Update on the two newest rescued Belgian Draft Horse geldings saved from shipping to slaughter Ep.95

Episode 95
Last week, because of your support, we were able raise the funds we needed to rescue two more Belgian Draft Horse gelding from shipping to slaughter. This video is from when we picked them up from Bowie Texas Livestock and brought them home to their forever retirement home. One of the geldings is extremely underweight and the other looks healthy but he doesn't trust us and is keeping his distance. Which means we need to work with him before we can take him to the vet or for farrier work. In this video, we reveal the name of the two new gelding too! We are very excited to have these beautiful horses join our farm!
We also had an emergency last weekend with Anna. Anna was rescued 2 years ago from a livestock yard in Kemp, Texas. She was skin and bones when we rescued her but Anna was a fighter and she has been living her best retirement life filled with lots of food and love. This past weekend she was down in the pasture and had to call our vet out for assistance. This is an update on what happened with Anna as well.

Another way to support us is with feed...the one item WE always need is FEED! If you would like to send a gift/donation of feed (Alfa Pro or beardless wheat) you can send that through our local feed store, HF & C Amarillo. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo/Big Hoof Foundation and they will add the gifts to our account.
Alfa-Pro is a complete pelleted alfalfa mixed with vitamins and minerals. Alfa-Pro is $17.45 per bag. They do offer a discount if you purchase by the pallet (40 - 50 pound bags) $16.95 per bag if purchased by the pallet.
We are also feeding round bales of beardless wheat and the horses go through about 2 bales every few days. A round bale of beardless wheat is $140. We also use small square bales of beardless wheat and can be purchased through HF&C Amarillo for $14.95 each.

If you would like to send the horses a gift of alfalfa you can do that through Mauls Feed and Seed. We use Mauls for alfalfa because it is grown locally here in Amarillo and they are priced the best in town.
