It’s interesting to see it looking so old and rundown. And then seeing the pictures of it from yesteryear.

My parents were Rochdale born and bred. I lived in the town in my teens. It was the loveliest town in the North West . Certainly compared to its neighbours. The magnificent Town Hall facing the Cenotaph and Memorial Gardens. Then the wide Esplanade up to the Library with Broadfield Park on the left. All changed with the Asian influx in the 60s . It’s now a shadow of itself. This is not racist , it’s just simple fact.

Did you happen to write for the Rochdale Observer? Reporter there shared your name.

It was a shit hole in 1947 with a Childrens' Welfare Dept. practising to get its later unenviable reputation which even today is not much better.

My grannie always said Rochdale was a dirty place full of dirty and creepy men.

Wonderful to compare past & present. It was obviously once a prosperous place. Now sadly a shadow of its former self, not helped by all the hideous shopping centre carbuncles that the Council keep building every 15yrs or so.

Had to turn off that dreadful voice. Images were rather repetitive too.
