    I found my RAR really inly likes CCI Standard , I have tried around nine different types and brands so far and the Standards are miles ahead .

    I found my way to your channel today while looking for pre purchase info on a RAR. I ended watching the playlist up to part 12. You are one patient man, my hat is off to you for sticking with it.
    My personal gunsmithing ablities stop before part 12. I will probably just pick up a CZ457, and give it my attention if required. You turned your rifle into a real shooter and should be proud of. I don't want to go through a 12 step process (and "real" gunsmith expenses) to get the kind of accuracy I am looking for. Liked and subscribed!

      Thank you for your compliments. The RAR is a great rifle and I enjoyed tinkering with it as well as the challenge of documenting the process. Even without making any improvements to the RAR, I'm comfortable recommending it to a casual shooter or beginner.

    Ive really enjoyed this RAR series, I do thoroughly enjoy tinkering with .22lr rifles, especially budget minded rifles like this just to see what i can get them to do.

      Thank you for your kind words. We "tinkerers" need to stick together. Have a great day!

    I like your methological approach to shooting. I approach reloading different calibers the same way.
    My RAR. 22 is on order. I plan to follow your advice to attempt to make the rifle shoot to its potential.
    Thank you once again.

    Just an observation many 22 target rifles very rarely get cleaned during the season they get a clean at the end of the season and dried out at the start and carry on. Might be worth a try ,also check your breathing ,the number of rounds you have shot each day suggests you could be in a hurry which does not produce good results.

      Hi John,
      Thanks for your note. We too often forget the fundamentals like proper breathing, etc. Over three days, it took roughly 8-10 hours of shooting to accumulate the groups and I never felt rushed. I was in the frame of mind to enjoy the process, not to hurry up and get it done.
      My bench is solid and the rifle is supported front and rear.
      The only movement I could detect was my heartbeat in the scope.
      Every two targets, I had to take a break to change targets. I also wanted to see if there were any trends with a clean bore as it got some rounds on it; that's why I set up the test the way I did to include cleaning every couple hundred rounds. Unfortunately, I probably won't run another experiment of this scale again. It took a lot of ammo and time. But you never know.
      Have a great day,
      John

    Best data driven shooting presentation I’ve seen on TH-cam. Enjoyed the test plan explanations also… thank you

      @@dauntlessendeavors1000 question for you Sir- looks like you mounted your scope directly to the 3/8” dovetail, do you consider that superior to adding a picatinny rail and mounting to that?
      The height over bore would likely increase, but if you were to take the scope on and off, could a pic rail improve repeatability?
      I don’t have much experience mounting directly to 3/8 dovetail….

    • @dauntlessendeavors1000
      @dauntlessendeavors1000  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@matthewmichaelee I’m using Weaver style two-piece bases, which are screwed to the action. Picatinny rails are nice, too, and their standardized slot dimensions do allow fast switching of scope from one rifle to another without having to adjust the ring location.
      On the other hand, two-piece bases leave the rifle with a cleaner look and better access to the action.
      I am not at all a fan of the bases or rings which clamp directly to the 3/8” dovetail. They depend only upon friction to keep the scope from moving forward or backward. The unfortunate outcome of this is that people end up tightening the bejeepers out of the screws, which tend to leave permanent scars on the dovetail. All other base/ring systems depend on friction AND a mechanical blockage to prevent fore/aft movement.

    • @dauntlessendeavors1000
      @dauntlessendeavors1000  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the weaver system and the Picatinny systems both provide remarkable repeatability. Removing and replacing the scope on either base usually puts the bullets within an inch or two (at 100 yds) of the previous sighting. I wouldn't depend on any system to put the bullets in the same hole without confirming my scope adjustments on paper, though.

      @@dauntlessendeavors1000 thank you very much for the detailed reply, I’ll have to look in to the weaver system that screws in. Do you recall the brand you are using?
      Makes sense about the dovetail mount - I will avoid that. Appreciate your time

    Have you ever done any testing to see what the rifle likes? It seems like I here you shooting the same 3 ammo types. A few months ago I tested 20 different 22 lr types in my rar and cz. Cci mini mag was not in the top of the list. Both my rifles shot cci standard velocity and Norma tac 22 very well. In most cases neither rifle liked the expensive stuff. Try shooting a few 5 round groups of each.

      Thanks for your comment. When I made this video series, ammo was in very short supply, so I used what I had.
      I stand by my assertion that an accurate rifle will shoot well with many kinds of ammo and accurate ammo will shoot well in many rifles. I would never take CCI Mini Mags to a bench rest match but I do consider it to be good quality, very reliable, general-purpose 22LR ammo. I think it is much more likely to be used in a rifle like the RAR than say Lapua Center-X and I believe it is good enough to indicate trends of improved accuracy if any of my experiments should actually improve the accuracy of the rifle.
      Thanks again for watching.

    To improve accuracy in most 22-caliber or any bolt action rifle, make adjustments to the action screw different inch torque settings. It seems to help a lot to improve the accuracy or buy a barrel tuner. I just purchased RAR 18" barrel threaded muzzle end one day ago maybe range next week.

    The price gouging is messed up, found a 800 pk think they wanted 180.00 for it.

    At 5:29, the extreme spread of groups shows about 1.2" from best to worst in the 'before' shooting, and about 1.7" in the 'after' shooting. If you throw out the worst group in the 'before' shots and the worst group in the 'after' shots (interesting that the 'before' worst came late in the series and the 'after' worst came early in the series), you still have a significantly greater spread in the 'after' groups, about 3/4" to about 1.3". The big difference is that the best groups in the 'after' shooting are much better. Most of the groups are about the same.
    I have been shooting 5-shot groups, so I haven't observed the 1 out of ten flyers you mentioned.
    I find MiniMag to be a good base ammo. It performs very well in my semi-auto Glenfield, reliable, consistent, and accurate enough for any use short of competition.
    Thank you for the work you are doing.

      In trying to understand all the data I'd collected, I did a deep dive into all the numbers and statistics. I finally decided that the shear "randomness" of a flyer can be such a killer to a good group or series of groups. One flyer might zing out of the group by 3/4" and then next one might go 2". Pretty tough to predict. When the data is noisy, make lots of it.

    Ruger rimfire rifles here in Europe, are just far too expensive for what you are getting. For example the cheapest RAR here costs $ 670, a RPR costs up to $ 970. For comparison a CZ 457 MTR 20" costs $ 810, and it beats the Ruger in quality and performance.

    • @dauntlessendeavors1000
      @dauntlessendeavors1000  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is very interesting and I had no idea how expensive these rifles are in Europe. Thanks for sharing. I agree, for a similar cost, I would take the CZ every time.

    What target is that you were using?

    • @dauntlessendeavors1000
      @dauntlessendeavors1000  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is the NRA 50' Small Bore Rifle Target. 11 bullseyes per target (counting sighter bull) and they are usually far enough apart that groups don't overlap at 50 yards.
