trolls any explanation. You made something extremely cool for yourself and showed it to the world. Hard stop.
You are gods gift bro ! DONT LET ANYTHING STOP YOU FROM BLESSING THIS WORLD ! keep up the good work
Congrats on being a large enough channel to have the mysterious angry people viewers who seem to hate everything. It’s a milestone!
Clearly the best idea for the mini since the unibody design. A Mac touch screen on its own is brilliant. Sub.
I'm 33% jealous of your engineering skills. I'm 33% jealous of your filming/editing skills. I'm 33% jealous of your whole clean neutral color aesthetic. The other 1% is that sick window view.
Lol
I love your solution and it's perfect for me. My mac mini goes with me when I travel, but so does my 27" monitor and I hate it! Can't wait to put this together.
like this comment, if you want to see *LESS* ...
of this kind of behind-the-scenes talking videos. please be honest. i’m definitely on the fence about it still so I would appreciate any feedback
You should pin this comment so we don't have to scroll all the way to the bottom

30mins in, only 1 like.
I personally enjoyed this vid a LOT, keep doing whatever makes you happy!
I def want to see these more to know your opinion/thoughts.
@@omarnotfound thank you! i actually liked it myself just to get the ball rolling 😂
I watch your first video from a Taiwan channel, and when I come across the comments, I saw people said there’s a lot of negative comment towards your video. What I wanted to express is, I love watching the video!! It’s so creative!! And you know yourself (your situations) very well, so you decided to do it this way. And I admire everything you did in creating the video😍😍 that’s amazing n brilliant 🫧
Feel so sorry people leaves negative comments, but I understand their point of view, like, MacBook should be a choice (for most people). But everyone is different, everyone’s choice is different! If everyone is the same, this world will be so boring!!
Subscribed your channel!!! And I’m looking forward to your future videos💓💓💓
Cheers from Hong Kong (sorry if my English is not correct🙈😝)
You seem to have strange problems and crazy obsessions but man your content is solid gold !
The people that told you to "buy a laptop instead" never experienced how good it feels to 3d print a perfect solution to your unique problem. They have to live with the itch when you design youself a scratcher.
that 2 second bit with the broken macbook air was golden i watched it frame by frame
bruh, so genuine and fun to watch you. Love to see you only take credit and nothing. Big heart! i love you content and CREATIVITY
LOVE FROM BHUTAN
You do you, Scott. Don't give in to the hate, if people think your free content isn't worth their time, they can just skip it, while the rest of us are here for the ride. Keep it up! Cheers!
For me it is a great pleasure to see the thinking process behind. We should not just copying but extracting the way of solving problems. It is more important than printing the stl files out.
How could people hate that? Its actually brilliant and the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen you’re amazing dude!!!!!
Thank you for sharing that
I personally would be happy to watch full length fusion 360 design videos
Beauty move releasing stl and step files for this, very helpful.
Love your design process and generous attitude… now with the Mac mini M4 size it changes the playing field a little! Keep innovating… best wishes!
great idea! the value of both as separate + then merged is worth more to me than the needlessly duplication of both in a laptop! Your comments are legit and served my needs perfectly.
Hello, I’m new here and I came because I’m looking for some 3D printers. You are so inspired. I’m student of modelmaking in Uk 🇬🇧 and I’m in love with your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas.
I’m going to be honest, I watch this video to motivate me to finish hard projects and not quite. Love your videos, and hope you do well.
This entire process blew my mind 🤯. This is the kinda content that gets you excited and pumped !
Please do these follow ups when you feel like it. It’s great to see feedback and your responses. It’s good to keep the main videos to the point and concise.
Don’t feel the need to do so for every video you put up though.
Bro, you do whatever you want to do. As long as your videos are being made. Just love all of your videos. Cheers from Mongolia!
Thank you so much for the files! I’m an iPad mini user who was in thoughts of buying a Mac mini. Your amazing
I just love how creative he is and the way he edits, keep it up.
You made your invention open source. You’re a good person.
Love the behind the scenes stuff and putting the stl out for free was a really nice thing to do, especially letting people sell it!
I don't usually comment videos, but i think you're one of the most creative and innovative youtuber in the space. Congrats dude
This was my first video discovering your channel, and I found myself smiling wide due to the great video, creativity and skills 🤩 Thank you!
Just realize that people can do all this thing alone, i'm impressed. And i see i have a lot to learn !! I'm not sure i can create a whole things with a 3D printer, i will try first to improve my business but, i will see your other video because all this creativity and intelligence in action is wonderful guy
Now attach the custom USB dial wheel for content creator, and you'll have the perfect replica of "Macbook Wheel" from The Onion News channel
Seems like you just figure out why the internet sucks, cause "hate" is the most powerful word these days.... keep it up with the good work
What you did was extremely digable.. Those that don't, lack common sense. Carry on with doing things to make your life more productive with what you have. Mad respect.
Bro this is your vision to use them together. Other people thinking way, it doesn’t matter. I love your different and also simply design vibe. Keep going. I hope I can make a collaboration with you one day
Keep it up, the design process is what made your previous video so unique IMO
Keep up the slick and beautiful work!
thank you i already download the files and will make the file print for the mac mini
I love your thinking.
Amazing.
you're the man for makin this AND share the 3d printer files!
