So far, I’ve been spoiled about Blood & Cheese, Rhaenys in this episode, and about Addam & Alyn of Hull. At this point, it’s not that serious, but it’s a shame.

Rhaenys returned because regardless of the ambush, the order from her queen and the original intention was to secure rooks rest and stop criston cole's advance. she could've easily fled on several occasions but that would mean effectively giving up the crownlands and maybe the war at this point, so se took her chances and decided to fight.
she already beat aegon and she saw how ruthless aemond was, so in a sense she was hoping she could end the whole war for rhaenyra here once and for all,. In a sense she knew the danger she was in so you could say she was effectively commiting suicide, but she also knew what fleeing would mean for rhaenyras war effort, so she stayed and fought...
say what you wil about rhaenys, but if she was the queen ,she seemed the kind to take on the battle herself rather than send people to do the fighting for her, something we see in rhaenyra too, which is why she stands by her
And she sure as shit paid for it.

Remember, Aegon didn't want to be king at first. His mom and grandpa pushed him into it without getting him ready. So it's not really his fault. He wants to be a good king, but most of his team, except maybe Cole, just want to use him. It makes him feel like shit cause he is realizing nobody actually cares about him.
Aemond IS A FOOL he has injured Aegon and Sunfrye and know his team is even weaker
I mean, he hated Aegon for bullying him and he viewed himself as a better king than Aegon so he seized the opportunity.

Honestly I think this is a massive strategic improvement.

24:52 Well, he's not SUPPOSED to be a figurehead, but Otto and Alicent basically intended Aegon to be so they could rule through him. Neither of them did a damn thing all those years that they ruled in Viserys' name to TEACH this boy ANYTHING about how to be a king. When was Rhaenyra was 15, her father had her serving as cupbearer in the council chamber so she could listen and learn from him and his lords, teaching her what it meant to be a ruler and how to take into account all the people affected by the monarch's decisions.
When Aegon was 15, his mother and grandfather ignored him so he was always carousing and getting drunk to the point that he was masturbating out of windows and sexually assaulting maidservants to try to get SOME kind of attention. And when his father died and no one sent for Rhaenyra, Aegon went into hiding because he knew he had never been prepared for the job, and he BEGGED Aemond to put him on a ship and send him away and claim he couldn't find Aegon. But they hauled him home and put the crown on his head and told him to be the king. So he's trying to be the king.
Yes, he is a total asshole when he's drunk (who isn't?), and he seems to get drunk easily and often, but the boy is MISERABLE. His son was murdered in his own bed, and that's because his mother promoted her lover to Lord Commander and the man was an idiot who never assigned guards to the Queen's suite. People like Larys openly work against him. His own mother came to his chambers and saw him SOBBING over the death of his child and she did NOTHING to comfort him...she went back her room and screwed Cole again.
And when he asks for help? When he Alicent tells him to humbly beg for advice, what advice does she give? Shut up and do nothing. Let your brother take charge. Let my lover take charge. You just be a puppet and sit and wait for us to pull your strings.
In this hyper-masculine setting where men are judged by their feats of bravery, when she has named her son after a man who is known as Aegon the Conqueror, she is telling him to be known as Aegon the Puppet.
So of course he's going to go down to the dragon pit because it's clear that Sunfyre loves him -- and might be the only creature in the world who does -- and Aegon loves Sunfyre back. And the only thing he can do to feel like a man again is get on that dragon and go to battle, because no one has taught him any different and no one bothered to explain the full plan to him.
I gotta say, this episode truly made me feel bad for Aegon and my hatred for Otto has grown even hotter. He started ALL of this. HE suggested that Viserys make Rhaenyra his heir because he knew it would be easier to move her out of the way later than if the throne passed to Daemon. He set this ALL up. Make Rhaenyra the heir to displace Daemon, eventually banishing him. Pimp his teenage daughter out to Viserys to get her in as the next queen. And as soon as she had a son, Otto started pushing to have that son replace Rhaenyra.
He's the real jerk, because he didn't lift a finger in twenty years to teach his grandson how to be a smart and effective king.
It’s so crazy to see the difference as mothers. Rhea is so sweet and affectionate to jace and supports him when he needs it. Meanwhile aegon is having a whole ass mental breakdown in front of everyone and Alicent basically calls him a useless fool. If aegon even got a fraction of the nurturing Jace got he might have stood a chance.
Bro in an alternate universe where this civil war didn’t happen imagine Rhaenyra being able to send out an army that’s led by Daemond Cole and Aemond who’s stopping that!

They really could have written the motivation better. Rhaenys or Meleys could have been seriously injured and then going down fighting is better than going down trying to get back home. Or Vhagar could have been closing in on them and deciding to turn and fight instead of running.
I think it was just a “I’m going too make sure I kill Aegon and take Vhagar with me”.
The motivation really is rather obscure in this episode. I feel they should have just had Aemond hold back until the other two dragons were entangled and then swoop down from above and breathe fire on both of them. Aegon and his dragon still fall out of the sky as is, but have Vaegar slam into Meleys and take her to the ground killing her. None of this weird “Rhaenys could have flown off twice but for some reason just turned back to die”. Like it’s not shown properly why she would engage, and shots of Rhaenys felt so slow-paced. It would have been much better if they changed nothing except made those shots have a greater sense of urgency in them. Like have her immediately charge Vaegar after Sunfyre falls in an attempt to take out the green’s best weapon and die in glorious combat covered in fire and blood. Not this dream-walk flying around in circles until Vaegar jumps her behind the castle.
Her motivation was earlier in the episode when she knew Corlys had to do something about the guy who saved him. She can go out a hero and he can have his heir
Her order was to defend rooks rest. So she died trying to defend it. Like a captain going down with its ship.
@@immortal5626 yeah man spend some time in the military, orders are adjusted when things go sideways. They sent her on one dragon *which was stupid* thinking no dragon was with the army. She did not defend the castle anyway. It was stupid and it is ok to say it was stupid.

Rhaenys was an elder. She knows the ramifications that come with using dragons (which are nuclear weapons) for war. She would rather it fall in her than the queen
Should have listened to Daemon. He suggested both caraxes and meleys take on vhagar at the same time, they could have killed her that way.

Rhaenys could not retreat. It would have looked terrible for the Blacks politically ("Rhaenyra abandons her troops when they are most vulnerable!") and it would have left Daemon there with his dragon to roast everyone. She HAD to fight. Death before dishonor. She's a total G, a badass dragonlord who had to to at least TRY. With Aegon dead or at least seriously injured, if Rhaenys had taken out Vhagar, the war would be done.
Meleys on her own would have had a good chance against Granny Vhagar. Vhagar is old, she is slower. Meleys is younger, faster, and full of courage. If she hadn't had to fight Sunfyre first, there is a chance she could have taken Granny Vhagar down. Probably not without dying in the attempt herself, but she could have done it.
And if DAEMON would get his ass home, HE was convinced that Meleys and Caraxes together could kill Vhagar, he said so back in episode 1 of this season. At the very LEAST, he could have stood there in that room and said, "This is a trap, they are trying to draw us out and have us send a dragon." He would have been the one to say ok, let's take ALL the dragons we have, because all together they could have taken on Vhagar. Unfortunately, he's too busy tripping on weirwood paste, drinking it down when someone HE calls a witch hands it to him, even though he wouldn't eat the peas because he thought they were poisoned.
If he doesn't get his damn head on shoulders SOON this war is lost.

sunfyre and aegon are alive but badly wounded. aemond from the series is an idiot now they are left with only one dragon, aegon will definitely not forgive him for this. the statues aegon makes in the books were apparently cancelled. a fact in the books rhaenys faces both of them at the same time it is said that she would have been able to fight vaghar but with sunfyre there it was impossible. here everything about rhaenys was given to aemond. and aegon was nerfed because he was drunk wtf.
What about Tessarion, Dreamfyre and Verm?
You do realise the books are history books written by the grand maesters of westeros so they are not fully accurate right?. Rhaenys fighting the both of them together was the story told by witnesses. The show is telling how the actual events unfolded with the help of GRRM.
I will say that all the knowledge we have from the books comes from third parties and was purposely written with a green bias.

facts sunfyre survived a fight against meleys who is 2/3 times bigger than him and survives a 2v1 since vhagar also attacked him who is the biggest dragon in the world. fights 60 men that come to attack him after rooks rest battle and escapes. than defeats 2 more dragons while having half of his wing missing and very injured.
