Nice video, how often do you water your mandarin tree?

    • @LAyangfamily
      @LAyangfamily  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Nairuulagch it really depends on your local climate and your watering habits. Basically if you insert your finger in the soil and find the top 1 inch of soil is dry, you need to water it. Please make sure the container and soil is well drained.

Will the size of the fruits be small if we plant it in a pot?
How many years will we need to wait for the ponkan to bear fruit and be ready to be harvested?
I am an Indonesian Chinese. I want to plant it here.

@goodguidance8209 Fruit size depends on many factors such as the species/varieties, the nutrients, and the number of fruits bearing on the tree. You still can get a big size of fruits on the tree in a pot.

@goodguidance8209 If you grow this kind of citrus tree from a grafted mature tree or propagated from a mature flowering and fruiting tree, you can probably get fruits at the same year or next year. But if you grow from fruit seed, that you will probably wait for quite a long time, not sure about that. I would not recommend you do it like this way. Good luck. Questions, down below.

Trunk diameter is very important a newley grafted mature branch will fruit first year. Then it may take years for rootstock to support it's fruit.

I look forward to watching your citrus care videos, and am especially pleased to see a video(s) of this specific tree! I'd be very happy to see basic care like repotting, pruning, and fertilizing. I'd be THRILLED to see how you've overcome past problems and how you are working to identify current setbacks. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!

Looks great! I’ve been growing a clementine from seed since March and it’s about 8 inches tall now. Though mine is not grafted it’s been a fun project and nice looking plant

Thanks, we love clementine Mandarins. Citrus is an evergreen plant and ornament plant. But I just want to mention you that you might not get your tree to boom and set fruits for many many years. Two options you can solve this problem, one is you can graft a scion from a mature tree, and the other one is girdling. I have several seed grown lemon trees, I have been growing for over 6 years, but never bloom. This year I girdled some branches, and it blooms and sets many fruits. Regarding Citrus grafting and girdling, please visit my channel and specific playlists. Thanks and good luck.

I found it funny when you actually ate the mandarin in the video.
I have a mandarin orange tree which is in a pot. Last year, 2020, it managed to produce 18 fruits. A monkey ate one of the orange.

      Really?
Citrus has so many different hybrids, I like jucy, sweet, thin skin, seedless and easy to peel. I once tried to propagate my favorite citrus tree from seeds, but unfortunately my favorite mandarin species does not have seeds. After think it over and compare, I decided to buy this species. Last year was the first year I can harvest ripe mandarins, I really want to taste it to figure out whether it is my favorite. Actually it tastes pretty good. Hopefully it will taste better if I can plant it in the ground in the future.
I like animals, but hate animals to eat and bite my plants. We have lots of squirrels and birds here.

Also if you plant from seed, the fruit of that tree will not have an identical flavor as the parent plant. This is because most if not all citrus do not grow "true to seed".

Your tree looks great! Very happy and healthy! I have a similar tree, but it is sad and sickly. Do you have plans to make a video that show how you grew such a wonderful tree with do much fruit? Thank you for sharing your tree with us!

Hi, thanks for your comments. I have a bunch of videos talking about how to take care of this tree with other citrus trees. You can watch these videos by clicking playlist "citrus tree propagation and care".
Yes. this tree did very well last year, but this year this tree has kind of problems, so far I did not get fruits. I have been thinking and trying to figure out. One thing might be related with alternate bearing which is pretty common for some citrus trees. I have been planning to repot this tree to a bigger container and check out root system, will apply some fertilizers to see next spring time whether it can come back to normal. I agree with you I will make a video to share my story. Thanks again.
