Kill pens are a necessity in the real world. Keeping horses is expensive care horrendous. It's a waste of resources to just bury carcasses. Horse meat is used in a lot of pet foods and actually is eaten all over the world. Instead of rescuing two or three here and there, perhaps steps should be taken to destigmatize the horse slaughter industry and make it more humane and better. Canada has done just that, with safe and ethical treatment of meat horses. There are two sides to every story.
@fionajane56 There are more than 2 sides, which is part of the problem. Many US horses have drugs in their systems which disqualifies them as healthy meat. Pet, or humans. They have drugs bc they are lame, sick, or aggressive. Our system is broken. Owners and veterinarians need to put them down on site and not traumatized them more. Just another view here. Respectfully...
@@fionajane56No, sometimes there's twenty seven sides to a story. How do we criticize the dog meat market when we treat another animal classified as a pet as meat instead?
@@littlewiseowl4405gree! What needs to happen but most likely never will, is to regulate breeding so that we don't get inundated with all of these horses. As long as there is a paying market & no other paying alternative, desperate or uncaring people will send their equines to auction where traders buy some of them for the meat market.
because people mostly want small, thin legged horses like in the movies. Drafts are not appreciated as much. It`s getting better though, saw 2 percherons giving rides at a ranch today
They send the draft horses because they have grown to old to work. Mostly the Amish. If they have to pay to feed it then it best earn its weight. This is how farmers think. They are not pets they are like tractors. They do not see them as living souls. Very sad.
yes the amish seem to figure quite prominently in animal abuse and sending to slaughter rescues. they need to improve their sense of compassion and reduced their sense of entitlement, exploitation and killing of animals becuase it seems very psychopathic.@@Sophiecjp

It’s so cruel to raise horses, especially together, and then just let them end up in a kill pen. Could you imagine the heartbreak those two would’ve had if they’d gone to separate places? The work y’all are doing is amazing, and as much as I love watching your videos I was wondering if you allow visitors to your farm? Julie, I have an idea if you have time. How about a video that introduces each horse in the order that you acquired them? As I watch, I am trying to memorize who is who!!! Lol!! Love what you are doing!!
I love watching all your videos. I had an idea of T-shirts with pictures of each house and their name!!! It's amazing what you're doing. I don't know which horse is me favorite. I do love seeing Liam and Charlie a lot. God bless you!!!
I really like to have horses get access to food all day. Some people use hay bags. What do you think? And as far as shoes are concerned, I’ve heard that many in the horse world aren’t fans (I hope you don’t mind questions). Another one-- lots of people prefer rope halters and avoid tying the horse unless a special clip was used to let the horse break free in an emergency. Thank you so much for sharing all your wonderful work.
Our horses have access to food all day. In the winter we have square bales of hay out for them and even though the pasture is not green they still eat the grass out there. They also eat alpha pro 2 times per day.
I don’t prefer the rope halters. Our horses are so large that the rope halters don’t seem to fit well. Our horses are not in halters when they are here on the farm. Only if they are getting their hooves worked on or the vet is here and they are never left unattended.
@@FletcherFarmsAmarillo Thank you so much. Of course those rope halyards wouldn’t work. What was I thinking?? There’s no question you take amazing care of these majestic horses. I wish I could be there personally helping out with them.
I love watching these good horses saved so they can have a retirement. I'm a bit sad for Dutch. Lena loved him and he protected her. What a hussy she is; but Finn is a very handsome big boy. Dutch found a friend, at least. The drone footage on your intro shows the ranch in Winter and it looks very bleak. Now that there is fresh grass, please show us by drone the now green fields!
Thank you for bring attention to the kill pens. I was totally ignorant of this sad situation. Bless you for rescuing these amazing horses.

Can’t believe Lena dropped poor Dutch but I don’t blame her really - Finn is very very handsome🐴❤️💕
Can the Amish be prosecuted for animal abuse?
Love your videos, and thank you for what you do to help these beautiful horses.
No, not a breakup😢
Julie, I have an idea if you have time. How about a video that introduces each horse in the order that you acquired them? As I watch, I am trying to memorize who is who!!! Lol!! Love what you are doing!!
Just ordered a t-shirt! Thank you for all you do for these amazing horses! ❤
Yay! Thank you! We appreciate your support!
I love watching all your videos. I had an idea of T-shirts with pictures of each house and their name!!! It's amazing what you're doing. I don't know which horse is me favorite. I do love seeing Liam and Charlie a lot. God bless you!!!
Thank you so much! We are going to do other shirts eventually. We have some neat things coming up!
Such beautiful creatures 🥰
Thank you so much!
So beautiful🐎🐴💞
WOOT, explained to hubby we donating to Y’all he wants to come see Y’all. Soooo, future plans when things settle down.
Such a joy to watch these videos. Thanks.
