Satsumas randomly grow wild in the woods in coastal Alabama and they’re better than anything in the world. They start maturing in September here

When making a margarita, squeezing in half a satsuma works very nicely.

I was always wondering what the actual difference is. I’ve noticed that here in Northern Europe, they come to the supermarkets at different seasons, so fall starts for us in October with satsumas, but by November it’s hard to get your hands on them. You’ll find clementines instead and their quality will steadily decline over the winter months but they’ll usually be available until February. I prefer satsumas, to be honest, and I was truly surprised that their season doesn’t end with November. Why is that? Are clementines more widely produced?

The type I have here in costa rica you could not split it apart like that you would have juice fill your hand drip on the floor. My Satsuma has no pulp inside, and could not have more juice! I have 4000 Valencia also they ship well. The Satsuma has to be handled differently. The are a lit more labor to get to market but they are gold!

Are the Satsuma Mandarins Owari? or Some other variety?

Owari would be a specific Satsuma varietal, according to my understanding.
