This is why the Princess Leia basically said the Outer Rim is impossible to hold. The amount of outposts and garrisons required to hold it is impossible. The Death Star was created because Palpatine realized you cannot dissolved the Senate and then control thousands of star systems.

It was sad, but it was also a turning point for Crosshair. I am not sure he'll rejoin his team, but I would like to see him find a purpose. He's not bad; he was just programmed that way.

@@seanj3667 Tbh, he actually IS “bad”. It isn’t his programming at all (after all, he’s removed his chip a long time ago)…it’s just the way that he is. He knows what the Empire is and stands for. He was there on Kamino when they single-handedly destroyed his home. Thousands of Kaminoans, clones, and their facilities all destroyed in a single night. He’s hunted down “rebels” who simply didn’t want to be ostracized and oppressed by tyrants, and has even gone so far as to execute an entire gathering of civilians for being civilians and not having intel. All on Imperial orders. Yet, when given the chance to leave this obviously corrupt regime and rejoin his old squad, he willingly chooses to return.
None of what he’s going through now is unexpected, and compared to what he went through before, it’s honestly pretty tame.
The Empire wiped out your entire home (putting you on the verge of extinction) and then lied about how some storm did it, so why are you surprised they’re not leaping at the opportunity to give one random clone medical attention?

This was so emotional for me. Crosshair FINALLY connected with someone, only to lose him so cruelly. RIP Commander Mayday. Crosshair finally gets it. He's just a number. An expendable piece of meat. Despite his unwavering service, he means NOTHING to The Empire.
At that moment, the Ice Vulture gliding above him reminds him of the Marauder and his brothers. And he loses it on the pissy Lieutenant. I didn't expect that. I do hope Nala Se finds and frees him after he promises to keep Omega safe.

I agree with those that said they liked this episode more than Mando ep 2. When I saw Crosshair at the start I was like, yes!! To see his arc in this episode was a bit emotional, after commenting on dead weight then taking care of Mayday … I lost it. I like the symbolism of Mayday, who looked and sounded a little like Hunter, agreed with Crosshair on following orders … I was blown away. Crosshair giving him his most prized possession as a help, was not lost on me either. I think Filoni timed these episodes perfectly, knowing the overwhelming love of Mando, he didn’t want the Bad Batch getting overshadowed and placed these episodes to keep folks tuned in. I have a huge theory regarding the Cloning Assistant Emerie Karr. To me she looks like an older version of Omega with brown hair, and her soft facial features are also kinda similar to Tech. My assumption is that she is not only a clone but the actual fifth modified clone. Remember in the very first episode of the series when Nala Se said that "five are all that remain". Omega was present in that scene but she could be a red herring, since it turned out that she has original Jango Fett DNA. That doesn't mean that Omega does not have a special ability, like force sensitivity, of some sort, maybe Nala Se lied about the number being six in total. All of the mutations of Clone Force 99 were intentional, so maybe Nala Se modified the sex chromosomes to help both Emerie and Omega to stay under the radar. Omega was always kept close to Nala Se, whereas Emerie could have gotten some sort of special training, seperate from her brothers. Because I believe that her specialty is infiltration and espionage. She is so good that nobody knew she even existed. It makes sense because what does Clone Force 99, a squad of commandos specialized in sabotage and independent work behind enemy lines, lack? A dedicated medic and an expert in long-term undercover work. Emerie would fit both roles perfectly. "Emerie Kerr" could be a fake identity and she could be instituted as some sort of personal bodyguard and spy for Nala Se.
Everyone in Clone Force 99 has at least two roles I can think of: Hunter is the leader and tracker, Wrecker the muscle and demolitionist, Tech the IT-specialist and main pilot, Crosshair the sniper and lookout, Echo the hacker and veteran, Emerie the spy and medic and Omega is the strategist and wild card.

Plo Koon explicitly said that Clones were not expendable to him. Mace Windu did all his great feats to save them when we saw them fighting on Ryloth.
And the sick joke of it was that the only reason the Clones existed was to shoot the Jedi in the back. Anakin Skywalker enslaved them, a race of people, for the express purpose of committing genocide against another race of people.

I saw the avalanche not so much as the might of the Empire, but as representing Crosshair's internal representation of his own sins doing the Empire's bidding (he fired the shot that caused the explosion that destabilised the ice, in much the same way as he pulled that same trigger while following orders). In Crosshair's mind, his own ruthlessness for the Empire had removed all hope for companionship, free will, anything good. He believed he had made his own icy hell, his own merciless world. Being a 'good soldier' turned him into someone who felt he was only fit for more soldiering - otherwise he'd have to live in the world he created and come to terms with it. But, in bonding with Mayday, he felt enough to drag the both of them out of his torment, and in the end it wasn't the maelstrom of Crosshair's personal guilt that killed Mayday, but the cold indifference of the Empire (in the form of Nolan). I feel like Crosshair, the guy who supposedly has the best vision, walked out of a blizzard of guilt and self-loathing, and, in a moment of clarity, finally saw the enemy.

Coming from a long family line of veterans, this episode hit HARD. It was sad growing up to see how my grandfather was told to ignore his mental trauma lest he break the mirage of veterans as "brave heroes" (America would execute soldiers who froze up on the battlefield... that was how we treated our own men!) Then how my dad was treated after Vietnam where veterans were simply discarded and they had to march the streets for basic health care and acknowledgement of what would finally be called "PTSD," and my generation fighting in both Gulf Wars, still protesting for health care after they have sacrificed so much for their country.

Love Ryan's take on this episodes reflections on the real world attitude of armies towards cannon fodder soldiers. I don't like armies or wars. But, if you recruit people to fight and die then you better treat them right including after you're done with them. Crosshair may have finally learned that like so many before him in fiction and reality he is just a number.
Season 2 of Bad Batch has hit some really high notes. Great episode. Really hope Crosshair rejoins the Batch.

It’s important that when the avalanche buries them, crosshair loses his helmet, his sign of indoctrination to the empire as called out in the opening lines. When he lost his helmet he metaphorically lost his faith with it.

I thought the bird above at the end was to be seen as a vulture circling dead meat on the ground. Clones are just meat for the vultures to the Empire and Cross-hair finally got it.

Mayday and Crosshair reminded me of Luke and Han in Hoff. Crosshair recovers him and brings him back. The imperial ships are like snow speeders on patrol. Instead it is all opposite

Everyone raved and gushed over how much they loved Andor, but honestly, The Bad Batch is blowing Andor away in terms of emotionally charged stories and character investment. No Force magic, no lightsaber duels, no Jedi or Sith, just soldiers. Heroes. Men who did their duty and were thrown away like garbage. Which is one of the most realistic stories ever explored in the Star Wars universe.
Ahsoka Tano used to be my favorite Star Wars character. But now, she comes in second to the clones. Well, technically, I supposed, she comes in something like twenty-millionth or so, behind all the clones, but... you know. These guys are the best characters in the franchise, especially as portrayed by Dee Bradley Baker in the various animated shows. But I am hoping to see a live-action Rex in the Ahsoka show later this year.
I knew what Crosshair was going to do, but I had a moment where I thought, "Dangit, he's not gonna..." when Nolan turned and walked away. Then Crosshair said, "Lieutenant" and ZAP! There he goes.
I'm beginning to think that this season is ultimately leading up to a wide-spread clone rebellion against the Empire, either in the form of mass desertion or an actual armed uprising. Either way, the season will probably end on a cliffhanger, with Omega in the clutches of the Empire and the Batch barely escaping - but WITH Crosshair, who will rejoin the team to get her out in Season 3.

Crosshair is going to be used to lure the Bad Batch, perhaps with Side help, to the Doctor who wants Omega to force the Caminoan doctor to work with him on cloning. This may lead into the cloning necessary to make Palps return viable. So Omega will get captured (again) and this is where the season will end.

Well done, Ryan and team! But: Are they birds-of-prey, or carrion birds? I think they’re circling over the dying remains of the clones. Crosshair recognizes that their time as soldiers is ending. But, as the final bird circles for him, he intends to fight. Just an outstanding episode.

I'd like to expand on the metaphor of the cave.
Imperial citizens are shackled in the cave watching the illusionary shadows of Palpatines new Empire. Crosshair knows that the reality he maintains is illusionary and is allegorical to the shadow movers in the metaphor of the cave.

I know it was a little muddled through the dialogue, but the closed captions referred to the bird-like creatures as ice vultures. Not really predatory like a lot of their raptor cohorts, but a powerful symbol nonetheless.

Believe that sleeze-ball Nolan sent them on a suicide mission. Mayday objected on going not just b/c his men died but b/c he knew it was a bad idea ; he knows the area & the enemy better than Nolan. Nolan sent them away knowing the retrieval of the cargo was completely pointless b/c there were large shipments on the way. He wanted Mayday dead for talking back at him
