What I like to do with my Pokemon playthrough teams is making sure I have no overlapping types on my team. (For example, if I had a fire type, I won't have a second fire type; if I hade a normal type, I wouldn't have a second normal type, etc.)
I do that usually but in later gens I just happen to not care sometimes because the Pokemon just seem to fit together (or I make up a story for them being on my team). Like in Ultra Moon currently I have: Starmie (Water/Psychic) Toxapex (Water/Poison) and Salazzle (Fire/Poison)
Are u kidding me m8? :'D happy birthday to ya again!(; I'll definitely get the eeveelution t-shit! Is this a miracle?! I just yesterday downloaded Pokemon red vc?!;D thx mystic! Great gift
Great video! It's not really a complain, but strength is missing and it's necessary to go through victory road. So either I give up on one of the moves here for snorlax or get hm slave. But having hm slave for that part of the game is very inconvenient. Otherwise amazing video, thanks.
I finished a playthrough of Pokemon Blue earlier this summer. My team was... Blastoise Graveler (Yes Graveler. Took it to the Elite 4 and everything. Did especially well against Agatha, Lance, and Blue's teams.) Victreebel Hypno Ninetales Zapdos
I’ve accumulated a bunch of game boy color’s and multiple cartridges for all 3, Red, Blue, and Yellow, I used one game just as a big save file, and Rare Candy/ TM/HM farm, I used another game to keep getting the 3 starter Pokemon, to the point I had 10 of each, used other games to get the version exclusions, and trade evolves, traded all those to one game cartridge, then started a new red, blue and yellow, using only the starters, or basically all the guys you shouldn’t have. It was a lot of work but it’s sweet seeing a Pokédex with only the guys you can never get, but none of the commons.
Growth is absolutely worthless on this Venusaur due to, 1), crits ignoring _all_ boosts and, 2), Venusaur having a 100% crit rate with Razor Leaf. You'd be better off using a Normal move - like Hyper Beam, Body Slam or Take Down - or something like Sleep Powder to disable (Grass/)Poison types, which would pretty much wall Venusaur. Also, Jolteon is better off with Thunderbolt against most Psychic-types, including Sabrina's entire team. Pin Missile is only worth considering for a Grass/Psychic or Grass/Poison because of 4x effectiveness and their resistance to Thunderbolt.
I think this should be obvious, but yes the team works on VC, and no there is no Physical Special split, it's a direct port of the game with the only change being wireless communication for multiplayer stuff like trading and battling
I swear to God. I've never watched this video before but you're basically suggesting the Pokémon I tend to choose in RBY as my team except for Gyarados over Jynx ❤️ ❤️ Just for this you earned a subscriber!
8:57 Uh I just remembered that in Gen 1 the mechanics were whacked and Psychic types weren't weak to bug type attacks. And i don't think they fixed that when they released the games on Nintendo shop. Honestly when it comes to psychic types in gen 1 your better off using a tanky Pokemon that can hit hard. Like Snorlax or Sandslash.
Mystic, you have no idea how right you are about the toxic/leech combo being amazing. Back in gen 1, there was an exploit in the coding of toxic where it made all after turn effect damage double, not just its own. This obviously extends to leech seed as well which doubles the recovery you get from it every turn as well. Couple that with the way Razor Leaf would have a 100% critical hit chance and in red and blue Venusaur isn’t just the best starter typing wise, it’s also got one of the most broken and exploitable move pools in the game considering it also gets body slam which paralyzes and inherently cuts your opponent’s crit chance by 3/4.
I would like to point out something about Dodrio's moveset. Tri Attack can't inflict status ailments in Gen 1. It's really stupid, I know, but it wasn't until Gen 2 that it gained that property. That said, 80 power is nothing to sneeze at, so it's still viable if you don't want to suffer Double-Edge's recoil.
My dream team was 1 Blastoise 2 Raichu 3 Nidoking 4 Snorlax 5 Alakazam 6 dragonite I loved this team its bulky and powerful has my favorite dragon pokemon and did really awesome in the pokemon stadium gym challange.
You shouldve given jynx blizzard! Its 120 power and a 30% chance to freeze! Freeze could only be cured if hit with a fire move! And if you think its accuracy is too low, its accuracy was actually 90 back then! And instead if metrnonome, give it amnesia!
Justin Kiel Montano Well, this is gen 1, and I swept with jynx. All of erikas pokemon died in a single ice punch, for sabrina I could set up amnesias and hit with blizzard and I could do this to anyone just as long as they didnt have any of jynxes weaknesses
The only real downside to blizzard here is that it only has 5 PP so marathoning with it can be a bit of a pain in the ass as opposed to ice beam's 10 PP. Solution? Run both moves lol
Hey Mystic, just posting to say I just beat Pokemon Red with this team! Overall, I had a fair amount of fun, as once the team really came together, it was almost too easy to go through everything. Best team, indeed.
The hell are you talking about? Dodrio doesn't get Swords Dance in the early games, and Swords Dance would be useless on Dodrio anyways because of his high crit rate and crit rate negating boosts.
Like amnesia in gen 1 is too op cuz it raises both special attack and special defense because it was one stat + snorlax have access to fire blast and/or surf so he is sweeper when you can get like 2 amnesias on
As a last move slot for jynx you could use bubble beam (tm 11) this tm is given to you by misty after you defeat her and can give jynx a counter to fire types
Hey these are awesome videos keep it up I’ve been playing all of these games getting ready for sword and shield so if you don’t see where this is going🤣 I use these for every game building my team you’ve made me love some mons I would’ve never used thanks man
Can you possibly do a remastered team for x and y The three pokemon in that would stay the same are greninja, venasuar and aegislash. The other 3 might need to be change.
Anothger thing about pin missle is that in gen 1, bug is super effective against poison (For some reason). Meaning that it is quad effective against not only exeggutor, but the other grass/poison types. If it crits, it will most likely kill.
Poison mons aren't weak to bug types in RBY, but they don't resist bug moves. Since there's a lot of grass-poison mons, bug type moves are still super effective against them.
Growth with razor leaf isn't complementary since critical hits ignore stat boosts and with venusaurs base speed, razor leaf crits everytime. The only use is for the defensive side of the special stat.
Don't you nned HM strength for victory road? And what about HM cut? Do you expect me to catch an HM slave and deposit it before going against the elite 4? If so then why do i need a trained Fly slave? Or surfe slave? there is some free space in the move slots, why didn't you fill it with the needed HMs?

What I like to do with my Pokemon playthrough teams is making sure I have no overlapping types on my team.
(For example, if I had a fire type, I won't have a second fire type; if I hade a normal type, I wouldn't have a second normal type, etc.)
Same
I think most people do that
I do that usually but in later gens I just happen to not care sometimes because the Pokemon just seem to fit together (or I make up a story for them being on my team).
Like in Ultra Moon currently I have:
Starmie (Water/Psychic)
Toxapex (Water/Poison) and
Salazzle (Fire/Poison)
Can't wait for yellow cuz I love that game "Pokémon ditch Pikachu"
Currently coming to the end of a Blue run and my team is so similar to this.
Venasaur
Sandslash
Jolteon
Fearow
Snorlax
Lapras
venusaur=starter
sandslash=not rare
jolteon=celadon mansion
fearow=not rare
snorlax=pokeflute
lapras=saffron team rocket hideout
3/6 :D...!!!
Hey mystic in the best kalis team you said bulbasaur was the best in erizos video but kalos is completely different so is it still better
Probably, but X/Y are easy in general so you could run any starter and still be good
True
you can even use a full grass/fire/rock ( I think you get the idea ) team and still beat the game
"Watch out for hitmonchan's elemental punches".
Me: 34 special stat, Nahhw I don't watch out.
“Well my level 100 Ratata is flawless compared to this”
No body:
Mistic: shirts on sale!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blizzard has 90 accuracy in Gen 1. So instead of metronome, give Jynx Blizzard
Aakash Rai It Only has 5 PP, though.
@@beta511ee4 but its waaay better than Metronome
Happy Birthday Mystic
*Rick and Morty watching this video*
"Naturally the pokemon that will be replacing Nidoking is Dugtrio"
Rick: See, this guy gets it.
We need to make a petition to make the “Shepherds delight” shirts name to mooloo
I've actually been waiting for this....
I finished a playthrough of Pokemon Blue earlier this summer. My team was...
Blastoise
Graveler (Yes Graveler. Took it to the Elite 4 and everything. Did especially well against Agatha, Lance, and Blue's teams.)
Victreebel
Hypno
Ninetales
Zapdos
Graveler. Favorite Rock Pokemon because I couldn't trade back then. Very reliable
@@LevelZeroSage1 Yes! Thank you! I feel the same way 👍
Raichu > Zapdos
Is it weird to admit that whenever I do a playthrough of Pokémon Red, I always set my team up based on Red’s team in the Pokémon Manga?😅
Give Jynx Bubblebeam for Fire type weaknesses.
Just use STAB Ice moves. Fire didn't resist Ice in the early games
Dude r u gonna play thru wit these teams or nah
Edit: Pokemon Showdown here i come
My team years ago is venusaur,Arcanine, lapras, snorlax,Dragonite and mew :)
What about hm s?
I was waiting for your reaction and opinions of the new trailer for SW/SH this week
Happy Birthday Mystic 🥳🥳
Can you make a video about the best team for red and blue with no restrictions, too, please?
I’ve accumulated a bunch of game boy color’s and multiple cartridges for all 3, Red, Blue, and Yellow, I used one game just as a big save file, and Rare Candy/ TM/HM farm, I used another game to keep getting the 3 starter Pokemon, to the point I had 10 of each, used other games to get the version exclusions, and trade evolves, traded all those to one game cartridge, then started a new red, blue and yellow, using only the starters, or basically all the guys you shouldn’t have.
It was a lot of work but it’s sweet seeing a Pokédex with only the guys you can never get, but none of the commons.
i donated Mystic T~T to your patrons
Thanks for the video and happy birthday Mystic
I have 2 questions
1. Does this work for virtual console?
2. Is there a physical special split in virtual console?
I think this should be obvious, but yes the team works on VC, and no there is no Physical Special split, it's a direct port of the game with the only change being wireless communication for multiplayer stuff like trading and battling
@@metalheadcinema thx!
They were only weak to bug attacks, but there aren't strong bug attacks, the mistake was that it was immune to ghost instead of weak
OMG YES DUDE!!!!!!! I WAS HOPING FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!!!
Happy birthday Mystic! Great vid
I still can't agree with Jynx. But still, great video.
jynx is great. what are you on?
Replace with Starmie or Lapras
@@xyzzy-dv6te Starmie is version exclusive hence why it isn't on there.
Although, in Gen 1, you can avoid Double-Edge's recoil if you kill something. Similar to Hyper Beam bypassing the recharge turn if you kill something.
@@shadowtitanx3962 That's only the case in Pokemon Stadium. In the Gameboy titles, recoil can only be avoided if the move breaks a substitute.
Couldn't dugtrio do good against Blue's pidgeot with rock slide?
My dream team was
1 Blastoise
2 Raichu
3 Nidoking
4 Snorlax
5 Alakazam
6 dragonite
I loved this team its bulky and powerful has my favorite dragon pokemon and did really awesome in the pokemon stadium gym challange.
You shouldve given jynx blizzard! Its 120 power and a 30% chance to freeze! Freeze could only be cured if hit with a fire move! And if you think its accuracy is too low, its accuracy was actually 90 back then! And instead if metrnonome, give it amnesia!
Justin Kiel Montano Its only a 10%, and the benefits outway the negatives
Why did you say that Koga's Gym can be beaten by pin missile when poison resist bug
In gen 1 for some reason bug type was super effective against poison type
In Gen 1 (and Gen 1 only) Poison and Bug can deal super effective damage against each other.
Btw. No music background? 😱
I feel so validated by Jolteon. It was my top 'mon in my best campaign (I was a kid), but since then people have told me it wasn't good.
On Dodrio, replace Double-Edge with Swords Dance. That makes up for the power gap and makes him an absolute unit.
The hell are you talking about? Dodrio doesn't get Swords Dance in the early games, and Swords Dance would be useless on Dodrio anyways because of his high crit rate and crit rate negating boosts.
@@smaragdchaos Yep, you're right. I got my mechanics mixed up and completely forgot positive stat changes got ignored prior to gen 3.
Carry on.
WHAT!!?!? NO AMNESIA ON SNORLAX? You disapointed me Mystic
Good point, damn
Edit: wait SnoBro is the one who really needs it
Like amnesia in gen 1 is too op cuz it raises both special attack and special defense because it was one stat + snorlax have access to fire blast and/or surf so he is sweeper when you can get like 2 amnesias on
The classic Blobberfly swimming technique.
As a last move slot for jynx you could use bubble beam (tm 11) this tm is given to you by misty after you defeat her and can give jynx a counter to fire types
Sticking to my opinion and scince w/kylehill's scientific proof that squirtle is the best starter pokemon.
Also would like to see you play this team either live/as a walk-through...
Hey these are awesome videos keep it up
I’ve been playing all of these games getting ready for sword and shield so if you don’t see where this is going🤣 I use these for every game building my team you’ve made me love some mons I would’ve never used thanks man
In pokemon Red, you can get Diglett ( or Dugtrio if you're really lucky)
before Misty
In gen 1, tri attack can't freeze/burn/paralyze. It just does damage in this gen.
True, but still a strong attack without it and still the superior flying type in this gym
@@eastbeast1827 Oh 100%. Dodrio is the way to go in Gen 1.
Venusaur/ivysaur/bulbasaur is my favourite pokemon
Can you possibly do a remastered team for x and y
The three pokemon in that would stay the same are greninja, venasuar and aegislash. The other 3 might need to be change.
Where can I catch doduo or dodtrio because my audio was messing up
Safari Zone
Anothger thing about pin missle is that in gen 1, bug is super effective against poison (For some reason). Meaning that it is quad effective against not only exeggutor, but the other grass/poison types. If it crits, it will most likely kill.
Poison mons aren't weak to bug types in RBY, but they don't resist bug moves. Since there's a lot of grass-poison mons, bug type moves are still super effective against them.
With trade evolutions in gold, silver, crystal, hg, and ss, Steelix should be on. Only 1 gym advantage away from doing good against 3/4ths of the gyms
The HM, what happen with the HM like cut?
is blizzard nerfed in remasterd or why not blizzard over ice beam?
Growth with razor leaf isn't complementary since critical hits ignore stat boosts and with venusaurs base speed, razor leaf crits everytime. The only use is for the defensive side of the special stat.
Don't you nned HM strength for victory road?
And what about HM cut?
Do you expect me to catch an HM slave and deposit it before going against the elite 4?
If so then why do i need a trained Fly slave? Or surfe slave?
there is some free space in the move slots, why didn't you fill it with the needed HMs?
Well time to boot up my Pokémon Blue VC on my 3DS and try out this team. Thanks for the video.
You only have Bulbasaur until after the second gym.
What if i usually box my starter? I don’t generally use the starter.
