I'm a gh5 user not looking to switch but j just want to say: the hotel sequences could pass as an apple commercial easily. You have an eye for this stuff.
The footage looks great Spencer. You can really see the depth of that 10bit codec and the highlight roll off is very pleasing. Would be interested to see a comparison with the BMPCC4K/6K for sure. Keep up the excellent work.
So I own the s1h pocket4k and Zcam e2, in my opinion, the pocket4k with a speed booster has the best image overall. my big issue with the s1h is the IBIS being pretty bad when moving o the point it warps your footage. (this is very noticeable with longer focal lengths) A rolling shutter is bad also. Im also not a fan of grading the s1h footage, it doesn't feel natural at all and I have to do a lot to it to get it to where I want it to be.
So glad you tested this camera. I’ve been researching the S1H to add to my kit since it was announced! Still need to rent it soon for a project but this definitely helped hearing your perspective & seeing it in action. Keep it up man!
A buddy of mine really debated about whether or not to get the Pocket 6K or the S1H and he decided to get the S1H and he’s has been extremely happy with the image. I’m really curious to see how the S1H stacks up against the pocket in their native iso performances!
Reflectors and sunlight sure speed up a shoot. When the talent works for free they have less patience for setting up sound and lighting. I'm glad your wife is willing to help you out with your shoots! I'm guessing she got to chose where you went to eat afterwards.

The Truth Reviews Someone made a comparison between the Pocket 6K and the S1H. 6K has a touch better image, but honestly it’s close. Personally I like the S1H as a rounded off kit.
If you can get past the rigging, I’d say go for BMPCC4K - stellar image, raw and great price. But also think about your style of shooting, for documentary work, maybe S1H is more suitable (great out of the box)
Gerald Undone tested the nikon Z6 with n log. It is full 12stops. He tested S1h also. V -log provided 12.6 stops. So Nikon and Lumix are not looking much different in terms of dynamic range ! What do u say? Is ur experience different?
I know it doesn't matter from a "cinema camera" perspective but I really wish they included some form of useable autofocus in this puppy. That would have literally made it the perfect all around camera.
The path to the s1h for me: Sony a7s, a7r, a7s ii, a7r ii, bmpcc, GH5... Out of all of these the s1h has by far the best DR. It's 14 stops for sure by my eye, surpassing by a full stop the original pocket raw which is seriously close to 13 stops. It's way better than both the a7s ii and GH5. Personally with the feature set and performance, I don't consider it a mirrorless camera. It's the first true cinema camera in a mirrorless form factor. This will be the last camera I buy for quite a while...
As a pro B-roll camera the IBIS puts it over the top. Oh the poor suffering wife of a vlogger. Mine had to be an elf in my last video. Nicely done btw.
Great job on this video! I tried shooting 6k on my S1h and while it's a nice addition, it's not a must-have feature for me. I've mostly done 4k 10-bit 4/2/2L and it's more than enough for most of my projects and the colors are great on it. Do you use any LUTS for it?
I started with the base vlog lut but it was way too magenta for me so I balanced it out after. Actually the arri rec709 LUT worked as a decent starter too, still needed some adjustments tho.
Great to see this camera in use. I love the image. I wish it had a Raw option though, or could output Raw, but maybe Panasonic is saving that for the Eva2. It's weird how Panasonic put twin SD card slots on the S1H and not the S1; the S1H is the camera that needed XQD/CFast2.0/CFXpress to record Raw internally. It's actually great to hear that you can really push the codec like a Raw codec. Can you easily change the white balance like you can with Raw footage (asking for a friend)? Yes, dynamic range is often inflated by manufacturers; I usually do a 10 stop over and 10 stop under test to see what the camera is actually doing, it often supersedes dual-native anything (I met Steve Yedlin once, this was his recommendation. I've been doing this ever since). The S1H has the same sensor as the ZCam F6, would love to see you review the F6, a full cinema camera; it's like a mini RED. Would love to see more footage and test videos from the S1H, thanks for this video!

I’m asking, because you have one and I recently dropped my padded camera bag from about three feet and I’m trying to figure out if the noise I’m hearing was present before the fall. In other words, that it’s normal. My camera functions perfectly fine and the fall wasn’t super hard, but still, would like to hear from a real user. Thanks for any and all help!
What adapter did u use for the cannon lens?
Why are you drinking in the shot? Are you an alcoholic? You can wait till evening?
You should def check out the Z Cam E2 F6, I believe they have the same sensor!
When they are officially out I’ll definitely try!
Great review I like how informative you are & that sequence was dope 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I definitely have to rent this camera before I think about buying it
More on S1H please!!
Spencer I would love to know if I could get the same look with the Panasonic S5 which has just been released as it's a full frame camera
This camera is amazing for live events, notably because of the IBIS.
Worth upgrading from a GH5S for this in your opinion?
Oh yes. It’s like a Gh5s but full frame and more DR
@@spensersakurai Thanks, I'll start saving up. Does it take the same metabones speedbooster .71 for Canon lenses?
@@Fathom216 It's full frame. no need for a speed booster. Youll need a L to ef mount for canon
I prefer the contrast of the other camera you use for talking head shots. Great skintones
Ursa mini 4.6k
How well does it do when shooting stills?
I love your videos man! I've watched every single one. I'd love to see a bmpcc vs s1h too. The colors here look perfect, looks like the Canon and the Panasonic work well here.
what do you think compared to the G2 of Black Magic ?
s1H with an anamorphic lens must be good.
thanks for your video :)
My problem with the camera is just the cost of the lenses - is probably opt to just get old vintage glass and adapt it to get the best out of it.
I shot on a beautiful $200 vintage lens the whole time.
@@spensersakurai Lovely! :D I want to build a vintage set :P
Awesome video! Would love to see a direct comparison of the DR in the same scene with this and a cinema camera and maybe even another mirrorless if you have one so we can see the difference.
what would the a7siii need to rival the s1h or a bmpcc 6k?
It looks amazing but I actually see microjitters the whole time it's handheld. I wonder if they will just eventually patch that or if the IBIS in it is just not as good.
It looks like he has the IBIS turned off there
looks amazing
Funny i've been all over the S1H the last few months.
Mark Holtze are you gonna take the plunge ? Or wait for the... A7S3....
@@aram.v Took the plunge, been waiting for the A73 for 2 years now...don't really see any indication it's coming any time soon. It really feels like this could BE the A7Siii in almost every way, except the fact it's out now and is tangible.
From what i'm seeing from the Siii rumours as well, doesn't look like it will be a significant enough MP bump for stills calling for 18mp...but they're just rumours.
So far, I'm REALLY digging this camera. I can see why Spenser spoke so highly over it and I'm still in the shallow end with it.
Mark Holtze how are you enjoying adapting vintage lenses to it? Have you tinkered w anamorphic adapters with vintage lenses. It’s very interesting
@@aram.v Right now I'm using the Sigma EF to L adapter and using my M42-EOS and C/Y-EOS adapters on those lenses and I'm REAAAALLY happy with the results.I haven't tinkered with anamorphic yet, something on the list of things to eventually try!
@Mark Holtze I'd love to see a comparison video with your A7SII and S1H with adapted vintage glass! Skin tones, dynamic range, etc. Thank you for the response! Big fan
looks great! If only the AF was any good on Panasonic cameras
Wait for komodo... i suspect a game changer..
YESSSS!
Yeah but the Komodo is going be sold out before y0u can even blink let’s be honest
James Handley I can wait, by then all the bug fixes will have been done and also rental houses will have them and I suspect at 6kish they will be cheap to rent
What’s up with that green tint ?
Style choice.
I wish you didn't use bounce so you could stress the dynamic range of the S1H more.
if only it has deadly autofocus as canon's dual pixel af.
almost a perfect vid cam
I love your videos please do one for the 6d mark ii, It's basically my budget and I need a camera for both video(short wedding films(trailers)) and pictures. I have a canon t6 so my 50mm f1.8 will work with it, same mount and all. Please, or even make recommendations of the same budget as the 6d mark ii , il just get a mount.
can you do a video on your views on apsc vs full frame? it would to interesting to listen on your thoughts on it
I saw a Panasonic S1H second hand for 2,400 UK Pounds like three months ago
