Harbor Freight knocked these lights outta the park!
I think the side shot of the lights should be out in the field instead next to the garage door. I think you were getting some garage door light bounce off for the lux comparison. Other than that great video. The HF lights are impressive for the price. Better than I thought.
Dude I loved your video! Thanks for this I bought the knock off's cause that's what I could afford but I'm happy with those, I accidentally dropped them on the floor from about 1.9mts and they're working 100%
This is plain incredible. Getting to see them in action helped a lot. The Baja Design lights are awesome, but to supplement a good set of stock headlights they may not be so necessary. Those Harbor Freight lamps seem like theybwould work excellently with a good set of stock headlights.
Right on! That is exactly my thought as well. Hack I can also supplement the HF with a pair of smaller Baja's squadron light pods on the side if I want more zone 3 performance.
Great comparison! Any chance you want to do the same comparison with the smaller set of new HF ones as well? 😄 I just picked up a set of the colight trailblazer lights otherwise I’d definitely pick up a set of these HF. Nice job 👍
thank you. I didn’t do the smaller Hf since it really only had one competitor being lp4, also it has two beam pattern options, I’d say if you have a row of four HF smaller pods, two spot in the middle and two combo on the side would be more than enough. I do like the backlight shape of the colight trailblazer but didn’t have a chance to test them out.
@@4WDisLife gotcha, the colight trailblazer for the cost I think are great. Very happy with them so far. I also have a set of their 3 inch dual color pods and they have been good too. But it’s always nice to have reasonably priced and good quality options. Thanks again 👍
Loved the review, really impressed with HB and mostly with BD. 1k for a pair is still tough. Do you think the novsight halo 6 inches could compete in this segment?
A long term durability test would be good. I run Baja Designs lights (light bar, pillar lights, chase lights) on my Raptor and I’ve done thousands of miles of high speed off-roading. The lights have never failed once. I’m curious if Harbor Freight would hold up the same. If yes, then at that price they are a very good option.
It is great to know that Baja’s light been working well for you through out time. For the Harbor freight I have actually done a torture test to one of my lights (run over with my truck, water submerged for 4 days and froze it and hammered it out of block of ice), it held up great for what I tested, and it has been almost a year since I purchased them and they still work well. I will definitely throw a long term review when it hits a year mark and keep people posted. Cheers.
Well put together video! Rather shocked at the HF lights! I too have had very good results with the Auxbeam lights as well, especially for their price.
Thanks and I have not tested the amp drawn. FWIW, it does say wiring for one light requires 14gauge wires and two lights require for 12 gauge wires, which is identical to what Baja is calling for in their user manual.
Thank you for this. I have a 2022 Tundra and want to get some of the HF lights, and this really really helps. But I do have a question. Do you think these could be mounted on hood mounts (Up by the windshield) and still function well? My concern is that the HF may illuminate the hood very brightly and be counterproductive to true vision. Thoughts? (Any response would be welcome and I would be thankful. )
Hi, thanks for the comment, I would not recommend using these HF lights on the ditch light location (a pillar above hood) because they are so wide they will definitely blind the drivers and passengers when turned on. On the ditch light location, I personally would either put a strong spot beam pattern (minimal glare/reflection back into the cab) or a good evenly distributed and wide enough patter and have them aimed at the ditch, that way they'd not shooting light back into the cab. Also one of the reason I don't recommend using HF lights on the hood is they are very very heavy. Cheers!
@@4WDisLife Thank you so much for the reply. Perhaps I will wait on the 6light until I get the hybrid bumper installed with the brush guard. (Perhaps these will be more suited at that location. I will look into the spots for ditch light location like you said. Are the ones from HF also a good choice, or do you have a different recommendation?
Good review. Would have been interesting to see the Roadshock Edge 4 LED light rolled into this comparison. Not so much as a comparison with the Roadshock 6 LED or BD, but I bet it would have fared nicely against the Auxbeam and Knockoff LP6 and at only $210 for a pair...
hey, thank you and yes, I would have no doubt that even the edge 4 led would be much better than the knockoff lp6s and other smaller form lights given how great the edge 6 performed.
What is the color temperature like on the HF lights versus the BD ones? The blue quality of most aftermarket LEDs really bothers me, so I've installed Diode Dynamics yellow lights with clear lenses retrofit for a nice ~4k kelvin temperature. The periphery lighting of the HF RS6 lights has me really interested in putting a pair of them on the roof rack, instead of the LP9 sports that I've been trying to justify.
I think the HF’s color temp is not too far from BD’s LP6, if you watch the video where I flip between those two quickly, they color temp to me seems similar.
And don’t forget the HF has a 4 shooter, imo it would be a better choice on the roof of trucks, could literally get a whole row of those and still be under the cost of a pair of lp9s.
@@4WDisLife Do you there is much compromise for the peripheral lighting on the HF RS4 lights compared to the RS6 or the Baja LP9? I have four DD SS5 pods on the front end of my 4Runner for forward lighting - I mostly want some light up high for distance and peripheral at this point.
@@Telamonster2I actually would guess it’s about the same with RS6 in terms of peripheral lighting or width of the light pattern if you go for the combo pattern RS4. Combo RS4 has two wide pattern lens facing front just like the RS6 and probably similar in the side shooting. I think it’s a strong contender but I have not personally tested them.
I think the HF is better as an offroad light compared to BD. The foreground on the BD is too intense and will impair your distance vision. Compared to the HF that’s dark in the middle of the foreground, but increases width. The less intense foreground is filled with the low beams, so there’s no need for the BD’s foreground.
I am not spending $300 on harbor freight lights. There might be a slim chance I would if they had like a 5-10 year warranty but I’d much rather pay for some other brand, not spending $300 for 90 days.
Someone else made a great point that you can purchase their protection warranty for $30ish for another two years I believe. Still not lifetime but better than 90 days.
@GRAGGLE "If for any reason you are not satisfied with an item purchased from Harbor Freight Tools, you may return the product within 90 days for a full refund or replacement, whichever you prefer. The limited warranty term is 90-day beginning on the date of invoice. You must provide the original receipt to receive an exchange or refund."
I see where you are coming from. Some products do well new but don't last long term. Personally, I think its worth the risk, especially with the $30 insurance. Another option is buying them used for a nice discount on offerup or the FB market place don't have much to lose then.
Uhh any other companies trying to sue you for to keep quiet? Because I hate Baja design because it's so pricey .I can't even afford it. That's why I like the knock offs😊
Thanks for this video! Very well done and evenly comparisons, I'm pretty surprised with the harbor freight results! Looks like a very nice alternative.
Honestly I think the HF is the way to go just from a price to performance stand point. But if you really do want the best of the best BD still has that position.
agreed. One thing that also maybe important is the warranty. HF offers 90 days warranty and BD offers life time. However, you can buy 2 year additional warranty for a reasonable price at HF.
No denying the Roadshock is a good value. I would say that when installed, the side shooters will be prone to blockage by bumper shape and the other lights being alongside. What many enthusiasts don't always fully grasp is that @bajadesigns is really a RACE lighting company. When driving at speed, that additional "side shooter" is going to be a distraction to your peripherals. I will concede that this isn't as much of a concern for most consumers. However, this is why BD puts so much emphasis on their lighting Zones. Having installed, driven, and raced with a multitude of lights: they really are the top of the heap, but you gotta pay to play.
I am not 100% following on the side shooter part, lp6 also has side shooter and is one of the brightest in the test, so if side shooter is a distraction, why would they even have that being race oriented lighting?
@4WDisLife in a race or higher speed effort, your focus more on the horizon and what's coming. Anything that's in your "side shooter" area should be for verification or already too close to worry about at this point. When ripping with the Onyx6 40, for example, I prefer the combo pattern white center and amber on the ends. It focuses your attention on the center and looking ahead. Meanwhile, allowing you to see the ditches, but your main focus is up and forward. The LP is a great light, and like you said, HF put more emphasis on their side lighting than BD. It can seem to the lay-person to be an advantage, but a racer knows it's pretty useless. With mid to long travel suspension the speeds are a lot higher, anybody that rode dirt bikes knows you should have planned ahead already
@@CodyCrafted good info. I believed the advantage in the wide pattern comes in the low beam lens and not the side shooter section, but maybe I am wrong.
My conclusion: The HF lights are a little weak in the middle compared to the BD lights but the HF lights are clear winners in the side light area. The headlights fill in the middle where the HF are weak so I give the HF lights the win. Would like to know how the Auxbeam 20" lightbar compares to the HF lights. It is a combo of spot and flood and as impressive as the KC Hilite LED headlights are on my Wrangler, the $37 Auxbeam lightbar out shines them. For anyone who has had both, why use a pair of lights over a lightbar? The pair of lights has 12 total LEDs and my lightbar is 18" of double row LEDs with many flood lights and spot lights.
BD got a $0.65 LED from China and HF got a $0.60 LED from China. Only difference. Get the HF and live happy. BD overpriced for lights. Not sure when if became a flex to overpay for stuff
I think the harbor freight lights will be a perfect replacement for my stock tj fog lights. 99% of the time I use fog lights on the dark desert back roads without high beams.
Nacho Grandes not being in this comparison is a travesty. Those can be had for 30% off if you look around so two of them would cost $560 and they are the top dog in my observation
The low beam of the LP6 scatters WAY too much light above where the normal cutoff should be. Not safe for other vehicles on the road. I’d expect a much better light for $400+. I’m definitely going with Harbor Freight
Well. I thought about it but it doesn’t have a side shooting function and therefore its beam pattern is not going to be as wide. So I kept this comparison strictly for side shooter only.
@@robertdrawdy3749for sure. I have a video previously tested the auxbeam 360pro in a 9 inch size, it decimates most of the lights in terms of the distance.
I really wish you would have put these all on a simple watt meter. Wattage is king, and no doubt it would have very much correlated to output. There is no magic lens, or magic diode, work is work, but marketing is perception.
I mean if that’s what you are looking for, the products website should have all the wattage numbers. I disagree the wattage is king, I believe the effective output coming out of the lens is more important than raw wattage.
Id prefer the unfinished Baja design plug. that way i don't have a break or large junction in the wiring harness. Better than having a massive tape joint 6" from my light. HF slay... They're going to reset all these overpriced companies redesign and evaluate their prices....
I wouldn’t buy lights that cost more than my car note lol unless I’m getting a tax write off there is absolutely no reason for your average person to own a $1000 off-road light.
lets revisit this video after 3 years and see how many HF fanboys are still on the bandwagon. You pay for what you get is what I have learned in 20+ years of modifying vehicles. Just the look of the harbor freight screams high school raceboy. Might as well go slap an autozone race team and nos stickers on your car. The fact that BD offers a LIFETIME warranty speaks thousands vs the 90 day HF warranty.

Personally I don’t think a novsight or any light without side shooting function can compare. At least not wi the how wide the beam pattern will be.
HF definitely closed the price gap. BH is quantifiably not 3x better, and we know that thanks to this mans work 😅
A long term durability test would be good.
Thank you! Are you shocked at the HF in a good way or bad way? Just curious
@@4WDisLife in a good way for sure.
Really like the pattern of the harbor freight lights. Did you happen to test the amp draw of the lights?
Thanks and I have not tested the amp drawn. FWIW, it does say wiring for one light requires 14gauge wires and two lights require for 12 gauge wires, which is identical to what Baja is calling for in their user manual.
Really well done video, thank you for the effort you put into this
Thank you for the kind comment man, it means a lot.
Great video! Very thorough and clear!
Thank you!
Excellent work man, thank you for doing this. A lot of work and money in this video. I’ll be getting the HF lights
Thank you for the comment. I am glad it helps you out!
@@4WDisLife we ride sxs and it’s a bit of a different use case than pickups. Most people have light bars
I bought the HF ones and honestly no complaints for the price.
They are very solid and worth the price.
Good video the field view was a great help 👍 I'm on a budget and HF has worked great for me and will probably get the lights
Glad to know the previous HF light products are quality as well.
Thanks for the video, u sold me on the harbor freight light. Very detailed video.
Where did you get 90 days from lmao
@GRAGGLE "If for any reason you are not satisfied with an item purchased from Harbor Freight Tools, you may return the product within 90 days for a full refund or replacement, whichever you prefer. The limited warranty term is 90-day beginning on the date of invoice. You must provide the original receipt to receive an exchange or refund."
I see where you are coming from. Some products do well new but don't last long term. Personally, I think its worth the risk, especially with the $30 insurance. Another option is buying them used for a nice discount on offerup or the FB market place don't have much to lose then.
@@JonFox1945 agreed, since this video, I have also torture tested the HF light, man I tell you they are one tough light.
Thank you! Yes for the price it’s probably is a very good light.
Baja designs hotspots are not easy to see contrast, I personally like the wide even coverage of the Harbor Freight
Thanks. Very well done comparo. HF has come out with a great light for the $$.
100% also consider the 4 led one at a even lower price point, probably similar performance just less bright.
Was this test completed with a single light or are these numbers with the pair of lights? Thanks
One single light. It shows the light pattern better with one single light IMO.
ok just filmed what the pair of HF RS6 lights look like at night, will post soon.
Great video thank you for taking the time to go into such detail.
Thank you for the comment, I try to be thorough.
interesting info, but Baja Designs all the way here
Baja is definitely a quality light
I think the choice between lightbar vs pods can also be personal since someone likes the look of pods or vise versa.
This was a great video I'm going with the hf lights
Thank you !
BD got a $0.65 LED from China and HF got a $0.60 LED from China. Only difference. Get the HF and live happy. BD overpriced for lights. Not sure when if became a flex to overpay for stuff
Tractor supply has some nice off road lights too.
Good to know! May have to check them out sometime in the future.
Excellent video and commentary. Keep it up.
Thank you man, glad you like it!
Nice job on the review!
Nacho Offroad Technology just came out with a large bar mount light called The Grande
just checked, never heard of it but looks powerful, and very expensive.
Super awesome man . A lot of information so I don’t have to , I love it
Thanks man for the kind words.
I think the harbor freight lights will be a perfect replacement for my stock tj fog lights. 99% of the time I use fog lights on the dark desert back roads without high beams.
that sounds like a 100% match for your needs!
I think I'm going to go with the RoadShock EDGE. I'll leave the BDs to guys with a racing budget -- and sponsored TH-camrs.
Nacho Grandes not being in this comparison is a travesty. Those can be had for 30% off if you look around so two of them would cost $560 and they are the top dog in my observation
Where do you typically find them 30% off?
The low beam of the LP6 scatters WAY too much light above where the normal cutoff should be. Not safe for other vehicles on the road. I’d expect a much better light for $400+. I’m definitely going with Harbor Freight
You are right in a way but lp6 is designed to be used solely for Offroad purposes, and good choice in HF!
Tks,, very helpful info. HF going on my bronco!
Thank you for commenting and I agree. HF is the best bang for the bucks.
Superb!
Thanks. What do you think? Did the video answer some of the questions you may have before?
Great video. Thank you!!
Glad you liked it!
You gotta add the Auxbeam pro 360 7in in the mix
Well. I thought about it but it doesn’t have a side shooting function and therefore its beam pattern is not going to be as wide. So I kept this comparison strictly for side shooter only.
@4WDisLife I understand that but the throw of the lp6 vs the auxbeam 360 would be interesting. Cause ik both throw decently far
@@robertdrawdy3749for sure. I have a video previously tested the auxbeam 360pro in a 9 inch size, it decimates most of the lights in terms of the distance.
@@robertdrawdy3749 OK, auxbeam 360pro 7 inch received, will be doing the comparison soon, along with the colight's new 7 inch.
Very well done
I think I prefer the less bright harbor freight lights, they don't wash out any definition.
thats a very good point!
@@4WDisLife the actual numbers are always much different than the claimed numbers, and would lend to your review.
Great work
thank you!
I heard rough country came out with some nice lights
Interesting.
Here come that Harbor Freight Train!
Hf looked wide but dark ... Aux was 2"s smaller which is not comparable
true, I am wrapping up on a HF4 led vs auxbeam 5 inch now, should be up soon.
Your "Lp6" amazon is more like Baja Design LP9.
Yea the knock off "lp6" is more like a LP9 looking style however, the exterior dimension is surely a "LP6" size.
Just wanna say that the 6 road shock edge is not 300 a pieace there 150
The price shown is for a pair of
Check your spelling on Baja DESIGNS, not Deisngs. And in your headline it's misspelled, too. Baja Designs (plural), not Design (singular).
oops I guess it is a typo on the text from 4:16-6:15 minute mark. Thanks for correcting.
Video doesn't do these lights justice. Buy the harbor freight if on a budget they're stupid bright
Epic thumbnail typo 🤣
Sorry which word?
@@4WDisLife if you look hard enough, you'll find it.
@4WDisLife BTW great video. Gotta buy an LP6 for my Harley 👍
@@lucasholt3482thank you. I heard they make SAE models for lp6 now.
Id prefer the unfinished Baja design plug. that way i don't have a break or large junction in the wiring harness. Better than having a massive tape joint 6" from my light.
HF slay... They're going to reset all these overpriced companies redesign and evaluate their prices....
Good points.
harbor freight wins overall. simple math
Sure do. They currently have the most value.
I wouldn’t buy lights that cost more than my car note lol unless I’m getting a tax write off there is absolutely no reason for your average person to own a $1000 off-road light.
That is probably very true for most folks.

lets revisit this video after 3 years and see how many HF fanboys are still on the bandwagon.
